Hi Alicia emoticon ,

Your blog sounds like something I would have written on all my past journeys on trying to lose weight. I am trying the slow and steady approach this time, no saying to myself "OMG, how am I going to lose these 80lbs". I am taking the advice that I read here on SP and taking it 10% at a time. Once I lose the 1st 10% then I'll work on the next 10%.
You can and will do this!!!!!

Liszig,

Listen to what the others have mentioned, but also know that you didn't put the weight on overnight so it won't come off overnight. Take it simple and slow. You don't have to change all of your eating habits and start a strenous exercise program all at once. Just make one nutrition and exercise change a week or two. Then add more changes or more intensity. ie: start with trying to drink more water, or eating more fruits and veggies instead of sweets, and trying to walk more or another exercise you like. Then as you gain more confidence you can add more nutrition habits and exercise, before you know it you will have the motivation to keep going and you will begin to see changes in weight and inches off.
Also don't beat yourself up if you go overboard or off your plan one day, just get back the next day. Remember that Each day is the beginning of the rest of your life. Today is never too late to start again.
Sparkpeople is a great place to find the tools to help you change. Join some teams that interest you and you will receive encouragement and support from others also.

Dear Alicia,
Please don't feel like your weight loss journey is hopeless. I too weighed in at 220 lbs. I was miserable and depressed and felt that i could not do anything to make that change. what I found that I needed was that "Ah HA" moment, you know that moment when you walk thru the mall and turn to the mirror and see someone you dont recognize, or when someone says something nasty and mean and you look around and you are the only other person in the room and you realize, Damn, they are talking about me. Well that was my Ah HA moment and I finally said I will not take it anymore, I do not and will not live my life trapped in a body that does not belong to me. I need to be free, and I did everything that I could to change it. It took me a total of 8 years, battle a chronic illness along the way and taking medication that hindered my attempts at weight loss. These are just the everyday challenges people like us have to deal with, no one knows what is happening in our lives, and they are wrong to judge us. We are strong, vibrant women and we can do this without the help of drugs or surgery. Strength and persistence are our key ingredients to a successful plan. I am now 125 lbs fit and lean as I have ever been, even in high school I didn't look this good. I am now a personal trainer at my gym and have been the inspiration to many women their, I tell my clients that in order to make it work you have to keep it simple, if you cant read or pronounce the ingredients, dont eat it, if you find that you fall off the train to health, don't beat yourself up just get back on it and move forward.
Everyone has those days even me, and all you do is pick yourself back up and keep on going.
Please visit my page any time you need to for inspiration and look and see where I have come from and where I am now, and know that you CAN Do this, because I did!!!!
If you want to send me private email and chat, I would be more than happy to talk to you, the one thing I didnt have was someone to talk to to help me and that's why I do what I do.

May I suggest that you start slowly and let your body get used to exercising before you hit the weights. Give yourself 2 weeks on the treadmill at 30 mins, you dont have to run, a good brisk walk is all you need to get your heart rate up and burn calories. Make sure you log in your food so you keep track, put in EVERYTHING don't leave anything out, include condiments and sauces and breads and even that little piece of chocolate you stole from the jar at the office (LOL).
Please don't get discouraged. We are all here for you, we know what you are going thru because we have been there or are there now.

Much luck to you, stay positive and block out the negative and you will be dropping pounds and pant sizes before you know it!!!!

All my best,

Ellenmary

Hey Alicia, that's very sad to hear, the first step I would say is to have confidence in yourself. Don't let your current weight get you down. Its really not important at all, whats important is just diving in headfirst. I would say start working out slowly it can be hard at first especially if you are not used to doing it. And don't be so hard on yourself. As far as nutrition goes, take it step by step. There are a lot of little ways to change the stuff you eat to something a little more healthy. This website is a wonderful resource, and there are a number of other sites that will help you get ideas for what to eat. But all things aside don't be so hard on yourself, this isn't life and death, and no matter what you weigh you're still a wonderful person!

Hi, all! I am LisZig608 (Alicia) and I am new to this. I'm overwhelmed and anxious and nervous and not sure where to go from here.

I've tracked my food only to become annoyed and embarrassed and disappointed at the amount of calories I have consumed vs. what the amount I ate. Depressing.

The fitness thing says to start today and that I am do to 30 minutes of cardio and strength 3x a week. That's HIGHLY intimidating and not going to happen. I'm not even close to being sure what I am doing let alone jumping in with both hands, feet, and every other part of my anatomy.

I'm just not sure of anything right now. I posted a blog and in it I said that I am feeling really physically and mentally crappy because of all this. I weighed myself last night and today for the first time in months only to become extremely discouraged and upset with myself. I cried myself to sleep last night because I have no idea what to do.

I can't just change everything over night and that's what it sounds like the program wants me to do. I guess my question is: "Where do I go from here?"
