Ladyholyoak, during the therapy I followed we were taught to write a journal entry about the moments when we slipped from the food plan / diet. In the entry we were supposed to write down the 'sabotaging thoughts' as Judith Beck calls them, and to challenge them. We were also writing down 'helpful thoughts'.
Writing down this kind of entries for 20 weeks provided me with a wealth of helpful thoughts that are directly applicable to the specific challenges I meet.
You might consider doing the same: every time you slip, write down the thoughts you had and 'correct' those thoughts, and write down the helpful ones. And just carry around the helpful thoughts you get that way... because they will be 'tailored' to your specific problems with sticking to your food plan.

To me the disadvantage of the book - though I like it a lot - is that we are supposed to write cards with thoughts for EVERY occasion while we may not need to.

When I joined the team (last August), they had just started a group read-thru of Beck Pink, and the suggestion was made to put "Beck Trek" in the days' blog headers. So if you search the SP blogs for "Beck Trek" and maybe "Day 1" or "advantages" you should come across several!

I re-posted my list on January first; here is a link to the blog:

i am very grateful there is a pink thread out there. i was wondering if there was anyone who would like to work with me on this book... i am finding myself stuck on the cards, too... i was putting them on index cards, (not just the thought for the day, but "stop thinking ____ and start thinking "this"..._____, type deals, and i have soooo many negative thoughts that i was not getting through them each day at least 1nce, much less the 5x i understand her to recommend. and, they were tearing up, so i bought mini photo albums (up to 3 48 pagers) and put them in there.

i tried to go through them and eliminate what i have mastered and don't need to be reminded of anymore, but then i am having trouble getting all the books in my purse... the app where i type them all out seems like a great idea.

is there a thread where we see our "whys" of why we wish to lose weight, or what is motivating us?

"so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 cor 10:31

"therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that so easily entangles, and let us run w/perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews

SENANG Ė They have a group treatment at the hospital here too which I might consider for later. Iím already seeing a CBT therapist and a bevy of cancer specialists, so thatís enough for now. Iíll be shopping for either stickers or an ink stamp to give myself little kudos. It does seem childish at first glance, but I think itís the act of giving ourselves credit that makes it work Ė and I have a problem with stopping and acknowledging my successes so I think this will work for me.

OHMEMEME and GABY1948Ė I read somewhere (in Beck Pink?) that itís not just hunger awareness we need to work on, but accepting b eing hungry until our next meal comes up, that you can distract hunger by drinking water (because often itís a matter of dehydration not hunger) or by doing something else. So Iím working on that at the moment, having been trained to (a) clean off my plate and (b) eat whenever Iím hungry because I have hypoglycemia. In fact, when I was little the doctors told my parents to give me chocolate between meals whenever I was hungry so my sugar wouldnít go too low!

GABY 1948 Ė I hope the surgery goes smoothly and recovery is quick and easy!

APHORNE Ė I used to have a Blackberry (for work) and would put everything in that. It seems since chemo I just canít deal that well with electronics Ė I either delete things, or put appts on the wrong date, etc. UGH!!! So a written agenda it is Ė I put everything in that! I do miss having everything on the BB with reminders and such, and admit a having a little bit of iPhone envy right now!

DAYLILY 187 Ė Iíve heard kitchen renovation is one of the most frustrating Ė you should post before and after pics! Iím not up to the finding a diet coach step yet, but itís nice to see that it works!

I did better yesterday in reading the ARC list and giving myself credit (although I still havenít been writing it down as I want to). I successfully fought down cravings for chips last night Ė not sure what that was about! Iíll be reading the next ďdayĒ today.

I'm so happy you are all there and I'm not on this journey alone! emoticon

Hi all. I've been following Beck Pink since the end of November. The ARC cards are in front of me at my computer, in the pocket of the chair I sit in while watching TV and a copy on my tablet. I was really good at reading them at least twice a day, but is now more like 1 every 2 days!

My kitchen is being renovated so I don't have a table to sit at but I do eat all my food sitting down in front of the computer or in the living room while watching TV (not ideal but hopefully when the table comes; I'll be more mindful). Still working on that step:Arrange your Environment"

The most useful thing step I took was step 6: find a diet coach. I am learning so much from her. If you don't have a diet coach - get one!

I'm kind of stalled on my work with Beck but what I can proudly say I am 90% compliant in:
1. Eating only what I have planned with nothing extra between meals.
2. Eating sitting down.
3. Planning my meals in advance.

I need to get busy and start actively working the steps. I'm really enjoying all the messages on this thread and all the insight that is happening!

OHMEME I finally had time to come back and read all the posts....I also tend to be "greedy" and there IS no other word for it...with my food...like I was going to STARVE or something! DUH..one could look at me and tell that that just was NOT true!

SO glad that the threads on the Beck team have perked up....it's emoticon

Hi SEAWAVE -- I put my response cards on my iPhone (in a note app) so they are available whenever, wherever. I read them with my morning coffee, before checking email. I also put the 42 days of Beck Pink in my electronic calendar last year -- and the reminders have been popping up since Jan 1st! Enjoying this "gift" from my 2015 self. So I guess I'm currently doing both Blue and Pink.

PS -- Way to go, OHMEMEME, sounds like you are on top of things!

Just a random Beck thought...just today as I was eating I recalled "leave something behind" technique of not scraping for very last morsel. I am just plain greedy and even more so when my food has been planned, weighed, and measured so this is an area I need to constantly readdress.

It's not even about how much I am eating but the mindfulness of not being so greedy...it is a great fault of me that I am having a hard time giving up.

Today I was also aware of Beck's hunger awareness. I cut a sweet potato in half last night as part of my lunch for the next two days and thought, 'wow, that's not much of a sweet potato serving" but I moved on. Today as I ate I had the same thought. But at 2:20 pm, over two hours after having lunch (and leaving a bite of tuna salad behind...) I realized I was still pleasantly full with just that little serving of sweet potato minus a bite of tuna!

If only I can make these better thoughts stick! It is all in the science of calories and nutrients for energy but my tells me I will surly need more...!

I think I am kinda getting what Beck is attempting to train my brain to think like a thin person...but I am a SLOW SKETICAL LEARNER. LOL

Best wishes to all working through Beck pink, blue, and redoes! Keep Sparking!

I am in group treatment for binge eating problems. They use cognitive therapy and a food plan, combined with bodywork. I was so impressed with the cognitive therapy that I decided I want to know more and got the pink book. So I am not really following the book as in doing day 1, day 2 etc.. but reading the book to get more insights and ideas.

The therapists told us to every day write down at leas three things that we did well and I've found that quite helpful. I also track certain goals in a notebook and when I've met the 8 daily goals I get a sticker! Grin. I thought that was childish at first but it's truly motivational because it means I acknowledge that I made an effort and moved forward.

Just started Beck pink in late December, and already can tell it will take me more than one day to develop these habits until I'm comfortable going on to the next. I'm hung up on Day 3 - reading my Advantage Response Cards before I eat - and Day 4 - giving myself credit.

I have worked out a couple of things for them. The ARC on cards were not working for me, so I have listed them at the end of my Agenda. I add as I think of more, and there are some that are more effective for me than others as time goes on. As far as giving myself credit, I've never been good at that so I'm doing it by smiley faces in my Agenda (where I indicate my accomplishments for the day) and at end of day will list in my "Bravo" Book.

I love Beck pink!

Thought I'd start a thread for those who are reading the pink book... Share anything you like.

For example:

* What insights are you getting as you read along?
* Have you been trying out the advice? How did it work for you?
* How are you liking this method compared to other things you've tried?
