New Decade Chat

hey, girls, gotta move on to the February chat now. Susi started it this morning.

I love my pets. There are a lot of things in life that I really like, my pets are one, creating/making hand projects is another. I am glad they go together. Speaking of, Chloe wants me to feed her....

It get's a little crowded when I crochet too. Either my parrot or my daughters cat has to sit on me when I crochet. Sometimes it's both of them.

I know. A little bit of my cat and dog are knit and crocheted into everything I make because they are either in my lap or beside me as I work.

Snow is one thing but ice that is extremely dangerous.

I have to have something on when I am crocheting, now comfy clothes are a must. It is a bit hard to crochet with a cat in your lap but I manage.

Staying home and knitting or crocheting has been the most relaxing and enjoyable thing for me to do lately. I dim the light, get into comfy clothes and knit or crochet away. No music. No TV. Just me, my thoughts, and my projects. Bliss!

Yes, we are getting the ice too. (Western PA)

After reading about all of the awful weather everyone is expecting, I hope everyone stays safe if they need to go outside.

About the scarf--I always say it's the little mistakes that make it uniquely yours!! Of course, we see our own mistakes much easier than anyone else does!

About the weather, they are predicting 1-2 feet of snow here, for goodness sakes! And Tina, I was there, driving down the Turner turnpike Christmas Eve'09. We got to OK City right before they closed the whole turnpike down. Took us 3 hours instead of 1 1/2.

I'll join you all with ice skates and skis. :( Ours is supposed to hit this evening sometime, maybe around 7 or so. Pblttttttt! They're telling us we could get 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice. Good goobully goo! I do believe this whole half of the country is going to get it.

Hi everybody! Things are starting to settle in a bit at the new job. It's just very busy and fast paced. Both of the girls are doing better and I think I'm finally on the mend. Just have a lot of gunk in my head and throat. We are getting ready to get hit hard here in OKC with snow and ice. They are saying it will be like Christmas Eve 09 only colder! Yikes!!!!! We aren't built for that kind of snow here!

Here in Virginia, where I'm visiting, we're expecting sleet and freezing rain. I HATE this winter.

I love cookbooks like that, with people's favorite recipes. You find great recipes in them.

Morning all, boy am I washed out.

I love tasting luncheons, we use to do them at the library but it was so work intensive and brough in very little revenue we stopped.

Snow and sleet is moving back in for us tomorrow, won't be anything like 9 degrees but we don't get that kind of weather here so anything freezing and below hurts us.

We have a Tasting Luncheon in March put on by our Womans Club and we sell the cookbooks. It have to go to the printer on Thursday.

I just took Chloe (my dog) outside @ 6:30am and it is a frigid 9 degrees. She usually wants to dawdle, but this morning she came right back in.

I am knitting away on my baby blanket that needs to be done by the end of March. I've already made a couple of mistakes that were too far back to fix and not big enough to rip back to. Barely noticeable. My knitting friends calls those "amish" mistakes.

Peggyo-who is the cookbook for? I love cookbooks. I'm a budding cook at 51 years old.

Hopefully you won't have gotten the virus but if you did I hope it doesn't last long. My son-in-laws parents live in England and quit a few people there had the flu around Christmas and New Year. Pray it isn't coming here.

Payton spent the night last night and she and I went to church this morning.

I hope those of you that are trying to fight off the virus are successful...we had one going around here a couple weeks ago and it was BAD!!

didn't get to work on the scarf last night with Payton here, but am planning to knit tonight. I have some valentine patterns that I would like to crochet BEFORE Valentine's Day so I amy have to work on them for a while. Would like to try them. I will try to post them on here for you ladies in case you want to try them.

Yesterday was so lovely. We had temp in the low 70's with sunshine. Hubby grilled out and we took all the plants outside and gave them a good watering. It was a great day.

Now today, I have gotten up sick to my stomach and I have heard from my best friend that she was very sick last night. There was the horrible virus going around work and we thought we had missed it but she has it and now I am worried.

I hope you feel better soon Cindi. Oh, you've never heard of the internet virus? LOL!

I woke up this morning thinking it was Monday. Nothing like pushing the weekend out of the way.

Now I'm sick. Headache, runny nose and eyes, ears hurt and body hurts.

I'm so glad you're feeling better now Cindy. :) My bil is sick now. Sure glad hubby and I haven't gotten it..yet.

At 45 I would be wearing just a long sleeved shirt with no jacket. LOL! That would be a heat wave for us too. I'm sure that feels cold though in Fla.

We will have payton this evening and she is staying over night so I thought I better get on here now before she gets here. Sometimes she is a little demanding and doesn't want Grandma on the computer, but other times she will sit right beside me and watch cartoons...depends on how mad she is when she gets here if her Daddy has made her mad OR if she has gotten her nap in without being awakened. Hopefully she will be in a good mood.

I am still working on the scarf...almost 3/4 done, but won't get to sork on it this evening. I KNOW Payton won't let me do that!!! She will want to "Help" and she just isn't much help! LOL

Gee, Peggy...45 and you wore a winter coat?!?! It got 43 there today and we felt like we were havign a heat wave!!! No winter coat for me today...just a sweatshirt. Can't wait until spring so we can start working on the land and be done with all this cold weather and snow. I second the question...IS IT SPRING YET?!?!?!?

Feeling almost new, thank God. More snow, for goodness sake, I'm so ready for spring.

All that illness and I lost some weight. I'm ahead for Feb now, only 2 pounds to lose by the end of Feb, instead of 3.

I even got to wear my winter coat to breakfast this morning. It was 45. Pretty cold for Florida but it is warming up.

I think I pulled something in my left hip or upper leg area. It's a bit on the sore side this morning, nothing major though, just mostly annoying.

Actually Jan...someone posted the mistake in the pattern...I didn't figure it out. I kept thinking I was messign up and kept taking it out!! I have finished 80 rows and it is coming along nicely. I am going to work on it a little while in a few minutes.

Our anniversary is tomorrow and since we will have Payton over night we went out to eat tonight. Peggy...I didn't get the hot fudge cake I talked about on Bl team. I ws just too full after eating the salad, half the baked potato, adn half the steak. Maybe next time!

Hope everyone has a good weekend...if I don't get on here I will be back on Monday...depends on how demandign Payton is!

BAck from another busy day. These trips with Jerry to the radiation really takes a big bite out of the middle of the day. 9 down 34 to go.

He'll like that hug, I'll give it to him tomorrow, I'm home for the night now, thank you!

His test came back great so he can go 2 years before a recheck. :)

It's been a long 2 days for me and I know yesterday really wore him out. He rested a lot today though and I just got off the phone with him and he's getting back to his ornery self. :)

I was at dad's so much yesterday I just didn't feel like getting on last night when I got home, so I have to go back and do my trackers.

I had to prep him for a colonoscopy for this morning. Sure wasn't easy in his condidtion. It was easier on him though, so I guess that's what matters. Little sis came after work and stayed the night cause we have to have him at the hospital at 6 this morning. I had to set the alarm to get up really early so I could get everything done. Hopefully I'll get back her on time this evening.

Cindy, a flat tray or anything would help for your laptop, sure don't want to burn it up.

Kelly you are a trooper, you figured out the the error in the pattern and just keep on keeping on.

Cindy just make sure that the laptop gets plenty of air up underneath, if it gets too hot it will burn somehting out and that won't be good.

yeah, i do have it just sitting on the desk, so maybe that's why it gets hot. I actually brought a potholder to work and slipped it under my sleeve to see if that would help, and it really did! I could ask for a holder or whatever, but I'm not going to pay for it. I thought about taping some cardboard to it, but then it would'nt close up unless I untaped it, so I guess I'll stick with the potholder for now. Maybe my skin is just a bit sensitive, too.

still working on the knitted scarf...found out there wasw a mistake in the pattern...NO WONDER I KEPT THINKING I WAS MESSING UP!!! I hate when that happens. I never think about there being a mistake in the pattern...I just think I messed up!Have the scarf about half done now...I ma thinking I will make more of these...it is turnign out really nicely. I like the pattern too. THese will probably be Christmas presents for several people.

I stayed the same this week...I did more exercise last week so maybe it is muscle?!?! who knows...it seems like when I do more exercise I either stay the same or gain. FRUSTRATING!! But...I will keep at it.

Weather here is crazy...has snowed more the past couple months that it normally does all winter...and then Saturday it is suppose to be in the high 40's CRAZY!!! It was in the single digits last week and 20's this week.

Off to work on the scarf some more!

My laptop got overly hot in the back and my husband cut a piece of wood to lift it up in the back and I haven't had any problems
There are pads that they sell in Staples etc. to lift your wrists up so you don't get Carpal Tunnel

Is you laptop on a cooling pad? Mine doesn't get hot but I work off of a laptop table and have the laptop on a cooling pad.

Cindy, a wristband might work, but you may want to check into why your laptop is getting that hot on the top, it shouldn't be. Do you have enough ventilation on the bottom or sides where the vents are? If not, that could be the cause.

Feeling better today, and I got the pink yarn, so away i go with leticia's afghan. work is becoming a bit boring. I do a lot of typing on the laptop and I'm wondering if you girls have any suggestions about what to do to keep my wrists from getting so hot on the laptop, it's like it's burning my skin. I couldnt find anything at Walmart, and I'm thinking of fashioning some kind of wristband to lift up my arms or something. any thoughts?

Just got back from Jerry's radiation and I am getting a lot of knitting done in the car on the way up and back. As soon as I finish my shawl I will be able to crochet.

As far as the swap thing goes...the materials equaled up to that amount. Those prices were just the options on that swap...could be any amount...and yes...we often used stuff from our own stash...the material just had to equal to that amount...I often used things from my stash...we had a questionairre we answered...favorite colors, favorite types of yarn, we even sent workout DVD and things the people liked. I got fabric with frogs on it once and a pattern to make a purse with it. It questionaire asked for things like other hobbies/crafts, etc. One time I got one of those calendars where you tear off a page each day that has sayings on it. If you are trying to collect certain types of patterns you can get lots this way. I often got patterns printed from internet when I mentioned I needed patterns. In that swap the people liked the expensive yarns..hand dyed wools, etc., but I always put down that I am not picky and use a lot of Red Heart. It was nice to get those expensive yarns, but I still ahve several of them as I am trying to figure out what to do with them...something that I can make for myself. I got several types of sock yarn too...still need to use them. BUT...I realize that most knitters and chrocheters use the acrylic as it is the most readily available for us. I was just throwing out the suggestion to see if there was any interest, and we could do it however we choose.

Maybe we should make a thread to see if there is anyone interested in doing it?!?!

I am workign on the knitted scarf....I have taken it out 3 times...keep thinking I am making a mistake as the seed stitch isn't right in one part...come to find out, someone posted that the pattern had a mistake adn it was right where I kept thinking I was messing up! LOL Now I know and can do it correctly.

Snowing here in eastern KY...didn't have school since we were suppose to get at 3 inches by 8-9 this morning adn another 5-6 inches by this afternoon..it is now snowing so we will get some, but not sure how much.

for you Peggy. So happy for you. Somethime your body gets into a rut and you have to change things up to fool it. It appeared to have worked.

I lost two pounds this week. I think that is the most I have ever lost. I mixed up my eating and had different lunches.

Aww, please get better, Cindi. the Dr. gave our whole family antibiotics to get over this "crud" that's spreading like wildfire. I feel so bad. I've made at least 4 other people sick so far...

Well you have to get together when you can LOL. Amanda and her DH family didn't get together until the 8th to do their Christmas.

I sure could use a nap right about now, guess I better get back to work. Should get up take a short walk to see if that will snap me out of it then back to work.
