Welcome to the team! I never used to like running because of my asthma as well. I found out that running actually helps my asthma and I don't have as many attacks as I used to. It doesn't matter how fast or even how far you go, if you enjoy running YOU ARE A RUNNER! I've lost 17 lbs since August and really enjoy my runs as they relieve a lot of stress. Make sure you have great shoes, pace yourself and enjoy the ride!

Hi and welcome to the team! I never really wanted to be a runner until recently and now I love it. I'm 55 years old and still need to lose about 20-30 lbs in addition to the 65 I've already lost. If I can do it, you can. As mentioned before, pace yourself so you are able to do it easier. Building up speed will come later. You can do this!

Hi Erin!:))
Welcome to the team! I just started running myself. I've been with SP since July '09. I'm 40 yrs. old & have bad knees. I've found running is easier on them than most cardio DVD's! I never liked to run or thought of it as "FUN". So far with this I DO. Every time I finish a day I feel great and want to do more but know not to. Consistency is SO important & I tend to burn out. You know come out full throttle & then NOTHING. I'm on week 4 tomorrow will be day #2. I'm hoping to progress to week 5 next week but may not be ready. which is ALWAYS OK!:))

I do have one piece of advice for you, maybe 2! LOL! ONE, PACE YOURSELF during your run. Speed is NOT important right now. I run @ 4 & walk @3.5. I do find with the shorter run times sometimes a bit faster is actually easier. And, yep, here's #2! HAHA! BREATHING! Take deep breaths. Almost like cleansing breaths while you run. It gives you more power and you wont be panting like a dog and feel like your going to pass out when you get toward the end. I hope this helps!:)) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Erin. I've never liked to run as I had asthma as a child. I would at least like to do a 5K. I HAVE however mountain biked 10 mile races, and it felt great to finish. I can only imagine what it feels like to finish a running race.

I am planning on starting in the spring...it tends to be too cold to run here in Wisconsin during the winter times emoticon I do plan on preparing myself during the winter months.

Good luck!!
Christine

Hi there! I'm Erin, a 32 year old special education teacher living in south TX. I have always wanted to be a runner, but I am horribly inconsistent about exercise n general. I just started a 30 day challenge of daily exercise for myself, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to start C25K! I will definitely use the advice on this team, and check in for support, as well as use my iPhone app to track my progress. Swing by my sparkpage when you get a chance! emoticon emoticon emoticon
