when my kids were that age I used them instead of hand weights. I'd lay on my back & put them on my feet or my legs & lift up, see if I could bench press them, stuff like that. They thought it was a game & would just giggle the whole time while I was having fun but also getting in a workout.

I make sure my 2 year old is in a good mood, not hungry, thirsty, tired, or just cranky. I get her started playing in her little kitchen and I do my video. It took a while for her to know not to bother my for 30 min. I still talk to her and help guide her play but she knows I am not going to pick her up or put new clothes on her baby doll. She did cry the first week I did this but now I think she likes her kitchen time. At 3 I would have the child where I could see and hear them. Tell them they need to play while mommy does there video. If the cry at first they will soon stop when the see that you are not giving in to them.

For the past 2 months I've been a sahm due to job loss, am home schooling my 7 yr old & taking care of my 2 year old who will not sit still for a minute. This was all hard when I was working the graveyard shift & not getting any sleep, but now since I have a bit more energy I either wait til my 2 yr old takes a nap to exercise, I sometimes take them to the gym with me, I exercise early in the morning before my hubby goes to work, the kids do the exercise videos with me (with the little weights I bought them) OR I take them outside & I come up with activities they enjoy that will keep us all moving & having fun for at least an hour.

My son works out with me and has done so since he was 2 years old (he's 4 now). I have found he likes more aerobic workouts (lots of jumping jacks, arm windmills, etc.) than others. I even bought him his own 1 pound weights so he could do Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred with me. (He has a crush on her and calls her Jillian girlfriend).

There are also some workouts with kids in them. Billy Blanks and Denise Austin are 2 that have some out now.

Good luck.

I am also a SAHM with 4 kids. Three are in school, but I have a 3 yr old at home and I also babysit a 2 yr old everyday. It may be difficult at first, but they both know that when I change my clothes and grab my stuff it's time for them to go play elsewhere, and we don't live in a very big house. Kids are pliable and, like your dog, trainable. I know some kids are more "needy" than others, but she can adjust to giving you an hour to do your workout. It also sets a good example for her to see you exercising and making it a priority. I do all my workouts at home with videos, even in the summer when the house is full of kids and only one TV in the house.

The problem with playing with skunks is, you both end up stinkin'...and the skunk likes it! So done playing with skunks! Surround yourself with people who lift you up and support you!

I used to have to wait until my kids were napping to work out, otherwise I would trip all over them. I stepped on my 6 year old when she was 3 doing The Firm. After that I always made sure she was out of the room.

A 3yo should still be taking naps, right? So that would be the time to get a decent workout in.

I'm also a SAHM (2 boys of 2 and 4) but I send them to daycare otherwise they'd drive me crazy!

Best of luck

Celeste

Sometimes I incorporate Jackson into my workouts. He likes playing airplane 20 times and being lifter for kisses 20 times. And don't forget horsey on each leg for 20 bounces each. He tries to slide over and get kisses when I do pushups or he'll ride on my back. He does a really good downward dog and will try to do yoga with me. He likes tae Bo and kickboxing moves, but he's only 2 and doesn't really understand not to hit others. Since he still takes a nap, I can workout then. Sometimes I wait until he goes to bed. Often I go to the gym while dad's home. My gym doesn't offer childcare either, but it is open when I'm available to go. Actually none of the gyms here offer it.

I have Boy twins' that are actually 5 today and when they were younger up until now,They would play with moon sand, play doh or watch a short movie while I worked out. One of my Sons would even work out with me and I think he did better then me...lol.
Some people don't like the idea of play doh or moon sand beacause of the mess, but we have a tempered glass top table they "work" on or I'll lay down a cheapo table cloth on the floor.

At 3,my boys' loved to cut paper and coupons..since they didnt cut right on the line,I gave them coupons I knew we wouldnt use. That would keep them busy, busy :)

Anyone have any ideas on how to get a good work out in with a 3 year old? LOL! I'm a stay at home mom with a 3 year old daughter with me 24/7 & it sometimes is a big challenge for me to work out with her around. When I try doing aerobics at home (DVD's) between her & my dog, I'm constantly tripping over her & my little annoying dog who I guess wants to work out, too - ha, ha - I can put him outside, but my daughter is always with me. I used to take her out for walks in the summer, but now it's winter & it's too cold to do that. I'd join a gym, but there's no way I can commit to that because I don't have a reliable babysitter and there's no gym around here with childcare - I've already looked into that. Which I think is B.S. - they should have more gyms with childcare around here - but that's another story (lol) - anyway, just looking for some ideas on how to get a good, efficient work out in with a toddler. If anyone elce has delt with something similar, or have any ideas - please let me know. I'm a mom on a mission. Thanks :o)
