Hey everyone. I am Jaime. I'm 32 from Canada. I am just coming to terms with being trans and my first step in my journey is to lose weight. I carry most of my weight in my hips and butt and it causes a lot of discomfort in my body. I would love to connect with people and find some support both for weight loss and for my transition.

Hey everyone, I'm Jay. I'm a 34 year old transman. I got married a few weeks ago and I'm trying to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I've lost about 130 lbs in the past 5 years, I still have some to lose and I'm learning to make better food choices. I'm new to sp and loving it so far! Be well everyone :) I'm glad to be here.

Hi everyone! I'm Cam and new to Spark People. I have lost 30 lbs. so far and need to lose 64 more, oye. I hope I can answer some questions about transitioning, as I have been doing so since 2001. I only need one more surgery and I am done.

Hey everyone!
My name is Andie I identify as androgynous but prefer male pronouns. I've struggled with my weight my whole life, ive always been very active but just enough overweight to be behind other competetors. I want to be able to up my game so to speak and working on dropping some pounds and picking up some muscle. I love most adventure based sports, especially rock climbing and trail running and want to be able to compete in endurance based events. I am also very intersted in learning good ways to use exercises to shape my body to be able to present more male. Thanks for such an awesome sparkteam!

Hi.
I'm a human shaped creature. Currently, I am female shaped, but in terms of my brain, I am bigender/genderfluid. And femme. And pansexual. And polyamorous.
My partner sometimes calls me his 'wife' and my son calls me 'Mummy' but I usually think of myself as 'one of the guys'.
I'm not terribly fussed about pronouns.
I have come back to Spark after a long time away because I am starting to present as more androgynous and I really liked how my body looked when I had significantly less fat on it. (Basically, when I looked more like a boy.) So that's what I'm trying to do again this time and having some community to help with motivation would be great.

Hi, I'm CJ. I'm FTMish, but still in figuring out where. You could call me a drag queen trapped in a woman's body, I guess, and I've actually been mistaken by a few strangers as MTF. I do still present as primarily female, but am testing the waters with an androgynous presentation. And, just throwing it out there, I don't get too bound up over my pronouns--she/he/ze/hir, whatever. None are offensive to me.

I'm pre-everything myself, but my fiancee is MTF and she has been on hormones for a few years.

Hi everyone! I'm Lillian, a 28-year old MtF. (29 in a few days O.o )

At the beginning of 2012, I was around 210 lbs when I decided to begin transitioning and losing weight. In April, I ran a half-marathon for the first time and a week later, participated in a mud run which was just as exhausting. By July, I was down to 160 lbs, but my weight-loss efforts stalled out after that and currently I'm sitting at 166 lbs. My goal is to get to around 140 lbs and then adjust from there to whatever final weight I feel is best.

My hope is that seeing all of your successes will motivate me to keep striving to reach my own goals.

Hi Eliza,

I found that when I started on T (and I did start on a low dose), I didn't have all that much trouble controlling my appetite. Since I was mindful about what I ate beforehand, I didn't lose control after I started T. I ate about the same amount, and actually found myself wanting to crank out hour-long workouts in the gym most every day. (My emphasis was on cardio, because I really wanted to lose fat in the "feminine" distribution areas.) I really didn't have to force myself to do anything—my spirits were higher, my optimism was good, and seeing my body change shape was its own reward. I did lose some weight (this was last year, before I was on SparkPeople), but more importantly (to me) I changed shape—from a pear with big hips/thighs/butt to an inverted triangle shape. It wasn't overnight, of course, but it was quicker than I expected it to be.

I guess what I'm saying is if you are already conscious of your eating and fitness habits, I wouldn't worry too much. Then again, every body is different. It's an experiment for everyone (even those who never experience any hormone therapy). Keep up the healthy habits, and remember that any undesired effects/behaviors aren't "failures", they're just information to help you find what works best for you.

Hi All,

My name is Eliza, and I identify as gender-queer. I anticipate starting on a low dosage of testosterone within the next month or so, and despite good conversations with a nutritionist and my doctor, still am unsure of how this will affect both my eating and my workouts.

I have always struggled with weight, and actually talking with my nutritionist is what helped me to realize that my body image issues weren't actually about weight, but rather gender expression. I'm excited to start developing a more masculine physique, and I hope that I will be able to stave off the increased appetite and take advantage of the extra energy (and results at the gym).

Any suggestions, thoughts, advice on how to lose about 10% body fat and put on more muscle weight... and not go nuts about food while on T, is greatly appreciated!!

I'm glad this group is here!

Hi, my name is Aiden. I originally joined Sparkpeople 2 years ago, and had a lot of success. Then I fell off the wagon. This year I am determined to get back on and go, go, go! I was part of this team 2 years ago and remember getting quite a bit of support and inspiration from it's members. So, as I have started anew I wanted to rejoin.

I've been a member for a while but finally introducing myself!

I'm Anthony, and I'm a 23-year-old FTM. I am on T, had top surgery in Jan. 2012, and am now trying to lose the 15 lbs I need to get out of the "Overweight" BMI category. I'm a recent college grad and living at home right now, which is challenging, but WAY better than it could be (my parents are 100% on board with my transition and everything). I'm going to try posting here more (hopefully others will follow suit); I have a lot of thoughts/questions that relate to the intersection of my health and gender.

Hey all! My name is Cody and I am an Ftm. I am loosing weight for several reasons. Tired of seeing the scale looking so helpless like "please do not stand on me it hurts", I am working on having top surgery in my future, and I am in a competition for TQ's Biggest Looser.

I want to welcome you Dxanith. Things may seem dark right now, but you can change it. I was morbidly obese and despondant when I realized I could not qualify for surgery due to my weight. But I worked hard at it, and I got help. Surprisingly to me, eventually I made it.

I didn't do it alone, there were many people who helped me. You can make it too, I'm sure of it. If you want to talk about problems here, there are many people who will at least help with suggestions and advice. All you have to do is want it, and ask.

Just saying hello I don't have whole lot of uplifting things to say about myself other than I have been rough time. I am in the tg category and been all over the map around my stuff with it plus various health issues I put on over hundred pounds and this been at my heaviest, most unattractive and miserable period for what seems like to long in my life.
Next month I am turning 46, I have been dealing with various crap for while. I am pretty discouraged and feeling pretty helpless at the moment.

Hi Lex,

Welcome to the group. I'm a huge fan of SF and fantasy. One of my all time favorites is the Discworld series bt Terry Pratchett. And I'm an addict of WOW, I'm actually part of a large group here on Spark called WoW Ladies. My two main tunes are a hunter and a paladin.

Just finished reading "World War Z" by Max Brooks. I couldn't recommend it highly enough, really a great book. It is a narrative told by many people who experienced the zombie war, written ten years afterwards. I'm currently into the Dresden files, about the fifth book I think.

Hey everyone,

I'm 20 years old, got a year left on my undergraduate studies (philosophy and anthropology), and FtM. I just found this team though I've been using SparkPeople since the beginning of the year... lost about 20 lbs already and am really enjoying exercise way more than I thought I would. I've been out for two-and-a-half years and really want to finally get in shape... look the way I want and make eventual chest surgery go more smoothly. Plus, then my binders wouldn't get so stretched. Not much interest in hormones or bottom surgery, but I'd love to show off some well-toned pecs on the beach. That's how I do it: physical androgyny, social masculinity.

Also a huge nerd, so if there's any more of you out there, awesome. Dungeons & Dragons, LARPing, Warhammer 40k, all that. emoticon

Cheers,
-Lex

Welcome Time Lord (Dr. Who perhaps?) !! I hope some of the guys around here will pipe up and add their own comments and help. But I totally understand your feelings of realization. And family, oy! One step at a time though. I was always the cautious one, I wanted to be absolutely positively sure before I made my next step. I wanted NOT to be a transexual, because of trials that lay before me. I'm now happier than I ever hoped for, and it is such of a relief being only one gender, instead of being one inside and having to present as the other just to get by in society.

So welcome to the group. Please feel free to join in any discussion or, even better, begin a new one. Good luck!

Hi all. I'm FTM...but pre-op and everything else. I'm kind of still new to accepting my realization. I've always felt male...I just couldn't get myself to say...you're right, I really am male and I should be male. I learned to accept this recently after meeting some people online that I have become friends with, one of them being very similar to me. I was able to relate to them and have now come to terms with how I feel I am supposed to be.
I just ordered a chest binder...and I got a bit of a guy haircut (even though everyone says it looks like a girl cut...I got it out of the guy haircut book...grrr)
At this point I am still afraid to tell my family. I don't think they would handle it well at all and I really don't want to get thrown out of the house. I am almost finished with getting my college degree through, so hopefully I can work soon and earn some money for my own place. Then I can really pursue my FTM goals...

The game is afoot, Watson!

Hey y'all!
I'm Riley, a thirty something FTM bearish sort of guy. I've been hit or miss with Spark so hopefully this group will come to spur me on a bit. I had my surgeries (hysto and chest reconstruction) in 2003-04, so I've been "done" for a while. I haven't been on hormones recently because my liver levels haven't been great. I hope to get fit and get on hormones again.

Happy new year all... here's hoping it's a good one.

Hi, I'm Kori - a 28yr old from Boston and I currently identify as FtX & transgender. I started T last month (which is exciting and felt a bit like Christmas come early) and am hoping to have top surgery within the next year. I'm a grad student in religion and I just finished my masters thesis on transgender theology.

I'm on Spark because I've been trying to 'get back in shape' for awhile and something always seems to derail me or I fall off the wagon. I'm hoping that this time around I can keep better taps on things.

Gotta say, I was thrilled to find this team since I'd been defaulting to ignoring my gender identity here on spark.

Welcome! I also had a giggle at your post... I have to do that with some of my co-workers when they ask questions about why my hubby has so many doctors and what surgery he was off for last year. I forget that only some of them know, and then I have to find a way to explain what I'm on about! lol He already had his top surgery, but the hysto is coming up in December... hope he recovers quickly so we have a good Christmas!
Anyhow, nice to meet you! =]

Hi Michael,

Welcome to the gang!

Your post made me smile, I remember having to dodge those questions about my surgery when I took time off for my gender correction. For the inquisitive men just telling them it was a "female problem" would shut them up right away. LOL!

Good luck, and we're glad to have you here.

Hi, I'm Michael.
FTM and just one step left in my transition - I still need chest reconstruction surgery.

I'm doing the c25k program for the second time and finding it much harder this time around. For an added degree of difficulty, I have to run wearing a chest binder - like running isn't already challenging enough, right?

I was glad to find a trans team, because although I have the best Spark Friends one could possibly imagine, they would have no reason to be able to relate to the added challenges of being trans.

Here's a funny side note - I have been on Spark for a long time. Last year I had a hysterectomy. When I took a Spark break for the purpose of surgery recovery, some of my friends asked what surgery I was having. When I told them I was having a hysterectomy, a couple of them thought I was pulling their legs and wrote back, "If you didn't want to tell us about your surgery, you could have just said so!"

Oh the joys of being trans!
