Last night Mitchell finish the small stone wall, rack some straw which was covering newly planted grass..has to replant due to the fact his dad brought in some soil and put it in the area that the newly planted grass seeds were.he also got some lavender plants for the side of the building too..still have to plant two flower bushes? my bench spot and it put there !
It will get the morning sun and then filtered sun the rest of the day...

Now to get some fun things around it and plants and flowers on it.
I was going to put Jimmy's old sink on it but it is cast iron and way to heavy for this old thing. I will find a different spot for it !

I know! Really experts with ropes and pulley's nothing bigger than that little tractor for removal. Company's in the past have dropped chunks of log from 80' up, leaving my yard look like a mine field. This company was $600 less expensive!

Tree is gone, yard in order, lawn mowed; today I'm going to shape up the honeysuckle that are my privacy fence across the back and fill a couple of holes from the tree dropping and reseed on the lawn. Pleased.

Oh Wow !! What a difference !!!

What a cute idea for your stump...a Gnome House !!! :}

Yesterday, I did an experiment in my kitchen...Where Else ??? :}
I wanted to try and make panko bread crumbs...I've tried it before with my homemade bread and the "crumb" was way to hard after it was dried...
So when I was at the store the other day, I saw one of those cheap long loaves of bread on sale for .99...So I bought it !
I ran it thru the food processor, filled my dehydrator trays and dried it for 3-4 hours.
It made 7 trays worth...
After it was dried, I put it in quart jars...2 of them.
I Love the nice crunchy bits and all for .99 !!!

It will be a big change for the yard. Need some observing time to see how Sugar's garden evolves now. Funny, Xena was most stressed about someone changing things. Two guys did the whole job. I'm sure GGS will find uses for the stump I had left, it's an erosion area and I need it until I replant and it takes hold.

Guys did a great job, stump is behind the tire--which is well planted now but served a generation of grown grandchildren; little did I know or expect the latest blessing! I will have to watch the path of the sun this weekend and find a new shady spot for our swing. Tire stays so no Gnome house, I'll just let that evolve as we go. Smiles.

Sad to lose a big old tree like that, but you don't want it to come down on your house or a neighbor's house. I have a stump in my back yard that I am going to put a door and a roof on so that it looks like a gnome's home--maybe you could do the same with yours.

Tree crew is here to remove a big old tree; glad the threat of rain didn't stop them. Nice cool morning to work if the rain holds off! Center tree here is coming out:

I will miss the shade. One by one over the years I've been losing these giants; they've lived their life. This one is becoming a threat.
Yesterday I added a rug and umbrella to my deck; both to provide some shade that I'm losing and make the deck more inviting. Pleased with both.

If the rain holds off long enough; I'd like to get plants potted for the deck now. Spring is definitly here!

Front flower beds are rebuilt and repaired---now to get the dirt and then the flowers to fill them up---next is to put down the grass seed where the lawn was torn up from the line repairs.

Weeding is on my list for today too. Got Sugar groomed, she looks great! Houseplants are out; scale was getting out of control. Will spray them down today. They had started going downhill fast; these are big patio plants and will recover over the summer. Rain due tomorrow, yard needs it and my list keeps growing. Lists help!

My first task is weeding. I've been on hold because of a recent minor surgery (hand) and haven't been able to get after it. I always wait to weed my flower beds though because I salvage volunteer annuals from the year before or sometimes animal planted. I haven't bought marigolds in 3 years and have more and more every year.

I am always worth my best. My best is good enough for anyone.

What a Beautiful Weekend we had...
I got the strawberry bed strawed, some of the veggie beds cleaned out, grass cut after limbs and branches picked up, and one flower bed weeded...
This week is going to be to busy to do work in the yard.

It's too early to plant yet since Easter was early this year and we still have frost in the forecast, but I pulled out my pots and set them up (around my tradescantia I am protecting) and added soil to plant grape tomatoes, broccoli, basal in a couple of weeks. I have started preparing some of my big flower pots and flower beds too.

A_NEW_CHAPTER!!! OMG... that's a list!!! So just an idea till you get around to all this!!!

If you don't have pets of your own you can spread chili powder on your lawn (cheap & easy) Dogs, cats, and gophers ALL hate it (sold at home depot as gopher repellent)... I use it on my front lawn & garden!!!

You could put up a paintable wallpaper over the old (I'm fond of beadboard) or I would just take down to the studs!!! 1/2" gaps are probably going to cause cracks if you try and mud them :( But don't be scared of mudding. First attempts always take A LOT LONGER but you really can't screw it up... I suggest getting the powder form instead of the premixed though... when it starts to dry it makes you're job exponentially harder!!!

I have a ton of yard debris to clean up, I still have to try and figure out my vegetable garden, and should probably have started seeds inside already. I have a lot of front yard garden cleaning out and mulching to do, plus figuring out what I want to plant out there. I was so late doing anything with it, I threw in a couple mums and called it done! I have shrub trimming, weeding and mulching to do around those, and a lot of organizing and clearing out of things we still have not found a place for since we moved in in July! I have multiple furniture pieces to refinish, and the "woman cave" to be needs to be totally done from the ground up...all it is is boxes and things for the yard sale! We also have finishing to do in our bedroom, those last few ceiling tiles, the baseboards, and we need to make a decision on the flooring and replace that. That is just for starters!

I've got a bunch of things I need to do this summer -- it's not quite spring here yet but I have started to make my list.

I need to learn to install a new laundry tub -- the one in the basement is SO ancient - it's made of concrete! It had a small crack in the bottom when we moved here 10 years ago but the crack is bigger now and it's starting to leak when the washing machine empties after a cycle. It's only a concrete floor underneath so it's not devastating but it's overdue to be fixed. The taps aren't a problem, I've done copper pipes before but the drain is a bit convoluted - I haven't figured out how I'm going to reattach the drain pipes to a taller tub... but I'll figure it out!

Have at least one room that I'd like to paint --

and have four indoor steps that need to be sanded and painted.

Want to paint several of my heat register grates/covers (or whatever you call them) - - I painted one last year just to see what it would look like and it was such an improvement!-- they're 100 years old, big square grates set into the wall so they're not something I can replace.

After the torrential rains of the last couple of days I'm thinking of tearing up part of my patio (it's made of bricks) - - and whoever laid it made it run toward the house instead of away so 4 inches of rain water piles up against the house and steps. I took up about 8 of the worst bricks along the edge a couple of years ago and set them in sand to make them higher but I need to do the whole path near the door -- about 6 ft by 3 ft -- I'm not looking forward to it because the bricks/paving stones are kind of wavy shaped and they only fit one way and it was hard to re-set them and keep them level. But I have to do something, there's nowhere for the water to go except into the wall and we've had enough of that!

Also want to dig up a slope at the front of the house and get rid of the grass and plant some low-growing/creeping flowers so I don't have to mow that area anymore -- it's too steep to mow it safely. I may only get half of it done this year but if i could get the worst of it done it would be better for me - I like cutting the grass but I don't like falling down that little hill! It's like it's magnetic -- at least once a year I fall there.

And want to create a living fence -- I can't afford a real fence (we were given an estimate of $1800! - no way to do it ourselves with several big trees and their roots in the way) but I need a way to keep the dogs in the house behind us out of our yard. The owner doesn't stop them from coming over and using our lawn as their bathroom. Hubby's asked him nicely to keep them on a leash or something, but he hasn't. I figure a nice tight row of raspberry vines would make a great fence. And I like raspberries.

If hubby gets approval to go to a training course I'll have a week to get something done while he's away -- I might take the wallpaper down in one room (either living room or dining room) and see about painting it -- it's really old and unattractive. I've held off because it means I'd have to do some mudding and I've never done that before -- whoever worked on this house 25 years ago was not a contractor -- nothing was done well -- so there's a little bathroom that was added into the corner of the dining room - and they just put the drywall up and covered it with wallpaper and never put any drywall compound or tape over the joints between the pieces of drywall. It's not noticeable because of the pattern of the wallpaper but if I took the wallpaper down the seams would be prominent and they'd have to be filled (like, half an inch wide gaps) and taped and sanded properly. So that would take up a couple of days -- not sure I could get it all done in 5 or 6 days (I don't work as fast as I used to)

There's a couple of jobs out in the garden -- I want to move a few things around but I'm not planting anything this year (other than raspberries!)

And I need to repaint my trellis/arch thing and the pole that holds my birdfeeder needs to be sanded and repainted.

And I should paint the garage door and trim but it's not a high priority.

And I have a little table that I need to finish sanding so I can stain it and bring it in.

Those are the things on my list so far emoticon -- not sure how much I'll actually accomplish but it's good to have a list to work from.

I need to landscape the back yard to get water to drain away from the house (plan to make a dry creek bed / french drain), and build a bonsai bench with a sprinkler system for my bonsais.

I am a person of infinite possibilities and dreams.

Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.

I wanted to start my seeds indoors, but didn't have any of the biodegradable cups. I looked around online and found where you make them using newspaper. They worked out just fine! I now have about 40 little seedlings popping up. I started wax beans, broccoli, kale, spinach, carrots, cantaloupe, yellow pear, roma and cherry tomatoes. I still have to rototill my garden. This weather has been unpredictable lately! They're even calling for snow showers on Tuesday when today it was close to 70 today! In a couple of weeks I will harden off my seedlings and hopefully get them in the ground.. Happy planting all :)

i'm so jealous! Our last frost date is MAY 15 ! I plant all my bulbs deeper so that they come up a little later so the snow doesn't kill then just when they start to bud out

Started cleaning after the winter..weeding abit, but, it's going to rain the next couple of days,,
I can't do my flower bed on the side of the house though...I need to get that side of the house waterproofed (it's probable leaked water from the day this old house was built!)
Seeds are started..

Our garden planting will happen this next week and week after. Our early things are up...potatoes, green peas, onion, lettuce and finally asparagus is showing up.
Things ahead are to weed the iris beds...and that is a BIG chore as one bed is huge other is small but still quite a bit to weed.
Hopefully the "she-shed" project will begin soon. We did cut the 2 trees to begin work. I finished the ceramics so the kiln and all the rest of the ceramic things are going soon and shop will need major cleaning and then yard sale to do ....hopefully soon. Is never ending around out place.

We just finished build a new raised bed and putting up a new grill gazebo. We plan on laying big pavers in another spot in our yard and already started buying the bricks. One more area to lay down landscape fabric in that area and we might go ahead and pave that area with smaller bricks---it is a weird space and thinking the smaller bricks will be the only thing to fit back there---trying to cut back on the amount of weeding we have to do each year. We just got our bathroom tub replaced with a shower so I will be painting that room. We also plan on painting the ceiling and floor in the porch. Then replacing the ceiling in the dining room is also on our list. I want to replace the carpeting in the dining room with new flooring but the ceiling needs to be done first and might cost too much to do the floor this year. Also plan on having the outside spigot repaired with a new one. If I get that done, hope to clean the deck and paint it, too.
