Hello...I've never been skinny...and I started getting kind "chunky" around 4th grade, I was never obese, just overweight, or at least not as skinny as everyone else. It's depressing sometimes. I'm trying to get into a normal size eventually...a 7 or a 9 would be nice...haven't seen those numbers since I was like 13 or so.

Anyway, enough of being a downer...I'm Francis, 20 years old, just about to start my junior year in college (accounting/finance double major). I found Spark late last year and think it is awesome!

Hello,

New to this team. Have been with SP for a week today...yippie! I have been overweight most of my life...according to my mother.

Decided I needed to loose weight after all this time.

My name's Katherine, and I've also never been skinny. Fancy that in this group. =P

My goal isn't ever to be skinny, though. I don't think that's particularly attractive, and neither does my boyfriend. A bit of healthy meat on my bones is just fine. :)

Hi Erin, and all our other newbies! Great to meet you all!

Erin, it's been a LONG time since I created my Spark Page, but I THINK what you need to do to get your ticker is create your Spark Page. It is located on the Main Page in the upper right hand corner. It should say "Create My Spark Page" or something close to that. Once you start creating your page, toward the end, it will give you the option to add a ticker, and you can change the background and icon to your liking. Let me know when you find it...good luck!

Karen

Hi, I am Erin. I have been large all my life. I recently topped out at 275 lbs. In April I joined Curves and lost 10 lbs. I need to change my eating habits, but I am unable to get the book from Curves with the diet plans, and truly I need to make lifestyle changes in eating. My goal is to be 175 lbs. by April 2008. I have not weighed under 200 lbs since 1986. I have 5 children and I want to be healthy enough to see them grow up and have kids of their own.

Where can I get a tracker like many of you have?

HI everyone! I am new to this thread. I have been overweight since I was about 12. I am ready to kick it. I have gained 80 lbs since my wedding 1 year ago. And even though he dosn't say it, I know my husband would like to see me lose it, if only for my healths sake.
Good luck to everyone

Hi everyone! My name is Aletha. I have been overweight my whole life. My mom always made my clothes when I was in elementary. My mom took me to weight watchers I did well but when I stopped watching my portions and the food I ate it came back more than before. I am tired of being fat. I am tired of hurting. I am happy though to be a part of this group.

hello everyone!
what a great idea for a team... sometimes i struggle with the fact that all of my "buddies" are just trying to get "back" to a weight they remember themselves at- while i have absolutely no idea where i'm headed for a goal because i've always been heavy... i'm lighter now than in high school!
so, thanks for having me!

Good afternoon everyone!! My name is Erica and I'm so glad I found this team. Growing up, I never felt fat, but with younger twin step-sisters that look like supermodels and an annoyingly shallow step-mother constantly telling me that I was, I started believing it. I held onto 155lbs until I got pregnant with my daughter. During the pregnancy, I gained a healthy 26lbs. My step-mom was endlessly asking if I had joined the 200 pound club and seemed almost disappointed that I hadn't. I lost that pregnancy weight (and then some) but depression hit me hard and I ballooned up to 210 lbs. within 6 months. At this time, I realize what my family was putting me through was not only damaging to my self-esteem, but put a heavy chip on my shoulder toward life in general. I've practically severed my relationship with my step-mother and my step-sisters and I'm ready to surround myself with positive people who have a positive outlook on life. I'm ready to do this for myself and also to be a good role model for my daughter. Feel free to check out my Sparkpage and I hope to meet a lot of great people here!!!

Hi I am new to this group. I can't say that I have been way overweight all my life but let's say a good part of it now that I am an adult. When I got married, I weighed in at 97 pounds. I am now up to 244...I want to get back down but probably not to tha weight of 97...right now I am shooting for 190...then I will work on more after I reach that goal

Hi! My situation is a little different-- I was overweight for the first 39 years of my life, then finally found a calorie-counting program similar to SP and got down to a healthy weight. Now I'm in my second year of maintenance, but I'm still working through some of the issues of not being "the fat girl" anymore, and also dealing with the difference between "not fat" and "skinny."

WELCOME Billie, Kerry and Karen!!

Great idea, Kerry about having a snack on the way home! I have been doing that, too, and it really helps a lot! I have that afternoon "slump" and I usually just hit bottom, so it helps to boost my energy with a little protein and carb. Way to go!

Look forward to getting to know all of you a little better!

Woohoo I found this team on my start page today! I am Karen and I've never been skinny my entire adult life. I think the last time I was 'skinny' was when I was in 3rd grade, then I started to get 'chubby.' Ughhh. MY highest weight was 237 and I am currently at 179. :) I hope to be skinny for the first time within a year.

Good morning Ladies,

My name is Kerry and I have been overweight for most of my life. I had what I refer to as my skinny phase, it only lasted 1 year, but that's ok, I will get there again.

I struggle with having meals prepared for me when I get home from work, as I am always hungry. I have been packing a small snack to have on my way home to ease the hunger, so I don't grab everything bad.

Just wanted to introduce myself and wish everyone good luck & Stay Strong in your journey's!

I am worth it. I just sometimes have to remind myself of that!

Hi my name is Billie. I too have been overweight my entire life. Even as a little girl I always had a belly and hips even though at that time I was still "normal" weight. Now I have a little girl of my own and i need to show her how to be healthy and fit. I can't expect her to exercise and eat properly if she is raised not doing it. I have already lost 36lbs and I hope to lose another 90 - 100 depending on what I look like when I get there. I am naturally muscular and strong so I'm not sure what my goal weight is but I would like to be able to go to the store and buy a size 8 and have it fit me....oh what a dream. The smallest I have ever been in was a 12 and that was after losing a lot of weight in high school through nutrisystem (which came right back of course). So here it goes, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle and so far I'm liking it! I look forward to getting to know all of you here and encouraging each other. I love seeing people who are like me succeed - it inspires me to do better too.

Welcome to ALL our newbies! I appreciate everyone's openness and honesty! We all have stories to tell, don't we? I am so proud to be a part of a team that can understand each other, know the silent pain many of us have dealt with all our lives, and now know that TOGETHER, we can DO THIS, first for OURSELF, then for our families, all of whom want us around for as long as possible!! Thank you all for the motivation this morning! I needed it!

I'm glad to have found you- I am a 43 yr old single-working mom- waited till late to have daughter and she asked me to stick around untill she has lived her life and full of grandchildren- so I guess that is the best reason I know to finally lose enough weight to do so- my weight has never stoped me from doing anything- as my doc says- I am in the best health- test wise- that he has ever seen for a large person- all results are normal- except for iron levels and occasionally my thyroid- each time it is tested- diff. labs come up with diff results- they say its not a factor- but so far I have been on sp site for a few weeks and have lost a consistant 9lbs- Woo Hoo!! that have stayed off- I love the food tracker- it has been the single solitary best ever motivation I could have!! glad I found this!! and glad you did too!!

Oh, boy howdy, did I just find my team.
I am SO GLAD this team was featured because I see myself over and over and over and.....
.....I was always the kid that dreaded the weighing day in the nurse's office, the kid that hated gym, and even though I became the girl that said f-you to all the bullies and did whatever I wanted to do my whole life, I still remember the devastation of being judged and rejected based on my size. I found my place in life now where its an asset; I can control a firehose delivery of full blast gallons per minute without falling over! But I have a hideous family history health wise and we're all 'stamped out of the same mold' so I'm trying to do something about it now rather than when I 'have to'. I've never been skinny, can't say I actually want to be 'skinny'....I just want to be a size where I can shop at garage sales. I want a pair of cowboy boots. I want to be comfortable at the movies. I want to climb ladders and ventilate on the roof of burning houses. Just normal girl stuff.
So, I'm a 37 year old married woman in North Central PA, no kids, probably going to stay that way, one cat, various armaments, and I'm an EMT/firefighter. I've been in the relocation industry (of late with Graebel Van Lines) for 17 years. My husband is a writer and runner (BRYANG on SP) and all around great guy.
The rest is on mah page! Hello to all!

Hi! I came across this page reading an article and I thought "What does skinny mean?" Is it our own perception or the views that have been put on us by society...?

I'm not skinny and never have been. I used to be in very good shape when I was yonuger but because I have a bigger build I always felt fat. As soon as I stopped sports, by breasts grew and waist become bigger. I look back at how I used to be and cant believe I was smaller. I still wasnt skinny but looking back I wish I was happier with who I was back then... :( (getting a bit teary here...!)

So I can say I have have never felt skinny.

Just because someone doesn't believe in you, NEVER STOP BELIEVING IN YOURSELF.

Hey! Y'all are a featured group, but I didn't know you existed! So...I am also a fat girl (or rather, I have been my WHOLE life! - look at my spark page, I think I used those exact words). I was skinny once in 2nd grade because I refused to eat my mothers food (so I didn't eat) but then back to being fat after that. And I was a kid in the 80s so that meant a LOT of spandex (scary!). The first real pair of jeans (not leggings) that I had were handmedowns from my mom - in 4th grade - and they were a 14. I remember going through middle school gaining about 40 pounds a year. I remember hovering right under 200 in early high school. Then...well I stopped weighing myself. I wore a 36 in mens pants (although only one brand fit in that size...and in the relaxed fit) and when that stopped working, I started wearing skirts, cause I could still package myself (like a ham) into an XL. Eventually, I just gave up and bought a pair of women's jeans - they were a 22. And I stayed there for years. I've always been the biggest person in the room, I've just come to expect it. I was about 260 at the peak there (which I think lasted 3 or 4 years...). I stayed fairly active, which is hard at that size, but I'm stubborn. I hurt my back trying to exercise (not immediately, I exercised heavily and consistently for 3 or 4 months) and couldn't walk for 6 months because of a horrible sciatica - at 23.
After I could move again, I realized exercise alone couldn't be the answer, and I started dieting. It was almost on a whim. I don't even know how I kept myself committed, but in 6 months I dropped 50 + pounds, back down to 200. It was a very committed and strict 6 months. So one of the best compliments I got was "Hey you look like a normal person now".

Of course, how about now. I'm around 190 most of the time, I'm not strictly dieting, but I am working on my body a lot harder, and I've lost about 10 or 15 pounds since joining spark people. I still expect to be the biggest person in the room and I don't understand it when I'm not, or when there are people who can't keep up with me - which I'm very very sympathetic to.

Just thought I'd tell the story, y'all may "get it" more than others. I'm still looking to lose about 15-20 pounds, but I'm pretty content to do it slowly. Probably too slowly, but all I've ever known is being the fat girl, so I don't mind this so much. Oh - yeah, I wear a 14 now. =)

ps- Bliss - it's not a paradox, I think fat is more and more accepted these days, but I think the stigma that was put on the appearance issue 20 years ago is now associated with "health problems", which is similar, but different. And at least there are decent looking clothes out there now.

Wow, I guess we're ALL the fat girl! This is the team I've been looking for. Sometimes, in this fight, it helps to know that others are coming from the same perspective I am.
My struggle is to find fat acceptance while at the same time whittling away at my many excess pounds and seeking to create a healthy life.
I don't think that's a paradox; I hope this group agrees!

Hi! I'm Em, I'm so glad to find this board here! I joined SP about a month ago but, have only started getting active this week. I've always been overweight. The only picture I have of me not overweight was at 7 days old! I don't know what my goal weight is, I've written down 125 but, I may not like that on me. I'm on this journey to get healthy, feel better about myself and live a long time. I'm a little worried. I'm the fat girl, I always have been and, yes, that's part of what defines me. Gee, maybe my overeating really is partly psychological.

I look foward to getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this thread, glad to find it lol
I've always been overweight for as long as I can remember and that's a long time, was teased as a kid, yatta yatta yatta you know the drill, two years ago, I reached 170 pounds oh man I looked great, but you know people would still call me fat! and look where that got me, right back here, well not anymore, I'm not getting any younger and it's getting tougher and tougher, so this time, I'm going to make it.

1st Goal - get to 220 lbs

2nd Goal - get to 200 lbs

3rd Goal - to feel fitter and healthier

4th Goal - get to 180 lbs.

5th Goal - fit into my skinnier jeans

Shawndra, I know what you are talking about, I have to same problem--you have to watch your substituions. I am making a very concerted effort to try and eat the fats called for on my daily diet. Sometimes when I see I fall short, I take 1/2 tbsp of Olive oil (which is also on my diet) sometimes I take a tsp to 3 tbsp of lo-fat sour cream which is also on my diet).

Thank you everyone!! I do have a quick question. I have been very successful in keeping my cal. fat carbs. and prot. in my recommended target. However, on my daily progress report I can never seem to get my graph for 'where your fat comes from' to match up with the recommended. My recommended is 15 protien 30 fat and 55 carbs. Any tips on how to make sure that what i'm eating will fit into this recommendation?? Thank you!!
