The problem with Thyroid education ( books ), as I see it, is, they all tell you how to convince your Dr. you have a Thyroid problem in the first place. When I first started having problems, 27 years ago, the Dr. I saw told me that I was crazy. He gave me a prescription for Valium and Xanax. I refused to take them and just muddled on . About 10 years ago, like you, a Dr. appointment, they said I was Hypothyroid. This time I was lucky. My Dr. put me on Armour Thyroid. A lot of the Thyroid literature is about how to find a Dr. who will do that. The same Dr. did let me go on Synthyroid when I asked to try it. I am back on Armour. The way that I tried to educate myself on the topic was checking out library books. Now there are of course websites. I recommend.

I have bought one of her weight loss books. It recommends different vitamin supplements to try, also, what not to bother trying. She tends to be a little heavy on being diagnosed also but she is in my opinion our best advocate.

Hi, MsEllen. I know the feeling. Somehow we think thyroid problems are something others have. I actually found out I had a bunch of little goiters on my thyroid when a chest Xray showed part of my throat. That doc notified my primary doc and away we went.

I don't know how successful others feel their Hypothyroid treatment has gone, but I feel there should be more to it than Thyroid Rxs. Yes, they are a main part, but I don't feel as well as I believe I could. I don't know if I need t change my diet more or in certain ways or what.

Good luck with your journey. Check out info online and educate yourself. I found there are some meds that don't mix well with the Hypothyroid Rx.

Hugs,
