Hi GoldTag,

My first advice is to be patient and try to stay positive. Your spinal surgeon should be recommending physical therapy for you soon. I started PT after 3 months, and in 2 weeks I was in a much better place. I'm still on Gabapentin and Tramadol - but my strength is coming back.

I am also still having the hip pain. I've heard from others with similar surgery that it takes a full year to get 100% better. So we need to DO what the doctor says and be patient.

My doctor also said I would be on Gabapentin "for a while"... so I'm not sure what that means. All in all, we went through MAJOR surgery, and our spines are core to our mobility. I work hard a PT, and visualize myself a better/stronger self than I have been in a long time.

Hang in there!

Shelivan welcome to our team. So sorry that you remain in pain after your spinal fusions. I can not imagine your frustration and depression after having 2 fusions with little results. All I can say is take it one day at a time. What are you able to do? I can only walk short distances because of poor endurance and shortness of breath. I still can not stand in one place for more than a few minutes. I can walk if I could breath better. I hate not being able to do what I want. Sometimes my pain is outrageous others not so bad. I know I do feel better when I can walk. Hugs my friend. I hope you get relief from your pain.

Hello my name is Shelivan. I use to be on spark people years ago. I just made my way back. I had a spinal injury October 2017. I had a spinal fusion April 2018. It didn't work for me. I lost fifty pounds during the healing process; that has never really taken place. I'm in the same pain as I was before the surgery. I hope you are feeling well. P/T, a nuerologist, nor could the pain center do anything for me.
They are suggesting another surgery.

I have not has spinal surgery so really no help there. But I know after my l4-l5 fractures I had terrible weakness. It had taken me over a year to get strength back, my balance remains poor. I do a lot of one foot stands holding on to chair for support. Other than that just keep working at it. Sounds like you are doing great post -op.

12 weeks ago today, I went in for Spinal Fusion Surgery. I think I am probably 98% better than normal.
The only problem is, my hips are still weak and I walk off balance. I am doing exercises to strengthen my hips and pelvic area, but it's slow going. Any suggestions?

I Can (will) Do This! I Can(will) reach my goals!
