The dog is no worse for the wear and tear. They now will sit and stare at each other. All I have to say is "no cat" and the dog will not even look at her.
I can't cut the claws not enough of me to hold her down and do it. Never thought of the claw covers that might work.

She had a bad tongue experience herself when she was a kitten. We lived in Idaho and in an area where there was a lot of cheat grass. She got a seed from the grass clear through her tongue. It took both my husband and my self to remove the grass seed. She has always had a black scar on her tongue where the seed went through. And she was about three months old at the time.

Oh the poor, poor dog! This made me laugh, but I agree with someone who posted here: can you cut the cat's claws? Or put those rubber tips on them?

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry - cry for the poor dog with a claw through the tongue or laugh as I could picture the entire scene. I hope the dog's tongue heals quickly.

Kids and pets sure keep us on our toes don't they?

Quite an experience for you all!

Awwwwweeee!!! Your poor baby! I bet that really hurt to have the cat's claw caught in the dog's tongue! I bet you were really surprised when you what had happened. I've never heard of pup corn, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the grocery store or one of the pet stores.

Hugs to da puppy

That's a funny story. Hope doggie tongue is o.k.

Kind of reminds me of my kids-Sneaky Pi,would lay in wait for Keshka-d & pounce her anytime. I would hear yelping from Keshka but her & Sneaky would be the best of friends at nap time.

Your story was too cute! Thanks for sharing! Our dogs love Pup Corn and one of our cats will eat some too ( but the dogs don't know that). It would not be pretty if what happened at your house happened here either.

My daughter has a habit of throwing some Pup Corn, pieces to her dog when she leaves the house. Pup Corn resembles foam in the shape of a dog and they are about one inch in diameter and tend to roll into impossible places.

On this day after she headed out to school, I kept hearing a scratching noise. I have a black cat that has a problem with her claws. They have an extra curve so when they get into something she cant get them out without pulling and tearing to get them out.

The dog was sniffing around here and there looking for Pup Corn that she could still smell.

The cat was sleeping in a chair in my bedroom so she wasnt caught on something.

I went back to the kitchen and was doing dishes.

I hear the dog and cat having a conversation.

Grrr and hiss; grunt and meow so the conversation goes. I never know what they say to each other however; usually it seems to be over territory.

The cat owns my bedroom and the utility yard and the dog owns the remaining parts of the house and the lawn.

I hear the conversation getting louder and louder. So I peek into the hall and the dog is on one side of the door and of course Im sure that the cat is on the other side.

So I let them talk to each other, sending cryptic messages.

I return to the kitchen and the dishes.

Suddenly war breaks out in the hallway. The dog is yelping the cat is screaming and the door is still closed. However the dog is now glued to the bottom of the door. Upon closer examination the dogs tongue is under the door.

(I forgot to mention all of our doors have about and inch clearance between the floor and the door. The reason has to do with heating and cooling distribution.)

I have to go out side take off the screen to the window and climb in the window and over my desk, knocking over a plant in the process, which scares the cat.

I finally get in and find that the cat has a claw caught in the dogs tongue. I grab the cat and disengaged the cats claw from the torn tongue of the dog. What a bloody mess, poor dog. There is a Pup Corn lodged in the corner of the room next to the door.

I now know what the conversation was about. The dog wanted the Pup Corn and the cat thought that the dog was playing with her. So being a cat if it teases her she attacks it. Being a good mouser Im sure she thought the tongue coming under the door was a toy. Then her claw got caught in the tongue.

It was difficult but, finally got the nail extracted from her tongue.

And for some reason the dog shies away from Pup Corn now.

This is one conversation that none of us will forget for a very long time.
NOTE:
The dog still tries to get anything that goes under the door but, she is less persistant.
