emoticon :::nods::: holiday baking with family... ahhhh... we do that with a couple of nephews, make gingerbread houses and cookies. Over the baking day, I usually sample 1 or 2 of everything we make. I decided it was 1 of my *special* occasions and part of participating in life (1 of the times I identified as personally a special event where I enjoying the food was emotionally important to me, to eat some in a rational way).

but overall baking is something I've given up for awhile. I don't make any to take home when I bake at the nephews house, and I don't bake at home b/c I can't stay out of them... and finally asked people in the family not to give me food gifts... these things were all so hard to give up... at least for now...

Twinnie, you must have been reading my mind. I was just going to post: how do we deal with cookie making? I want to have my sisters and nieces over for a day of baking, but I can't imagine not sampling!
HELP!!

Love the Snowman's advice!!!

I think we all need to find our own way through the weekends! Usually, I'm better on the weekends because DH is home and he likes to comment on what I eat (or at least raise his eyebrows!)! Makes me very upset, usually! I've told him it's not his job and that it only makes me want to eat more. Maybe some day he'll get it!

My biggest problem right now is helping one of my friends and her kids (older teens) make cookies and candy for the holidays! Since we use my house and my kitchen and part of my supplies, I feel I should get part of the "proceeds!" Yesterday, we dipped chocolates! I'd never done it before! It was much easier than I thought and we had fun! And I decided to keep some of the work we did - though I did send the majority of it home with them.

Now I just have to limit the amount I allow myself! I've put it in the freezer so it will keep longer and it makes me think twice when I pull it out because I have to wait for it to thaw before I can eat it!

emoticon remember the song *it's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to* ? My 2nd verse was *it's my weekend & I'll eat if I want to....* do you know that verse??? LOL

What is important for the w/e? How can you pamper yourself? We used to have a Sunday breakfast together... dinner out together Fri & Sun eve's. Are those things traditions you want to keep? Can you splurge better?

How else can we splurge? Methinks w/e are for fun too... after the, er, Sat morning chores... did you do chores Sat morning? that's when we vacuumed/dusted... I still think of it as a good time to prep for the coming week, but...

emoticon it's also a good time for those sappy holiday movies

emoticon I was thinking about going out each Sat night to see the holiday lights... (and see how much more show up this week.) We do have a block that decorates and cars drive thru, was thinking of walking it...

ooh, w/e's can so be fun, eh?

emoticon Grrrr! I'm at it again. Following my plan during the week and then letting it rip on the weekend. 4 days healthy and 3 days wild eating... is not a plan for success!

What are ways to combat the old habit of "weekends are for relaxing and eating whatever I want?"

That is a tough one. I would say throw it away but that isn't fair to the kids. Maybe put it outta where you can see it? Or have the kids hide it? I don't know how old they are so that may not be a good idea either. Just remind yourself why you are doing this everytime you pass by the candy. Even if it works once it will be well worth it.

I don't know about Dr. Freud, but will I do?? LOL!

Good for you for putting a stop to it! Whatever IT was! Now you need to be gentle with yourself! You WILL regress occasionally. It's OK. It's human nature! (unless you aren't human!)

Make the next right choice - whether that be looking at your meals to day and eating on the light side or getting in a little more movement!

But DON'T beat yourself up over it! Just pick yourself back up and continue moving forward!!!

This morning when I woke up it spoiled the orgy I was having with an all my very own bag of miniature mounds and three musketeers. This was after demolishing a bag full of marzipan. (Ever notice that these days when you give in to temptation it never quiet lives up to your expectations; well this dream had all the full on flavor and taste from these tasty treats that I remember from my childhood). At some point I came to my senses and spit out whatever was in my mouth, STOP IT Randy, and told my brain that this was a very very bad thing.

Is Dr Freud available?

I was fighting the "decluttering" problem for the past couple of years and finally decided that I couldn't move forward in my weight loss because the "chaos" that was my house was paralyzing me. I didn't know where to start, so I didn't start at all.

This year it became painfully obvious that I needed the house painted and new carpeting. But that would be such a huge undertaking with all of the clutter. So I picked a room and got started. It took the help of my nephew and a solid 3 months to get it done, but it feels so good to have order restored. I don't have to worry about the house, I can spend more time on me.

Don't wait for the "perfect" time or set of circumstances. Be like Nike -- Just do it!

I'm doing an awful lot of changing around of my habits -- going back to grocery shopping instead of having everything delivered, trying to increase my walking a bit month-by-month (from virtually none). Now I have a big thing I'd like, a treadmill desk treadmill-desk.com/ and I am afraid I am going to start to sabotage myself? I'm already pushing hard on moving to a new house by my birthday next year and "want" to get this house all decluttered and even packed before then and I have been half-heartedly working to help my stepson with his business and am behind and doing poorly at that but it won't just "go away" so is eating at my conscience? It would be so easy to just not lose a mere pound a week on this month's contest, to not get my walking numbers up enough, etc.

emoticon dream about tossing it off the balcony... no, make that a 3rd story roof! drop kicking it down the highways! mangling beyond recognition! make it commit scale~i~cide!!! LOL

emoticon all kidding aside, a few years back, discovered mine was 14 lbs off, and went through this same emotional yank. It also meant I was 14 more lbs higher at my all time high weight, and went through a real identity crisis. I never thought I was that 14 lbs higher!

it also evoked a real feeling of discouragement because now I needed to relose that same freaking 14 lbs... which can take me forever... and all I wanted to do was cry and eat...

Thanks for sharing, Lil! I'm getting a little suspicious of my digital scale. I mistreat it and store it on its side and have never changed batteries, etc. I always weigh a whole lot more on my doctor's scale every 3 months so I start depressed right off the bat there, before he's even seen me. DH is too heavy to use my scale I think. I have no storage space and all my floors are carpeted besides my bathroom and kitchen/entrance hall. I keep wandering around the same 2-3 pounds which is getting old.

It is good to rant once in awhile. Better to rant here than dive into the fridge and eat your rant away.

Now you are armed with correct knowledge, so how about making your new scale go down.

I'm so upset. Found out the scale I've been using since June has been weighing incorrectly. Threw that sucker in the garbage today and went out and got one that DOESN'T use batteries. A good old fashion one! Knew something been up when I kept showing a 2-3 pound loss almost weekly but my clothes weren't feeling differently. Then my husband, who doesn't diet--ever, said he lost 12 pounds in two months.

The new scale has me weighing in at the weight I thought was my starting weight in June. I wanted to cry!!! Not only cry because I feel defeated but also because my starting weight was so high--a number I've never seen before! WOW!

Well, I didn't cave into food today. I kept my calories within range & I will continue with my goals but oh so painful to realize I had let myself get so large.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Had a busy but good day at work. Off Monday and Tuesday so plan to wash clothes at laundry, make a nice roast dinner in oven and time permitting take book and coffee to park. We both a lot of healthy foods for the week today. Lots of fruits, and raw veggies for snacks. I did start off day with a soda, but had salad and water for lunch. I hope everyone had a good night and a great tomorrow. Bye! emoticon

I don't want to offend anyone. I'm asking for your prayer now. My wife just called me from work and told me that a supplement check we get each month has been stopped. We are sinking fast. I once again will prob loose access to SP, as I'll have to let things get cut off in order to pay rent, food, etc. I'm really running empty on hope.

I drink cans of lemon flavored water for the fizz and to pretend its pop. The only time I have to have a Coke is occasionally when I'm eating popcorn, which I do 2-3 times a week. But I buy the tiny 8 oz. size Coke cans.

I was lucky, growing up in the 1950s our pop was rationed and we only got 1 a week and a bottle stopper. I never got use to drinking it most of the time. We'd tape our name on our bottle, save it in the fridge and drink it throughout the week -- unless, like some of us, we had 3 older brothers who would trade labels after drinking most of theirs to get mine which had more. However, our stepmother caught them red-handed once and that stopped that.

I like the fizz too, but drink it as a "treat" - usually on the weekend. I drink water and diet iced green tea.

Good for both of you!

I've been having a problem with the diet soda as well. I've switched over to Diet Rite for now. We'll see how that goes for a bit, then I'll change up to something else.

I know for me, it's the fizz I think more than anything else.

I never drink soda except once in a blue moon but for the last week, I am craving Diet Pepsi like there is no tomorrow. I've been drinking at least 10 glasses of water a day so I know it isn't thirst. So frustrating emoticon

The willpower of the diet pop
When logging in my food
Is plain to see (it's in snacks A LOT)
And it really funks my mood.
