Power yoga and running has been the best thing for my thighs and legs in general.

To put thighs in a good view:
Some theories have shown that the fat stored around females pelvic region (butt, thighs)are kept as fat stores for when the females are nursing and extra fat is needed. As fat is lost on the rest of the body the fat stores in this region go into "survivor mode" to preserve the extra fat. Remember, the body doesn't know you want to lose weight, it thinks you don't have access to food anymore and tries to keep what it has so you don't die.

I have found pilates seems to be helping a lot. Its all about making your body lean and slim. I also have accepted that I will never have thin thighs. Even in high school when I was running 5 miles a day, doing karate 3 times a week, and riding horses for hours a day my thighs were larger. I just got bigger pants and accepted them for what they were.

My loss also seems to go in waves. It's like I build muscle and it pushes fat to the surface, then a layer of fat goes away. More muscle pushes fat up, then it goes away. Frustrating!

Yah Ive never been a real big fan of my thighs. I luv my butt but I gain most of my weight in my thighs and they can get thick if I let them. What I have found that works for me is running lots of miles and weight lifting such as squats, deadlifts and lunges. I am starting to see them go down and my jeans are fitting a lot better since doing Chalean extreme and running. Once I get to my goal weight Im going back to yoga/bar method 3 days a wk to length my leg muscles.

ugh, i hate my thighs.i guess they look okay in a pair of jeans but they are still so jiggly! and my butt i swear is just solid fat. i do however think my waist looks great right now, so i'm in the same boat as some of you. lots of people say squats are good for your butt so i think thats what i should get in the habit of doing, and i have been jogging which i like but in my opinion, jogging seems so slim me down little by little all over my body, and i mean all over- i swear even my arms look thinner when i've been joggin a lot.
anyway, i'm prediction lots of squats and lunges in my future (good suggestion from a few people) and hopefully keeping up with the jogging

I didn't read all of the entries yet so someone may have already said this.

I have the same problem and it is frustrating but you can't really decide where to lose the weight from. Your body decides that and it's prone to lose weight from certain area. So no matter what people say, you can't target problem area; you can only strengthen the muscle underneath.

If you are doing more strength training and lots of biking, then you are building muscle while losing fat and muscle weighs more than fat which could be contributing to the upward trend of the scale.
Make sure you're taking measurements because that's probably where you are going to see the changes.

Good Luck! and don't get discouraged!

I have the same problem...what thins them down the most for me is running. A lot of running. I did recently discover that I work out with most of my weight on the outsides of my feet (my outer thighs are toned and trim). I've recently started paying more attention to working out more balanced on my feet and definately feel like I work my inner thighs more when I do cardio.

Thank you for all the advice. I have troubles with my thighs too. I have been interested in the New York Ballet videos I saw at a store. The ballerina legs are the ones I would strive for.

DO lots of cardio a week to get the fat to start coming off. To get slimmer thighs try a dancers work out. Doing plies and kicks in all directions and while your doing it try to concentrate on using your inner thighs and not letting your quads do all the works. Its why ballerinas are so slender. Hope this helps =)

I also have bigger thighs and butt. I've noticed that my thighs are the very last place I lose fat. Even when I was thinner, my thighs were always the largest part on me and were never, ever, toned. For the last 6 months or so I have been running and doing p90x, which has a lot of leg strengthening workout in it. For me, my legs also became bigger (I guess muscle) before I started to shed some of the fat. Now, I am really excited because I am beginning to see definition in my legs that I never had before, and while I will always be curvy, I almost went down 2 pant sizes - so my thighs are getting proportionally smaller!

I guess what I am trying to say, is don't be afraid of the muscle you are putting on your legs. While every body is different, most likely if you keep up your workouts and caloric intake, the fat will start coming off i.e. smaller thighs!!! Good luck!

I can't add a solution, but I have an additional complaint.

My thighs look worse now that I'm lifting weights. My lower and back thighs are toned so my hips and inner thighs look HORRIBLE!! I have stretch marks on my inner thighs and the difference between the toned areas and the fatty areas is awful!!

I guess I just have to wait for the weight to come off to see the muscles underneath those areas. I sure is hard to wait though!

I feel your pain! My thighs are my serious problem area but I they have gotten better with these exercises!

Lots of Cardio, I do at least 30 minutes of constant cardio 4-5 times a week

Step ups (you can use a sturdy chair)

Lunges

Working my quads--I've read that strengthening your quads contributes to smaller thighs.

Hope this helps! best of luck!

Try some intense walking. I've been doing it just 2 weeks and I can already see them slimming. I warm up to one song, walk forward 2 and back 2 for another song, then do side steps for the next. Just repeat that pattern 2 or three times and i promise you will feel the burn and see the difference

Ah! The curse of thighs! I feel your pain :)
Two things that I think can help a little are - a video called Bollywood Booty (which is actually fun to do) and pilates.

I think thighs are a problem area for most women. They are certainly my problem area. Everything other ounce of fat on my body will come off before my thighs budge. But I just keep kickin it with the cardio and strength training and I'm slowly starting to see results!

If you store fat in your thighs/hips (like I do)... cardio, cardio, cardio!! I suggest intervals for 10 - 15 minutes, 4 to 5 times a week. I typically do sprint intervals, but if you are unable to do this you can start by doing jogging or running intervals. I typically do 30 seconds hard, 1 minute rest. But there are all types of intervals. Secondly, I strength train! Lots of lunges & squats. I have knee problems, so I typically do body weight exercises and do more repetitions in a set. Third, I take Pilates religiously, Mat classes, and I work with a private pilates trainer and do reformer workouts. Bonus of Pilates is that you tone ALL over!! I also Spin once a week!! Spinning is a great weight loss workout!!

I have no waist a big butt, hips and thighs and when I lost my weight the first and second time it was because of consistently doing aerobics, running and cardio. And knowing when to switch things up when my body got used to it. Im at the point now of not getting into my favorite jeans so I'm hopping back on the track and my wii and into my classes. Just be patient.

Lots of squats, and lunges!!! I have wii fit too and the yoga and strength training is awesome! As for cardio, running/fast pace walking is one of the best type of cardio you can do. Do the shocker, where you sprint/run for 30 seconds, then speed walk for 30 seconds, the run for 30 seconds...and so on and so on :) I'm currently in a boot camp, and it makes you realize you don't need a stinkin gym membership! We do lots of lunges, free weights, circuit training (different stations you do different things which is great cardio...some involve jump ropes, others carrying a weight in front while lunging, suicide runs, side squats, free weights, sit ups...all kinds of things). A girl I work with said she's never had this small of a butt before ;) and she thanks LUNGES AND SQUATS, I have to agree with her. Cardio is a plus though, find your pace and go with it ;)

I read in women's health that some women build muscle much more quickly than they burn fat and this can cause you to weigh more or look bigger for a short period of time. So maybe you are one of those people who builds muscle very quickly and the fat just hasn't quite had enough time to burn off? Just keep working hard and you'll get there! I also am a thigh girl....so I feel ya!

I think I'm going to start doing that again. I still like to bike and run. So I'll keep doing that. Maybe it will even out/

You got some good ideas here. I agree that yoga and pilates will help elongate your muscles. Swimming helps too! I feel for you, as my thighs are my problem area too. Good luck!

I have big thighs too. I have been doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for 3-4 times per week and also walking/jogging 3-4 times per week. I have lost inches from my thighs and I can tell they are toning up because I see the definition in them.

It's very possible that your thighs are actually gettig bigger. Cycling especially will cause the quads to enlarge. Lower body cardio will cause your legs to strengthen and therefore to enlarge. The only way to combat that is to "lengthen" the muscle fibers instead of bulking them up. Have you tried pilates or yoga? Those will strenghten your muscles while also elongated them.

if you're following your calorie range and getting lots of exercise, including strength training, you're putting on muscle.
Try using a tape measure instead of a scale. A lb of fat takes up a lot more space than a lb of muscle - and let's be honest - do you care about how thick your thighs are or how much they weigh? Be sure to measure other areas of your body - you might be losing fat elsewhere and staying the same in a problem area - but eventually it'll be shed.
