Hi everyone! I am a stay-at-home mom with a 1.5 year old :) I am about 170 lbs over weight and live out in the middle of nowhere so I would love some friends to help encourage and motivate each other? emoticon

So recently I have been not doing too well. I am no where as bad at making decisions as I use to be. I am still not making all the best choices. I would really like a buddy with daily check in's to talk about struggles or what we are going through. I am not looking to diet but to make a change for life. Better eating, tracking and logging every day!! Please if you are interested, friend me and email me so we can figure best ways to keep in touch!!!

As you lose weight you can become more depressed because your fat holds toxins and when you are losing weight those toxins are being released causing depression. Our moods affect how we eat. Many times we are not aware of our moods. When this happens we have a tendency to do old behaviors. Many times if we are stressed or depressed we have a tendency to snack.
Detox tea is helpful. So are other foods
"A Healthy Diet for Dealing with Depression" http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrit

It might help you with your snacking. If it does not at least change what you are snacking on to be low calorie.

Today was a weird day for me. Usually I eat every 3-4 hours and have a really good workout. But today I just wasn't hungry and ended up snacking on some banana bread (homemade) from lunch until dinner (more out of boredom than anything). Then I worked out tonight (I kinda of half assed it though...but that's better than not doing anything at all I guess) and then at dinner I was starving and ate almost all my calories for the day in one meal (although I did only go over calories by 3). In the past when I have binged like that though it was on junk and today it was on veggies, two eggs and two potatoes...so it could have been a lot worse!

So glad to see the group picking up here! I thought I would get notifications or something, but didn't. I'll have to be sure to check more often now.

I'm exhausted today and didn't take notes while I was reading everyone's responses (shame on me!) so now can't remember a thing I wanted to say!

But... If no one has told you today... you are beautiful and you matter and have a fantastic day!

You are right that everyone has to do what works best for them. There are many people whom have kids. Some might stay home some might work either way with young kids there is no rest for the weary. This is when you have to become creative. Some may like to take a specific amount of time or set some time out to exercise and that is great. Yet some like me do not have that kind of discipline so they have to fit in whatever they can into their daily routine. Either way everyone has to lose weight in whatever way works for them.

Emundwyler…great suggestions! For me it works best to do my workout all at once, but you're right, that doesn't work for everyone and so finding creative ways to work exercise into your daily routine is awesome!

MissJessica…we all have bad days, so I feel for you!

LifeGenesis….Welcome to the group! I need someone to call me out and not let me hide, so your presence is highly welcome!

As for me…I had trouble sleeping again last night (was up from 2:15 to 6:30am) but got in a hour nap this morning followed by a workout video (I think I'm going to rotate through the five Bob harper Videos I know of and then add in extra cardio throughout my day). This week will be hard as I have a work retreat from Wednesday to Sunday and am not sure when I'll have time to workout and what the food situation will be. So I'm trying to be really good these next few days to make up for whatever may happen. Anyone have any good suggestions about building up will power against eating crappy food and not exercising??!?!?!

I am sorry you are not having a Good day! I have been told it is not good to work out until an hour or more after you wake up. I have also been told it is not good to workout before you go to bed because you will be too awake to get to sleep properly. Personally, I only have so much energy due to chronic pain and I am sure you only have so much energy as well. So When I was working and even now I do not set aside a block of time to workout. I workout through out the day.
I have seen many other weight loss successes do the same thing. One lady replaced her chair with the big rubber exercise ball so that she was working out her core as she worked. She would use the trash to lift weights such as your bench press and other weight lifting exercises. As you cook or prepare your lunch you can do squats. You can be assured no one is paying attention or if even your kids laugh it means it is cool. You can use the door frames and walls to help stretch your arms and legs. You can do Lunges as you clean your room or the Living room.
When I worked I was in a call center so we could do all sorts of exercises through out the day. In the morning and during breaks I would walk sometimes in the hallway and other times around the building. At first I did not walk to fast but after time I was able to walk faster. I would use walls to stretch and bathroom breaks to walk quickly. When I worked at a call center we could have some weights at our desk and use them when we needed to move. Or we could stand up and do some stretching. There are other things as well. These are just a few ideas that can help!

I have reasons (excuses) why I can't do late a night or early in the morning...my day already starts at 4:30 am which means in turn I'm in bed before everyone...or if not by the time they go bed it's super late. Sorry I'm just having a super bad day today and not doing well

Daily check in....last night I sleep great for the first time in days (yeay!) and then we spend the morning cleaning up our house (we have friends coming over for the night) and then since my computer decided to stop working completely for two hours I ended up doing a 40 minute circuit workout I found on pintrest! Right now I am feeling pretty good (first time in weeks I put a number over 5 on my mood scale) but I'm so nervous about tonight because my roommate already bought a bunch of junk food and apparently I have like no will power! This should be interesting!

Also, to add onto the previous message. If you can't get a treadmill cause it's took expensive, try and find an elliptical or recumbent bike. On my first weight lost journey I used each of those for the first several months and lost weight consistently (of course you have to be eating right).

I am the same where I hate working out around people because I feel Awkward. I have found if you have a friend to do the workouts with like a significant other or child they are not going to watching you workout or Jiggle because they will be doing the same thing. However, doing yoga and push-ups are easier when there is no one to distract you from it. I know personally when it comes to working out if it hurts I do not do it. So like push-ups I will start doing it against the wall until I can do the push-ups on a chair, table, or bathtub. The reason I do push-ups on things is because my wrists cannot handle a 90 degree angle so the wall I can put fists against and the other item you are sure to maintain the correct posture and support yourself without your fists having to be at a 90 degrees.
Another good thing if you are like me and cannot work out in the rain and cold weather Investing in even a cheap treadmill is a good thing. The thing is to walk as fast as you can that day because everyday is different. There are cheap treadmills and then there are the ones you drool over. I Drool over the ones that have a whole bunch of features like know your heart rate, has an am/fm radio, has a tv, and more. If I had the money I would buy one. However, if you are broke like me even at 300 pounds I would buy a cheap treadmill for 100 or less, like this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Weslo-CardioStri
de-3.0-Treadmill/22084824#about. Maybe look at goodwill stores or ask a friend if they know anyone who has one to sell. Of course if your like me and prefer a better quality treadmill than the cheap one at Walmart I would look at Craigslist. Craigslist is great for finding a deal on major things you need like furniture and workout machines. Of course if you can afford the more mid-range machines like an older dog from the pound because you like me love the view of the landscape they are great because no one is looking at you jiggle they are looking at machine instead. I personally love the treadmill because I will get up on it and use it, which is annoying because my family thinks I never use the machine and pile crap all over it. Causing me to have to use the other machine. The other machine loves it because she could walk all day long. Also it is nice to have something that loves you unconditionally.

@MissJessica- I thought I was the only one! I don't mind total strangers seeing me but I feel funny jiggling around the living room. Sometimes I do my yoga late at night after everyone else is asleep just so I can do it myself. I don't have any good answers for you but I wanted to commiserate.

I am having a hard time doing anything outside of walking and the 2 things (squats and counter-ups (modified pushups) I can hide in the bathroom and do. I struggle with people (family) watching me work out...I know it sounds silly but I have always been that way. Even cleaning, cant have anyone watching me.

One idea is you can order the drink packets online. However, you do not need the packets. Just drink a glass of water before meal time and eat slowly chew a lot and enjoy the flavor!

Immortal Scarlet...I don't live in the states right now (in fact I live in a very tiny tiny village in South America) so I'm not sure I'll find drinking packets, but THANK YOU because you gave me an idea...maybe I'll try putting fresh lemon juice in my water or limes...that's kind of the same thing right?!

Rebel Angel...It's awesome that you've been so consistent with eating right and drinking water. Even if you just add 15 minutes of walking in the morning and evening to that you'll be getting in more exercise! Anything beats sitting on the couch right?!

Miss Jessica...I'm all for trying to help motivate you. How can we best help "push you"?

As for me, yesterday was my rest day in terms of exercise because I run a children's program in a local village all afternoon and preparation takes all more. Although I didn't get any real/intentional exercise, I did play basketball with the kids for like 20 minutes, so I guess that's something! Unfortunately, I binged a bit last night on this toffee candy we have. They are only like 35 calories a piece but I had like 12 of them...no Bueno! Then last night I had some trouble sleeping again so I was exhausted and spent most of the day in bed. Tonight however I did do Bob Harper's Total Ripped Core Video (with some modifications considering I'm over 125lbs heaver (or more) than all the people in the video (although I really only modified 3 exercises). I don't have a scale right now so I have no idea if I am losing weight and I don't have an HR monitor so I don't know exactly how many calories I am burning....however I'm trying to remind myself daily that this is about becoming healthier and not about numbers so I need to be motivated by other things!

How's everyone else doing?

Looking as well....I have re-joined Spark so to speak after a looooong hiatus. I'm 37 (at times feel single but I am not). I have 2 boys and just need someone to help push me. My time zone is CST if that makes a difference. I am also an early to bed person (even though last night it was 11 before I went to bed) since my alarms start at 4:30 am just to get me to work on time!

I really need to START adding exercise. (I'll be doing home workouts). I've done a month of eating healthier and upping water and have made that a bit of a habit so it's time to move on to the next step.

Well for me, last night I could not sleep (apparently I have to be not too hot and not too cold to get a good nights rest) and only ended up having 5 hours of sleep during the night. Luckily I got in an hour and a half nap this afternoon and when I woke up, I did a kick butt 60 minute workout! What I'm struggling with right now is drinking enough water (it doesn't help that we have to buy drinking water in my village and I share with two other people). Does anyone else struggle with this? Have you found something that helps make drinking 8 glasses a day easier?!

Hi, I'm 31, single and no kids, BUT I'm also looking for a buddy! What if we all joined together and formed a group. Instead of just adding each other as friends (which of course we should do) maybe we could have an accountability forum to encourage and challenge each other! I know I need that!
So what are your goals? Like for me I'm working on exercising 5 times a week for 30 minutes or more, as well as drinking more water and tracking all my food intake daily (I'm not so good at the last one cause I tend to cheat and not write in something I've eaten just because I don't know how many calories are in it).
How can I support you guys? Daily check ins? Creating challenges? Just being a sound board? Let me know...we can do this together!

Anyone is welcome to add me as a friend. I'm just starting out, again, but I really feel like THIS TIME I WILL do it! I'm 36, work full time, school online part time and have 2 children. Keeping motivated and focused will be a challenge I could use help with.

Hi, I'm Carrie. I'm not new to Sparkpeople, but I'm new to the group. I've been on and off over the years (classic yo-yo) but I really need help with the support and motivation piece. I'm 32 and a mother of one. All of my friends are married and honestly don't really live nearby. Although I actually enjoy going to the gym (never thought I would say that), the food piece is a challenge.

I'm hoping for a buddy/motivation partner myself.

I am also looking for a buddy. I am 35 years old and the mother of 5. I was doing well with my weight loss goals until recently.. When lifefor chaotic and i have been doing a lot of emotional eating... I fear I have gained all the weight back that I have lost. I would really like to find a buddy to help keep me focused even when times get tough and I would do the same for them.

I am also looking for motivated people to help with my journey. I live in Florida, and it would be nice to have someone who is going through similar struggles with having a larger amount of weight to lose in order to be healthy and in ideal weight ranges.

Hi! I'm looking for a buddy! I'm a 32yo single working mom with a 3yo son. I would love to have someone that I can check in with so I feel accountable to someone other than myself - because often my own self deceives me and makes me give up. If a friendship forms that would be awesome too! I'm on east coast time and I'm available for texting, email or FB. Please send me a message if you want to buddy up!
