Ha! Maybe we're the only two dingbats in the world with this problem and just happen to meet on SP. emoticon My grandson is very shy because of his deafness and doesn't like to admit he can't hear.

I'm hoping he'll get a little more confident as time goes on.

Happy New Year,
Renie

Renie,
Wow, you are the first to say they heard it too. Everyone I have talked to about it has given me that strange look. Luckily it is gone...for now at least.

So sorry to hear about grandson. But you are right about it usually has to come from someone besides family. Although with my son, I planted the seed of going back on some of his medication for ADHD for about four years, on and off. Finally, he decided he would give it a try. What a difference. He is happier to. I hope it won't take your grandson that long.

I am doing better. Thanks.

Kat: Believe it not, I've had that ear clacking when moving my eyes back and forth, too. Strange, huh? I suspect it's just from the moisture in the eyes as they are close to the ear canals. I just went to the audiologist(?) and she was able to get the crystals back in place and that was the end of the vertigo. My grandson is deaf and has problems with the vertigo. It makes him so sick to his stomache, all he can do is lay there and puke into a bucket. I think he's afraid to go to the audiologist.

Aw well, sometimes we live and learn--but it usually has to come from someone else besides family. Right?

Let us know how you are doing.

Renie,
Meant to say yes the crystals being out of place diagnosis does make sense.
The neurologist has indicated he things my vertigo is a type of migrane. I know I have stress in my life - but if my vertigo is related to migranes there is not enough medicine in the world to keep my blood pressure down. The vertigo is just too frequent. Oh, well we keep on plugging and searching until the doctors tell us something that makes sense or cures the ailment... emoticon

Hi Renie, Yes I will keep you posted. Don't know how I missed your response last time I was on SP. Yes, I frequently have go arounds with vertigo (pun intended). I just got over a three day bout in bed with vertigo and a strange clacking in my ears when I moved my eyes right or left (that was new and weird). Good news, I was up and about for Christmas.

Interestly, I had bloodwork on Thursday and found my doctor's office had left me a message on Friday morning that I did not find until today. My husband did have my phone most of the last two days while he was working on upgrades and whatever. So now I have to wait until next week to find out the "good" news. Somehow when doctor's office calls morning after bloodwork with all that has been going on, I fail to think I am going to get good news. I am wondering will it be the thyroid, glucose, cholestral, or what...

I just listed all of my resources on my spark page in a blog entitled, "Resources". I listed everything that I was reading and using. I hope it helps you and I. emoticon And to answer the question about after exercise fatigue, yes I get it. But I read somewhere that if you workout the next day, it won't hurt so bad. Still testing that theory, I'll let you know if it works.

Hi, Kat. Interesting concepts about those connections and hypothyroidism. My hearing is okay, especially for my age. I did have a spell of vertigo, but it turned out to be the crystals in my ear going out of place. Does that make sense. The crystals move back and forth in your ear when you change positions so you are oriented. If they get out of place, they make you throw up when you move around, especially when you sit up out of bed.

I'm assuming you are talking about a more consistant vertigo. Please keep us informed on your progress. I'd love to know.

Hugs and emoticon

ADUMULL100,
I hope I got that right. Seems lately my short term memory is barely above not there at all. I am using myself as an experiment as well. I am taking something called Adrenal Health. Will let you know how it goes - my problem is in desperation I started several supplements at once and am changing my diet more vegetables (fresh) at same time. It will be hard to say what is working. Look forward to hearing from the rest of you as to how things are going.

My weight is dropping slowly somehere around .5 pounds a week. My thyroid was in low end of normal. I have convince doctor to start me on medication for hypothyroid. But, weight is still moving this slow. When started it was like a boost of fresh air - energy and feel good. Now...

Questions: I seem to be having kick back from exercise lately - fatiqued next day. This happening with anyone else?

I have been struggling with vertigo on and off through the years. I recently read about vertigo and deafness linked to hypothyroidism. My hearing loss was found at preschool screening. Don't think related but wondered about vertigo. Any of you struggling with vertigo that has been linked to hypothyroid?

I am new here and I have become hypothyroid after being hyperthyroid. After radiation, and Synthroid, I have had trouble losing weight. I have done some research and I am using myself as a guinea pig. Last week I started eating fewer carbs at every meal and exercising at least 30 minutes a day. I also started eating less gluten. It worked! I lost 3.8 lbs. last week. I am also waiting for a multivitamin for thyroid to arrive from Amazon. I'll tell you how it works once I get started. If you want the list of books I am reading about hypothyroidism, let me know.

Hello! I've been on Levothyroxine for quite a while now, and even tho my thyroid is 'normal' now, I'm heavier than ever. My diabetes doesn't help either. The only time I got below 200 was when I was really sick for two weeks. I'm feeling very discouraged right now.

Hey, I thought we were supposed to get a new Team Leader. I see her name on the list: Prairiecrocus, but don't see anything posted by her. Has anyone else?

I am taking the same medication and it helps in a way because I don't get dizzy but I haven't lost any weight with it. Hormones are always changing and sometimes when that happens, certain medications don't work as well and need to be changed. It's very difficult to lose weight with Hypothyroidism (at least I think so.) It has been really challenging for me. I think when you talk to your doctor, you really need to be persistent. Don't let him/her tell you to just give it more of a chance. I haven't found anything that has made it easier to lose weight yet, but if I figure something out, I'll let you know. :)

Yes...I've totally been there. It can be so discouraging. I couldn't lose weight no matter what I did after my diagnosis. I would gain, then lose a couple, then gain again...all around the same couple numbers. I was so unhappy...hated myself my body. Ugh!

At one point, my numbers were just coming into check and I was still feeling bad. I talked to a thyroid specialist who mentioned he sometimes would bump his patients' levo dose slightly in cases like mine which usually helped. I convinced my doctor to do this and it helped the symptoms...but not really the weight. I was stuck until recently. I quit drinking which really helped...my body just needed that...and my life. But I also eliminated wheat from my diet after reading Wheat Belly. Maybe it would help you too? Just google it and you will find more info. I started an SP team for it. Anyway, since doing that, for the first time in months, I have watched the scale go down and NOT bounce back up. I usually lose a lb, stay at that for a day or two, then lose another .5 to 1 lb and stay and so on. It's not dropping off ...but it's slowly getting there and it feels amazing.

So I would talk to your doc maybe about a slight bump in your dose to see if that would help. Try some diet changes to see if that helps. Oh...and I definitely recommend supplements. I take kelp, Vit D, and CLA.

good luck!

I'm on the same medication for the thyroid (hypo) for about a month and a half, but contrary to what some of you are experiencing with it, I have felt no change, less energy, weight gain and sadness. Prior to being on this particular medication, I was on another (can;t remember the name), and that one did help me lose weight and steady. It's strange, but, the previous medication that kept me steady, had less mcg's than the one I am on at this time, and I was still in my 50's. I am so depressed over it. I feel like a blimp... Hopeless and helpless...

I had a goiter way back in 1985. Since then various doctors have changed my meds several times and I don't notice that any of them work better than another. My problem, even back then was that I COULD NOT GAIN WEIGHT and I stayed at 93 pounds until I was in my late 50. Since then I did gain weight, have regular thyroid checkups, of course, and have found that the only way to keep the weight down is to eat healthy foods, no transfats if I can avoid them, exercise regularly and walk as often as I have a few minutes to do so. Walking at a good brisk pace actually energizes me, so give that a try. Good luck with your thyroid checkup!

I've been on Levothyroxine since last August when I was diagnosed, and my dr is still trying to get my hormone level to normal. I have to agree with you, at first the symptoms were great, losing weight and energy levels increased. I even started a workout routine because I wanted to lose more weight, unfortunately, I did not, and instead my clothes feel tighter, although I haven't gained but one or two pounds since I was diagnosed. From what I have read, apparently, it will be harder for us who have hypothyroidism to lose weight than normal people. I am trying to figure out a medium watching what I eat and combining it with exercise, but I am also keeping an open mind that I won't lose the weight as easy as I used to. :(

Hi! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year ago, my doctor put me on levothyroxine. The first few months I felt GREAT! Tons of energy, losing weight, happy again and all of my other symptoms went away as well, then it just seems like it stopped working. I have gained over 20lbs in the last 9 months, and almost all of my other symptoms have returned, even though they say my thyroid levels are normal now. Can levothyroxine make you gain weight? Can it just stop working? I have a doctors appointment in 3 weeks and I think I am going to ask her to put me one something else. What should I do? Do you know of any tips or tricks that will make it easier to lose weight? help......
