Good morning! New to SparkPeople and anxious to browse the site for support, recipes and ideas! I have lost 60 lbs. since December and have quite a way to go (another 100 lbs.) I am a new grandmother to 2 beautiful baby boys and made the decision that I would like to do everything in my power to be around to watch them grow. I was pointed in a direction where that would not have been possible. What better motivation?! I'm proud of my progress thus far but recognize this is not a "diet" but my new lifestyle and IT FEELS GOOD!

Greetings to All - I've been a Spark person for many years and, me bad, I have yet to reach my goal. I am 66 yrs. young, married, retired and hated it so I went back to work part-time, and live in sunny AZ. I just had a total right hip replacement in early March and I'm so grateful to be pain free after fooling around with it for over 3 years. I only wish I had done it sooner! Now I can't wait to get back to hiking in the desert and working out in the walking pool. I go for my second follow-up with the surgeon next week and I'm sure I'm going to get the "go-ahead" to do these things. Being in pain so long, I had to stop being as active as I was - so, I actually put on about 6 pounds. Now I feel the time is right to get it off plus the other 20 lbs. I've been fooling around with since 2004. Yes, that was not a type-o. I have been playing with the same 20 lbs. for over 10 years! You know the drill - lose 2 lbs. - gain 1 lb. back - lose 4 lbs. - gain 5 lbs. emoticon I've decided it's time to finally lose it and I look forward to any tips and support this team can give me - and I can give the team emoticon

Hello All! I am new to the team and new to message boards so please excuse me if I get the how-to's wrong. I am a 67 year old semi-retired writer who enjoys hiking, traveling and my hobby of entering sweepstakes online. Losing weight and maintaining my health is my top priority now.

Hi all! Hope you are feeling well today. I am almost 66 and for the most part can't really complain. I would like to start paying attention to what I feed myself again like I have done in the past. I had been taking a medication (since then have stopped) which pretty much obliterated my appetite but instead what I did eat was with no attention to what is actually good for me. I am perfectly happy with just coffee with sugar and heavy cream for breakfast. I eat salty foods, bacon, red meat, drink wine and beer (craft) and eat very little fruits and vegetables. I have had a stroke (10 years' ago) and take hypertension medicine. I never smoked, have been vegetarian in my youth, and went through periods in my life where I was very health conscious. I guess I am still for now reaping some benefit for that. But with a heavy family history of stroke I need to stop not caring what I eat and pay attention again.

Hi all, I had to get a pacemaker a year ago and still can't figure out what exercises are safe for me to do. I walk, use elliptical and treadmill, but am getting frustrated that I am getting no where.
My name is Criss. I will be 61 this year and just want to feel healthy and happy.

Hi All - I'm new here and looking for support to get healthy. I have been battling this weight for almost 20 years and am determined to get healthy before I turn 70 next year.

So glad to be here. Looks like a fun team to be on and also one that understands the extra challenges we seniors face.

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if I didn't do this right. I am reinventing myself this year. My goal is to be healthier mentally, physically and spiritually.
I am determined that I will walk at least 2 miles a day and do some strength training. It's real cold here so walking outside will be a challenge, emoticon .
I am going to need help staying away from sugar so don't be surprised to hear from me about that. emoticon

Hey there, I am another returnee; however, I only gained a few pounds back, but I did stop losing, I am 63, soon to be 64, or maybe 44, already tired of being old emoticon ! However if I can get some more of my weight off, I will enjoy life more and live every moment. I hope I can be of encouragement and offer an occasional motivational thought and likewise, I hope to be encouraged and motivated as well. Thanks for having me, I am looking forward to getting to know you. emoticon

If you're happy & you know it, clap your hands (clap, clap!).

Hello Fellow over 60's Sparkers emoticon . I still work full time and recently moved in with my 88 year old father. He is quite well mentally, just slowing down some physically. It has been a challenge for me because I have lived on my own for any years. I feel blessed to still have him here. I have recently been diagnosed with diabetes emoticon and that is the primary reason I am here on Spark. I think Spark is an awesome site to help with motivation and keeping on track. I look forward to meeting everyone and giving and getting support emoticon

Hi, everyone. I am glad to be back. I am 63 years old and retired. Looking for accountabillity from you. I have lost 16 pounds and need about 7 to 9 for goal weight. Lowering my BMI has been my goal. I am almost there. I have decreased my intake of carbs and sugar. However, the holidays really set me back. The sugar cravings are maybe/sort of getting better. I just need your assistance. Thanks.

One thing I have discovered is that if you don't eat at least 3 times daily, your metabolism goes into starvation mode and slows down, which the studies also conclude. So eat at least a snack at dinnertime, even if you aren't hungry.

Hi! I'm 66, spinster, diabetic & have had kidney stones, so diet is a major problem - what is good for the general SparkWorld is not so good for me - whole grains out, high oxylates out, et cetera - these are contributors to kidney stones. I have seen a dietician, but she concentrated more on the diabetes. I'm having difficulty finding vegs that are ok besides cauliflower, and I am reaching my limit on how often I can eat that.

New here, was looking for a 60+group. I am 62 ,mother of two, grandmother of five. I take care of them daily. Getting 4 off to school , and our two year old stays with me all day. They keep me young and active. I do yoga each morning at 5:00 am,when hubby leaves for work. I lost 20 lbs. On weight watchers 2 yrs. ago, but put it back on. I feel much better when it is off.
My problem is I don't eat healthy or enough, not hungry after lunch. I don't eat again until the next day. I appreciate any input. Thankyou

Welcome Diane I have been a member of SP since 2009. For me, it's my conscience to stay on maintenance.....I find that to be every bit as hard as losing....:( I love food and have a hard time eating "small". I am 76, have bad knees, but try to stay positive. This group of people, keep me going. I hope you find it that way, too. A lot of it is up to you. I have found some games I enjoy from the game board and I now have the Sparkpeople tracker which keeps me moving more.....still have a long way to go though....HeeHee! Since this weight thing is a life long problem, this free site is fabulous and the encouragement here is super!

Hi, I'm Diana and determined to see my 60s and beyond through with a sparkle. Thank you for my 'Welcome' email. I love the fact that this seems to be an active group, friendly and encouraging.

I live in the UK, still work in Special Ed, have 4 grown kids and 2 grandies. I have a few contrary body parts but I do what I can to keep the engine running and the wheels turning.

Look forward to meeting you all. emoticon

Hi, I'm Arlene. Age 66 for a few more months. Retired since 2008. Was on SP back in 2010-11 time frame and lost 40 lbs - kept it off till 2013.

Then my hubby had a stroke and I went totally off it. Stress big time, stress eating, you name it. Couldn't sleep for fear that he would have another one, didn't exercise as I didn't want to leave the house or take time to do at home. He had another one in Sept of this year which left his speech a bit affected.

Gained 30 lbs back and could see more happening if I didn't do something.

So, I'm back and need to get back in shape to help me and him. Plus I have 3 beautiful grandkids that I want to be able to play with. I used to have fun playing outside with them now I get so out of breath - just not willing to give up.

Thanks for letting me join the team --

Arlene

Hi everyone
I'm Judy and haven't been very active on SP, although I often read articles. I had been at goal for several years until several rounds of steroids. Now I find myself up over 30 pounds. I am going to weight watchers meetings and find its a plan I can follow. Some physical issues limited my exercise, but most things are now managed and I'm ready to get back to goal and into a closet full of clothes. I'm retired, but stay active volunteering for a nonprofit and church related activities. Nice to meet you all.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

Welcome Lynn. It is a very supportive group.
I lost 50 lbs in 2008 and managed to put back 30 of it. I am now down that 30 and trying to hit a new goal which is about 4.5 lbs away. I have lost the last 15 since joining this group just months ago!

I am Serena. I live part time on a ranch on the Columbia River in NE Washington state and part time at a lodge on the western side of the state. I was ready to retire this year and decided to transfer and stick around for another couple years.

Hi, my name is Lynn. I lost 60 pounds 13 years ago and have yo-yoed 20-30 pounds since then. I've been in a private Spark Team for years but seem to have lost motivation to work on the last few pounds. My family and I have had some major health issues over the last 2 years and I really think that is what has drained my motivation - for hobbies, for social activities and for weight loss. So I have been refocusing on all those things and joining this team is one step in that direction.
The pic I am currently posting in order to help get back the motivation is from the original weight loss 13 yrs ago.

Hello. I am Serena and have been with SP for several years. Had backed off with my team postings when I seemed to hit a wall. I am 61 and work fulltime as a hospital social worker. I have 4 grown children who are lovely people. I live with 2 golden retrievers and 2 papillons and I have a fabulous AQHA gelding, Max. I use a fitbit--no, I am addicted to my fitbit--and hike most mornings with the dogs for 5+ miles on trails near my house. I live on an island in a rural setting and love it. Recently I had some minor day surgery and it has affected my appetite. I have lost 7 lbs in the last 8 days. It seems to have broken through the plateau I had hit but I am really having to work at eating. I feel like I am ready to get back into a support group so here I am!

I loved the "Golden Rule" that was on our childhood rulers back in the 50s. It's as important today as it was back then:
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

emoticon Hello! I'm Diane and turned 60 in March so this team is perfect for me. I live with my sister and two whisker boyz, Timon & Ebony. Recently joined a gym to help me with my weight loss goals and to stay fit.
