Baby is turning 5 this August and I have had this extra 100lbs on way too long. HBP is getting ridiculous plus I just want my old body back before I end up a diabetic like many of my family members.

TAKING CHARGE OF MY HEALTH ONCE FOR ALL!!!!!!

I'm just learning the ropes here at Spark, thought I would try a post- I've been heavy all my life, with the exception of being very ill when I was 8 years old. I have been on yo-yo diets, some that worked and others that didn't. I lost a bunch of weight over the years but seem to gain it back. I have had several years of stress, some good, some not so great, that has really made me gain weight back. I've been able to de-stress my life some, which I'm hoping will help. emoticon

I've known for a long time. I always lost weight when the doctor would help me with a weight loss prescription but I would gain it back after wards because my eating habits never changed. Then last week I was shopping for a dress or skirt for an occasion and realized I kept trying on the longer ones that hit my ankles. Finally gave a knee length one a try and in the mirror I saw that puckering of skin like fat just above the back of your knees. I always say I'm not that big blah blah blah... runs in the family, you know the excuses. Well I'm mad now and I'm done with being fat. I hit it good while keeping track of what i'm eating. My nutrition needs some help but small changes work and exercise is my main focus for now.

There were a lot of things but the one that sent me into panic mode about my weight was a vanity thing. My 14 year old found a box of my clothes from before she was born and started wearing them. They were my as soon as I loose the pregnancy weight I will wear them again clothes. Gained another 100 lbs since her birth and quite a few sizes. I also just don't like the way I look and feel. So I decided to try again to lose this other person I am carrying around. Its not really about the clothes. I was just the shock of how much my size has changed.

I have always always been overweight and always wanted to lose it, and have lost some here and there, but never sticking with it. My work began a biggest loser competition and that's what got me here and back on track in January, but I'm going to stick with this long after the contest ends. I want to have a family with my husband and after some difficulties, I know that losing weight can only help.

When my doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure and had to be medicated in order to control it. I am still taking the medication, but I have a goal on my horizon that when I am successful I will be able to take a lesser dosage and possibly even stop taking the medication all together. I greatly look forward to that day very much!

I knew when my doctor told me I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. I also knew when I started having a hard time keeping up with my two children. emoticon

Lots of things. I've been overweight my whole life. I have several health problems, including hypertension, depression, fibro, and MS...all things which would benefit from a healthier lifestyle. But the kicker for this time around was when my reflux got so out of control that it started affecting my singing, which is one of the things I rely on for a sense of peace in my life.... Plus I was just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired all the time. Of being winded when walking a flight of stairs. Unfortunately, with the MS and fibro comes fatigue, and I'm having a hard time balancing my fatigue with my exercise exhaustion, and I sit here wondering when, if ever, it will balance out. I have to prepare for the fact that it may not, but that doesn't make the exercise any less important....

I knew it was time to start a diet and start exercising when my back started bothering me all of the time. Also, my clothes were getting a little snug and I was getting depressed.

So when my friend started the Sparkpeople program I decided to give it a go.

Fortunately it seems to be getting easier to move around and to resist the pull of sugary sweets...most of the time.

I have two occasions that I 'knew'. In January 2009, I got sick of the way I looked and felt sitting on the couch and I decided to do something about it. I was uncomfortable sitting down and getting up, plus I hated the way I looked in a mirror so I joined the biggest lose club. I lost 30 pounds in 5 months and then in September 2010 I got pregnant with my second and I tried hard to exercise and eat right through the morning sickness, but I was miserable so I slacked off a bit. When the pregnancy weight didn't come off right away and I was eating to soothe my stress (baby was waking up several times a night) so I decided as soon as baby started sleeping through the night I was determined to get back to a healthy lifestyle.

I've been living a fairly healthy lifestyle for a while now - but just recently I realized how much my weight has impacted my relationships (both romantic and non-romantic) and made me not do things because I was too heavy (hello zipline in China!, I'd like a redo!).

I was having some issues with chronic fatigue that the docs couldn't figure out. After months of going back and forth, I asked for my medical records so I could seek a second opinon from a naturopath. Seeing my file start out with the phrase "patient is an obese woman in her mid-30's" really made me sad and uncomfortable, and determined to get this weight off for good!

After having my children I went to the doctor to have my staples (C-Section) removed and he bluntly told me that I would basically look the way I did on that day unless I became more active and watched what I ate. I went home that evening, thinking that I just had kids. There was no way I would look like this. I took off my clothes and looked at myself in the bathroom mirror and cried. That view has burned itself into my memory. emoticon

I will improve my life and therefore my family.

I just knew I needed to. I was dragging my feet, not motivated and not wanting to. But knew that I would "start something" on January 1 (last year.) December 29 my mom told me about this website, SparkPeople, that she read about in that week's People magazine - the one that focuses on people who have lost half their weight.

I started Spark with no spark. I joined because I figured, "well, this *something* is new to me" and I got my motivation - my spark! - from joining this site, this team and building momentum.

"this time" it was because I randomly checked a fasting blood glucose, just to see what it was. I was shocked to see it was over 100 (120 to be exact) and realized that with a family history of diabetes and a diagnosis of PCOS, I needed to change things NOW or I was looking at a life of insulin resistance, diabetes, and worse. This time I am making life style changes, not just trying to lose some weight. I am thinking about food and exercise in a whole new way and taking the time to realize that making these changes make sense. I have spent a number of years not paying attention to my needs because I didn't want to be selfish. Well, it isn't selfish to want to be healthy, it is logical and healthy!

When my daughter started eating solid foods, I knew I had to stop eating the junk. My mom always made us eat healthy when I was younger and I never had a weight problem until I got pregnant with my daughter and started eating with no control. I believed people who told me the weight would melt right off because I was nursing my daughter; it did not even slowly come off.

There are practically no pictures of me with my daughter because I was so fat I didn't want any and I really regret that now. Even though I am not where I want to be, I am making myself get pictures with the kids.

I have been trying since I've had my son. Nothing has really been working. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I needed to start doing something to keep track and focus. 4 years later, my friends have had kids as well AND they have lost the baby weight. I'm still trying but I am dedicated. I might not see the numbers moving too much right now but I am getting into better shape as far as exercising goes.

I've always been heavy and knew I should eat better and exercise but it wasn't until a couple years ago when I went to the doctor for something else and they weighed me and I actually screamed and started crying.....I'd hit that number we all have in our heads of where we say we'll never let ourselves get to.......my doctor was trying to talk to me about the scheduled reason I was there and all I could do was bawl because of my weight. I started exercising then and lost almost 30 pounds.....then my RA flared and I got put on steroids which bulked me back up.....I'm now back on track and am down 16 pounds....wooohooo!

When my younger brother got married, in 2004, and I saw my pic. Then when I realized that my health was just not good. I just kept puting off losing, until my continued ed graduation arrived. Pics of me in my gown..ha! In 2009, I started really trying and lost about 50lbs! When I moved here 2 years ago, I was down about 70 and have kept it off!! It's time to really get dedicated and start moving numbers again!!

I started thinking about losing weight last March (2011). I knew I needed to get healthier, slimmer and smarter. I seriously started planning losing weight in June when it looked like I would have to buy a larger pant size for my uniform. But it really hit me when my husband just scoffed that I wanted to loose 100 lbs. I started my diet just to prove to him that I could do it. I joined Sparkpeople in January 2012, when I had lost 50 lbs. Now I am keeping at it just because I need to prove to myself I can do it.

June 25, 2009. I got a call from my doctor's office, the results of my blood work came in, and I had diabetes. Age 31. That's when I decided to turn it all around. I used Fitday to track for a few months, but I'd heard of Spark and joined in August. I stuck with it through till January, and lost a total of 66 pounds. Then a lot of BS happened, and crisis time, and rocks in the road, and I just stopped tracking. Seriously, I didn't even fall too far off the wagon, but I did go through a period in early 2010 of serious heavy drinking, and stress eating, and gained 40 pounds.

I'm back. :)

And all the strange rock and rollers
You know you're doing all right
So hold on to each other
You gotta hold on tonight

Two years ago I was pregnant with my first child. At 35 weeks my little boy was stillborn. I know my weight was a contributing factor and I never want to go through that again. I promised my angel I would get healthy. Almost 2 years later I still hadn't done anything, was getting bigger and I still want to have a child. It is time for me to take this seriously.

When I use to be one something and I ignored the scale and the next time I was 211 pounds. I did just go in a pound or two I went in by 11 pounds. I knew then I had to do something. I would also get winded tying my shoes.

I've always been fed up with my weight but for some reason when my FIL and his wife came into town in June of 2010 I was just totally embarrassed by how I looked. The Saturday after they left I decided I was completely done with they way I looked and vowed to change it. I have been on my journey going on 2 years, yes I have had some slips up but I know I'm so much better off now than I was then.

I kept saying that it was baby weight and that I would lose it. I also was saying that I had a c-section so it would take longer. It was only after i looked at peiton's baby pictures where the photographer accidentally took one of her and I that it dawned on me how big I was and how that was not the person I saw in the mirror and that it was time to stop making excuses and to do something.

My back fat. I couldn't sleep properly anymore.
My ankle, it started hurting about a year and a half ago, I'm pretty sure it started because of my weight.
Undiagnosed acid reflux. I felt the burn nightly, so I'm assuming that is what it was. 22 pounds lighter, I don't notice it anymore.
My hips, they hurt, possibly from the weight.
My knees, they crackle with every stair I take. I hope that will subside in time with more weight loss.
General huffing and puffing. The more I work out, the less often I run out of breath by the third floor of my building where I live.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.
