I make a no fat added hummus with canned chick peas and garlic powder. I use some of the juice off the beans instead of oil. Fat-free refried beans are awesome - I use it as a bean dip instead, or fill celery with it. YUMMM

This chat has inspired me to write my current blog, so thanks for that, you all have me writing again which is something I have very much missed doing.

I hope in some way, for those who want to read it, it helps you along your journeys to a healthier life.

You know its very strange. I have tried other times in the past to be more fit and healthy, and for a time, I would succeed. Until this or that would happen and I would fall off the rails. But this time, it's weird. I have a completely different feeling about my program. I feel so much more aware and in control. Even on a not so great day, I know that I am trying to do and don't beat myself up about it. Its a completely new sort of feeling where I simply will not accept failure. And I attribute it to knowledge. I have read and understand more in the last month about nutrition and my body than I ever got before. And it has me geared up and ready to push through things, Where in the past I would have just given up.

Do not ever let anyone tell you your not good enough. Find within yourself the center that makes you rise above all else and you will find true happiness. Everything else plays second and it all falls into line as it should be.

Herbalife has some great natural based/food based protein drinks. I make mine without milk. Not wanting to say anything bad against Alli but I havne't heard good things about what that actually does to your body. What is going to jump start your metabolism is the protein, so I would focus on that instead of the fat grams that you need to focus on with the Alli before it does bad things to you.
Just a suggestion that you can take or leave.

Tofu is a great thought. I can add it to smoothies easily. I do have to watch soy based products as they give me migraines. Doctor thinks it might be the plant estrogen messing with my hormones... emoticon

I have yet to find a way to prepare beans that I will eat them other than hummus. I think it is a texture thing... I am weird like that.

Eggs are good and I do use them some.

I think I found a couple of solutions today with protein targeted grocery shopping. I was looking at my breakfast and it was pretty lean on protein, my cereal had only 2 gm protein in it. So I went shopping for low fat, high fiber, high protein cereal. I ended up with three boxes that all have at least 8 gm of protein in them per serving. Next I went and swapped out my low fat greek yogurt for fat free, to give some extra wiggle room. I can have an extra serving of yogurt and not throw my fat out of wack on Alli!! emoticon

Lastly, I hit the peanut butter aisle thinking I would get reduced fat peanut butter for toast, smoothies, etc. Instead I found PB2 powder! I had never seen it before, but it is basically dehydrated peanut butter with the oils removed. It is 85% lower fat than regular peanut butter and you mix it with water to use as a spread as needed. I am thinking this could also be used for cooking such as pong pong pork chops I saw on SparkRecipes. I can add it to smoothies! Heck, I could mix it in my cereal if I really wanted (maybe just oatmeal...)

Oh and my family has decided that they do like the quinoa which is a higher protein food, so it will be making regular appearances at the dinner table from now one.

What is done is done. I will not dwell on it. I will move on and learn from my past. I love myself.

I don't add any dairy to my powdered shakes. I do ice and water and sometimes add in some frozen fruit, or PB2.

Protein shakes and powder are going to be a last resort. I am lactose intolerant which makes most shakes difficult for me. I do like smoothies, so I may resort to protein powder in smoothies if I can't get this figured out. Frustrated because the Alli Support group I joined on here is inactive. I can't get into the Alli website groups because I bought the refill instead of the starter pack... I have done this before and didn't need the starter pack... grr.

Have you consider protein shakes? There are a variety of different kind you can get at places even like Wal-mart. I personally love Shakeology from beach body.com, but it is expensive. Also maybe find a lean turkey lunch meat that is low in fat that you can add a couple slices with snacks, etc?
I tend to do all right with protein and bad with everything else.

So I am working really hard at keeping in my calorie range, getting exercise, and I have started taking Alli again. I was looking for a jumpstart to weightloss to keep me motivated. Anyway, on Alli, I am limited to 14 gm of fat per meal and a 14 gm of fat for a snack. I know it says 15 gm, but if I go over 14 gm, I have side effects (been there before and know my body). What the problem I am running into is that I am struggling to get the protein grams I need per day while staying in my calorie/fat ranges. Carbs are fine. Keeping in mind that I am using Greek Yogurt, high protein with a bit more fat, and lean meats to keep fat down. I am going to purchase low fat cheeses next week. Any suggestions on protein sources that are lean? I need to add about 10 grams of protein a day!! I am trying to avoid going with protein powder, because I am trying to my nutrition primarily from natural foods.

What is done is done. I will not dwell on it. I will move on and learn from my past. I love myself.
