I will be 60 this year. I have made every other change possible, but have run out of excuses for not losing the weight. I want to be healthy and well, walk with vigor, travel and have a full life. This is the year for me. emoticon

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I've decided to join SparkPeople to try and inspire that diet that is always going to start tomorrow to actually start tomorrow. I'm sucking down my last giant fountain soda right now and figured if I'm looking for accountability, getting to know some locals working on the same sort of things wouldn't be a bad idea.

A little about myself -- I'm 27 and live in the Clipper Mill area with my fiance. I've been working at a general contractor's office for about a year now, a radical change from my previous career as sales, operations, and labor supervisor of my family's large veggie and flower farm based out of Northern Maryland. Those that frequent the downtown farmer's market in the past 15 years or so have probably bought some manner of produce from me -- I was the bitchy, scowling girl in glasses swearing under her breath most of the time.

I've always been a heavier girl, but despite the extra pounds I was always athletic and always in decent shape. Switching from a highly labor intensive job to one in which is highly sedentary is how I put on 40lbs in the past year -- I'm sure it has nothing to do with the feedbag I strapped to my face for the same period of time. It took me a while to catch onto the fact that eliminating the exercise I got from work needed to be replaced with some other physical activity, and scooting around on an office chair does not cut it.

After living in Northern Maryland on the farm for the past few years, I moved downtown with my then-boyfriend, now-fiance about a year and a half ago. I'm realizing now what a pain in the ass it is to have to drive an hour to see my friends and definitely noticing the lack of local acquaintances when it comes to things like finding work-out buddies or local recommendations.

Anyway, there's no point in me being anymore long-winded than necessary. Hello all! I hope this is the beginning of me participating in what will be a successful journey for all of us.
