You'd sure think so, but sometimes medicos are the worst ones to follow their own advice.

My pharmacist says she "slams" a cup of coffee in the morning after taking her thyroid medication -- I would think a pharmacist would understand the effects of caffeine & meds. on the body. I am still drinking coffee with my morning meds too.

Okay, then. I hadn't heard this about avoiding stimulants if I have hypothyroid. However, it does make sense. And I just discovered that my supposedly sugar-free cappacchino DOES have sugar in it, plus the stimulant from the caffiene. I had a cup this a.m. and my blood sugar has been off the charts all day. Carbonated drinks (anything with that fizz) cause bone loss and osteoporosis.

At any rate, my religion frowns on coffee because it's not good/healthy for the body, so no more for me in whatever form it comes. Why take chances? I've got enough health problems without adding any more.

Thanks for the info.

I've read bromine which can be found in soda's, and some bakery goods adversely effects the Thyroid, also true with fluoride. I have not come across anything negative with coffee yet. My doc said to limit it to 1 cup a day though

Cut out all caffeine (even decaf has some) and you will feel so much better - it worked for me at least!!

I've never read that coffee is bad for people with hypothyroid, but I do know that decaf coffee (unless you buy the really expensive water processed kind) is very, very bad for your bladder and kidneys. I did read recently that people with thyroid disease should avoid fluorides, even in toothpaste, and several foods that I thought were supposed to be healthy. As usual, the results of the research seem to be directly affected by the source of the funds for the research. In other words, whoever is paying gets the results they want to see because anything else is ignored

Hi, guys. I have not been on here for a while. I am still on the thyroid medication. I tried taking it at night because getting up at 5 a.m. and then waiting until 6 to eat, was cutting into my sleeping hours. taking it at night, kept me awake, do not know why. I am frustrated with life, even though I have part of my college paid for. I need a part time job to cover me through all of next year, though. My physical therapy is over for now, my next "release" date from the physician, might be wed. after the x-rays, Hopefully the leg and arm are perfect. It still hurts in some positions, and I am now going to ballys to work out extra. I know that I do better with my weight loss when I do not do the coffee. so I am now up 10 pounds, not happy, but I have been here before, and I know if I switch to decaf and put in the almond milk, and not cow's milk or cream, I can help it a little bit. I will add more water to the diet, and keep walking. I will check in again in a few days, and let you know how I am doing. c.

I read that also. But it said just not to take your meds with coffee. It also said to talk to your dr about possibly taking your meds at night. I think that I will talk to mine about that.

I drink Coffee and Teas, both Caffinated and DeCaf, but tend to drink more DeCaf's. I also drink the DeCaf's of Black and Green teas too. I really dont' see any corrilation between Coffee, teas and Thyroid disorders.

The thing that people should give us is the sodas or pop and other bottled drinks, Not nesscesarly cause of the caffene. But because if you read on the ingredients it's the Sugar! And they are loaded with it. Especially when most drinks they list cane Sugar, sucorlose, Fruitose, High Frutose Corn syrup all in the same bottle of ingredients...That's where your failing at your weight loss efforts!

I learned that too and went decaf with a RARE half cup of caffinated later in the day. Not sure if it has made a difference. Drink Black with sweet n low....easier than I thought not using Fat free half and half. Oh and 2 cups which a huge reduction overall!

I drink about 2 cups of 1/2 caff coffee a day (black, no sugar). I read somewhere that with hypothyroidism, we should avoid any stimulant type of drinks like coffee, tea, and most sodas.

I switched to Folgers 1/2 Caff a month ago and really like it, and wonder how others are doing with coffee and if anyone has weaned themselves off it.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!
