Yes, I will tell him about this site.
Over the years I have been here I have found a lot of help & support.
I'm sure he will find the support & help he needs.
All the guys think I'm a bit strange because I follow a vegan diet so challenging them to anything healthy is kind of hopeless. They are always aksing me if there's any meat in my lunch.
Even after knowing me for a loooong time & knowing how I eat, they still ask, every single day!!
Oh well, i will tell my friend & hope he has great success :)

Jeannie

VERY WELL DONE.

I had a thought that if you get the chance you might challenge some of those men to lose 20 pounds in two months themselves. I'm guessing at least some of them could use weight loss. Or make up another health challenge for them so they can 'prove themselves'!
Use that competitiveness / male agression for a health purpose!

whjy do people act this way. If you look at any one of them there are things they are unlovely about. And how many guys have beer bellys, is that not being over weight. Its like picking on somebody because they wear glasses when you wear them your self

That WAS a wonderful, compassionate thing you did - you never know, you might have just saved him. Thank you for stepping in both with him and the unthinking guys who didn't support him. Bravo!

And the bullying cycle perseveres. At least you were there to throw a monkey wrench in things!! After seeing that kind of thing at school, over and over, I'd probably have dished some back at the guys, even suggested that their children were learning the bullying from them.

(easy for me to say, sitting here in my recliner!!)

They didn't say much. I think they were kind of ashamed. Of course one said, "he'll never lose weight". I'm just glad he's not here today & didn't hear that.
I'll continue cheering him on though!!

I work in a male dominated profession & I am used to how men rib each other.
I know that a thick skin is vital!! However, there was a situation that tugged at my heart the other day. I work with a man, he is not my favorite person because of his abrasive attitude.
He weighs roughly 400 lbs (that is an estimate) I think it is much more.
He came in & proudly announced to the other guys that he had just gone to the doctor & has lost 20 pounds in the last two months. That's when they started! All of the guys were laughing & telling him his doctor was crazy, asking him where he lost it, etc....
He turned around & started walking my way (he uses my desk after I leave), there was a look of such sadness & utter defeat on his face my heart just sank! I knew he was one joke away from going to the vending machine & getting something disgustingly fattening! That's what I would have done! People who aren't emotional eaters will never understand what it does to you when people tear you down like that but I get it.
Even though he's not one of my favorite people, I realized that maybe his abrasiveness is there to mask his insecurity. I decided to say something positive! I told him that I overheard what he said to all of the guys & that 20 pounds in 2 months was awesome!! He looked at me, like he never has before, and said thank you for saying that, everyone else just made fun of me. I told him to keep it up & keep doing what makes him happy & healthy.
I was so glad that I was able to make him feel a little better. When I came back to work today I told the guys that I thought they were unkind to say those things to him because they were not going to be able to see a 20 lb loss on such a large person but, instead of making fun why not tell him that he's doing good! It might just change his life :)
