Thanks, Doris and NJ....I am not being as progressive as I want, but I'm not giving up. As for culling and getting things in order, NJ, I am slowly moving in that direction. I lost an old friend this summer and her daughters were horrified at how she had let the house go. As we get older and have so many things to worry about we may not pay as much attention to what's around us. I know I don't see what my husband used to call 'school crap' all over because even though I pick it up and do something with it, the next day I bring MORE home and IT stays on the coffee table or kitchen table as I deal with it! It never ends. I need to be more productive!

Happy long weekend!

mary - I havent moved yet............ but hope to within the next few months. Botth daughters are moving out and so until they get settled Im not making the change. Im guessing right after the first of the year................. but the house is done and now Im furniture shopping.

Its a whole new start for me............................ much needed. Listen to your heart about your own decision to move......... its not wht your kids want - they have their own lives.......... its honestly whats best for you Take the time to decide what is best for you............ for me downsizing was a wonderful thing. The hurricane just expedited what I knew I wanted to do anyway

God bless and keep well.

It's always great to see you here, NJ! How's the move? Are you done? I hope it will be a good thing for you. I have debated so much about my big 2 story house. Two kids are deadest against me moving and the youngest one said he'd help me look for a smaller 1 story....go figure!

Marielle, you're right about all our conflicts. Sooo many wars. We need to get our own country back on track and not take on anyone else's conflicts even though Syria's trouble is just horrible.

Sunny, I know you'll have a great time with the grandson. Wonderful weather will be an added bonus.

I am so proud of myself. Even though I regained my 2 most recently lost pounds (and you have to count the salt on the margarita!!) I had a healthy breakfast and went to a 90 minute water aerobics class. It was the first time I've been since the last week in July. About time!!

We are having a perfect Labor Day weekend weather wise. Warm and SUNNY!

Mary I love chips and guacamole and I had some last night. Up two pounds!!! I am sure it is the salt in the chips.

The little ones take a lot more energy when they cannot get around. Once they can walk it is about playing with them and making sure they don't get into too much trouble. I do think strength training and getting the abs strong help with getting up and down off the floor.

Everyone have a nice weeken

Dear NJJAZZ--
Welcome--I sure agree with you about not getting into any more wars. The US has been involved in at least 30 wars or conflicts since only 1979. (there is a list that starts in 1774, as we were becoming a country, on wikipedia--so many I couldn't count)
Many of the wars and conflicts were reportedly for humanitarian reasons (this new one because it is reported that Syria used biological weapons on its own people)
Humanity still has a long way to come: one day at a time, it starts with each of us sending loving kindness to all humanity!

Wow…Marielle, you seem to have taken on a huge responsibility! Are you paid for this? You’ve done it before, I think, but it really sounds involved. Carve out some time for yourself, okay? We’ll ‘be here’ when you can get here!

Sunny, how’s the babysitting going? I am always a little apprehensive when I babysit my granddaughters because of it just being me. The other grandparents even bring some of the older granddaughters to help and I try to juggle both little ones to the best of my ability. Right now they are pretty content but I’m sure it will get harder once they’re mobile. Maybe my weight loss will kick in then, lol!

Doris, I’m sure the memory quilt will be spectacular and well loved. I’ve never attempted anything like that. I did tell my daughter the other day that when the girls make their 1st Communion I will try to use my wedding dress to make their dresses. She bought some pretty but practical baptismal gowns!

Brenda, you have continued to do so much and continued on a great path for weight loss! I had Teacher Happy Hour last night…10 chips and one Margerita. But my scale says I’ve regained 2 pounds. I go up and down weekly. I had a good week until last night! I hope your BBQ will be fun and that your new neighbor will settle in. I have no Labor Day plans except meeting my partner for breakfast, then off to school to plan the week. I feel like the AFLAC duck, lol.

Off to WW now, but no hopes of happiness….deep sigh!

Mariella sometimes those community groups can really take up all your time. Good luck getting through all your emails and all of the major issues.

Mary I am not sure a count down clock is helpful. I like to use one when I am going on a fun trip but maybe you should do a weekly or monthly countdown. It might make it easier counting a smaller number.

Doris glad your granddaughter is enjoying CA. You will need to come out and visit.

The daughter, SIL and GS are here. I just love it.

Hi everyone, I've been really, really busy--without stop. I went to a water district board meeting on Monday. I agreed to go back on the board and they appointed me. Then between Monday night and Wednesday I got over 70 emails--disseminating information, financial reports, etc., etc. "arguments" back and forth between the people--On Tuesday I was asked if I could do my oath of office so they'd have a quorum for a special Meeting on Friday--I went down on Wednesday and completed the oath, then more emails, phone calls, etc. Friday the meeting went from 9 am til after 11 am. Then home and more phone calls back and forth plus the responsibility fell to me to go to the Management company and complete back-up for end of month for the district which precipitated more phone calls and emails. I will have to go buy flash drives and go out to the managers office with the back up drives on either Saturday or Tuesday--this all to comply with Arizona's new laws regarding off site back up drives (this was decided and put into law back in January?? because of all the disasters lately and the loss of essential records by cities, etc. Whew. Sorry I have not had time to read any posts or anything other than research, study, reading laws, etc.

Hope everyone is doing well. I am hoping things settle down with the direction the district is hoping to go in. Que sera, sera... Anyway I miss reading all your posts but am exhausted.

Hi Everyone!

Our weather has cleared up today and the rest of the long weekend will be sunny and warm. It was just a sudden kind of violent rain storm with lots of thunder and lightening passing through. Several areas of standing water and I saw one tree toppled over blocking one land yesterday.

This morning I went to the meat market and got the burger, then the bread store for buns and finally to Walmart for the rest of the odds and ends so I have my shopping done for the BBQ. It was starting to get crowded when I came home. I really don't like crowds so avoid them as much as I can. I have no plans to go anywhere the rest of the weekend.

I haven't seen Emily since yesterday afternoon, she is on the second floor and I am on the third. I am sure she is enjoying her new place. She was supposed to get her bed delivered yesterday but don't know if it was with the stormy day. She has a blow up mattress and her sleeping bag and I really don't think she is worried about the bed, just grateful to be out of the shelter.

Have a nice Labor Day everyone.

Way to go, Mary!! Now you can relax and enjoy the long weekend.

Our daughter, husband, and son will be coming in tomorrow night so the guys can dove hunt this weekend. I will be enjoying the air conditioning as we visit! It was only 102 today--UGH! Guess we came back from CO too early.

The memory quilt I'm working on from the tee shirts is going very slowly since some of them had raglan sleeves, making it too narrow to fit the pattern. I'm having to be creative to get all the blocks to be the same size. All I can tell my grand daughter is "It was made with love!!" And she's not the type to be critical. By the way, Sunny, she's enjoying her CA experience.

Brenda, is your neighbor settling in now? Hope she gets everything she needs to live comfortably. Your group there really seems to work together nicely on a project like this!!

TGIF....I made it through Week 1 with only 35 or so weeks to go, lol! Maybe I should do a countdown!!

I hope you don't have bad weather this weekend Brenda that would impede anything you'd like to be doing.

Doris, my middle son went to Alaska with my MIL when he got out of high school and he really loved it...although he was probably 40 years younger than almost everyone on board the ship! I always thought it would be a great trip. HOpe it works out for you. The quilt sounds lovely.

Sunny, it sounds like you've done everything you can to babyproof your house. I know my turn will come! Enjoy that sweet baby!

I have very little planned for my long weekend and can't wait to do nothing!

Hi everyone
Brenda you are truly a caring person and I am glad that your neighbor is going to be in a better place.

Getting ready for weekend guests takes time, but getting the house ready for the 18 month old is really a lot of work. Every breakable item at eye level (his) and every household cleaner under a sink or in a closet has to be moved up or stored high. I have bought toys and other things at the second hand children's store. We spend a lot of time outside letting him run and chase balls. We did rent a full size crib, the portable is just too small and I am sure he could climb out.

Should be a busy weekend, at least the weather has turned sunny.

Hi Everyone!

I've been busy this week and never checked my email to see you've been chatting. It sounds like everyone's been busy. It's so nice that you are all helping Emily to get established, Brenda.

Mary, I remember how tired I would be on those first days before things settled into routine at the first of the year. I'm so glad you took the break with your friend at the restaurant.

I'm working on a trip for next summer and have spent what time I had looking up info for that. Yesterday we drove to Dallas (about 2 1/2 hours) to visit my DH's cousin who had just returned from Alaska to see what tips they might have. It sounds as if the 2 ideas of an ideal trip are very different, so we didn't get much new info that would be usable. But it was a nice visit with them. Today I've worked on the memory quilt for my granddaughter. Busy days!!

Take care, Mary, and enjoy the 3 day weekend. Hope everyone has a great Labor Day!

Mary,

The shelters drug test when the women enter but can no longer afford to test them everyday like they used to. The women know that so are "clean" when they move in. They can only stay ten days, then have to move on. There is no "management" there at night so no supervision. It is a shame that grown women don't behave better.

There is a nice women's shelter out of town that we donate money to at Christmas and that one is much better and women and children can stay longer terms and get help finding jobs and getting back on their feet.

It has rained and stormed all day long, on and off. The freeway Northbound is bumper to bumper crawling slow. I don't know what happened but we have been hearing sirens all day long.

Congrats on 2 more pounds gone, Brenda...and especially when you didn't 'do' anything to work for it!! How generous everyone at your place is. I think it's wonderful how everyone pitched in. How did the Methodist shelter let those women do drugs? That's terrible and sounds like a messy situation to be in. Glad Emily is now 'with friends.'

I am breathing a little better now that tomorrow is Friday and it's a 3 day weekend. I propose that for every weekend...think it would work, lol??

Good Morning Everyone,

It's a heavy, steady downpour this morning at almost 11 am. I just rolled out of bed because I didn't sleep much last night. Don't know why. I took a benedryl and that usually puts me right out but it didn't work. Plus I had weird dreams. I hope I don't have another night like that any time soon.

Emily got moved in yesterday afternoon after Sam and Ruth got the apartment cleaned. Jeanette took her back to the women's shelter at the Methodist Church down the street to get her belongings. She was having to carry her shampoos and things with her because the women were stealing her things. Poor thing didn't have much to start with. When they got back I helped unload the car and we stashed everything in the closets because the carpet still needed to be cleaned, which it was later in the day. Jeanette was appalled when she saw how dirty the shelter is and the women doing drugs plus 8 children running around. Jeanette loaned her a blow up bed to use until Love, INC (Love in the Name of Christ) delivers her a bed and TV on Tuesday after the holiday. People donate furniture and bedding to them to be given to the needy. There is another place to go get dishes and nick knacks that I just found out about.

Emily really lucked out when little Eleanor's family came to finish moving her things out to the Nursing Home. They are leaving most of the living room furniture plus all the food and dishes and pots and pans, curtains, you name it. Sam's sister came over with a carload of new pots and pans, a toaster, brand new,, still in the package, sheets. Silverware, an angel food cake pan, blankets, an assortment of frozen meats and foods and homemade stew for dinner. I took her some silverware, various kitchen gadgets, and a pillow, a roll of paper towels, bar of soap and a soap dish, dish drainer. a couple hot pads. Sam gave her some Dawn dish soap. I don't have much left to give away but she will be in like flint. She needs a shower curtain and pancake turner. I'm sure Sam will go out and buy them for her. We all have to keep in contact so we don't get her duplicates. People here are so kind and generous. Faith is giving her towels.

It has been fun going through my things. When I find something I think she might need I put it in a bag and hang it on her door knob. It's the little things that we use everyday and think nothing of it.

When I weighed myself this morning I am down two pounds and don't know how that happened. I have been getting more steps in everyday and watching my calories closer. But yesterday I went over. Go figure............. I'll take what I can get.

Have a good day everyone. I need to find something for brunch because I slept through breakfast.

I'm still hanging in there and heading to Day 4...less stressful now that I was able to access all of my curriculum materials online while waiting for actual delivery. Also, a new church friend asked me to dinner last night and we stayed at a local restaurant for 4 hours---I really needed to get out and unwind. I was up way later than normal but it was worth it.

Sunny, I hope your time with the rambunctious grandson will be wonderful. Have you kept him at your house before? I have had the twins here once but they slept in their carseats and 'played' on a blanket. I don't have toys or other fun Bumbo chairs, swings, etc. I hope I can accumulate things as they get older but I'll have to rearrange my house!

Brenda, how wonderful that all those things have been redistributed for others! That family is very kind. I'm glad all the extra food gets to those who need or want it too. No strike in my future...I only took 2 weeks off when Dave died. I figured they'd find someone else to take my place and I really need to work! We don't have any benefits either. Reason to strike, I guess, but no thought of that. I've only worked in small parochial schools up to now and now a small private school. I hope things will get back to normal where you are soon. Teachers strike every year? I've never heard of that!!

Mary,

No foods here go to waste. Leftovers are put into the refrigerator down in the Community room and they don't last long. People are always raiding it to see what goodies are left.

Barbara's family have been here the last few days cleaning out her apartment. Her daughter left a lot of things in the TV room that others might need here. Potty chair, tub seat, a board for transferring from wheelchair to bed, a walker, various oxygen tubes. The Granddaughter decided to keep the electric wheelchair, just because she is not ready to give it away yet. The Knights of Columbus will take those things to loan out if no one here needs them. They are also leaving two overstuffed chairs for Emily, the new lady who will be moving in here shortly. She couldn't afford to ship all her stuff from PA so she needs everything. They will leave odds and ends for her too.

I just called Sam and reminded her of the Crockpot cooking class here in an hour. She was still asleep. Yesterday she asked me to call her because she doesn't always wake up early. This is the same class I went to at the Food Bank a couple months ago where I got a free crockpot. Everyone will get a cookbook.

All the teachers here are going on strike so who knows when school will start. That is so wrong but they do it every year.

Have a good day everyone. I need to eat something before I go.

The stress of the beginning of school is unbelievable. You are not able to control a lot of what happens to you -- new kids and you never get to off load any of the work. I hope the chaos lessens a bit in the next few weeks.

Getting ready for the grandson to come for 4 days with his parents. Broke down and rented a full size crib. He is an escape artist out of any thing with low sides. The dog is going to the kennel. He does not bother children but the GS likes to chase his own little dog and I am sure mine would not react well

Have a great day

So glad you're home safe and sound, Sunny. Back on track is our repetitive motion, right? I have been up and down for so long and just want to be done with the yo-yoing. This is the year!!

Brenda, it seems like it would make sense with everyone on a restricted income to make sure you have a variety that everyone would like and so nothing would go to waste! But I'm not in charge, lol.

I had an exceptionally busy day yesterday. I was so tired when I got home from my first day of school. I have 5 new children and no info on them. Three are Montessori kids and are used to doing what they want to do when they want to do it. Sooo stressful yesterday. Hot lunches were 30 minutes late so we ate during PE...my break!! All I did last night was talk wit 2 of my sisters and my daughter, eat dinner, and go to bed. Probably a hot bath and early bed tonight, too. I hope to get a grip soon!

Made it home and I am feeling a little tired from the long drive. Left really early in the morning to miss rush hour traffic in Los Angeles. Going to sleep in tomorrow but also get back on track. Gained a few pounds because it is hard to chase an 18 month old and not take a nap with him. Didn't get in my regular exercise and it really shows up on the scale.

Mary,

No, they never sign up for the Sunday potluck as to what they are bringing but they will for the holiday potlucks. No rhyme or reason. One time they only had desserts and no main dishes. That was before my time. It doesn't always work out with the sign up sheet anyway because most here don't read the list and just make what they want. Or they don't know what they will bring. Only 14 came today. Barbara's family are here cleaning out her apartment so we invited them to eat with us and gave them some fresh veggies out of the garden. The granddaughter's baby is due at any minute, a little girl. She is supposed to be doing bed rest but doesn't have time. She just got married on Friday. This wedding was planned long before Barbara passed and she wanted to wait but they went ahead with the wedding anyway. She got told that grandma would want her to go ahead with it. They are a really cute couple.

You're so right Brenda, and you have a fabulous attitude. Does anyone ever sign up for what they're bringing to the potluck dinners? It would seem that with a little preparation it would be more rounded out!!

Mary,

I can't keep anything for 'just in case' because my apartment is only 550 sq feet so any time I get something new, the old goes out. The bigger the residence, the more we can keep.

I don't know how they expect you to teach the children without all the tools that you need and don't have on hand. There is something wrong with that picture. I hope you get your delivery soon.

Our potluck was good but not a l lot of variety, not many came today. We had four bowls of watermelon and two plates of canteloupe, some cold fried chicken, a zuchinni casserole, apple /raisin/carrot salad, sausage and sourkraut with apples, sugarless apple pie and a sugarless chocolate cake with sugarless frosting (that was interesting).

Sunny,

Have a safe trip home.

Have a good rest of the day everyone.

Oh, Doris, happy birthday! I hope your dinner out was great. My birthday is the day after Christmas. For years it was NOT a good day since I spent it picking up the Christmas ‘leavings’ and/or taking things back to the mall that no one liked. A friend finally told me to do only what I wanted on that day. I started telling my husband that I wanted to go out to dinner and told the kids I wanted peace and harmony! For the most part, that worked! I hope you get the interfacing for the quilt, too. A memory quilt sounds lovely.

Sunny, being with your grandson must really be special when he runs to you! My granddaughters do smile and laugh when they see me and/or I talk to them. But whether or not they ‘know’ me is questionable. I wear the same perfume all the time and I hope that will make a point to them, too.

Brenda, hooray for the new recliner and for friends who helped with it. You are SO good about getting right of things when you have a replacement. I still keep things for ‘just in case.’ I need to let go of more possessions. My Austin son has a Toshiba computer and it is old but still mostly fine. My new one is another HP with Windows 8, which I don’t like. I find it hard to do easy normal things---you jump through hoops to print, etc. I have multiple computer issues with this one and get kicked off the internet so often. It doesn’t seem to bother my iPad or computers others are using around me so I think it’s settings for this particular computer. Problem is that I don’t know what to do when that happens!

Marielle, I hope you rested up, lol. My daughter had a Dell computer and liked it but it wore out. I’m sure your DD did panic when the computer wouldn’t work. I’m the same way. SOOO much to do and never enough time, but to be w/o the computer during work time is a huge issue.

I think teachers and nurses have a high incidence of bladder problems since you’re restricted to ‘break times’ instead of going when you need to. One of the hard facts! I don’t drink much water at work either because of that…again, not a good thing. I had my parent teacher conferences on Friday and 2 moms want only ‘positive’ comments, not ‘minus whatever’ for their children’s grades. It will be an interesting year, lol. I’ve been working on school work for hours now. I have gone through the online interactive components to the new curriculum. We don’t have the workbooks, handwriting, spelling, etc. nor do we have little individual readers. It will make the start of school so hard trying to fill in the blanks and cover what needs to be done. I hope UPS will deliver! What can Brown do for ME??

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

The other option to turning 71 is not attractive, so I'll consider myself very blessed to have good health at 71!!

I was 71 last April and don't know how that happened either. I think from now on I will lie about my age. I told someone I didn't want to be 71 and they said if I didn't turn 71 I would be dead. LOL

I bought myself my laptop for my birthday.

Enjoy the day. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good morning all!

Today is my birthday-71, no less!! Yikes--how did that happen? I don't guess we're doing anything other than going out to eat to celebrate, although I think I'll treat myself to a trip to Walmart for Pellon to fuse the quilt for some stability to the tee shirt fabric. I read on the internet that they work better if fused.

The memory quilt for that mother who lost her kids was a neat idea, and I would think she really appreciated having it for pleasant memories. That would be a very tough loss.

Mary, you may have to schedule potty breaks where someone watches your kids to prevent problems. Surely ADA covers that, too!! lol

The new chair sounds great Brenda. I actually enjoy rockers better than recliners, although mine does both.

Happy Saturday to all!!

Good Morning Everyone,

Here I am up at 4:30 this morning because I can't sleep anymore. It's going to be a warmer day and we may get a little rain this weekend. We need some rain to put out the fires burning. Right now we just have one on our side of the mountains around Leavenworth, a quaint Bavarian town that is a huge tourist attraction. It hasn't reached the town so far. The one's burning in Eastern Washington are somewhat under control but they won't really be out until it rains. They don't get as much rain as we do.

Yesterday I went to Recliner Land and bought a new swivel rocker for my living room. It is chocolate brown and is bigger than I thought. They are having a clearance sale so I got it for $288. They put it in my Jeep. Between Jill in the office and Janise (a resident who manned the cart), we got it into my apartment after much tugging and pushing. It didn't look that big in the show room but I rearranged and found a good spot for it. My little old rocker I bought for $5 had to go so I gave it to one of the caregivers here. She is having a baby next May so she will be able to rock the baby.

Mary,

It's no wonder you have bladder problems, not being able to go to the restroom when you need to. That just isn't healthy. I remember how hard it was on me when I was driving my catering truck all over the industrial area for ten years selling food to workers. I knew where every bathroom/sana-can was. LoL

You have a extremely hard job and I applaud you for doing what you are doing for little pay. I know you love the children and tolerate the parents.

Marielle,

The birthday party sounds like it was a lot of fun for the boys. You are making wonderful memories for them. I hope your daughter gets a new computer soon so you can have your laptop back. I wouldn't like sharing mine.

I bought a Toshiba with Windows 8 and I love it. My old HP X-P is still working but it is slow after having it for about 6 years............ I was having so much trouble with it freezing up and being so slow that I bought the new one for my birthday. I actually wanted another HP but the Tech at Staples told me all computers are the same inside, you are just paying for the name.

Sunny,

You are brave driving all that way to take care of your grandson. Your daughter is very lucky you are able/willing to drive all that way. Why can't they bring him to you?

Doris,

I didn't know you could make a quilt out of T shirts. That is a great idea. My friend made a memory quilt for a lady who's daughter and fiance' was killed in a car accident two weeks before their wedding. I saw the finished quilt and it is beautiful, made out of the daughter's clothing and Army uniform.

Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone

It is clear that boys just come with more energy and it doesn't ever leave.Mariella you really had a houseful. They do seem to cluster together don't they.

My little one ran into my arms yesterday when he came home from daycare and gave me a nice long cuddle and then ran around. This morning he gave me a big hug when he got up.I think he knows how to wrap me around his little finger. He is just a lot of fun.

I increased my walking program from 2 miles to 5 miles a day and added in strength training. It has really helped my stamina which is a good thing.

He is asleep, the parents are settled into a hotel and I getting ready to turn in.

Everyone have a great day

Mary and Doris--I have a Dell CPU which replaced one I had a long time ago. I'm very satisfied with my Dell. My daughter has had a lot of laptops and they seem to wear out so fast. I think I'm going on 5 or 6 years with this one. I did have my computer guy upgrade the microsoft programs from Vista to Microsoft 7 but the operating system is still Vista. Anyway--Doris, your Dell should work really well!!

My daughter's computer went out--and I am letting her use mine to do her final project today--so am having withdrawal symptoms (haha). She has a couple more responses to do tomorrow and then starts a new class on Sunday. We had a panic city for a short time while she started getting into her project.

Have a great day all!!

Wow, Marielle...YOUR busy trumps MY busy, LoL!! I am tired just from reading all you got done in one day. Hats off to you. I hope the boys left your little house intact!

Doris, a new computer...hope it's reliable! No one else seems to have problems like I do...one of these days I will take it back to Office Depot and get them to do a check...it's free, so they say, and I have a 2 yr. warranty.

I had a very busy Parent Teacher Conference day. But it was good. I have loads of work to do this weekend but I think I'll be prepared by Monday. I'll let you know!

Hi! to all

MARIELLE, you certainly had a busy day!! You probably burned more calories than you consumed.

Mary, hope your Friday went well and that you get at least one rest day over the weekend. You have really been busy.

Sunny, lifting your grandson should count as strength training and be a lot more fun!!

Reeney, try setting some small goals you can do each day to give yourself a little pat on the back for accomplishing them. It could be as simple as "Drink 8 cups of water" or "Eat 5 fruits or veggies each day". When I load up with water and freggies, I'm less tempted by the other things like ice cream, cookies, etc.

My new computer came in while I was gone and now it's set up and finally I'm getting to enjoy using it. It really makes a difference in the speed and screen view.

Today I started cutting the tee shirts my grand daughter collected while in college to make a memory quilt for her. It may prove to be a challenge since there's so many sizes of logos, but I bet I find a way to get it all coordinated. And I know she will appreciate it!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Good morning everyone,
I had a very busy day yesterday. It was my grandson's birthday. He turned 11. My daughter did icecream sundaes at his school for his and his brother's class. I drove the ice cream and fixings over to the school for her (left about 11:45), picked up the Baskin Robbins ice cream cake, drove back to the school and picked everything up, took it all home & found places in the freezers for them. Then I went back and picked the boys and two friends up at school at 3:15. It was chaos from then on. Boys do not stop with having energy. At about 5-5:30 another friend came over, my daughter came home from work, my other daughter stayed with the boys while "mom", my oldest grandson, and I went and picked up Chinese food (Panda Express) for everyone and soft drinks from the grocery store. Another friend showed up while we were gone (that makes 6 boys in my tiny house). Then we fed everyone. I watched my dog as much as possible (a lab), kept him in my room so he wouldn't get so stressed and excited that he would start running through the house and inadvertently hurt someone. I did eat, but everything was so chaotic that I wasn't even tempted to have seconds or overeat (that was a good thing!). Then helped my daughter with homework (she had to come up with 3 questions about moral/ethics to turn in which would relate to her final project for the class--so we tossed around all the questions and she came up with her final 3 and posted them.) Then we served cake to the boys at 8pm. Then at 9 she took them home. I was exhausted. But I slept really well last night. I had a piece of cake (only one and not too much). I did go over my Spark calorie range by about 200 calories, but ya know what, I am really okay with that given it was a birthday "celebration".

Mary sounds like you are getting back into the swing of the new school year and VERY BUSY. Keep up the great work.

Sunny, you sound like a pretty great grandma. Bet you had fun even if it was probably tiring.

Doris, hope your vacation was great. 15 hours is a long time to drive--our own beds are wonderful to come back to.

Reeney, just hang in there--and don't think of it as a diet, just eating a little less and moving a little more. We all want it right now. I've been struggling for a long time- Went to Weight Watchers--lost down to within 5 pounds of goal (35 pounds) and then started going back up, got discouraged, stopped going to WW and then I found Spark people. I am working on this being my life not my diet. Sweets: ice cream, cake, candy, cookies are my downfall--so eventually I am looking to gain control of my addiction and eat that stuff "with moderation".

Everyone have a great day.

Good Friday morning to everyone! These conferences are something new. They come on the heels of everyone coming to school yesterday for the Meet and Greet! I had every parent and child show up but no downtime. Some parents came a couple of hours early since they had younger children and didn't want to return a few hours later. I don't blame them, but it made for a very long day on my feet without a break. I finally told one mom who stayed for 45 minutes doing nothing but letting her child roam around my room that I really needed a potty break. I walked out the door and there was a man in the girl's bathroom fixing the door. AND the principal waved me down saying I had 3 new families who were coming in at that moment! So tired, and here we go again today!

I hope your vacation was great, Doris! You've been quite a traveler this summer.

Enjoy the time with your little grandson, Sunny. I'll bet you're really getting an extra workout chasing him around!

TGIF....I think!

Mary what a schedule. You really don't have any time for yourself do you.

Doris glad that you had a nice time but I understand that being back in your own bed is the best part of traveling.

In Phoenix for 4 days taking care of the grandson. He is really cute but very active. I have been increasing my walking distance, doing more intervals and doing more strength training videos. I can tell I am stronger, which is good.

Everyone have a great evening

Hi, girls. I had a full day of meetings at school followed by a funeral visitation of an old principal....91! I have a lot of school work and Meet and Greet tomorrow, followed by parent teacher conferences every 15 minutes from 8-1 on Friday. Where's my Calgon, lol?

Reneey, I tried to send you a Sparkmail back and hit some button, obliterating my post. I'm glad to see you've posted to the group. I am NOT a very good Spark Example. I yo-yo'd between the sane 5 pounds for 5 years before rejoining Weight Watchers last summer. I've only lost 20 pounds in a year but I have dropped 2 dress sizes and feel much better. Pick one or two things that sound 'doable' to you and try that for a couple of weeks, like drinking 6-8 glasses of water and making sure you have a healthy breakfast. Then add exercise and tracking your food, for example. It's a journey, not a destination!

Reenee,

Track your food, every bite, so you can see how much you are actually eating. Eyeballing portions doesn't really work. You have to weigh and measure everything. Eventually you will just know your portions.

Posting daily, or as often as you have time, is a great motivator to make you accountable but in the end, it is you that counts. Not what others think. This is your journey to making healthy choices, not dieting.

Post your weight. We don't judge anyone here as we are all in the same boat.

Have a good day.

Reeney2, welcome. I just know that in the end I can only be accountable to myself, that it is important that I don't lie to myself about what I've eaten and how much I've exercised. Spark People takes out the "people pleaser" aspect of my life that I have unfortunately grown up with. I do a lot of self reflection. I still haven't lost weight, or been able to stop eating the things I am addicted to (sugar), but I am exercising more. I also decided that I'm never going back on a diet again, but am trying to just focus on eating as healthy as I can at this moment in time. Hope that helps some. emoticon

Mary, wonderful news!! So glad it's not the big C. And you're so right--getting old is not for wimps!!

Sunny, it's great to hear your mom is still so active. Three miles daily on a regular basis is quite an achievement for a 90 year old. Assisted living allowed my mom to have several good years with new friends she met there. They cleaned for her, and a special aid was paid by her to help with her shower. Three meals per day were served in the dining room with the residents choosing their tables with friends, usually the same each meal. It was so much better than her living alone, especially when she fell several times and could use the call button to get help.

We left CO this morning at 3:40 and arrived home 15 hours later. It was a hard day of driving, but we're glad to be sleeping tonight in our own bed with no driving tomorrow.

Good night!!

Thanks so much for the good wishes and kind thoughts ,everyone. I am very relieved and thankful it's not cancer!

Sunny, my mother is 92 and is in assisted living...by choice. The independent living arrangement was one where she WOULD do her own cooking and cleaning, as well as laundry. She hated to leave her house but once Daddy was in the Alzheimer care unit the house was too big and too hard to handle alone. she didn't want anyone living with her, even to help. She's so resilient and has done very well. I hope your mom will be okay. it's so hard to watch our parents go downhill....and we're next!!

School was more meetings but I got a little more done in my room. We still don't have all the components to our new curriculum so I'm planning with old materials, running many copies of activities. We'll start school without a true game plan and I hate that! But we don't have control over the company that SOLD US all this stuff and can't deliver!!!

All in good time...and with the help of my friends.

Today: I pray to shift the way I approach life, to move deliberately and consciously, to become attentive.

At some point you realize that life is just that: life. Ups, downs, good, bad, it's all just life. It all balances out, and letting every little bump in the road sideline you is no way to live.
