Hi I'm Kara, I am a stay at home mom, homeschooling my two kids. Exercising at home seems to be about the only way I can get it in without letting it slide. I just membered up with yogavibes.com for Yoga classes since they are so expensive at a studio. So far I am enjoying them. Today I started the bootcamp videos here on SP as well. After reviewing my caloric intake I realize that working out is the best way to keep below the max calories, I'm usually just a few above the limit. :)

Hi My name is Gail

I have been working out at home since it dawned on me that I needed to do something to get back happy, back in 2008. I have been off an on but since this pass April 2011 I have been on.....tracking (nutrition) tracking (fitness) eating healthier and staying active. I find that the winter months are my hardest, so this winter I thought I should challenge myself to stick with it. I enjoy doing video workouts so I purchased the Supreme 90 Day System to help me make it through. So far so go although I am not even half way through my winter, living in Wisconsin LOL......The S90S is a 90 day program full of different ways to challenge yourself, I am currently on day 11, almost to that 2 week mark whew! This 10 DVD series should take me to the 1/2 point for winters in Wisconsin. At that time I will find something else to help me through the rest of the winter months. If anyone has any suggestions on how to stay motivated during the winter months. I would love to hear them!

Hi all,
I am new to the team.
My name is Denise.
Working out at home is the most logical to me, and this is how I get my exercise in.
I go on Walks and i have 2 of Mari Winsor DVD's for doing Pilates. They are very challenging.

I'm getting in some workouts and going to buy leafy greens at farmer's market today. Might see if I can do the January challenge after all.

Hey everyone. Starting Jan 1 I'm going to create a monthly challenge. I'll start the thread later this week with what the challenge is going to be. You can check into that thread at the end of each week and post the points you earned for completing that challenge each week.

The person who earns the most points can help me create the following month's challenge.

Please leave me a note above in this thread if you are excited about doing the challenges. They will be things you can do from home and will encompass nutrition as well as exercise.

I was thinking about a challenge we could do as a group. I've already got a challenge going on facebook for the 12 days of Christmas. It's 12 push ups, 11 lunges, 10, mtn climbers.. etc. You get a new exercise each day.

I'd love to get you guys in on it!

I went with icing it several times per day and taking ibuprofen. Also got a BandIt device to wear just below my elbow and used analgesic cream. I didn't rest it enough early on though, and now I'm resigned to just let it alone as much as possible. It's my right arm and I'm trying to do what I can left handed, but that turns out not to be much. emoticon
I agree form is very important and think that bad form trying to do some Olympic lifts and trying to do pull-ups is what's behind this injury.

What are you doing to get your arm back to working?

I tried Crossfit for one month. Prior to that I had been going to a gym called CATZ where we do a lot of circuit training, speed, agility, core work, stability work, etc. It's really fun and it's a full hour workout where sometimes you are going for time, strength, etc. I wrote a pretty in-depth blog about the two gyms http://www.thegetinshapeworkoutplan.com/ca
tz-vs-crossfit/

Now I do my own heavy lifts, but I'm currently taking a month to step away from the heavy lifts and work with a Russian Olympian to perfect my Olympic Lifts. There's a lot of questionable beliefs at Crossfit. As a trainer, I think perfect form is more important than the amount of weight someone can lift in a certain time.

Yes, I have a garage gym. A lot of rickety stuff, some old weights that someone gave us, but have a rowing machine. Can't use it now since my arm is injured. What did you replace CrossFit with?

Hi all

I'm a newbie to SP and the team.

I'm hoping to get in shape and become fitter, I have to workout without the aid of a gym using DVDs and any other method I can, that doesn't cost too much.

I've got a bike (though the weather is not too good at the moment for bike riding in England..too cold brrrrrr without the right gear to wear, so that will have to wait until the Spring) however I'm confident I can still exercise using what I've got to hand, jogging, walking, using the stairs etc.

Hope to get to know you all over the coming weeks and months.

Thanks. I made that name when I was watching Six Feet Under and Sopranos.
Here's a link to CrossFit www.crossfit.com/ They have demonstration videos on the site and they've started showing the competitions on ESPN.
The idea is to work everything differently all the time so your body doesn't have time to adapt. They put up a different routine every day for three days and take a rest day on the fourth. The thing is, most of the workouts are tough. I scaled them down a lot, but not enough. Looking forward to getting back to it when my arm feels better.

Hi everyone. Just joined this team since I think home work outs are the best way to go. I walk or hike the local trails for most of my cardio. I have some old workout tapes I still pop in once in a while or borrow a DVD from the library. Also have lots of weights and swiss ball, benches, etc. I tried to follow a scaled version of CrossFit here at home, but I gave myself tennis elbow so have to rest the arm.

Hey guys!!

My name is Kyra and I am a new co-leader.

I am a NASM personal trainer at a sports club in Massachusetts. I am working toward getting a second certification as a nutrition specialist through NASM as well as I know nutrition is a HUGE piece of the puzzle.

I work with clients on a one-on-one basis as well as a small group basis to do anything like lose 50 pounds or to get stronger and leaner and more athletic.

I also train clients virtually through my website www.thegetinshapeworkoutplan.com to attain their goals.

Most of my virtual clients do at-home workouts so that is something I specialize in.

I'm looking forward to reading all of your intros and leaning how I can best-help this team.

Please message me privately if you have any other questions or feedback!

Kyra,
The Get In Shape Girl

Hi everyone! I love working out at home. Gives me control and privacy and no time or weather restraints. The first half of this year I was a rockstar, beginning with 90 days of turbo fire and continuing with brazil butt lifts and insanity, I was in the best shape of my life. But the in august, med school started and sadly I am back to eating too much candy and failing to workout. Needless to say, I am trying to get back to regulating myself. I am starting insanity again next week and am an active bechbody coach for anyone that cares to join me

SVELTE-TO-BE: Welcome to Spark and to the team. I have about 120 DVD's! LOL Mine are mild by comparison to what you are into probably. I do have some wonderful Yoga ones which is one of my choices in the AM.

Because of my particular lifesyle and physical issues my program (when I re-start it this Thanksgiving) is particular to my needs.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Hi, everyone. I'm trying to get back in shape and lose some weight. I've found in the past that working out at home in the early morning works best for me, so I'm very interested in hearing what the rest of you do, especially any DVDs and instructors that you particularly like.

I worked out this morning to a Petra Kolber dance DVD. She's one of my favorites--perky without being TOO perky (this is first thing in the morning!) and she usually picks music that I like. In general, I tend to like workouts that involve my mind--dance and kickboxing. I used to enjoy step, but I have arch and knee problems, so I need to keep things low impact.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and to journeying with you on our road to improved health.

Joanna....that is quite an accomplishment! 1/2 of a serious DVD is better than none!

I got some of my new DVD's in the other day. Qi Gong from the Exercise To Heal series with Lee and Karen Holden.

I have insulin resistant muscles. My morning DVD's are focused on getting my body to cooperate. My pm dvd's are the more serious workouts. I love it all!

Hi - this last week I've been using a new DVD from the 10 minute solutions range - a lot more intense that what I was doing before but I'm seeing results. I hope that can get to really look forward to doing it - I only really enjoy about half of it at the moment

Hey all...My name is Rachelle and am new to this thread. I always workout at home, so this should be a good fit. Today is my "rest day", but am doing Wii Biggest Loser Ultimate Challenge - 8 wk box fit in moderate challenge set. Yesterday I burned 325 cal in 45 min. You don't need a gym membership with all the inexpensive equipment available for home. I own weights, a rubber band thingie, an aerobic stepper, old VHS's, DVD's and CD's. I can walk indoors and outdoors. I can walk up and down my steps.

All we really need are a good attitude, a good pair of legs and possibly arms to do what we need to do even if we don't own any of the equipment I just mentioned.

These forums help us develop the right attitude. The rest is up to you/me/us. WELCOME!!!

I just joined the team and can't afford a gym membership. I have quite a bit of workout equipment at home that I have gotten at garage sales and I get work out DVDs from the library so I can mix things up more often. I think that this team will keep me motivated to keep up the work at home.
