Hey team , There are a lot of walks/runs in Oct in and around San Jose. check them out and try one or two. Oct 6thThe wag n walk with your dog at happy hollow park proceeds go to the humane society. Oct 14 Diabetes walk at Guadalupe river trail, Oct 20 The Alzheimer's walk and Oct 27 The making strides for breast cancer just to name a few : ) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone as you might already know there are a lot of charity events in our area to get involved in and as the fall starts to come back I would like to challenge everyone to get involved in a at least one walk or run in our area. In October there is a diabetes walk, Alzheimer's and making strides for breast cancer there are also some great bike rides for 35,65 and 100 miles like the condor classic in morgan hill. Check it out and start preparing to support a cause emoticon

I'm looking for someone that will keep me on track also, how often do you sign in? I will start my walking today, doing 3 miles and on Tues, Wed and Fri I will do weights. I've just signed up and I'm looking to take the 1st step to better all around health.

There's a MS walk downtown 5k April 30th and the same weekend there is a relay for life at union middle school april 29th and april 30th. There is 5K willow glen walk/run may 7th the 2nd Annual San Jose Stepping Out To Cure Scleroderma Walk/10KRun! May 15 and the Terre bella biking event in gilroy april 16th 30, 60, 100 and 120 mile routes. Lets go San Jose !!!!! emoticon

Hi I am new here and have been looking at different communities for challenges. I am looking for a real challenge something that will help keep me on track and motivated. I would love to do a weekend morning jog or dividing into teams of two or three to compete against each other through weekly weight ins. Then we can meet up as group to do a weekly activity. These are my suggestions please let me know your thoughts. LETS GET THE BALL ROLLING.....

I would so love to do a challenge! Especially with more local people :)..Im from Gilroy, and San Jose is the closest group I could find..But I would love to do something with exercise..like getting "X" minutes done a week?? or do "X" days of strength training a week..???

What do you mean by a month to tone up? Work on toning one body part over another or the whole thing? Please help me understand it better. :)

Here are some good challenge ideas:

* Keep track of all your food for a month (I usually did it a couple of weeks before I gave up)
* Learn two new healthy recipes a week
* Find -- or form!-- a walk-run group
* Challenge another Bay Area SparkTeam in SparkPoints
* If we all have about 6 months to prepare, we could be challenged to run half-marathon!
* Start or join a recreational sports team -- basketball, soccer, even playing tag will do!
* Perhaps members of this sparkteam could pool in some money for a once-a-month instruction -- like a personal trainer, yoga teacher or kickbox class.
* Try a new fitness DVD -- there should be several to choose at the library, or if someone has Netflix there are plenty to choose from, or if someone has on-demand there's exercisetv.

I like the ideas you both provided. I think we should start out small though and make it a monthly challenge to get more members involved. I do like the idea of the team competition. Let's see how we do these first couple of months and, if we have strong participation, we can work on team competitions also.
I think we should start with exercise and move into tracking or drinking enough water. Let's build up the healthy habits!

I love challenges, because they keep me on track. What about just rotating through some of the quick start challenges in each area? Pick one for nutrition one month, then fitness, motivation, wellness, other, etc. It could be as simple as tracking 8 glasses of water or exercise 3 days a week or finding a motivational quote and sharing it weekly. ??? Just throwing ideas out there!

I'm interested

I am involved in another team challenge. We are divided into 4 groups(or depending on how many people). Its a 3 month challenge. Weekly weigh ins, see which team can lose the most, most calories burned etc. Within our team, dailys posts helps us with our challenges, get to know each other.
Takes alot of work for team leaders though I'd imaging.

Other ideas might be who can have the most calories burned, weekly.
Pick several excercises, who does the most for the month.
