Funny you should ask, I just finished a cup of tea for "dessert". Only these days there is a downside to liquid, need more TP.

no I didn't have any good teachers --- my parents were the ones who helped me more to learn than any teacher I had in school. I have no answers to what to do in kitchen

QOD - Answer for me yesterday was to make a pot of tea and drink a cup and then ask myself if I still wanted the food. Worked pretty well. Also wondering if the extra hydration had anything to do with the inflammation decreasing around spine.

Janey, I thought you were spec ed too. SP seems to attract a lot of teachers. Of course I learned about it in the first place from ESD admin, so maybe there was a big push with school districts to nurture their teachers with SP.

Gwynanne, I hope you had some really good teachers. Sometimes that is enough.

First day out and about with Buds. I drove to the river and then walked him 1/3rd mile without problems. Then I spent 20 minutes gardening and my back still feels good. I think that is sufficient pushing it for today. I have only been able to walk 1/4th block the last two weeks.

GD is quite enthusiastic about her new online classes at PSU. I don't think spring break sat too well with her. She likes challenging her mind.

QOD: What alternatives do you do when you want to go in kitchen and browse?

I have a brain injury that went undiagnosed till I was 40 years old -- I could have used special ed while I was growing up but unfortunately didn't get any. Special Ed back in my day was for "retarded" individuals. Brain Injuries and Learning disabilities were unheard of in those days

Sounds like I fit right in here. My whole career was in Special Education. First at a residential school, then a state hospital, followed by middle school and finished up in elementary. I am still on the board for The California Oragnizaton for Special Educators.

Yes, it might be hard work and frustrating at times, but the rewards are huge.

Took me 20 years to get my degree. I had a couple babies and a couple divorces before I got done. Sounds like you had some pretty cool jobs over the years.

my career has had its zigs and zags. I went to college for 3 years after high school. I quit due to personal problems. and did waitrissing for a while. went on to clerical work and had a hard time holding a job. I discovered at age 40 I had a brain injury and had help with vocational counselor, went to school to be a paralegal. did that for 12 years and got downsized. unemployed for 2 yeas and the only job I could find was working with disabled === so i am doing that now and love it+-

So glad you are getting some positive reinforcement from the cpap. Will make it more motivating to work toward compliance.

On your page you mentioned you work with disabled people. I was an Ei/ECSE teacher for 20 years. Before that EA for school age special needs and and RA for group homes with young adult residents with disabilities. Post retirement, I was a concierge at an assisted living facility so as you can see I perked up with interest at your chosen career. Would love to hear more.

I took three ibuprofen this morning and put an ice pack on it to get the swelling down. I feel so much better. I was able to walk farther this morning. Getting into the spinal clinic system may take over a week, but I did get into kp.org and the surgeon did put the order in. Hoping for more good advice.

Loving my Pineapple Express. It is the best cpap ever.

Janey, what therapies are you using? Surgery is not an option at this time due to the corona virus, but I kind of like the intermediate steps first. I asked why I was referred for surgery and he said it was because it is severe and a lamenectomy can completely fix it. Wonder what that would be like. I have had this problem since I was nine years old. It is just worse now. If I can get it back to normal for me, I am all for that.

Janey so glad you have stayed well. Had the phone consult with the neurosurgeon. With the corona virus, surgery is not an option for the time being. He is referring me to a spinal clinic so I can try some intermediary activities for the time being. Actually quite grateful for the cpap and the filtered air I breath at night. I think it keeps my lungs in good shape.

The call back for 2nd mammogram and ultrasound was okay. The suspicious node was finally viewed in its entirety with the ultra sound and looks healthy. I go back in one year. That was layer of the anxiety onion peeled. Great relief.

Years ago LankyLefty at FreeCPAPadvice.com was my go to for all concerns. He was a young tech, enthusiastic and to the point. Unfortunately his website is not free anymore and his videos are twice as long because he has unnecessary filler and joking. So my recommendation is to check out different masks on you tube. I typed in cpap masks 2020. Also cpap.com can give you an idea and reviews of different masks that you might want to try. www.cpap.com/find?gclid=Cj0K

Keep us updated on your progress.

Fun things to do while practicing social distancing.
2) Write down ten names you might consider naming your cpap machine. LOL. I am laughing because one of our members loved her machine so much she named it Clint Eastwood. I named mine after the Chinook winds that blow across our county. That was my old machine.

Let me see if I can come up with a new name for the newer machine......Pineapple express (current weatherman name for chinook winds), Windy, Packy (after Packy the elephant of great fame in our area as the hose looks like a trunk. Okay I will continue working on names later. I need to get some work done. Talk to you this evening or tomorrow.

Another thought. Since I have had the cpap I have not had any more respiratory issues. I think we might be blessed breathing filtered air at night. Good sleep keeps the immune system strong. Because I am older and have some ongoing health issues I have traded my job at the tax office to the owners granddaughter who lost her restaurant job. Win/win for us both. Since I am keeping a low profile and practicing social distancing, I thought we could try to list thirty fun things to do during a quarantine. One a post so we can stretch this out and think about it.

1) Make a soup from whatever is in the kitchen. Fun and tasty.

I used an ace bandage wrapped around my head like an old tooth ache commercial. It actually worked, till the provider finally came out with chin straps which work a whole lot better. Think it took a couple years or more to train myself to keep the mouth shut.

Tried nasal masks a couple times and that extra pressure on my sinuses just gave me headaches.

I like my Esson 2 very much.

I have used a chin strap for years because my mouth always fell open. Sometime last fall I needed a new one but just kept forgetting. One night I just didn't use it and what do you know I kept my mouth shut! I guess 10+ years of training was worth it. I still will occasionally have my mouth fall open but not regularly or frequent. Let me know if you try this option as I found one particular style very comfortable.

Welcome to the team. The masks are the hardest part to adapt to. I fell in love with my machine and woke up refreshed the very first morning, but I fought with the masks for years before I got a good fit. Twenty years ago they were rigid and did not adapt well to different face shapes. The technology is also much better and it is easier now to call your tech support and ask questions. BUT.... we are here just in case you have a question. Most frequent issues are about traveling, losing power and rain-out in the tube. oh and of course the ever annoying mask fit. For me the cpap was a life saver. I hope you also feel much better.

Within two weeks you should be quite comfortable with your machine. If not it may not be the right components for you. Be aware that there are several different ways for air to be fed to you ranging from full face masks to a relatively small piece that fits on your nostrils.

GD is babysitting cat in Hillsboro while her mom and BF are visiting his folks in Australia. My daughter is loving it so much, I am not sure she wants to come home.

Younger GD is continuing to heal from aneurysm. Neurosurgeon is consulting with peer in Seattle now regarding gamma knife treatment. She might be able to go back to school

GS is playing with his drones. He seems none the worse for wear. Last Sunday he was bickering with his sister so that is good.

Felt wonky all day so missed church and visiting grandkids. Doc put me on prednisone and ordered an immediate MRI because my backside keeps going numb when I try to walk more than half a block. Poor Buds is missing his walks. Anyway, I think it is the prednisone that is amplifying everything else even though the back feels better. LOL

Forced air furnace and winter, I always feel like my face is cracking. Been staying oiled with coconut oil and Burts Bees lip balm.

Fun stuff, I am sewing a jacket with that sewing machine that a friend gave me. Mostly I am resting in between bouts of cleaning.

Tax season is in full swing, so I have been working 3 hours a day. It is about all I have energy for.

Unfortunately, the link says it is unavailable in our country. I am glad the fire is out, but hoping you get just the right amount of rain. The eastern part of our state is flooding. It is also one of those dry hard places. At least in the rain belt we can absorb a lot of water without issue. BUT...... TODAY is GLORIOUS. emoticon

Walked Buds with friends in the sun and then went to lunch. Tax office was busy this morning. I left about noon thirty. Glad I did or would have missed friends. TOPS tonight. Buds is barking at me. He thinks I have sat too long.

GD is moving around more, but her head hurts when she is upright. Went to GSs play yesterday. It was a pow wow, program on Native Americans and kind of a play too. Several tribal people worked with the students on this program. I truly enjoyed it and learned a lot.

I was hoping those fires were coming under control. I hadn't heard much about it recently, but that could either mean control or nothing is changing so no report. Just devastating even to think about.

Australia has gone from one extreme to the other. At least the very heavy rain put out a huge fire that had been burning out of control for 2 1/2 months.

Your climate sounds a bit like mine in Southern California. We go from drought to flooding, and of course it takes less water to cause problems in a fire zone. Wishing you just enough water to break the drought.

PLEASE send some of the rain down here. In places in my area there is a SIX WEEK WAITING LIST to buy in a tanker load of water for those of us on roof-catchment. We are in the throws of a bad drought, however down near the bottom of the South Island they have just had massive flooding, totally annihilating an only road in/out of a tourist area, as well as many other roads. They had to rescue a lot of people via helicopter, and thousands had to be evacuated. The water was 1/2 way or more up the sides of houses. Over 1 metre of rain fell in just over 48 hours.

Anything opened is tossed to avoid cross contamination. I think it is better for the environment if we can use and recycle that stuff. You can be sure the hospital charged the adult kids for that foam mattress.

I am heading to Longview today to get Buds a pawdicure and buy more of his supplements. Then I have a paint class tonight. It has felt good to have a regular routine today. Especially since it means that GD is home. Well, I better get hopping and get the fur babies feet beautiful.

I need to wash the van too, but it is raining. Sunday we should be back to drier weather so will wait a few days.

I love little babies and love cuddling them. They are scrummy :-)

I am a wiz at shopping at hospitals LOL! My sister was amazed and what I could get, and none of it 'taken' as I always asked. I have come home with Kylie sheets, pillows, dressings, etc. and that was from when I was only visiting a patient emoticon

Thank you. I am so happy everyone gets to be home.

What a blessing to be able to hold a baby. I think GS was last baby I held and he is nine. I shouldn't complain. I got to hold babies for 20 years as part of my job.

Sending love and comfort prayers for your family.

I spent the evening putting together and measuring a cot I bought on Amazon. It is really sturdy. But not the dimensions claimed. Which louses up my ability to add an extra mattress to it. Still it will fit well in the van and that does give me two sleeping options other than the couch when GKs come to visit. I also grabbed the waffle foam the hospital gave the adult kids to sleep on. So I might not need that extra mattress. It already has a three inch mattress on it. and with the waffle foam I should be good for traveling. I am not sending it back, but I did complain to the seller. We will see what happens.

Your Grands are sure no ugly ducklings emoticon They are gorgeous.

I'm glad that your GD is doing better.

Yesterday was my sister-in-law's funeral. She was only 61 but given her very serious health issues, she had already surpassed what had been expected. I got to cuddle my brand new little 2-week old great nephew yesterday. He is soooo gorgeous.

Thank you. I sure had fun with them on that trip. They are part of the reason I bought the van.
