I WANT TO SUCCEED: yes I have pretty much recovered from the stroke. I still have some residual effects such as leg drag and weakness when I get overly tired. I also have to take a med to prevent having another stroke but overall I am almost good as new. Yes I am hoping the accountability will help me along the way to my goal.

SKINNY1DAY: Be sure to stay with the group and post your success with eating , exercise and weighting in. There are various thread you can do this on. The more “engaged” you are – the better you will be. It’s great that you will be checking in with the Y for the Diabetes class to. Between us and them, you should have the support you need.

Do you fully recover from the stroke?

My chapter is a small chapter of mostly older members. Half of the members don't do computers. As the leader, I still wanted the accountability. So I asked our members to call or text me with their weight each Wednesday (our meeting day). I knew one member would not do well with calling, so if she didn't call, I called her.

When we finally got back to meeting, our meeting place was not open yet. So I found an alternative temporary meeting place.

Thanks! It's nice to know I can have someone who will root for me. ALOT of our TOPS group are older so I am sure that's why we are not meeting yet. Also alot of them don't do computers so we haven't really stayed in touch like I would have liked. It is really hard to celebrate a weight loss by yourself. Yes you are happy but sometimes you wish you had someone to tell you good job. And when you struggle it is nice to have someone who will say let's try again. I tend to give up too quick and when we don't have the accountability of having to tell our TOPS friends we gained weight or cheated or whatever it's too easy to ignore it and not face it. This has never helped me to not face the results of my bad cheating weeks. I NEED accountability! I joined the YMCA Diabetes Education Class today and even though it will be virtual we still have weekly weigh ins where we have to take a picture of our weight and send it to the coach. I am thinking this is the accountability piece I have been missing since COVID hit. I look forward to getting to know all of you on here as well for the extra support.

Accountability is a huge factor! O wish you were here in Montana! I didn't do well during Covid when everything was shut down. We can meet now, but there are restrictions.

You've done an amazing amount of weight loss in the past and now. Your biggest problem is hanging in there. This time, we want you to stay with the program. If you continue with SP we'll root you along as well with your TOPS chapter.

You can read mor about me on my profile.

Hi! My name is Beckey. I have been in and out of TOPS groups since I was 9 years old. My mom introduced me to TOPS because she went and my doctor said I was overweight at 9 years old. I have been successful many times but then life happens and I never would make it to goal before dropping out and putting on my weight again. I spent my teen years overweight and miserable but unmotivated to stick to a diet. When I was 22 years old I had a health scare. I was morbidly obese. I was diabetic. I weighed 417lbs. My doctor said if I didn't lose weight I'd be dead in 6 months. I joined TOPS again in 2002 and lost 129.75 lbs that year to win awards at IRD in Dallas,TX. I was on top of the world and actually thought I might get to goal this time. Well, life happened I got too busy for meetings so I dropped out. I did lose a total of 252lbs by 2007 and got down to 165lbs. I was healthy and active but then one day went in for a wisdom tooth removal and ended up having a stroke. This stroke put me in a wheelchair and I sunk into depression. I am an emotional eater so the combination of not being able to exercise and being depressed wasn't good for me. Before I knew it I had gone from 165lbs to over 300lbs. I did eventually get out of the wheelchair after 2 years of physical therapy several days a week. At this point I was so depressed at what ive become I was too ashamed to face a TOPS group. Anyways, I tried and failed many times for several more years before finally last year I decided enough was enough. I knew the only way I succeeded in the past was with TOPS because it kept me encouraged when I started to slip and accountable. I initially joined in 2018 but it was an online group and just wasn't so easy to be accountable. In 2019 I joined a TOPS chapter in St Paul Park, mn at an official weight of 309.5. I was only there briefly as my schedule changed and I couldn't make the meetings. I quickly found another group in February of 2020 in Maplewood, MN. I was doing good and was losing well weekly until March of 2020 when COVID 19 hit and everything shut down. I have lost weight since the last meeting back in March but nothing like I should be losing. I've only lost 7lbs. So here I am yoyoing once again because I don't have the accountability I need. I seriously need help because I can't keep doing this rollercoaster. I have been trying unsuccessfully to lose weight for 32 years. It is time to finally reach my goal this time. I am hoping this group will help keep me accountable so I can finally do it this time.

Hi my name is Connie. I joined TOPS in November of 2018. I have lost 59 lbs and counting. I have been struggling for a little bit but trying to stay strong. I live in Windsor Ontario and at this point am part of the Harrow TOPS group. I love this group they are like family because my mom has been part of this group since before I was born. I have been treasurer since I joined because nobody else wanted to do it which was fine. As time passed I have taken on lots of rolls with in the group and pitch in when and where I can because we at one point only had 5 people. With things happening in my mom's life we my have to transfer to a different group. I hate change and new environments but I want to stay in TOPS. Found a group close to my moms, it's a morning group and on Tuesdays. These things are what makes it just a little easier for me to change and save me money at the same time. Right now with all the stress I am trying to stay on track but it is hard. I have kept my calories in limit but my exercise is more like non existent. I need help.

You are worth all your hard work! Keep pushing everyday!

I am a long time TOPS member. I have been an active member since August of 1995. I think I have held all of the positions that our chapter has. I am the weight recorder for our Olympia, WA chapter that meets on Thursday evenings. I reach my goal weight once almost four years ago and then got sick and needed hip replacement revision surgery. Another time I almost reached my goal, but was put on a medicine by my doctor that made me gain weight. I have lost a little more that 50 pounds and have kept that off four years. I still have some weight to lose but I'm working on it.

A couple of weeks ago, our treasurer and another member of our chapter figured out that in our TOPS chapter we pay one year of dues, national included, for what a person in WW pays per month. We had a table at a State of Washington department health fair when they figured that out. We have about 10 active members and our chapter is a very active one. We cook one meal a month for the homeless feeding at the church where we meet instead of paying rent for our room. We attend all of our area rallys, SRD, and have attended several IRDS.

I have made friends in TOPS from all over Washington and even some from other states. I like to visit TOPS meetings in other places when my husband and I are traveling or I'm traveling by myself. I have found that each one is a little different, but we are all support groups that help each other. The programs and resources are great.

Hello, long time Sparker, first time Topper.

I went to first TOPS meeting last night, joined this morning.
Been on SparkPeople for a decade or so.

Had some success over the years but more failures. Done most of it on my own. Tried WW for a while but cost to much for my budget and seemed very repetitive and not as much fun as TOPS. I'm hoping to use SP for tracking since it is free and TOPS for support / weigh ins. Excited to find this group active :0)

I believe in you.
Have a Happy Day! HUGS

I'd like to welcome you to the team. I've been a TOPS member for about 5 years now in Montana. I'm leader of our small chapter. In September I'm hoping to set up a both at a local grocery store to recruit members. We are at almost a prime location for 3 small towns. I'm KOPS but out of leeway. Christmas was hard on me.

Hi, I'm a member of TOPS ON 0792 West Lorne Ontario Canada. I just became the leader of my chapter tonight. I've been a TOPS member for about 15 years now and once in a while got serious about weight loss but then fell off the wagon. I think I weigh about 5 or 10 lbs more now than when I started but now I am much more serious about losing weight than before and I want to set a good example for all the other members in my chapter as well and inspire them to lose weight by example. I have lost about 10 lbs. now in the past couple of months though so I'm on the right track. I had been sick a couple of weeks ago and was on medication that hindered weight loss and caused my weight to go up a bit but tonight at weigh in I had lost 5 lbs.!

Hi! My name is DeeAnna. I am a member of TOPS in Arkansas. I have been a TOPS member since January. I have been a Spark People member for many years. So, glad to be on team of other TOPS and KOPS People. Can't wait to get to know you all.

Can some one spark message me and tell me how this team works. I don't see a place to chat. What do I need to be doing?

Hi, I have been a TOPS member for four or five years now. I have lost over 25 lbs. but I am like a yo-yo most of the time. I feel like I am in a better place mentally these days and I CAN get to goal.
My biggest problem is with emotional eating and the weekends seem to be the worst.
I feel more determined then ever and even though this is a holiday weekend I am prepared for the battle of emotional eating.
Wish me well, I will try to get back to the team and let you know what I did and how it worked out.

Hi Call me OlderOwl (forget John, it was a pen name to indicate that I'm male but my wife prefers that everyone use OlderOwl instead). I joined this team because I feel that one should choose a healthy lifestyle, not a quick fix diet, and that fits in with the slogan "Take Off Pounds Sensibly" or TOPS, I originally purchased the TOPS program for my daughter without knowing that she had many years earlier had success with TOPS but she eventually gained back the weight. She kept telling me that it's because she lately doesn't have time to exercise, etc. I told her I signed her up as a gift before Thanksgiving. I said its time to make small adjustments, try different choices that are sensible, that there is enough time in the day to focus on what is important which is her health so she can be a better example for her two sons.
Most of all I told her that TOPS did not require a large expenditure of time because she didn't have to travel to meetings or go to the gym and that it is only a matter of making small substitutions of one healthy action for an unhealthy action one after the other. She agreed to give TOPS a try again.
Thursday night I had a conversation over the phone with the daughter to see how she was doing and I decided to follow the TOPS program myself and joined here because I needed to lose 8 lbs to obtain my weight goal and could use the information to motivate my daughter and others. I also co-lead three Spark teams where many questions of sensible weight loss goals are asked.

I'm Bob. I am retired and live in Virginia, USA (EDT) with my wife. Please visit my Blog at www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Hi! My name is Linda. My user name is my first initial, my middle name and the first syllable of my last name. I have been in TOPS since Oct 2010. Today, I just started my 4th (and last) year of being the leader of my Chapter. I have lost 50 lbs since I started and still have about 15 to go. It has come off very slowly, but permanently, I believe, this time. The accountability of weighing in each week and the support of our wonderful members (friends!) really works!

Hi:

My name is Charlene.
Recently rejoined TOPS last October.
Don't even remember how long ago I joined SPARK.
I have a large amount of weight to loose (80 - 90 lbs).

I am trying to focus on healthy eating and "moving.". I almost always track even if I've had a very bad day. Once I remember tracking 8000 calories (yes, that is way TOOOO much). I try to exercise/move. In the past I have been much better than I am doing right now. Having some back difficulties and it is just very hard to keep moving - but I do my best.

I am 67 years old - married for 46 years - retired - have one son and 3 grandchildren - originally from NYC. Moved to Rochester when we retired to be near my son and grandchildren.

Hi, my name is Louise.
My user name is my initials and the month and day I was born.
I joined my TOPS group in August of 1995.
I think I joined Spark People sometime in 2009.
My goal is to get healthy, to reach my TOPS weigh goal, be able to play with my grandchildren, and to travel.
My husband and I have been married 40 years, have 5 grown children, and 6 grandchildren.
I was born and raised in Minnesota and moved to Washington state when I got married. I was an elementary teacher and after all of my children were in school, I went to work as a paraeducator in a middle school. I am now retired and enjoying life.

Hi I am Lori

I chosed my user name by putting SP in front of my name

I belonged to TOPS since 2009. Due to moving and changing work shifts I belonged to several groups, at times did not have a group. Currently do not have a group near me that I can go to, I attend the internet meetings.

I belonged to Sparkpeople since 2009.

My goal is to be able to walk a mile.

I stopped coming to sparkpeople and TOPS around the same time. I gained all my weight back and more. This time I really want to stay on track and get back to a healthy lifestyle.
