Hi, I am taking a break...Just checking in..I am working hard on my gardens...storm last night left tree limbs and debris all over. The rhodos are in...the new orchard trees are in. I have a spruce to plant and never ending weeding to do. ...plus a lot of daylilies to plant..I harvested and pitted lots of pie cherries to make cherry preserves in September and now harvesting raspberries..hint don't use them in a smoothie! Had my first Greek Salad with cilantro from the garden!

emoticon ISN'T THAT A GREAT FEELING WHEN YOU FINISH SOMETHING?
WE'RE WORKING ON PUTTIN OUR CRAFT ROOM (USED TO BE A 2 CAR GARAGE THAT THE OWNER BEFORE US BUILT OFF OUR BEDROOM INSTEAD OF THE KITCHEN). WE HAD THE OVER HEAD DOOR REMOVED & 3 WINDOWS PUT IN. BEFORE WE GOT IT IN ORDER WE EMPTIED OUT 2 RENTED STORAGE SHEDS (HOWS THAT FOR BEING STUPID?). THEN I GOT SICK & SPENT 2 DIFFERENT STAYS IN THE HOSPITAL SO IT ALL JUAT SAT. ANYWAY, WE STARTED IN ON IT THE 1ST OF JULY. WE HAVE A TRASH BAG FOR BURNING AND ANOTHER TO TAKE TO THE RECYLE PLACE. THE STUFF WE WANT TO GIVE AWAY WE DO AS DOON AS POSSIBLE SO THERE'S NO SECOND THOUGHTS! WE ALSO WENT THROUGH ALL THE COOK BOOKS & GAVE THE ONES WE DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP (4 BIG BOXES) TO 2 LADIES FROM THE AUCTION. THEY WERE ALMOST AS HAPPY TO GET THEM AS I WAS TO GET RID OF THEM!

emoticon TODAY'S SUPPOSED TO BE ANOTHER DAY OF HIGH 90'S WITH A HEAT INDEX OF 106 %. SO HOPING EVERYONE HAS A GOOD AND SAFE DAY! emoticon

Had a good holiday weekend. Hubby and I got to enjoy the porch we built on the front of the house this spring. During the afternoons the deck is too hot to enjoy even with an umbrella so we sit out front now. We relandscaped the whole front of the house. Sometime I will post pics on my spark page (before and after) when I get time. It was quite a project, but looks fantastic now. We were going to work on repairing and painting the shed in back of our house this weekend, but it was just to hot and humid, so that project is postponed for now along with painting the deck.
Hope everyone had a great weekend and has an AWESOME week. emoticon

emoticon OKAN, DOES SHE HAVE A WEB SITE YOU CAN LOOK AT? ORDER FROM? SHE DOES SOUND BUSY!

emoticon YESTERDAY WE TURNED THE AC ON WHEN WE WOKE. THE HOUSE WAS COOL ALREADY. THEN DH WENT & GOT FEED & I MOWED THE YARD. AFTER THAT WE WENT GROCERY SHOPPING. WENT TO SAM'S CLUB TO STOCK UP ON MEAT, THEN SHOP AND SAFE FOR STAPLES AND THEN WAL-MARTS FOR PET SUPPLIES. DH CUTS THE MEAT INTO SECTIONS. I LIKE BEEF WHILE HE LIKES PORK SO HE DIVIDES IT INTO PORTIONS & PUTS IN A FREEZER BAG. I'VE GOTTEN HIM TO JUST DOING A REGULAR PORTION INSTEAD OF TWICE THE AMOUNT IN A SINGLE BAG. BY THIS TIME IT WAS 96 AND THE HEAT INDEX WAS 106%.AFTER PUTTING EVERYTHING AWAY I HAD TO PUT ICE ON MY LEG AS IT WAS BEGINNING TO SWELL AGAIN. IT ONLY HURTS, NOW, AT NIGHT WHEN I TRY TO SLEEP!

SUPPOSED TO BE ANOTHER DAY TODAY LIKE YESTERDAY. DH PLAN'S ON SPRAYING THE FENCE ROLL BETWEEN US & THE LARGE HAY FIELD NEXT TO US. THEY'VE CUT & BALED THE HAY NOW. I HAVE TO DO THE BILLS. I TOLD HIM I'D TRADE BUT HE DOESN'T WANT TO. CAN'T GET HIM TO DO THE BILLS. HE'S AWARE OF THINGS -- JUST DOESN'T WANT TO DO THEM! THIS EVENING IS THE LAST ACUTION UNTIL SEPT. I'M GLAD ABOUT THAT. THE OWNER WON'T TURN ON THE AC (SAID HE WAS TONIGHT) & IT GETS HOT.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD AND SAFE DAY!

COPPERPENNY45 -
My daughters jewelery is made from various different medias. Her jewerly consists of semi precious stones, sea urchens [that she buys from a vender at cost where they are all cleaned out.]
She uses different metals such as gold, sterling silver, copper and stainless steel for some earnings for people that have alergies to various metals. She used me for a ginea pig. She also makes her owm hand blown glass pendents. She fuses various metals and hammers soft metals such as silver and copper in to jewelery. She also makes children jewelery with polymer clay and stretchy nylon wire. The polymer clay pieces she makes is baked, they are unbrakable and stretchy nylon wire eliminates the need for clasps or fittings. It is more child friendly. She takes alot of special orders, for people that want certain jemstones, semi precious stones ect., she sells her samples at the craft fairs.

She makes, jewelry for women, childen and men . Many necklaces, earrings, braclets, rings, ankles, pins, hair accessories, do-dads for vehicles, fridge magnets. She is always experimenting!

Such as tommorow she is going to a Canada Fair as a vender. Saturday and Wednesdays, she sells her jewelery at our local Craft & Farmer's market. She has been doing this for a hobby for the last 10 years. Plus she works 2 graveyard shifts a week in the security field.

emoticon OK, I AGREE WITH YOU. LEAVING A MESS TO CLEAN LATER REALLY MESSES WITH ME. I LEARNED, A LONG TIME AGO, TO DO WHAT EVER I DIDN'T ENJOY DOING RIGHT AWAY & GET IT OVER WITH.

WHAT KIND OF JEWERLY DOES YOUR DAUGHTER MAKE?

WE GOT THE FENCE/GATE UP AROUND THE NEW STRAWBERRY BED. I WAS TRYING TO HELP ( emoticon ) AND CAUGHT DH'S FINGER IN THE WIRE. DIDN'T BREAK THE SKIN. AND, AS I WASN'T WEARING GLOVES, I GOT A BLISTER ON MY PALM. BUT I DID A BIT OF WEEDING & CUT MY FINGER . IT BLEED QUITE A BIT. DID THE WAS & HUNG IT ALL OUT TO DRY. JUST LOVE THE SMELL OF CLOTHES DRIED OUT SIDE.

SUPPOSED TO BE REALLY HOT THURS INTO MONDAY. HIGH 90'S WITH A HEAT INDEX OF 106. GUESS WE'LL BE TURNING THE AC BACK ON. emoticon MIGHT RAIN ON SUN NIGHT.

Today had a do nothing day, getting my bones rested up for Wednesday babysitting. Been following the Casey Anthony trial on TV.

I arrive at daughter's place at 6am and leave by 3pm. So I am up at 5am on Wednesday's and Saturday's I am up at 4am. The early hours is so my daughter can get a vendors spot for the day, selling her jewelery . Waking up a half hour early gives me time enjoy morning coffee, tidy up my place, water plants, set out food and water for my pooch before I leave for the day, as too exhausted when I arrive home, I hate coming home to a mess.

I'm a sew-a-holic so my sewing room closet can get very messy. Often being in a hurry to make the room less messy. I often throw everything in that closet but it was becoming a challange to close the sliding doors. Spent the day re-organizing the sewing closet.

YOU CAN STILL HEAR SOME THUNDER. RAINED ALL LAST NIGHT.

WE GAVE AWAY A 3 PIECE DESK SET AND THEN RE-ARRANGED THE LITCHEN & DINNING ROOM. LOOKS A LOT LESS CLUTTEED. NOW I'VE GOT TO SORT, OUT AWAY & PITCH.

It is a beautiful sunny day. I hope the bad storms are gone for a while. We celebrated our anniversary yesterday by doing a major patch job on our sidewalk. It looks o.k. I don't know what today's jobs will be, but I think we may try to remove a couple of badly overgrown boxwoods .

emoticon GOOD MORNING! (CAPS FOR VI)

OUR HOT WEATHER BROKE LAST NIGHT SO WE SHUT OFF THE AC & OPENED ALL WINDOWS & DOORS. IT'S 60 THIS MORNING & SUPPOSED TO GET TO 80 WITH A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN. YESTERDAY WE GOT THE ENTIRE VEGETABLE GARDEN WEEDED & DH REPLANTED SOME THINGS. I TIES UP THE PEPPER PLANTS. I GOT A FLOWER BED ALMOST CLEARED OFF. DH HAD SPRAYED IT AS IT WAS FULL OF ROSE-of-SHARON SPROUTS. I PLAN ON ROLLING THE 4-5 FOOT LOGS, FROM THE FALLEN PINE TREE, OVER TO THIS SPOT & MAKING A RAISED BED THERE. DON'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT TO PLANT THERE BUT THOUGHT IT'D USE THE LOGS & BE NEAT ALSO.

emoticon HAVE A EYE DOCTORS APPT LATER THIS MORNING. BOTH MY EYES ARE GETTING THAT YELLOW STUFF IN THE TEAR DUCTS. I'M THINKING THAT IT MIGHT BE BECAUSE I'VE BEEN OUTSIDE EVERYDAY & IT'S THE MOLD & SO FORTH. LEG WAS SWELLED THIS MORNING DOWN INTO MY FOOT. STILL HURTS TO WALK ON BUT THE PAIN DOWN TO JUST BEHIND MY KNEE, ON THE CALF OF THE LEG. ALEIVE HELPS A LOT.

emoticon OKAN, WHAT DOES YOUR DAUGHTER MAKE? I LOVE FARMERS MARKETS. THEY HAVE A VERY OLD ONE IN ST. LOUIS CCALLED SOULARD. PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD SEEM TO BE THERE. IT'S A BIG, LOUD FRIENDLY PLACE. AND IT'S CLEAN!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD AND SAFE DAY! emoticon

emoticon WOW! YOU DO KEEP BUSY!

DIDN'T DO A THING YESTERDAY EXCEPT QUILT ON BEN'S (DGS) QUILT. TRIED TO REST MY LEG. THINK I DID TOO MUCH THURSDAY & IT REALLY SWELLED UP FRIDAY. PULLED THE ENTIRE BACK MUSCLE OF IT WHEN I STEPPED BACK, HIT SOMETHING & JERKED. WAS HOPING IT WAS GETTING BETTER AS IT'S BEEN 2 WEEKS NOW. emoticon

emoticon IT STORMED YESTERDAY MORNING THEN WENT HUMID. DURING THE NIGHT WE HAS THE ENTIRE SHOW, THUNDER, LIGHTENING, HEAVY RAIN & HIGH WINDS. SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS INTO MONDAY. THE LIMB LEFT FROM A PREVIOUS STORM, BROKE OFF YESTERDAY, GOING INTO THE NEIGHBORS BACK YARD. HAVE TO GET THEM AS THEY HAVE A UNFRIENDLY ROTTWELDER.

emoticon GOT STARTED ON THE LAST FLOWER BED, WEEDING, BUT THE HUMITIY GOT TOO HIGH. NOW THAT IT'S RAINING, IT OUGHT TO MAKE CLEANING IT OFF EASIER. HAVE TO MOVE SOME THINGS & THEN FINISH THE MULCHING . GOT DH A 10 GAL SPRAYER WITH A 15 FT HOSE & IT MAKES WEED SPRAYING A LOT EASIER! INTEND TO TAKE JULY/SUGUST & GET OUR CRAFT ROOM STRAIGHTENED OUT. WANT TO GO INTO WINTER FINISHED WITH THE HARD WORK!

IMREITE ~
I hear your anguish in your written words.

Measure twice, cut once is what they say, when remodeling, building or anything that requires precise measurements and cutting.

I once decided to improve a bare basement. One wee problem my helper ended up in jail for what, I never found out. One of my male cousins, came to help. He would say "Are we using regular measurements or metric? I asked which do you prefer? We were so confused cut alot, wasted enough to do whole house, with all the mistakes but we finally got the ceiling and walls done!

planted some lettuce on Saturday in to old bathtub. Today I will be planting wildflowers on the dirt mound. Until we can get the planters in the yard the mound will have to stay, so make it look nice with wildflowers. All in all the yard is looking better...have a long way to go. Getting it all together when money and time allows.

Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day....we will be having a BBQ tonight then a sit in the hot tub.

WE PLAN ON WORKING IN THE YARD WHILE IT ISN'T RAINING. WE HAVE TO FINISH TAKING DOWN A PECAN TREE THE LAST STORM DAMAGED & CLEAN THAT MESS UP. THEN FINISH THE RASPBERRY SECTION. HAVE TO PUT UP THE WWIRE, MAKE THE BEDS & TRANSPLANT THE BERRIES. I'D PUT THEM NEXT TO THE BLACKBERRIES & NOW I'M TOLD THAT'S A NO-NO. DH WANTS TO SOW THE REST OF THE SEEDS INCLUDING THE WHITE CLOVER SEEDS. I GUESS I'LL MOW WHILE HE DOES THAT. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO RAIN (OR RAIN MUCH) FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. DH DOESN'T LIKE GOING ANYWHERE ON HOLIDAYS BECAUSE OF THE TRAFFIC.

GOLDDUSTTWIN ~ Good luck with your planting in that heat! What fruit trees are you planting in your orchard?

Got carried away at the garden nursery. Have 4 petunias plantlets and 6 allysum plantlets yet to plant, ran out of soil. Don't feel like buying more soil. Think I'll donate the plants to the community garden.

Hi Everyone, now it's my turn to go MIA! I dont plan to be around here much...doing pruning of dead wood in my bushes...over 12 feet high...things got away from me while I recouped from surgeries these past 3 years and I am trying to play catch up before I see the surgeon in July...need to get veggi garden in and my new dwarf fruit trees plus we have plans to renovate the bathroom so what time I have will be spent working outdoorss as much as possible...Just spend 3 hours on my dogwood thats just cutting and pulling still have to take care of the debris. Laundry all on clothes line, all my veggies in pots watered and I am tired but still have to do banking, bookkeeping and filing before I start dinner...So now you know why you wont be seing me. until I get caught up I just have to use all the time I have between now and July to get things completed.

Have a heavy workload lined up for the Holiday weekend. We are having 14 cubic Yards of Mulch delivered on Friday for distribution around the yard. Whew! is that going to be a lot of work! At least after this the outside projects are simple: planting some flowers, reparing/painting the shed, restaining the deck.

Got the garden planted a couple of weekends ago. Took a Friday off to do it (had to fit it in between rain storms). Still waiting to put in my Tomato and Pepper plants - rain again. Hoping to get them in this weekend also. We'll see. May not feel like working in the garden after moving that much mulch. It is supposed to be decent this weekend, but at this point it doesn't matter. If it rains, I get wet. The mulch is coming and it has to be distributed!

It rained hard last night. Glad I pulled all my planters under shelter, or they would have been drowning this morning. Cloudy this morning but the wet streets are slowly drying out. Moved all my planters back out of sheltered area.

FINALLY finished tilling today. If the weather holds, I may put in cucumber seeds and squash. But I'm working all day Sunday, so I don't have much down time this weekend.

Happy Friday the 13th

Today have a few errands to do. Firstly, change and replenish greeting card stock at a private liquor store. Pick a few groceries, put them away. Then gotta get the deck glass panels on both decks washed and finally sit down to read a book I started reading a couple days ago.

emoticon WE TRIED GETTING A DUMP TRUCK FULL OF DIRT BUT IT HAD A LOT OF WEED SEED IN IT SO SWITCHED TO THE BAG TYPE. IT'S A LOT EASIER TO HANDLE & IS QUICKER, I THINK. ONE OF THE HOME NURSES TALKED US INTO USING THE BAGGED MULCH FOR THE SAME REASON. I'D TRIED THE TOWN MULCH (FREE) BUT IT HAD A LOT OF TRASH STUFF IN IT. WE JUST LACK THE SIDE & WILL HAVE ALL THE MULCHING FINISHED FOR THE YEAR. I'M SURE THE NEW SPRAYER WILL HELP. THIS IS MY EXERCISE! emoticon emoticon

emoticon WOKE UP AT 4:30 SO JUST GOT UP. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT'S RAINING NOW. YESTERDAY I WEEDED THE TWO BEDS BY THE DEN & UTILITY ROOM WINDOWS WHILE DH SPRAYED THE GRAVEL PATHS & DRIVE WAY. THEN, WHILE HE TILLED THE GARDEN, I CLEANED OUT HIS CAMP FIRE PIT & WEEDED THE LARGE FLOWER BED OUTSIDE THE GARDEN. IT WAS REALLY A NICE DAY WITH A LIGHT WIND. TOWARDS EVENING THE SKY GOT DARK & THE WIND PICKED UP & WE HAD RAIN. IT'S ALSO SUPPOSED TO RAIN SOME TODAY BUT NOT TOMORROW. I'D BE HAPPY IF IT DIDN'T RAIN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WE HAVE TO GET MORE MULCH. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BAG MULCH WAS EASIER & FASTER SO WE TRIED IT. IT REALLY IS. SO FAR, WE'VE PUT DOWN 50 BAGS OF IT. STILL HAVE TO DO THE SIDE & WE'LL HAVE EVERYTHING MULCHED. THEN WE'LL HAVE TO RE-GRAVEL THE PATHS & MAYBE, MAKE A NEW PATH WHERE IT'S MUDDY. BUT IT'S REALLY GOOD TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT & DO SOMETHING YOURSELF.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD & SAFE DAY! emoticon

TERRI,
A TORNADO HIT ST. LOUIS AIR PORT LAST NIGHT. DID LOTS OF DAMAGE. WE HAD STRONG WINDS, HEAVY RAIN & HAIL HERE AT THE HOUSE. A LOT OF THE ONES WHO HAD THEIR GARDENS OUT ARE NOW COMPLAING OF THINGS DYING FROM TOO MUCH RAIN OR THE WIND/HAIL. WE HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO TILL THE GARDEN YET. IT'S STILL RAINING & WILL WELL INTO NEXT WEEK. EVERYTHIGS SOAKED & WE'RE BEGINNING TO GET FLOODS. THE MIISSISSIPPI RIVER IS SUPPOSED TO CREST 6 FEET OVER THE FLOOD GATE AT ST. LOUIS TODAY & THAT WAS YESTERDAY MORNINGS NEWS SO IT'LL BE MORE TODAY.. WE'RE ON A RIDGE SO DON'T HAVE TO WORYY ABOUT THE FLOODS EXCEPT WHEN THEY CLOSE SOME ROADS. STILL HAVE PLANTS SITTING ALL OVER THE DINNING ROOM TABLE. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE WINDS BEING THIS HIGH BEFORE.

I GO TO THE DOCTOR NEXT WEDNESDAY FOR THE LAST (?) CHECK UP ON MY EYE. THEN ON THE 5 TH FOR THE LAST (?) CHECK UP FROM THE SURGERY ON 02/16. IT'S ALMOST HEALED ON THE OUT SIDE. I JUST HOPE IT HEALS FROM THE INSIDE FIRST. I GO ON 05/17 FOR THE LEFT EYE & THEN I PRAY THAT'S ALL FOR A LONG TIME! BUT, RIGHT NOW, I'M FEELING ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL & AM PLANNING SOME THINGS TO DO--WEATHER PERMITTING!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD & SAFE WEEK END! emoticon

EYE SURGERY WENT WELL. WILL HAVE THE NEXT ONE ON 05/17. HAD A 1 1/2 HOUR WAIT DUE TO A EARLIER PATIENT HAVING TROUBLE. WHILE WE WERE WAITING SOME ONE CAME IN & SAID THERE WERE SEVERE TORNADO WARNINGS & BAD STORM WARNINGS ALL OVER THE PLACE. WE ONLY GOT SOME HIGH WINDS & VERY LITTLE RAIN, THANK GOODNESS. AND THAT WASN'T UNTIL LATER IN THE EVENING. IT REALLY COOLED OFF FAST. WENT TO THE DR. FOR A FOLLOW UP & THE EYE PRESURE WAS UP SO HAD TO HAVE SOME SORT OF EYE DROP PUT IN & HAD TO TAKE A BIG ORANGE PILL. LIKE THE COLOR OF THE PILL BUT IT HAD TO BE THE BIGGEST PILL I'VE EVER TAKEN. NOW I'M SLEEPY.

JUST TIRED. I THINK IT'S ALL THE MEDS THEY'VE GIVEN ME.

I GOT THE PUMP TAKEN OFF LAST MONDAY. SO FAR, THE HEALING IS GOING BETTER THAN THEY THOUGHT. TODAY I GO IN FOR EYE SURGERY AND WE'RE HAVING THUNDER STORM S RIGHT NOW WITH A TORNADO WARNING & HAIL EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON. I'M HOPING THAT WE GET BACK HOME BEFORE IT REALLY HIST.

WENT TO LOWES YESTERDAY & GOT 30 BAGS OF MULCH. IT WAS ALO T CHEAPER THAN THE FIRST TIME WE GOT IT. THEY ALSO HAD SOME PLANTS ON SALE SO I GOT 5 DIFFERENT COLORS OF COLUMBINES, O FERNS 9GROUND), & SOME PLANTS TO PUT IN CONTAINERS. NOW IF WE COULD ONLY HAVE ABOUT A WEEKS WORTH OF NICE WEATHER! emoticon

emoticon WENT TO THE DOCTOR & I HAVE TO KEEP THE PUMP FOR ANOTHER MONTH. I SEEM TO BE HEALING ON THE OUTSIDE FASTER THAN ON THE INSIDE. IF THE OUTSIDE HEALS BEFORE THE INSIDE I COULD GET AN INFECTION. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS HE SAYS I CAN DO PRETTY MUCH AS I WANT. HE SAID IT IN FRONT OF DH TOO. SO YESTERDAY I SPENT OUT IN THE YARD. WE GOT ABOUT 2/3 OF THE FRONT WEEDED & MULCHED. THEN DH WENT TO THE BACK PATIO & PUT UP 3 BIRD HOUSE POSTS FOR ME WHILE I WEEDED. I REALLY SLEPT WELL LAST NIGHT -- NO DREAMS. WE GOT 2 BIRD HOUSES THIS GUY MAKES ( USES A LICENCE PLATE FOR THE ROOF & A SMALL SPOON FOR THE LANDING POST) FOR THE HOME NURSE. SHE REALLY LIKED THEM. SHE'S REALLY NICE WITHOUT BEING THAT SICKY, SWEET NICE THAT YOU KNOW IS FALSE.

WE GOT 2 PLUM & 2 PEACH TREES TO PLANT -- HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK END. IF IT DOESN'T STORM.

BARB, MY CATS NEVER GO OUT SIDE. THERE'S TOO MANY BIG DOGS RUNNING FREE THAT MAKE A PRACTICE OF KILLING THEM. I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I EVEN SAW A CAT OUTSIDE.. BESIDES WE'VE WORKED TOO HARD PLANTING THINGS & FIXING UP BIRD FEEDERS TO ENCURAGE CATS COMING IN THE YARD.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD & SAFE DAY! emoticon

THE SNOW STORM WENT AROUND US BUT THERE'S A BIG THUNDERSTORM HEADED OUR WAY. IT'S VERY WINDY, GREY & DREARY OUT SIDE.

BARB, THAT SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT EXCEPT YOU NEED TO ADD 3 CATS THAT TEND TO FOLLOW ME. THEY LIKE TO KEEP ME COMPANY & ATTACK THE THREAD.

GOLDY, THE PLANTS SOUND GREAT. I HAVE A FEW PEONIES. HAVE ABOUT GIVEN UP ON ROSES. I THINK I'M GOING TO THE MORE PLANT ME & LEAVE ME ALONE TYPE PLANTS THIS YEAR. emoticon

WE GOT 5 INCHES OF SNOW OVERNIGHT. TODAYS IT'S SUPPOSED TO GET UP INTO THE 40S & RAIN. NEXT 2-3 DAYS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME. REALLY A MESS.

LAST FRIDAY THE HOME CARE NURSE PUT ME ON THE PUMP. IT'S REALLY QUITE A HENDERANCE AS YOU HAVE TO CARRY THE PUMP THINGS LIKE A SHOULDER BAG & PLUG IT INTO THE ELECTRIC AT NIGHT. I'V ALMOST FORGOTTEN TO PICK IT UP WHEN I GET UP TO MOVE SOME WHERE. I'M SURE THAT WOULDN'T FEEL GOOD ON THE PART ATTACHES TO MY SURGERY SPOT. I'M BEING TOLD THAT THIS WILL SPEED HEALING ABOUT 75 %. I SURE HOPE SO. ABOUT ALL I'M DOING IS WORKING ON BEN'S QUILT & READING. AND SLEEPING. REALLY BORING, YOU KNOW? emoticon

Glad to have you back COPPER!

It looks like the fog might burn off today. The rain has stopped and at least dh could go out to the woodpile and replenish our back porch supply without getting drenched.

Still working on this Spanish--the verb tenses are kicking my butt! It's the first time I've struggled with it so far. I just need to keep working with it and hearing it until it sounds natural, I guess~

So far, so good. Mom has gone with DD and her family for a full day of 4:H with the kids. Today is her birthday, but there's a nasty flu going through the family, so we've decided not to throw a party. She'll just visit with the ones who aren't contagious!

Dad is fine, but I think he'll be lonely before long. He is still healthy and quite fit for 76 and stepmom was the opposite. She seldom ventured out of her chair in front of the TV, so Dad had the dilemma of wanting to take care of his wife, but seeing that she wouldn't do anything to help herself and it was frustrating for him.

He has been busy with all of his projects and galavanting around--but the empty house will hit him soon, I think. He still meets for coffee with old friends several times a week and is active with his gun club.

I've been working on getting my ironing pile...er...MOUNTAIN under control, and I just did the last piece! My ironing board is upstairs, so I've been ironing a shirt and taking it downstairs to hang it up, then coming back upstairs. I should've worn my pedometer! Now on to the mending~

HI Terri. Sorry you had to go to a funeral. I've found as I get older, those funerals (and weddings, of course) are the times all the family gets together. I hope you had a nice 'wake!' And I hope your dad is okay.
We've gone into the 'deep freeze' again here, so spring is put off for a bit. I hope this is the last gasp of winter. I know many of you have had it much worse!
Looking forward to getting the garden ready, as many of us are.
Keep the faith!

That's great Barb! I'll go and check it out when I have a chance!

We're at my mother's right now. Had to come down for my step-mother's funeral tomorrow. Funerals are always a sad way to have a family reunion, but I AM looking forward to seeing everyone. My brother is here from WA and we'll get together here at Mom's for dinner and visits tonight.

I brought 3 of my grands with me to stay w/Mom for a few days, since they're out of school for Pres. week. One of the benefits of having your kids while you're young is that you can enjoy your great-grands! My mom was 15 when I was born and I had my first at 19. My oldest grands are 13. I was just thinking on our way here that my great-grandparents were much older. Although I knew them, it would've been out of the question to go and stay with them like these kids are.

The other benefit is that I'm young enough to enjoy my empty nest! Woo Hoo!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's day... it was a 'lazy' day for me, spent with my loved one. Perfect.
CopperPenny, my website is up, though I'll be modifying it as I add product. Already made two sales, which was a shock! If you go to my homepage, the web address is listed on the right column under 'my website' or some such heading. I don't want to break the rules here and have admin call it an 'advertisement.' But thanks for asking!

Hi all. It sure feels like spring a lot of places; just waiting for the east coast to catch up! Our agricultural area is worried about budding fruit, it is so warm. Way too early, and threats of late night freezes later that may damage the crops.
I've been doing my woodworking and am now setting up a website to feature my crafts, mostly turned items. This good weather is helping a lot in terms of production! I have to make time for some yard work clean up today, though, which takes me away from the lathe.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Wow, flowers budding out! It's warm here, too, but we're hoping that doesn't happen yet. Surely more cold to come.

GOOD MORNING,

Nice sunny and warm again. I popped out the door this morning and finally trimmed the dead flowers off my chrysanthemums. They have new flowers. Spring and fall blooms wonderful. emoticon
Checked on my raised garden and the thyme, cinnamon, and strawberrys survived the freeze. Planning my free area now. emoticon

Live for today, yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is not a promise.

Tomorrow in Japan is known as Setsubun which is the day before the Japanese first day of spring. When I was a child I had a pen pal in Kyoto, Japan and she told me that they throw soy beans to the four winds to chase out the evil spirits that have come to live in the home during the winter. People throw roasted soy beans and shout "oni wa so to" (get out demons) and "fu ku wa uchi" (come in happiness.) I remember this because tomorrow is my birthday.
In many parts of Asia, the first day of Spring is celebrated on February 4th, because it is the midpoint between the vernal equinox and the winter solstice.

Hi all- CopperPenny, don't be afraid of eye surgeries. I've been with my mother, now 90, through several for both cataracts and glaucoma, and the things doctors are doing nowadays for eyes is just amazing. She is going to have another laser treatment for glaucoma in the doctor's office the end of February. Everything they do for her helps immensely. Things have changed a Lot over the years concerning eye surgery. Don't fear it at all!

In WA state we've had an unusually warm mid-winter, and I've been able to get into my garage shop to do some woodworking/woodturning. I'm lovin' it! Planning on setting up an Etsy crafts website within a month or so, to see how that goes. I'm working on building up stock to have on hand for it, and having fun doint it.

In a very short time now, we'll all be able to Dig in the Ground! For those of you on the east coast, keep your chin up. Spring will get here!

emoticon GOOD MORNING! (CAPS FOR VI)

SO FAR, HERE IN UNION, MISSOURI, WE HAVE 5 INCHES OF SNOW & IT'S STILL COMING DOWN. VERY BEAUTIFUL. FROM OUR KITCHEN WINDOW, IN WINTER, YOU CAN SEE A BIT OF INTERSTATE 44 AND THE TRAFFIC IS REALLY SLOW. DH TELLS ME THAT WE DON'T NEED TO GET OUT FOR ANYTHING. DO HAVE TO PUT MORE FEED IN THE BIRD FEEDERS. THEY'RE REALLY GOING THRU IT.

emoticon THE BEST WORMS WE HAD WERE UNDER THE RABBIT HUTCHES. WE'VE GOTTEN DOWN TO JUST CHICKENS, DUCKS & GEESE NOW. AT ONE TIME WE HAD A BIT OF EVERYTHING BUT THEY ALL SEEMED TO TURN INTO PETS OVER TIME. AND THE COST OF FEED HAS REALLY WENT UP.
SO WE WENT INTO GROWING MORE VEGETABLES. BUT I DO HAVE A COMPOST PILE I PUT THE STUFF FROM THE KITCHEN IN. WE ALSO CLEANED OUT THE CHICKEN HOUSE & PUT THAT INTO IT. I PUT A WHITE PIECE OF CARPET DOWN FOR A WALKWAY BY THE IRIS BED. WE HAVE GRAVEL WALKS & IT JUST BLENDS IN. I PICKED IT UP & THERE WERE SERVERAL NIGHT CRAWLERS UNDER IT. IN THE SUMMER YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP IT DAMP.

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD AND SAFE DAY! emoticon

I'd love to hear how the worms turn out! I'm trying a compost bin right now - been putting scraps and leaves and things in it so hopefully they will break down on their own. It will probably take a bit longer than your worms, though.

Hi all. Copper Penny, I sure wish you luck with your dr.s appt. Having a constant head ache of any kind can be so draining.
One spot, all this talk of raised beds and petunias and worms makes me want to get started too! We've had a spate of beautiful 35 - 40 weather and the ground is not frozen for now, but I know better. Have done a bit of the clean-up that was not completed last fall, pulling dead plants out and turning soil. We're going to get some worms from a friend this year, as we garden in a dirt-filled cement pool and never have enough. Sure feels like spring with all this talk! I hope for some of you, somewhere, it will be garden time soon!

I like the wave petunias for covering up an ugly spot, but prefer the fragrant ones for baskets. They just smell so sweet! I like to mix flowers in with my vegetables too.

We're making dirt with our worm bins. We use the old rubbermaid bins that get holes or cracks in them and put all our veggies scraps, eggshells, coffee grounds/filters, etc in for the worms to eat. They make the BEST dirt in the world and takes care of some otherwise nasty garbage.

emoticon GOOD MORNING! (CAPS FOR VI)

ONESPOT, WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN MORE THIS YEAR. I WANT TO PUT SOME SQUASH OUT IN THE YARD, JUST LIKE A FLOWER BED. THE IDEA I HAVE IS TO DIG A HOLE TO PLANT THEM & THEN PUT DOWN SOME NEWSPAPER AROUND IT, IN A 2 YARD CIRCLE, TO KEEP THE WEEDS DOWN. THEN I PLAN ON MIXING SOME GREEN BEANS AROUND ONE SECTION OF THE FRONT FENCE THEN MULCH THE NEWSPAPER. I'VE READ WHERE EVERYTHING IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOING UP, AGAIN, THIS YEAR SO I WANT TO PUT UP AS MUCH AS I CAN.

TERRI, DH DOESN'T LIKE PETUNIAS SO I'M THINKING OF PUTTING IN A GARLIC BED WITH IT. THEN PLANTING SOME HOT PEPPERS WHERE THE GARLIC BED USED TO BE. WE'VE GOT TO GET SOME MORE DIRT FOR THE PLANTERS WE MADE OUT OF THE EXTRA PLASTIC TRASH BENS.

WE'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FREEZING RAIN & SNOW TODAY & THEN GET INTO THE 40S LATER ON.

I GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH ANOTHER EYE DOCTOR FOR NEXT TUESDAY. SO FAR I'VE HAD 3 OTHER PEOPLE SAY HE'S GREAT. I SURE HOPE SO! emoticon

we are making the sides of the raised beds higher so we can have a deeper root area

I also want to put in more pepper plants this year and Kale

I hope to start them in the garage so they should be good size by late April to plant

I also want to build a sturdy cold frame for next winter.

COPPER, YOU COULD USE IT TO PLANT FLOWERS IN. IT MIGHT LOOK GOOD WITH SOME OF THOSE WAVE PETUNIAS.

IT'S RAINING AGAIN AND DH IS NOT HOME YET FROM HIS LAST NIGHT SHIFT FOR THE SEASON (I THINK). IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE WE'RE GOING TO MAKE IT TO CHURCH THIS MORNING, BUT THEN HE'S BEEN UP ALL NIGHT, SO HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STAY AWAKE ANYWAY.

emoticon GOOD MORNING! (CAPS FOR VI)

I'M CUTTING BACK ON THE PAIN PILLS. THE MRI SHOWED A NORMAL BRAIN & THE DR SAID I DIDN'T NEED TO SEE HIM AGAIN. emoticon NOTHING ABOUT WHY I'M HAVING PAIN IN THE EYE OR WHY THE LID IS CLOSING. SOME PEOPLE AT THE AUCTION GAVE ME THE NAME/NUMBER OF AN EYE DOCTOR SPECIALIST THAT THEY HAD USED & LIKED SO I'LL CALL HIM ON MONDAY OR TUESDAY IF THEY'RE CLOSED BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAY.

emoticon MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER CALLED ABOUT HER 22 YR OLDS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. I DON'T KNOW WHY SHE THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE IT. HAD DH DRAG SLL THE STUFF OUT OF THE TOP SHELF SO I COULD GO THRU IT TO SEE IF I HAD IT. TALK ABOUT GOING DOWN MEMORY ROAD! ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1960. I'M GOING TO BURN A LOT OF IT. OLD BANK STUFF & THAT SORT OF THING. I FOUND THE PAPER WORK ON SOME LADN MY EX & I HAD BOUGHT FROM HIS FATHER. IT WENT ALL THE WAY BACK TO WHEN LINCOLN WAS PRESIDENT. THEN I FOUND SOME MONEY THE KIDS HAD GOTTEN FROM THEIR G=GRANDPARENTS. EVEN SOME OLD LOVE LETTERS FROM SOME OLD BOY FRIENDS. YEAH, I HAVE A LOT TO BURN! HADN'T PLANNED ON THIS BUT CAN'T DO MUCH WITH MY HAND ANY WAY.

HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO WITH THE OLD STRAWBERRY BED. IT'S THE ROUND ONE WITH 3 LEVELS & A SELF WATERER YOU CAN GET FROM THE SEED CATALOG PLACE. WE'RE BUILING A BIGGER STRAWBERRY BED. I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT BUT I'N NOT SURE WHAT TO USE IT FOR.

THEY HAD SAID THAT WE'D HAVE TEMPS AROUND 36 FOR A FEW DAYS & NOW THEY'RE SAYING THAT A COLD RFRONT IS COMMING IN & THE TEMPS START FALLING LATER ON THIS MORNING. I'M READY FOR SPRING!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD AND SAFE DAY! emoticon
