Our tournament season is over until world championships in late June. Next event in our area won't be til late July, hope to be healed enough by then to compete. Have a testing the week before and I really want to give it a try.

I can relate. I had a bad tournament about 1 year ago and haven't gone back because it really got me down. I know that I have to try again, but worry about having another bad time.... I think I'll try to sign up for the next and really practice for it!

Today I will track my food and exercise. This I will do for myself.

Thanks for the encouragement! I am looking forward to the next tournament. I am not sure when though. Our family is very busy for the next couple of months and the kids activities must come first.

Oh yeah, wife posted that we have had tournies recently. 3 in the last 2 months.

1. 2nd forms, 2 sparring, 2nd weapons
2. 1st sparring, 1st weapons (just learned my 2nd degree form and did not place)
3. 2nd forms, 3rd sparring, 1st weapons

Also was a judge at all 3, I know lots of people don't like it, but it can be fun. (as long as you don't get any angry parents)

Hang in there Ken. Sounds like you got a rough draw for judges. Some of them look for specific things and it doesn't matter how well you do everything else. I tell my students that trophies and medals are nice but the most important thing is try your best and have some fun. I have met some of my best TKD friends at tournaments. I only get to see them a few times a year but that makes me look forward to the next time even more.

Well!!!!

1st: I flopped on my tourney, I messed up my form, before I finished I asked to repeat. Was granted my request and did it perfectly (according to spectators) but was penalized for the redo. I was a little bewildered though. One of the other participants was asked to redo his form b/c he had forgotten 5 movements, and even made a comment to me about it b/c he did the same form as me. He received a 2nd place. What the HECK!!!
2nd: Did well on breaks but did not get good scores(same judges as form HMMM!!!!!) I am a 8th Gup and performed a back kick, step side kick and then a ridge hand.
3rd: Sparring(which I knew that I was not prepared for that well) They did not bracket by Gup and weight class, only age and a very wide range of Gup even though there were 16 people in my age group.

All in all not a good experience at all. I was the only one from our studio there and felt like it all day.

I hope to do another tourney in the future but am not anxious!

Thanks for the support though! It was really appreciated!
Ken

Tell us how it goes!

My school is participating in touney. on May 1st. There 25-30 student signed up so far and probably more to come. Last year they brought home LOTS of hardware, which was exciting to see. If I wasn't taking time off, this would be my first tournament aswell.

awsome!! and good luck to ya!! i did not participate in our tournaments here this year...however, i was a judge/referee this time...it was amazing...i know you will do wonderful!! and what helps me to keep from being so nervous, is i keep in mind, every judge out there is a black belt...they have competed as a color belt and in our case here, we are required to participate as a black belt as well...so when we grade, we never forget that we were there at some point, too...just go up, and show your confidence...let them see what you have learned and how well you know it!! good luck!! emoticon

I am going to participate in a tournament on Sat. 4/24. I am beginning to become a little nervous. I am competing in all three events; breaking, forms and sparring. I hope to do well in all three events!
