DOGSTARDADDY It is good for your girls and for the dogs to have each other as special companions.

I have always had dogs since I was a kid growing up. I can't see myself being without a dog, as I age, I will probably ignore the condo rules and get another dog. Guess I'll be looking for a home with a basement suite. The tenant will have cheaper rent for doing yard work and shovelling snow in winter. emoticon

We have Mortlock, the rescued greyhound and Moxie, the Dobe/Shepherd mix. Mort is about to turn 4, and Moxie is 2. Moxie still is a barker with some.. fear issues. I'm not sure what happened to her before we got her, but we've been working with a trainer who specializes in search and rescue dogs, and she's come a long way. Mort is a VERY social grey, which is pretty rare. Both dogs have pictures posted on my Spark page.

We are pretty lucky with their care. Prettysundress was a vet tech for years, so she takes care of the small stuff as injuries or issues pop up. Neither dog has long hair, so grooming isn't too difficult. We take them outside and hose them down every other month or so. I don't think Moxie would do well with a groomer. All in all, both dogs are great at what they do. Moxie keeps the kids safe, barking at anyone under the age of 16 the second they step foot on our property. Mortlock lets Red Tornado dress him up in her nightgowns and princess crowns, without a word of complaint.

We're Labrador retriever people at our house. We have a yellow lab named Bailey who is a senior citizen, although the vet isn't sure how old she really is. She was adopted from Lab rescue 10 years ago, so we think she is about 12 years old. We were looking for a second dog at the time and decided to adopt a dog that was as old as Duncan, a black lab we got when he was 10 weeks old. Duncan passed on back in March at the age of 13 years--he had a stroke and was never able to recover.

We have another Lab/Shepherd mix that we adopted about a week ago--his name is Memphis. He is 4 years old and was surrendered to a shelter by his previous owner who couldn't care for him any longer. Honestly, I don't see any Shepherd in him. We're still getting to know him, but were thrilled to see that he is really a sweet boy.

I'm with Karla, I too have Nortons 360 and it can run a scan while you are on the web as well as a pile of other protective programs. Be aware that there is a scam website that looks like a Microsoft site that tells you that you have multiple virus attacks on your computer, it is NOT Microsoft and it is a nuisance. My Nortons 360 will stop any attempts at intrusion from these sites.

BTW it's Spark that won't let you type Shi tzu the way most of us would, it's easy to get around either type it the way I did above or substitute a ! for the i.

My Bruno is supposed to have some Shi tzu in him as well, I suppose if I look hard enough I could see a bit, but there is an awful lot of Lhasa Apso there, Shi tzus and relative dogs like that are such cuties.

Can you run a scan with your virus shield program? We use Norton & it can run a scan, find it, fix it and let me move along with my day. But it won't let me go to a couple of certain websites with names that could sound like profanity either LoL.

I bet your Mitzie is cute. I can picture what kind of dog it is. My mom had a half Shizu alf poodle. He was a doll!

Mitzi my dog is a cross breed between a Pomeranian & a [sorry but the breed is classed as profanity, won't let me put in the breed of dog.] ~ though her build is tiny like a Pomeranian. Her stance is 12 inches high but she has a wee bit longer body.
She doesn't shed. Trying again breed of dog shizu, see if it will work now with a the missing letter T.

Now I am getting a message coming up saying microsoft has changed the scripting of this message. How nuts is this? I am out of here till that darn message disappears? This message has been popping up for the last 3 days and I have go off line run my spyware to get rid of it but it only lasts for a couple messages and then it is back again!

I love all animals and have had just about all of them as well. Most of mine have passed on through old age, my Angora goat I had to put to sleep last year because of severe arthritis she was 12 (old for a goat), my chickens as well died of old age and over the years have had goats, cows, horses et al but now have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 cockatoo and 1 lovebird, the latter is 16 years old so is stepping into the geriatric area.

It looks like I am not alone as a Border Collie mom. Well BC mix but I have no idea what she's mixed with. I rescued her from the animal shelter and she's great! It's kind of a silly story actually. 5 1/2 years ago when my last child announced he was moving out to take a job in Calif (we live in Wa State) I decided I couldn't do the empty nesting thing so I kind of jokingly said I was going to replace him with a dog (like that would make my son stay LoL). My son was the first to offer to go with me to start looking for his replacement. I started looking up dogs and their different traits and figured I needed to have a smart one so that's why the border collie. She is very smart, so smart that I think I'm the pet now LoL. (I give her whatever she wants). Anyway My son's name is Luke and since she is his replacement, but a girl I named her Luka. She's adorable. I too take her to the groomer but I also only do the bath/nail trim thing for like $20 and it's great. I should post a pic of her huh? I do have a pic of our last dog (in quilt form) on my spark page. That one was DH's dog & the quilt is for him. It's cute, check it out.

I have two dogs Phoenix a German Shepherd from Orange County Animal Shelter in Orlando and Halo a newly adopted Chow, Shepherd, Lab mix from the SPCA. I also have two cats I found as strays Tempest & Misty and my 9yr cat Siren just passed away on May 31st from a terrible ailment called vestibular disease. Breaks my heart. I found her as a 4wk old kitten trapped in the bottom of the sewer. I called the SPCA, helped get her out and went to foster her when she was old enough to release for adoption. I love most animals.

Check out my SparkPage pics of them.

Halo's not up yet she was adopted before Siren became ill, haven't gotten around to it yet.

All pet owners are welcomed!

I am the only one in the condo with a dog. Shortly after all suites were sold, a counsel was formed, a majority vote was passed, no dogs allowed. One can have two cats and or a bird.

Mitzi and I were among the first to live in the building, a grandfather clause was set up for Mitzi, when she passes on, I will not be able to get another dog. I do love most animals and have thought of donating time to the animal shelter or a veterinarian that needs someone to walk dogs. I have thought if death happens to Mitzi before me, I would feel lost but by that time, it would be unfair to get a new pet, then die, leaving the burden to my family would be unfair.

are cats allowed?!? LOL !
I have a blue point Siamese cat named Tazman , taz for short. Because when he was a kitten he would get into the darnedest things and tear around the house like a Tasmanian devil! He is VERY smart , for his own good! I swear he things he is a dog! He listens and follows direction. When he gets outside he is leashed trained. He does not run away when he is off leash. He can open the basement door, so I had to put a latch up higher to keep it closed.

He's a pretty cat, and He keeps me company.

One of my dogs is a Lhasa Apso, so there is an abundance of hair, I picked up a good pair of Oster shears on ebay so I could trim him. I don't need to show him so it doesn't have to be the most perfect of clipping. One of the other dogs is a Yorkie/Mini Schnauzer cross and has long hair around the mouth and always dribbles water all over the place after a drink so she gets a clip as well. The Jack Russell sheds the most hair of the three and I've been thinking of a full clip for her. I used to show dairy goats so I'm pretty good with the clippers, mind you it's been a while since I had to clip big animals. Professionals do charge like a wounded bull for some things, but if you don't have the time or the place to do it yourself it's probably worth it in the end....if you have the money

i discovered a previously unknown secret. the dog groomer charges $60+ for a full groom, but, for just a bath, ear clean, nail trim they only charge $12 for my long hair border collie and $9 for the other dog who has a lab type short coat.
i get the long haired boy done every month, he's towel dried when i pick him, still damp, but, then when he's dry i brush him out and he looks awesome.
the short coat will only be done if extremely dirty or once a year or so, so her nails get done.
i just hate washing the dogs at home. it makes such a mess and i don't have time for that, but, i sure don't want to pay $60 some bucks a pop either.
but, those two (and the cat) shed so much, i think i should just shave them down!!! emoticon

A place to share all the delights and woes of your pets. How about sharing you pets name and why or how your pet/s became apart of your family?

I'll start by saying I was in shock, the groomer I had for the last 9 years sold their Pet Salon but the new owners kept the original name. The place was messy but I had booked an appointment. Mitzi my dog really needed a good fur trim and pedicure. The cost had risen from $45.00 to $60.00 She look good when I first picked her up. When her fur began to grow out, it was so unevenly cut I was embarrassed to take her anywhere.

At those prices decided to go back to trimming her myself. I bought some new dog clippers and new scissors. It takes quite a long time as I let her have play time in between cleaning up the fur on the floor and letting the trimmer cool down. She gets a snack for being a good girl. I started trimming her when she was a puppy so she is used to me doing it.

Do you take your dog to groomers?
