You will be there before you know it. I can't believe how far I've come and it still amazes me! You can do this too!

I felt the same way when going from week 1 to week 2. But found I was able to do it. Then going from week 2 to week 3 I was scared but found I could do that also. And so on. Today I did week 5 day 2 and made it through the 8 minute runs. You can be amazed at what you will find you can do. It doesn't come easy for me either, but I'm usually pleasantly surprised when I find I can do what I thought I couldn't. Just keep on going forward!

Thank-you so much for making me feel welcome everyone! It's SO nice to be involved in a group where everyone is doing the same thing as me and I can get advice on the runs I do. Tommorrow I'm doing Wk 1 Day 3 so I'm looking forward to that. I'm looking ahead at next week where I have to run 90 sec at a time and I'm thinking, scary! but I think manageable. Running is not easy for me but I think part of it is me telling myself I can't do it. I need to start telling myself I CAN do it. Thanks again for your support everyone! I hope your runs are going well!

Welcome to the group! Running isn't easy for me but I'm getting through it and do like the feeling of accomplishment. I completed day 1 of week 5 yesterday. I've never been athletic and am 55 and just starting this type of activity. If I can do it, I have every reason to believe you can!

Thank-you so much for your ideas and insights. I did my Week 1 Day 2 run tonight and my shins didn't hurt as bad as the first run. I did a really good stretch afterwards so I hope that helps with my shins as well.

I got shin splints the first time I "took up" running, although not this time. My doctor told me that it was from increasing my miles too quickly and that I would get used to it.
I did build up to it and the shin splints quit, so good luck.

Running is definitely hard for me. I don't get shin splints, but I have done very few cardio related activities throughout my life. So, my body really has to get used to a whole new activity with higher heart rates etc. I am working hard on my breathing and overall endurance.

emoticon to the team,

I was just reading somewhere about exercises for shin splints. I am lucky that I don't / haven't had them. I will look for them but I think it was in the new runners world mag.
Edit to Add
runners world June edition page 54 has exercises to help with shin issues
wall lean toe lift, zig zag bounding, lunge jump, and pogo jumps
hope I helps

I've never ran much. I've tried over the years and failed but I'm doing this Couch to 5k running program and I'm going to stick with this. I signed up for a triathlon in July, part of it is a 5k so I'm going to have a goal to work towards. I get shin splints when I run, I'm hoping that goes away. I don't know why but it's really hard for me to run. Does anyone else agree???
