I hope to make some new friends here. I have joined a few teams and try to visit each forum at least once a day.

Hi Folks,

I just found SP a few days ago. I'm 65 years young and sometimes feel like I am backing up. I'm mother to 3 and grandmother to 8.
I am companioned but only for the purpose of having someone to go dancing with, since that is my one excercise passion, and I don't like to go unescorted.

I have so many hobbies and interests that I won't bore ya'll?
I live in TX, and am back on what used to be our farm before all the siblings left home and daddy gave up farming.
I retired and moved back to the property when my mom became infirm and cared for her until her death in '99. By then she had sold all but 5 lots (or about 3/4 acre), which is plenty to take care of, since flower growing is one of my hobbies.

Looking forward to getting acquainted with all you lovely people.

I live in my own little world, but I like it here.

Hi,
I am so excited to chat with all of you that have been a part of this program. I am married to a wonderful man that does not think I have to lose weight but I know better. I do need help and any ideas that you can share with me. I am busy with work and church but so are a lot of other people that are successful at weight loss.

I am 65, Coordinator of a Residential Treatment Center for teenage boys. I live in Wyoming and love it here.I have 4 children, 2 stepchildren, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your team.

Hi all,

Well, I'm over 60, so I guess that qualifies me. I joined last January to get ready for my trip to the Grand Canyon, but haven't followed through. I'm back again because my weight is back up to where I was 5 years ago...not good. I started the South Beach diet last week & have lost 5 pounds so far, but need to lose 15-20 more.

My daughter died in July, so that set me way back and now I need to get on track again. I'm motivated now, but hope I can stay that way till I reach my goals.

I go to the gym & work with a trainer once a week & I'm trying to walk at least 20 minutes every day (hard to walk more because of plantar's fasciitis in my left foot). Anyway, hope to build that up to at least 30-45 minutes a day.

I only work 5 hours/day now, so should have plenty of time for that, but seem to have too much else going on. Need to set my priorities.

Can use help/support. Oh, I live in Seaside, California & it's in the upper 50s right now with sunshine.

Thanks, hope to hear from you.

I KJDL - I joined in July this year. My loss has been slow, but I'm sort of happy with that. Christmas cookies have done me in a bit, even though I put them in the freezer as fast as I can. Tues., Fri., Sat. & Sun are the parties at our house, then I can clear all that "stuff" away and get ready to go south. Lots of good seafood and walking every day in the sun. Welcome to the group! emoticon

At 66, I belong here. Unlike the rest of you, I am single. Have siblings, nephews, nieces, grandnephew, and grandnieces, but no children. Am so glad that there are no "old maids" anymore, just single people!

2003-2004, I went from 243 to 150. Then I stopped logging and weighing. June of this year, I discovered I'd regained all but 9 of those pounds -- unacceptable! I restarted logging and weighing. The pounds aren't disappearing as fast as before (by 20 pounds), but they are leaving. My goal is merely to leave obese behind. Then maintain for a bit before determining my final goal.

Just restarted at Curves for exercise.

I'm a native Washingtonian (DC), moved to Maryland suburbs. Retired from the feds. German Shepherds are my dog of choice. As soon as I have a date for moving into my renovated house, I will get a new one. Life is too hectic for a dog right now.

I'm enjoying SparkPeople, but may have to cut down the time I spend online.

End of introduction.

Welcome, it is nice to meet you. I live a very different life style, but it keeps me busy. I live on a farm and raise cattle. I got to visit PA this summer. My brother and sil bought a house in a little town called Allensville. We saw a lot of Amish there. Good job on the weight loss. Several of the people here have made goal too. I am working on it and will get there eventually.

Thanks Linda.

You're making me blush. Thanks for the compliment.

When I joined WW, the team leader told me it would be slow coming off because of my age. Huuump!

Well some of the young ones are still trying to get
rid of the excess weight. I guess it all depends
on what you believe.

This looks like a great team. Looks like you also
work in a Service job. Lots of fun. I enjoy meeting all the new people and the new jobs they are doing. I work in the Real Estate field in an area that has a lot of relocating. We are only 1/2 hour from Center City Phila., 1/2 hour to the NJ Princeton
Corridor and 1 hour by train to NY city. People are constantly getting transferred to other areas of the USA. But I have always lived in this area and I love it here. We are also only an hour to Atlantic City for the Casino's and also the Jersey beach areas. Great transportation connections also, so that is why it is an ideal spot to live. Lots going on at all times.

Keeps me and the body moving. Got to move to lose
weight.

And of course, people always want to feed us. I don't know why that is.

Have a good night. Cheers! emoticon

It definitely is a busy group. When we first married, we tried to do Christmas with all of them, but that was 41 people (at that time) and my kids are quiet...his are gregarious Germans, so that didn't work, plus they are all adults; not like they're little kids with step-brothers and sisters, so it's a quiet time when mine are here for their Christmas, and lots of whooping good time when his are here. Love those grandkids but all except 3 are getting towards college age or are in college, so we don't get to see them very often. We have three grandsons, ages 1, 3, and 5. No girls for 14 years. What's up with that!!! My kids are done, his probably are, so we'll have to wait on Gr. Grandchildren. Glad to be part of the "medicare" crowd!! emoticon

Hi - Summerglo recommended I join you all. Being 67 and 11/12, I qualify. We live in Ohio, have 10 children between us and 22 grandchildren. Life is good. I am trying to lose weight because I just didn't feel healthy, and of course, I know I was not eating right. I have a challenge for myself, to fit a dress I bought for grandaughters wedding Jan. 25th. It is snug, but it WILL fit by then. I am part of lose 20# by Dec. 25th, but I didn't do so well with Thanksgiving, and gained 2 back. Onward and upward I always say. Thought this would be a good group as we're in this boat together! emoticon

Hello, everyone! My name is Janet. I joined SP in January 2006, but my husband died in February 2006 and I gradually regained the 10 pounds I had lost, so I am starting again. I think SP is the "ultimate" approach to healthy eating and goals-setting.

I have two grown sons, worked at a homeless shelter for nearly 25 years, then retired earlier this year. I now do volunteer work for the shelter, mostly working on their network from home, also teaching some on-site classes.

I like the challenges here and the "fun" topics. Look forward to my visits!

Hi Everyone and emoticon for the warm welcome.
I guess I shouldn't be in such a hurry to get to my goal. I should enjoy the clothes fitting better and in some cases being able to get into pants and jeans I haven't worn in a long time. Kindermom, you asked how I picked my username. Well, when I was little my Mom would call me Ladyjane and her birthday was on the 30th of March, so I went with it.
Hope to be chatting with all of you soon. emoticon

Welcome Colette!

Stay motivated! Keep moving! Eat less!

The biggest help for me was the food tracker. I also bought one of the small scales to weigh the food portions. I tried to eat at the bottom of the recommended range at least three days a week. Go for it!

I was determined.
Now it's time to be diligent.

Hi Colette and Welcome Aboard! We are so glad you found us and look forward to chatting with you on our journey to a more healthy lifestyle. I can't tell you how to lose a pound a week other than to say if you stick with the program as far as calorie counting and exercise routine it will eventually all fall off. I'm one of those that lets life get in the way! I'm doing much better but have a long ways to go. We do have members who are at their weight goal and have continued with SP to maintain their weight as well as be a support and motivation tool for the resto of us. Good Luck with your goals and again so glad you joined us.

yo-yo dieter for years. I haven't lost as much as I was hoping for by now and that can be upsetting too. I was doing pretty good till the past few days and for some reason I was extra hungry and all for the wrong things....I ended up gaining a pound back emoticon
I live up in the NE part of Ohio with my husband of 3yrs.(we have known each other since 7th grade but went separate ways) I have 2 grown children and 3 beautiful grand babies, Chloe almost 29months and Sean and Matthew 5 1/2 month old twins. I love all sorts of things and seem to start many projects only to get upset because nothing gets completed. Any suggestions on how to lose at least one pound a week.

How did this big change happen?? Well,my husband decided he wanted to move out of CA because of the rising costs of doing business there. My daughter and I looked for a place that had a change of seasons, because we had never lived in a place that did. We wanted it close to water (I love the ocean and miss it). It had to have good medical facilities, jobs and a college. We moved to NW Arkansas. It has big lakes, The University of AR, and great hospitals and doctors. It is the corporate home of Wal-Mart, so it has a lot of growth. It also has a lot of cultural activities.
We didn't plan on a farm when we moved here, but we saw this place and the feeling was so peaceful that I fell in love with it. My kids and several friends have moved here since we did. They all fell in love with the place. My typical day starts with feeding and checking the cows, walking or running the dogs, and feeding the calf I have up. Then we do whatever needs to be done. It could be fixing fences, or getting cows up if something needs to be done for them. Right now we have a couple of cows due to calve, so they need to be watched in case they need help. I also have to do all the normal stuff, like cleaning house etc. I am also going to go back to work soon. No retirement for me yet and I would get bored if I weren't busy. Although I do love to read and enjoy some time to just sit and do that.
Up until last year we raised chickens commercially for Tyson. That meant we had about 40,000 chickens to take care of and that was nasty work. I am glad we opted out of that. We use the chicken houses to store hay now. The dogs also think they are a good playground.
That is about all I can think of about me.
I am glad I found this site.

Hi Bonnie,

I made a comment and asked a question on your sparkpage before I read your post. How did this big change happen? How many cattle on your farm? I would love to hear more about an average day in your life.

Kathy

I was determined.
Now it's time to be diligent.

Hi, I can't believe I hadn't found this team before.
I am 64. I am a native Californian that has been transplanted to Arkansas. We have a cattle farm and it keeps me busy. It is easy to get in your exercise when you are chasing a cow around the pasture, climbing fences, lifting 50 pound bags of feed etc. It is a real life change for me. I was an office manager in a doctors office and sat a desk most of the day before I moved here. It was a great move and I love it. I hope to get to know all of you.

Hello, I started with SP earlier in the year but for various reasons, including travel, didn't keep it up, and my weight crept up a bit again, but I am back now and enjoying posting and interacting with other members.

I've noticed that a lot of new members, not only on this team but other teams that I belong to have not set up their "Sparkpages". Some do this for privacy reasons but others do not know how to do this. So..when you log on to Sparkpeople..go to "My Tools", Then click on "Start". At about the top center of the page is an article called "Getting Started Guide". Click on this and you will have all the information you need to get started with SP. There is also a neat article that just came out on "How to navigate the Team Pages". It has been added to the "Over 60's" favorites that you can find to the right and scroll about all the way down. This is a good article. If you still have questions, just ask! Someone will help you. emoticon

OH Gee! I have a twin! Welcome to the Over 60's. So glad to have you on board. I can relate to your issues and sure a lot of the other members can too. There are no easy answers...maybe take one issue at a time and work on it. They say it takes 2 weeks to form a habit. I have to keep reminding myself to finish the project I'm on before starting another. Come on team members...let's offer suggestions! emoticon

emoticon Hi, I'm about to turn 64 and can't seem to get control over my life. I tend to be scattered, try to do too much... I'm very creative so am always thinking up new things to do and never seem to finish the old ones! I'm an interior decorator and event planner and am also very involved in the civic groups of our small city. I have such good intentions to stick to an exercise and eating plan, but have trouble staying with it for more than a few days! I belong to the local YMCA, but can't seem to get there on a regular basis... any advice??? Help!
