Pamela- You can guarantee I'll have plenty of photos of any and all grandkids someday!!
DH is out trimming our crab apple trees that line the drive. We keep having to duck when we get in the car.
I took DD and my DM to shop for outfits for DS's wedding. everyone got what they wanted. So I was glad. DD still needs to find shoes but I"m sure she can do that in the next 2 weeks. Dodger is snoring beside me on the couch. Poor thing...
I'm stiff from my race yesterday. In today's paper I was actually listed as being 3rd in my age division. Pretty cool. I never win anything!
Jinx our cat, is better. Didn't mention but about 2 weeks ago he got into a fight during the night with a neighbor cat and tore up his back leg. He's been on antibiotics and limping around yeowling to get outside.
Nice day today, just cloudy but at least the sun is out and the rain stayed away.
RW- cute joke, thanks for sharing.
Hope everyone had a nice Sunday. take care

ZsaZsa- what a sweet story about your student. Must be fun to see all the progress she's made though.
bonnie- what kind of rash do you have? do you have poison ivy? Not fun. I slept in today too till 6:30AM. I know I know. But I usually am up at 4:30 so yes that actually is sleeping in.
DD, my DM and I are going shopping today. need to find their dresses for my DS's wedding which is in just a couple weeks!! Thank goodness I don't have to get a dress though. I am ready!
Beautiful day here in Iowa. Little late but better late than never. It was suppose to be like this yesterday for my race.... But at least it was cool yesterday so that did help.
Church starts earlier today with summer hours so guess I best go eat breakfast and get ready. Hope everyone has a great day. OH Pamela enjoy baby Soren today. I'm soooo jealous!!

Pecans in the Cemetery

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree
just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a
bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began
dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for
me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the
fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he
passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He
slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you,
one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was,
so he jumped back on his bike and rode off.

Now just around the bend he met an old man with a cane,
hobbling along. "Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe
what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing
up the souls."

The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to
walk." When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled to the
cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for
me. One for you, one for me..." The old man whispered, "Boy,
you've been tellin' the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord."
Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence yet were still
unable to see anything.

The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the
fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.
At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. That's all.. Now let's
go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done."

They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes
ahead of the boy on the bike!

Sounds as though you had a really good day. Glad you were able to enjoy the kids. The story about little girl from Pakistan really makes one stop and think about all of the "Normal" things that we just take for granted. One of my all time favorite TV sitcoms starred John Lithgow, Jane Curtin, French Stuart, can't remember the names of the others, but it was called "Third Rock from the Sun". I suspect that many of you have also seen it. I have always said that the first 6 months of that show were just genius. It was great fun to see and consider the reaction of "strangers" to all of our customs and ways.

DIANA

Congratulations on your placing in the race. You did great! Good for you and your daughter.

I slept in this morning until 10:15am. so now, of course, I am not tired!

Ran a couple of errands and stopped at the Y to do a small workout. DR Mike told me to be sure to NOT sweat as that would be really bad on my rash. Did 6 minutes on the stationary bike, and 5 on the treadmill with lots of stretching over the ball in between. At least I feel as though I am able to get started again. My back is really feeling so much better. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Well, I did use the baking soda and added cornstarch to make a paste this evening and, as I knew it would, it helped. Sat around for several hours with it on, showered it off and put on the Cortaid. Not nearly so itchy. It was itching really badly today, so that is a relief. Still very bunpy and angry red, but at least it feels better!

Have a good Sunday all!

Dianna, you're a tiger (as my late dad would have said)! After a seven mile run you still have energy to go out for dinner? Awesome!

I spent my day puttering around the house for part of the morning and then I went to school for "Spring Fest". It was a first annual event put on by the parent council at my school. It was fun to see the kids in a totally way, interacting with their parents. One little girl from my class (first grade students) only arrived here in Canada from Pakistan just 2 months ago. She spotted me and ran over to greet me. She said, "Oh teacher, I thought you weren't going to come outside." as she pointed at our classroom window. The sweet thing thought I lived in there and just was NOT coming out to play! How cute is that? Her English is coming right along as she has been tutored by an aunt who already spoke English. She is still mystified by some of our strange customs. After our first fire drill after her arrival, she came to me and tugged at my arm and asked, "teacher, what was that? what was that?", as she pointed towards the door of the classroom. When the firebell rang, the students all lined up at the door and we instantly file out (silently of course!) amd we lined up outside a safe distance away where I did attendance. The rest of the school was all outside as well. The all clear bell was rung and we all went back inside and went back to our work. How strange it must have seemed to her! I guess they don't have fire drill in Pakistan. She must have thought we had lost our marbles!!!

Anyway, it was a fun day and I ended my afternoon with 3 hours of school work and a nice barbequed dinner.
Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow! Until then....

Hi all! Well yes I did finish the race and so did DD. 7 miles through the flooded area from last year. Was sad to see homes still not habitated. Many many will just be knocked down. What a mess. I got 3rd in my age division 55- 59 which is kind of cool actually. My pace for the race was 9:36 min miles for 7 miles. I surprised myself. I'm tired tonight though. I will post photos later. Was excited that DD finished and didn't walk. She was worried she'd have to walk. I beat her though!! LOL
DH waiting we are going out for supper to celebrate!

BRENDA

Thanks for the very funny joke, and the interesting article.

MARYAM

Yours was pretty funny too. Just goes to show how we don't think before we speak!

GERI

Hope you daughter does not sulk too much, and you can enjoy your time together and the satisfaction of getting something accomplished! Good luck!

MICK

Hope you enjoy your beautiful day! I know you will be working hard, but it sounds as though lots of good people will be helping! Have fun!

DIANNA

Hope your race went well. I am sure you did great! I think you did great just to be able to run!

PAMELA

Congrats on ths slow weight loss, it is more likely to stay off that way!

Enjoy that beautiful baby!

LUCCA

Congrats on your daughters' accomplishments, I know you are so proud of them. I am sure it is a very bittersweet time for you, maybe you could go to see them! That would make a beautiful vacation!

RISUMCQ

Congrats on your body fat level, and your weight loss. Good for you!

ZSA ZSA

Hope you really enjoyed your dinner last night! Not too fun to wait for someone when you are so hungry!

BRENDA

Thanks for the reminder of the baking soda. I will have to give that a try.

Actually, my back is a million times better than it was last week at this time. I am so glad that I decided to be agressive with the treatment, and that I have such caring Dr's that they will help me when I need it. I have an appointment with Dr Wentz for another injection next Friday if needed. I will continue to see Dr Mike for adjustments, so I should be in good shape for my vacation!

Thank you all so much for your good wishes and concerns. It is very soothing to hear.

My friend Nancy is here from Dallas and we had a lovely evening last night, dinner and sitting on the porch at my house. Her father lives here, he is 97 years old, and he is not going to be with us much longer. She is feeling so blessed to be able to see him, she is a teacher, so she will be able to spend a long time here this summer. We are going to do something today.

Rosie had a terrible week. Laurie, her sister, just called me a little while ago to tell me they were at breakfast at a restaurant, and then Rosie wanted to go to the farmer's market, and then Walmart. When she has a fairly good day, she wants to get out. I doubt if she will make all of those things, and she will be very tired when done, but if it gives her some joy, good thing.

Have a beautiful weekend all!

Bonnie

Hi, Bgal -- Thanks for posting this from AARP mag -- I think this guy has a book out, too.

If it's the same one I picked up in the store, I think the main message (as you point out!) is: "Take it away." Sigh.

I definitely think there is something to the notion of retraining your brain to find other sources of pleasure!
Kathleen

To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking. - A. DeMille

No matter what youre feeling, the only way to get a difficult feeling to go away is simply to love yourself for it. If you think youre stupid, then love yourself for feeling that way. Its a paradox, but it works. To heal, you must be the first one to shine the light of compassion on any areas within you that you feel are unacceptab

I just found this article in my AARP newsletter so I'm shareing it with you. I think it is very interesting but don't know how true it is.

Ever wonder why you cant eat just one potato chip? A single slice of pizza? How about a solitary bite of cheesecake or a lone chicken wing? David A. Kessler, 57, a Harvard-trained doctor, lawyer, former Yale Medical School dean and one-time commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, believes he has found the answer.

Regular exposure to palatable foods rich in salt, sugar and fat can change the way our brains work, Kessler says in his new book, The End of Overeating (see book excerpt). Famous for taking on Big Tobacco and mandating nutrition labels on grocery-store food, Kessler spent the past seven years interviewing physicians, scientists and food industry executivesand uncovered a vicious cycle. Humans are naturally wired to focus on the greatest stimulation in their environment. And when it comes to food, dishes high in fat, salt and sugarthe ones so popular on the American food-scapefit the description.

The thought of such foods travels straight to the reward center of the brain, releasing dopamine, the chemical associated with pleasure. Eating foods you crave releases other chemicals, opioids, which provide emotional satisfaction. Over time, these neural pathways are strengthened, and soon enough the whiff, even the mention, of a favorite food sets the cycle in motion. Suddenly, its a habitwe dont know when to stopsomething Kessler calls conditioned hypereating. Its an addiction, and as with all addictions, we want, even need, more of our favorite foods to gain the same satisfaction. Give someone a bag of chips, and soon, voila! The bag is empty, proving the slogan Betcha cant eat just one.

Q. You write that the giant food corporations and chain restaurantsBig Food, as you call itare aware of this cycle and use chemicals and fake food products to create alluring fatty, salty, sweet dishes.

A. They know sugar, fat and salt stimulate. They know people will come back for more of these kinds of foods. Now we know the neuroscience behind it.

Q. Is this book a way to get the ball rolling to regulate the industry?

A. My goal is to change the way Americans look at foodto get to the point where you know that what youre eating is layered and loaded. Pick any appetizer in an American restaurant. Take Buffalo wings. The fatty part of the chicken is deep-fried in the manufacturing plant and fried again in the restaurant. The red sauce is sugar and fat and the cream sauce is fat and salt. So Buffalo wings are fat on fat on fat on sugar on fat and salt.

Q. Do you believe this kind of awareness will help Americas collective weight problem?

A. If you know your chicken is being bathed in sugar and fat and salt, and you know it has as many calories as a plate of nachos, and you know its only going to stimulate you to eat more, thats a place to start.

Q. So Big Food is the culprit here?

A. The business plans of major food companies have been sugar, fat, salt on every corner, distributed everywhere to eat at any time. But weve also made eating acceptable everywhere, at all times. Social norms are very important.

Now we know that our brains are being stimulatedby sugar, fat and saltand reacting excessively. Up until now, no one had explained that. We hadnt explained that its more than just a willpower issue. But just because your brain is being activated and stimulated doesnt mean you cant do something about it.

Q. OK, then how do we recognize if food is controlling us?

A. Ask yourself: Do I have a hard time resisting highly palatable foods that are high in fat, sugar or salt? Do I rarely feel full? Once I start eating, do I have a hard time stopping? Do I think about food? You will tell me right away if you have one of those characteristics. Either you instantly say, Yes, thats me, or No, I have no idea what youre talking about, or I have some of it.

Theres a small percentage of peopleabout 15 percent of the American population, I estimatefor whom food is not a very salient stimuli. If they could, theyd take food in a pill. But a vast majority of us have at least some of the characteristics of conditioned hypereating.

Q. In what way does conditioned hypereating function like a drug addiction?

A. The circuits are the same. How those circuits get stimulated is different. Drugs can enter intravenously through the bloodstream or the GI [gastrointestinal] track. But with food, stimuli enter in more of a sensory route. Wiring from our senses stimulates those reward pathways. So, yes, there are commonalities in the pathways that drive both behaviors that are driven by conditioning.

Q. So an overeater is going to have just as hard a time correcting behavior as a drug addict would?

A. When behavior is driven, its also highly motivated. And when its highly motivated, its very hard to stop. Thats true for any stimulating substances.

Q. Dont we know from the mass media or instinctively that too much sugary, salty, fatty food isnt good for us?

A. But that only makes it worse. If youre in this cycle, youre cued by foods like this. They grab your attention and focus you. Whats your favorite food?

Q. Pizza. Thin crust. Crispy.

A. So theres a pizza right in front of you, right now. Its hot, thin-crusted, very crispy. Its perfect. Its talking to you. That pizza is there, youre smelling it and youre doing this interview. So are you thinking about the next question or are you thinking about the pizza?

Q. Pizza.

A. Right. Youre having an inner dialogue. Boy, that smells great. But I shouldnt have that. Boy, that would make me feel good. But it has X number of calories. Once you enter that inner dialogue, you only amplify the reward value of the food. Thats when obsession starts. If its sitting in front of you and you cant have it, you only want it more.

Q. What about good old-fashioned willpower and going on a diet?

A. People dont want to hear this, but diets dont work. If you have that old circuitry laid down, that old learning, sure, you can decrease your food intake and lose weight for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days. But if you have that old neural circuitry and go back into your environment, youre constantly bombarded with old cues. Of course youre going to gain the weight back.

Q. Then how do we break the cycle? How can I stop from eating pizza when I know its available everywhere I turn?

A. Once you know that this overeating is due to this overstimulation of your brains, you can protect yourself. But once you get stimulated and youre conditioned to hypereating, if you start eating, forget it. Long term the best way to stop hypereating is to eat in a planned and organized way. If you know what youre going to eat and you want it, youre not going to view it as deprivation.

Q. That requires lots of planning.

A. Yes. But the ultimate way to calm down a stimulusand the hardestis to change the valence. In other words, you change how you perceive the product. We did this with tobacco.

Q. How so?

A. Tobacco used to have a positive valence. Nicotine itself is reinforcing. Then, you add the swirling smoke, the crinkling of the cellophane, the color of the package, the image of the cowboy smoking. The idea that smoking is going to make you feel better, that its going to make you look cool and relieve your stress. What do you end up with? You end up with a highly addictive product. So we changed how people viewed itwe changed the valence from positive to negative. We didnt change the product.

Q. How big a problem is overeating for our collective waistlines?

A. It used to be youd gain a few pounds between ages 20 and 40. Then, it leveled off and youd decrease weight in your 60s and 70s. But now weight over a lifetime continues to rise until youre over 50. People are also entering their 20s much heavier than we did 20 or 30 years ago. We dont know where this is heading. Weight is really instrumental, certainly, when it comes to cardiovascular disease, stroke and certain forms of cancer.

Q. Do those over 50 still have time to combat long-standing neural pathways and conditioned overeating?

A. No matter what age you are, if you think of sugar, fat, salt as something you want, theres nothing I can do to change that. But if you come to view something as more important than sugar, fat, salt if you want something more, then you can change your behavior. You need to be careful because things get accentuated in older life. You see the consequences of excess weight on mobility. You see cardio and medical conditions playing out in older age. I think the stakes are very great in the older years.

Q. Chocolate chip cookies and dumplings were once your weakness. How did you change?

A. Now when I walk in a food court at the airport, theres a cartoon in my head. Instead of the names on the stand, I look at it and say, This one is fat and salt, this one is fat and sugar, this one is fat and sugar and salt. I also ask if its really going to fill me up.

As for the cookies, I had to establish a rule. I have to say, Take them away.

emoticon Good Morning All, Kind of yucky here this morning but hopefully will be nicer later on. No appts. for today so I am going to enlist the help of my DD who, unbeknownst to her, has the pleasure of my company ALL day due to her breaking some rules last night. There are some clean out the junk areas here that are overdue and many hands make lighter work so her hands will be busy!
I hope it has been a good week for you all and that the coming week will be better! Summer is almost here and while I am still not where I want to be, the bootcamp (that I am still doing) and using the daily differential are helping me inch downward. Things are firmer and look a bit better, but the poundage is quite stubborn (funny how as each year passes the stubborness increases!- kind of like a crabby old person)
Well, need to get going so make it the best day you can! emoticon

Good morning everyone,

Maryam--that was a funny reply to the pharmacist. LOL

My friend stopped by last night to visit and I told her the Purina joke and she almost fell off the chair laughing. That's the funniest joke I have heard for quite a long time. I'm glad you all enjoyed it. 'Laughter is the Best Medicine'.

It's cloudy again this morning, 54` at 8 AM.

LUCCA, this is just another chapter in your life. I know you are very proud of their accomplishements.

Lolly, my thoughts and prayers continue to be with you for a speedy recovery. You will be out and about before you know it. Just take it one day at a time as this, too, shall pass.

I walked the halls and counted the apartments here. There are 150. My friend thinks there are 300 because we have three floors and the third floor numbers are in the 300's. emoticon I told her to go count them herself if she doesn't believe me.

I have no plans for the day. I will just go with the flow. Enjoy the weekend.

Beautiful Saturday morning here in Minnesota! Can't wait to get out and about. Although that will entail me painting stalls today or help with putting up the rest of our 3-rail fence. But it will be outside!!!

Brenda - LOVED THE JOKE. Hilarious.

Bonnie - so sorry your feeling bad. I hope they can get all of the issues sorted out and you get to being your old self soon.

Pamela - congrats on losing weight!

Lucca - what wonderful news about your daughter! I know you'll miss her, but like you said, you have something to look forward to in a couple years. Enjoy the celebrations.

Susie - good for you!!! I just bought fat clothes, so I am totally jealous of you! But you give me inspirationa and I need a kick in the rear. Enjoy your shopping!

Lolly - my dear friend.........how are you doing? I was so glad to see your post. I can't imagine the pain, so I am glad they have gotten that figured out. So you sit in bed and this machine runs all the time? Will this machine go home with you or what? I am confused. And how long will you be in the hospital?? I have you in my thoughts dear.

Ok, off to get some food in the crockpot, whip up some snacks and a dessert all for my hearty helpers that will be here today helping us finish up this certain fence area.

Love to you all and enjoy the day!

Namaste,
Mick

Good morning friends!

Good morning! The weather is gorgeous here today - have lots of errands to run and then about 5 hours of work that I brought home (hoping to do that outdoors on the deck though!) and then I'm off to Cleveland tomorrow to see baby Soren (oh yeah, his mommy and daddy too-lol!)

Just wanted to report that I have actually been losing a bit of weight - haven't really been trying but thankfully it has been coming off in small amounts for the past 3 weeks. Just think - if I actually worked out and watched what I ate more, it might really come off! Won't change my ticker until Wednesday though.

Good morning

Brenda

you made me laugh very hard that was too funny and something I could do too when people ask stupid questions. Like at the pharmacy, he asked if I keep my medicine in my flat, of cause I told him "no I keep it on the balcony" the other costumers found that very funny.

Lucca- Congrats on DD#2. Is always wonderful to see the kids at that stage in life. So what will she get her masters in? Why do they go to the Netherlands? Will be nice for them to be together though.
It rained all night here but it is clearing. I really didn't want to run my race in the rain this morning, especially the FLOOD RUN! WIsh me luck. I'm a little nervous as usual. Not sure why I get so worried, no one cares how fast I run but me.
Kathryn - enjoy your awesome vacation. Will be anxious to see the photos.
Have a great Saturday all

Ah, I just finished reading up on all the news. I'm so happy to hear that Lolly is doing well except those momentary medication lapses where the pain took over. I remember mine- I begged them to kill me on several occasions but instead they brought in the hospital's pain control team who quickly righted the situation each time. Thank heavens for painkillers.

Oh, I'm so happy for our friend Kathryn. Ireland is a lovely place. Not that I have been there but DD#2 has been there and extolls its beauty. She deserves a lovely holiday.

Seems like I had something else to say but DH has arrived home and we are going to go and get some dinner with DD#2. We need to enjoy our time with her before she moves away this summer. It is also 7:30 and I'm getting hungry. Boo to the man who likes to work late!

Purina Dog Food Diet

Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for
my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a
woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant?
So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I
didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I
probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that
I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes
coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it
was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load
your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time
you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I
was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone
in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended
up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I
stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both. I
thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing
so hard. Costco won't let me shop there anymore.
Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the
world to think of crazy things to say.

Good evening everyone! Wow - so good to see you online Lolly - don't over do it, but we are happy to have you here!

Such a busy day - could have used one more day in this week to get everything done at work - trying to tie up some loose ends and get out of here for a couple of vacation days - going to see my grandson again - can hardly wait! Everytime I think of him or see a picture, it just makes me smile!

Bonnie,

I am sorry to hear about your problems and I hope you figure out what is causing the rash. I know that is miserable. Try a baking soda bath as that is supposed to ease itching.

The Luau was a big success. Many more showed up that didn't sign up but there was plenty of food to go around and enough leftovers for those that wanted to take some home for dinner. I know I ate too much. The flower basket they gave away for the drawing was very pretty.

Three of us went to the food bank this afternoon, then traded food back and forth that we can't/don't eat. There was a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit available and we could take as much as we wanted. I found some beautiful peaches with no bruises. YUM!!
New potatoes, cabbage and asparagus. The food bank is a big help to stretch my food stamps every month so I manage to eat pretty well.

So glad to hear from you. Know you are in quite a bit of pain, I remember my dad's knee surgeries, but I know you will triumph! You have the spirit!

KRIS

Glad you got a shower, and glad you gave yourself a couple of gifts to make you feel better! Good for you. What you are doing is so difficult.

Went to Dr Mike this afternoon, and he was able to put my back into place without any therapies at all! That is progress. Still very sore and must be careful not to overdo, but he thinks I can start exercising soon. The problem is that with this nasty rash, I can't get in the pool! So, will try a bit of treadmill and see how that goes tomorrow.

Then I went to Dr Wentz, and he gave me a cortisone injection that should help with the rash and my back. Also gave me some pills to take for the rash. He thinks it was the Feldene that caused the reaction from the sun. The pharmacist told me no, or I would have stopped taking it on Wednesday. Kind of makes me mad at the pharmacist! Anyway, he wants me to stop taking it over the weekend and see how I am. Then wants me to go back on it on Monday if possible because it is the best thing for my back. Oh well, I am doing better. The biggest problem with the rash in addition to being just uncomfortable, is that I feel as though I have had a very bad sunburn. My skin feels that damaged, and I am cold quite often, again as though a bad sunburn.

Hopefully, I will be better tomorrow. So many of you have worse problems tha I, that I feel like a baby complaining all of the time. I'm just a bit depressed with all of this, and I simply don't feel quite right. Kind of hard to explain.

Thanks to all of you for just being there!

Have a good weekend all.

This too shall pass!

My dh and sister her hubby have all gone through what you are doing. I know it's not easy but you will feel so much better. Yes the degrees are very important and you must push yourself. I had to push my dh and he was glad i did. Yes that machine moves 24/7 while you are in bed and he found the meds didn't help him much. I told him about you and he said it hurts like hell for a week or so and then its really really good

Gilly - I can't believe the size of those fish! Holy cow how do you land a fish that size? I think my arms would break off! Also, I didn't know you had a greyhound! My sister has two and they are such darlings aren't they?

Bonnie - Hope your appointment went well. I will be anxious to hear what the doc had to say. You have a trip coming up soon don't you?

Good afternoon,

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. It is quite the up and down process. What I mean by that is that an hour ago I was in tears I hurt so badly. Once they got my meds straightened out I was much better just even after 10 minutes.

It is quite the process, of course they wake you up every two hours at night for something or another, blood work, meds, testing for sugar, and the worst was to put you on the machine called a CPM machine. At any rate it keeps moving your leg around and around and it is not fun. Luckily I fell asleep. The nurses are excellent and very helpful. The doctor was in this AM as said he wanted the machine at a higher level. Ugh. I need to have it at 90 degrees after one week and 120 degrees at after 3 weeks. The full extension (knees straight) by one week. Oh dear. Right now they have me sitting up but I get to go down as my hemoglobin is low and I need a transfusion. Lucky me. The worst is having the catheter in or one of the most uncomfortable anyway.
So I bet that is more information than you wanted to know, right?

Kathryn, Good for you. Ireland. That is fantastic.

Gilly, I am glad to hear from you, it is comforting.

I find all of you on my sparks program keeps me in balance and then I don't get to feel too sorry for myself! Trust me, I can get awfully whiny to my DH sometime. He is so good and hasn't gotten a lot of sleep either. Sometimes being a care giver is very hard.

Kris, Did you find that gym yet?

Pamela, Love that baby picture!

Got to go,my son and GS just walked in.

Lolly

Good afternoon all. The AC people were here yesterday and my unit (which lives in the attic) can be replaced without cutting a hole in the side of the house. We will have to make the access larger to get the new unit in (and the access is directly over my new tile floor). But it is better than the side of the house with a crane.

Sure has been hot, I'll be glad to get it done.

TGIF!!!!

I can't wait...............1/2 hour more and I am OUT OF HERE...

Today, my big excitement will be to write out some Thank You notes until my DH comes home. I am planning on a lovely salmon meal and then off to the barn to bring back some hay to our new place. Yeah!

Remember I told you that the manager at the boarding place asked us to consider staying and doing work there for a bartered stall discount? Well, a lady at the barn asked for the same thing this week, and she turned her down. She is just unbelievable. Someone who is willing to work, and does more than most women do in regards to house renovations, and who needs the money, yet she just turns her down flat. "You can't fix stupid" I guess.

My PC at home was acting up this morning in regards to e-mails, so I am not sure what, if anything, I will find from Lolly today. But I am sure she is going to be working hard today..........I just pray the pain is under control. I can just see her now, playing tennis by the end of next month. It wouldn't surprise me!

Kathryn - emoticon on your trip! I am so darn excited for you. If anyone deserves this, it is you my dear! Enjoy, take tons of pics and find a wireless to get in touch, if you can!!! How long will you be gone? Will the STBX be gone by the time you return!?!?! I sure hope so, so you can start that new life of yours. Big hugs sweetie........good for you!!!!!

So I guess this means your not coming to Minnesota? emoticon

Gill - enjoy those grand kids!!! Love the fish pics.

Kris - so happy for you for finding a little bliss in the day. It is the small things that makes one happy, isn't it?!?!?!

To everyone.......have a fantabulous weekend!!!

Namaste,
Mick

Kris,

Whoops! I forgot the part about all the work your hubby is doing on your house. Sorry. I often tend to 'open mouth, insert foot' at the most inopportune times. Thank you for the name of the hair product. I'll check around and see if I can find it next time I bum a ride to the store. Right now Walmart is a nightmare trying to get to and from with all the construction going on so I'll stay away from there unless I can get a ride in the evening.

Hi All
What a horrid day it is here in the UK, its cold, and wet, really miserable and depressing, ah well i wont have to water my plants tonight LOL.

Hubby should be back soon with the G/Kids, its the 3 boys that are coming up, i just hope the weather alters for them to go out and have some fun on the beach.

Lolly i`m so glad that your op went well, you will be like a new woman with a new lease of life once you can get up and walking again, there will be no stopping you, glad to hear you`re not in too much pain, love to you, and take care.

Mick thanks for keeping us informed with news of Lolly, she`s one brave lady.

Peg you asked for a picture of Hubbys big fish, i have put 3 on my spark page for you, one is 21.5lbs, one 32.8lbs, and one 40lbs, he cant wait to go again, he`s counting the days LOL, do you do much fishing then? we have a lake on site here where we stay for the summer, and i have often said to John that i wouldnt mind having a go at it, but there isnt many women if any that fish down there, so i would feel a bit daft being the only one, maybe one day LOL.

Kathryn you have a great time, and have a drink for me while you are there, you deserve to have some fun, dont forget to tell all when you get back.

Kris i`m so glad you managed to get a good nights sleep, its a shame you cant have them more often, i find if you have a good nights sleep, you can cope better in the day, take care of yourself too.

Bonnie i`m glad your back pain is easing for you, the injection you had for the pain did you find it worked for you?

Well i`m going to have to go now to get dinner ready for when the boys get here, they should be here in about 15 mins, so i had better get cracking, i doubt very much if i`ll be signing into spark over the weekend, so i`ll catch up with you all on Monday.
Have a great weekend everyone, and take care
Love and Hugs

Brenda, I took no offense. My fil is very frail and forgets he can't walk alone anymore. I never know when he's going to just get up and wander so yes, he has to be watched 24 hours a day. The alarm keeps me from having to go into his room every 15 minutes but it wouldn't do much good even if I could hear it from the shower. Shower time is total me time and I figure it doesn't hurt my mil to come sit so I can enjoy it.

My dh works all day and usually comes home from work and works on the house. He averages about 14 hours a day. The weekends are usually filled with the bigger projects. We pay someone to come help him so he needs to be outside with the help. Soon the house will be finished and after that I expect a bit more help from him.

The stuff from the grocery store is called "got2b, power styling gel". It's not heavy on my hair at all. It'll be stiff after it dries. Just brush it out.

I just polished my finger and toe nails. It's not a full manicure and pedicure but it feels and looks good. The color is "Red Hot Tamale". Another "present" I bought myself at the grocery store. Very fun summer color.

Morning:
I started this a second ago and some how it disappeared . emoticon so i'm not sure if you will all see another post that makes no sense

Mick- thanks for the update on Lolly. Today if they do the same schedule as my dh and sister she should be getting up and sitting in a chair and then maybe walking the hall with a pt person w/ a walker or crutches. When you talk to her ask her if they put her in a leg holder that bent her knee all night long

Gil- you should have such fun with the gkids i always do.

RW- that was a really goo one

TRudy- i haven't read those series yet. I like Debbie Macomber her's are good. I just finished reading "Just Alice" and that was a good book. I read "the shack" it was hard on the 1st 3-4 chapters i had to force my self to read through it and then finish the book. It ranks as a so-so- book in opinion

Dianne- wow 3 miles in 35 min i think i would need the perimdics waiting for me. I do 2 miles in 30 when i walk but can only get 1 mile in 20 on the treadmill.

Pamela- congrats on a well done fund raisier.

Lolly - if your reading this i'm glad your doing well. And you seem more clear minded then my dh did. He had his surgery at 2pm was out at 4pm and in his room at 7pm. Then he called me at 11pm at home to tell me he had to go to the bathroom. I was in stiches laughing i told him to call the nurse not me. Next day he didn't remember it. emoticon

Joanne- i think having the equipment in the family room to watch tv and workout together is a good motivator. My treadmill is in the bedroom and when the sun shines and i'm up early i do 20 min before work watching the news. I don't do it so much at night as i'm alone all day long and don't feel like being alone all night while i work out. So thank goodness i go to jazzersize and curves.

Kathryn- you will have a blast on vacation. I'm so happy for you. you deserve this and when you come back you will feel rested(in someways) and ready to start your new life. And what a way to start in Ireland.

Trudy - sounds like you have an excellent day ahead of you

Dianne- wow a new experince for you this month have fun

Kris- i;m glad you found items that work and you have friends that can make it for you. My dil sell arbonne and i use that it's expensive but so far it works for me. I'm glad your mil finally showed up and you got your shower and could run errands. Maybe what you need to do is make a direct time and a day that she should show up without having to call her each time you need her.

Well it's raining her again today and so no outdoor walking at work. I will head to my classes after work and destress there. Cole my gson leg is coming along. He is having a hard time not being able to walk on it so he is dragging it. Not a good thing. the oldest boy is having a hard time he is looking for attention and being 4 yrs old he feels left out. I tried to explain to the parents that they need to do one on one with the 4yr old but they say that then they would be leaving Cole out. I told them there is a way to do that it wouldn't single out the situation but they know better. Anyway they are talking to me again. Will see how long that last.

Lolly,

I'm so glad to hear you are doing so well. You will be back to normal in no time--whatever 'normal' is. emoticon

Kris,

I don't understand why you can't take a shower when you need to. Does you fil have to be watched every second? I honestly don't know how you can do what you are doing and still keep your sanity. Can't your husband help you more? I understand that he has to work but after all, it is his father and I don't think you should have to shoulder all the burden of his care. None of my business and I hope you don't take offense because none is intended.

What is the stuff for your hair that you found at the grocery store? So far I haven't found the magic potion to make my hair fuller on top. Jel just flattens it more, moussse makes it stiff so I just keep my hair very short and try to fluff the top. It's a losing battle.

I don't know anything about flower problems. I always thought mold on the leaves was from over watering but then I read it was from not enough water. Maybe yellow leaves is not enough water.

My neck has been really stiff the past couple days and I wish it would go away. I don't feel bad, tho.

I can't respond to all the posts as there are too many to remember.

Enjoy the weekend.

Good morning friends!

I made it to bed at a decent hour last night and slept through the night. I didn't want to get up when the alarm went off though. The light hurt my eyes. I think I could have slept another 3 or 4 hours. Lazy me.

I did get up though and feel more energized than I have in some time. The scales show me at 1/2 pound down but they might be teasing. Right now, I don't care. I feel good.

I have a friends in Maine that makes their own shampoos and lotions. Well they decided to start selling them. Of course, because they're my friends I bought some. I'm going to keep buying it because it works. I live in the desert as most of you know. For the first time since I got here I have a lotion that feels good when you put it on and moisturizes the alligator skin and is still working the next morning. I have no dry, flakey skin this morning. I can hardly wait to see the results after using it for a few weeks.

This is the first thing that tickles me pink. :)

The second is that I finally found a hair product that will let me set my hair up in the front. My hair is so silky that, even though it's really thick, it lays flat to my head. I used to use hairspray to give it a rise but developed allergies to almost every hair product. I found some stuff at the grocery store and used it when I got home. It feels good after it drys and is supposed to be sweat proof. It held my hair even after the brush out and isn't sticky in the least. Most of all my head doesn't itch! It's been hard enough growing older as vain as I am with the things my own body has done to me without the disappointment of not being able to fix my hair. Now I feel sassy again. Between their hair products and the found grocery store treasure my hair looks and feels great. It has body, shine and movement!

Lol I sound like an infommercial.

My mil told me again yesterday to call her whenever I want to go somewhere. I tried to get ahold of her starting at 10:30 am yesterday and had just tried for the umteenth time at 1 when she knocked on my door. My fil had been up since way early and I needed to get a shower. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a shower and couldn't reach anyone to come sit for a half an hour. It really bites my arse. I was more than a bit sarcastic when I told her that I had called her plenty of times over the last few weeks but had not been able to reach her by phone. Her offer does me little good if she does not make herself available.

She stayed while I got my shower and went to buy the rest of my groceries that went unshopped for when dh joined me at the grocery store the other day. My fil was up 13 hours yesterday and ate all day. He had dinner with dh and I last night and ate really well. We may not see him for 3 or 4 days now. He's gotten to be like a bear with the feeding then hibernating. We'll see what comes.

Now that I've written another novel, I'll wish you all a good day.

Whatever you do today, find a way to make it fun.

Love you all to bits!

Kris

Diane- 35 min for 3 miles is really good!! Congrats
Mick- thanks for the update on Lolly, so glad she is doing well.
Kathryn- I'm just thrilled for you and your kids , you guys will really have a great time. I'm so glad you have decided to do this. e-Harmony, I am impressed. I met my DH on line. It can be done!! Just be careful and choosy. I'm sure they will explain all that to you though.
It is hard to meet men at this age sometimes, especially if you don't go out much. I never went to bars, don't drink much and would feel strange there anyway. besides who wants someone who frequents a bar anyway!! IT is a fun way to get started and exciting to get that first e-mail. Good luck
I am headed to a salvage yard of all places, today. My teacher friend has organized a get together of a couple of us to visit this place. We've always talked about doing it since seeing one on HGTV, Home and gardens TV. Just thought it would be fun and then going out to eat. I'm looking forward to it. Tomorrow is my big 7 mile run. Wish me luck!
beautiful day here in Iowa, cool though, only 55 now but will get up to 72!!
take care

Good morning,

Pamela...thanks for breakfast. I don't know how some folks can skip this most important meal of the day!

RW....Funny! Thanks for making us laugh once again.

Kathryn...good luck on your trip and have a blast.
I hate to be stupid, but is the Emerald Isle Ireland?
I ask because my DH and I visited Emerald Isle in North Carolina one time and loved it there. Very peaceful. My grandparents came from Ireland (on my Dad's side) and I always thought I'd love to see where they lived. But couldn't pinpoint anything for sure because people took ships out of there wherever they could back then, not necessarily from where they resided.

Lolly...if you are able to get online, I'm so happy that you sound chipper! and drinking a latte' already. LOL Leave it to you! You're in my prayers.

Maryam...did you ever move yet to your new apartment?

Brenda....my garden is also growing very quickly lately. I think it's because of the rains we've had.
But my one pot of flowers is looking not so good.
It's geraniums and the leaves here and there look a little yellow. I've seen neighbors plants and the leaves are nice vibrant green. I wonder if I either over fertilized or did not give them enough. Maybe I will search online.

I'm having two of my cousins over for a visit this afternoon. The one has been wanting to see our new house but doesn't drive, so the other cousin is picking her up. I've made banana bread with chocolate chips, and I'm also making a sort of sweet rolls. Whatever is left, I'll distribute to some neighbors around me. I don't want to tempt myself.

Hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.
