Good Morning,

Check this out ,I kept a running $ total on fresh fruit & vegetables for the month $168.21 that seems like a lot of money doesn't it? I hit my goal of 400 miles running walking biking yesterday that has been on the burner for me.

Water was good sleep not the best, ran for 40 minutes biked for 50 minutes, no strength training yesterday, I took the advise of the person who drew my blood , she suggested that it would prevent bruising and it worked. Steps 16,169, all in all a good day and a good month. emoticon emoticon

I get the report from my bloods a week from tomorrow. Hubby and I both had them done last week. Hoping for great things! We'll have to compare notes, Yanks. I planned a morning run before work today, but it didn't happen. Have to make up for it over the long weekend. I have 6 jogging miles to get finished before Sunday. Sleeping like a baby!. Got my chamomile tea in last evening. It's a great help for snoozing. Water is running through me continually, and it's a great way to keep healthy, happy, and moving.

Jazz - thanks for a great challenge! I've enjoyed it, even though I wasn't able to post as frequently as I would have liked.

Have a wonderful long weekend, all. Happy Canada Day! - Happy Fourth of July! Happy end of June challenge!

Yesterday I did 60 min of aqua aerobics, 2 hrs golf (it was HOT!) then a 30 min walk in the evening, logged 10,300 steps. Got all of my water and tea in. Slept horribly, stress did me in. emoticon
Yanks, good luck with your bloodwork.
Jazz, good luck with your friend.
Let's all keep working to stay healthy as we can.

headed out soon for a 9 mile bike ride................... its the perfect warm morning for it. Sunny and a little cooler. Better to get out early and then its cooler and I enjoy it alot.

Will also do a 4 mile run later this evening...................... to get my steps in.
Im not drinking the tea every night anymore - but find that now my body is in the habit of sleeping better and so I dont really need it. I do want to start a cup of green tea everyday so that will be the habit I try t-------------o make for July.

Thinking about our July challenge ............................Im thinking about a mind and muscle theme.

Good Morning Everyone,

Early start of the day, I'm off to the lab for some scheduled blood work, it's usually in and out, then some breakfast after , the 24 hour fast will be over, I should do that every night.

Water was good yesterday, sleep just okay, a hot tea at about 7 last night, got in a good workout no running , I used the elliptical for 30 in hill intervals then biked for 60, total steps 18,520 I'm closing in on my goal for the month and should hit that today.
My son signed me up for a 5k July 4th, he lives up in the Berkshire Mtns., I can imagine the course will be all hills. Bring It On!!!!! I'm ready!!!!

Hi, all!
Jazz - my hubby had a total hip replacement last June. This past weekend he ran (well, jogged) a 10 miler. He did the Cabot Trail Relay last May - 13 miles there. So, though you're not meant to run on new parts, there is life and exercise after joint replacement. Sometimes they need replacement because we wear them out. Not only because we don't use them enough.

But I hear you - there are so many people seeking medical solutions to what they are causing by day-to-day bad habits and bad food choices. Good we're all here and trying our best!

I'm not getting much computer time. Jogged 4 miles before work yesterday - will try to do the same tomorrow. I'm aiming for at least 10 miles/week and the weekend will be hectic here as well. The birthday party did not wreck havoc. It was for a diabetic turning 77, so the meal was (maybe too) healthy. I made the fruit salad for dessert, which we put on top of the birthday (angel) cake. I had more wine than I should have, but apart from that it was all good. Still carrying the extra weight from the weekend, so going to higher protein, less carbs the rest of the week. Switching from my oatmeal breakfast to egg and eggwhite omelet with salsa...salad instead of pasta for lunch - let's see what Friday brings ..

Had to buy new bathing suit this year - mine was too baggy in the butt YAY!!!
A client I have been seeing every 3 months for the past 4 years said to me on Monday- Have you been losing weight? And, after she got up and was walking out: 'You're positively skinny!" How good did that feel?
YES!

Keep focused all! Beach weather coming up, at least in our hemisphere.

as Im reading msgranola's osting - Im sitting in a hospital surgical waiting room. My best friend had hip replacememt surgery today. It is so true that if we dont keep walking and maintain a healthy weight and healthy life habits our boies break down alot sooner than they would Im watching all these families waiting for people in surgery and so many 40-50-60 year olds getting hips and knees and arteries cleaned out.
It sure is incentive to be here - and do the things we all talk about every day. Sure i want my fat belly to melt away -------- but not to have to start replacing body parts is alot more important.

We are doing the right things................. and maybe its not so much a challenge anymore as it is just a lesson in keeping healthy if we are - and getting healthy if we arent.

Food for thought - the kind with no calories

To everyone: Great step/walking motivation! I feel inspired ....

Yesterday, I walked for only 15 mins and then hit golf balls for about 1/2 hour.
So many people our age need knee replacements etc. I wonder if being very active is helpful to joints or harmful? I should investigate to see if there is a correlation to golfing, running, etc. Or if it is old injuries that cause some to need replacements.

I am drinking 3 cups extra water in the morning when I can get it in without feeling over-watered.
I am loving my sun tea. it just seems so sunny!
& I am increasing vegs and fruits like last month. I plan a big fruit/summer veg salad today.
I am not an angel, I still seem to get in a few junk foods. Hoping the above evens it out.. emoticon

Hi team!
Yesterday I drank all of my water, walked 35 min, ST 15 min, and logged 8500 steps, hmmm. Had my green and sleepytime tea. Slept very well for me, only up 3 short times, but slept very late this morning (I'd better drink my sleepytime earlier ;).
Have a beautiful day!

It's Monday and so far I've got 21,207 steps. Ran on the treadmill this morning for 55 minutes (that includes the 5 minute warm up and 5 minutes cool down), lifted weights, got in my sleep and water. Hubby and I also did a lot of walking after my exercising in the morning.

NJJAZZ,
Sorry to hear about your friend. My friend is having knee surgery on 13 July and I will be helping her as well as her sister. She is not a small person, outweighing me by 100+ lbs.

White Castle!!!! I'll take a sack o' twenty 10 with cheese, that used to be my end of the night fill up after a night of drinking, the grease from the burgers used to soak up the alcohol ( at least that's what we thought). What in the world was I thinking back in my youth ??????

Weekend was a success with the step program , over 35,000 for two days that included a half day Sunday spent in a county park hiking some trails. No food tracking, I needed a break from that, water was good on Sunday not Saturday. No hot tea, Sleep no problem for the past two days now that the Portland Princess is back home.

Stay Smart!!!

Happy Monday! Hooray Summer!
I wasn't the best this weekend and am up 1/2 lb. I did get all of my exercise and tea in but didn't count the water either day and I know I was low. I have my pedometer on and am going to give it a good workout for the rest of June!
Have a great day all!

the sun is shining here in NJ and I have lots of outside work to do today. Need to get my lawn cut - some shrubs cut and a little weeding. I love being outside in the sunshine.

A dear friend is having hip replacement surgery tomorrow. I will be his primary caretaker............. he is 6'5" 250 pounds and I am 5'3" 135 pounds. Not sure how much help Im going to be able to be helping him move around. That will be a workout for both of us.
His operation is tomorrow - and he will be in the hospital 4 days - then in rehab for around 7 days. Its going to be a busy 2 weeks so Im trying to get things caught up at home today as best I can.

Im hoping to take a 7 mile run later today..................... and hopefully will eat right . Ive been doing better with eating, drinking water and Ive been sleeping like a baby for 7 hours right straight through. That night time tea really has helped me.
Enjoy the day everyone...............

Good Monday morning, all!

Weight up a bit after a weekend on the road, eating out every meal, and wedding goodies to boot. I already see the summer pattern starting - gotta get a hold of myself. Out to a birthday party tonight.
Had my tea and lots of water yesterday - 8 hours of sleep. Now, if I can just find some time to exercise ...

Have a great week!

Went to a concert last night ---------------- and had a horrible late night snack. A White castle cheeseburger and choco shake. I havent done that in ages and ages............. and probably wont do it again anytime soon.
For those not in the East coast area - White Castle is a great pit little burger joint that has small burgers.... we always called them belly bombs. Some guys were known to eat a dozen of these things in a sitting................ they are small. but greasy !

Lots of activity planned today so hopefully i will walk and work it all off. emoticon

So far so good today. Got up and dragged hubby to the hotel gym for a workout. Ran 2.25 miles on the treadmill and then lifted for about 30 minutes. After breakfast we spent the morning walking around New Orleans. Got back to the hotel mid afternoon because hubby was dragging and needed his afternoon nap.

After he gets up we're going out for another walk and dinner out.

Drinking lots of water because it's hot and humid here. Did get 8 hours of sleep last night.

Thank you, Yanks - yes, it was a good visit to the Dr's. She had a Nurse Practioner in training who did the visit, then my regular Dr came in. The first lady had lost 56 pounds over the last 2 years. She is still pretty hefty. I had taken about 3 years to lose my 25 pounds. So, it was a good visit. Had my bloods done today and will have a follow-up visit in another couple of weeks. I'm feeling so good! Had my ECG this morning. The technician said - do you usually have a low heart rate? It was 50. I was pleased.

Good health is so precious. We need to keep focused on that!

I'm sure you will miss your little whirlwind, Yanks, but it will be good to get your me time back.

Good Afternoon All,
I actually gained a pound this week. Like others, I am confused. I exercised more this week and ate less. I was actually hoping for a loss and was quite surprised to see a gain. Not sure what is going on, but I am going to keep plugging on.

Office day here and then a girls weekend at a friend's lake house follows. These are my buddies from the health club, so they eat a lot of grilled chicken and veggies. They also are pretty good at drinking wine too - can't be too healthy. They are a great group and I am looking forward to our time together.

Have good weekends everyone.

MsGranola...I am finding the same thing. I want to ramp up my exercise program and everytime I do I hurt some body part and it sets me back weeks or months and I can't do anything but walk! I walk everyday and take a little at a time when doing anything else. My mind tells me that I am fit and able but my body tells me differently. We want to think that we can still do everything. I read an article about a Doctor that wrote a book about this and I think he coined the term "Boomeritis". Boy, I always seem to have an "itis" somewhere. emoticon

I am realizing that I am not fit enough or young enough to run, skip & hop. Whenever I do aerobics with a little running, I seem to twist my foot or knee out of place & strain myself. Then I am out of it for a few weeks. I am strictly going to walk. Thankfully, I am recovered from my latest strained foot.
Today I am going to walk for 20 - 30 mins.
I am going outside to make my sun tea. & cut some lavender flowers for sachets. Ilove to put them in kitchen drawers to scent my towels and pantry.
Yes, And drink a few extra cups of water.

I am sleeping very well. I hope it isn't because of lack of exercise.
Have a nice Friday emoticon

Talk about having a meltdown yesterday. I was doing absolutely great until just after noon and then all heck broke loose and I lost total control. emoticon Maybe it was because I was being too strict in avoiding certain foods - as then I dove into them with a vengeance. That's behind me though and today is a new day and I'm back on track. We'll see what the scale says about my breakdown.

Good morning!
I weighed in this morning and stayed the same this week. I am also perplexed, it seems the more exercise I do, the hungrier I am! The less I eat, the less energy I have for exercise. I know I am on the right path, just have to tweek here and there.
The good news is, I slept great last night and that is SO important to me! Hooray.
Yanks, I can't believe it has been 3 weeks already! It went so fast! (Something tells me you may not think the same)
MsGranola and Bugzy...hope your injuries heal quickly.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Good Morning,

Off to an early start , my wife and granddaughter are still sleeping I'm heading to the gym after this posting then off to the airport to pick up the world travelers. It's been a tough but pleasurable 3 weeks.

Weigh in I'm okay, I do have a 6 pound buffer to play with , however my focus is remaining at a high level. Water was good, slept well, no hot tea, got in 17,021 steps. I had a good workout including lower body strength I did not not do that the day before, and 90 minutes of various cardio ( no running), that's planned for today. Suzzette, I bet you felt great at your Drs. visit last week after all the work you have put into staying fit and healthy, I hope it paid off.

Stay Sparked

Weigh in this morning is up one pound - I did rather let myself go diet wise after hitting goal last week. I'm confident Ill be back to 145 next week and not let myself go up again.
5 mile jog before work yesterday, lots of water. No tea - I'm not taking time for tea ... But, did have a glass of red wine and slept like a baby.

msgranola-------------------- perplexing indeed. I notice the same thing. Im on this HUGE plateau and lots of exercise or almost no exercise doesnt seem to change my weight.
All I do know is if I could eat everyday like I ate today I would thin out. Low carbs - high protein and low fats. I know that my eating is the real key here. I know it - I just dont seem to do much about it. Same with weight lifting.............. I do know I have to do that and again - I read about it - but I dont get into a routine of doing it.

I guess thats why they call it a challenge. we are our own block...... emoticon

Thanks for the encouragement guys, sometimes I forget about the big picture,
Logged 12,000 steps. Had all of my water and having chamomile tea now.
today I did 20 min strength training, 1 hr aqua aerobics then 20 min swimming, 3 miles on my bike and a 20 min walk and loaded and unloaded my van twice with furniture because my sister is moving. Whew. I think I may just get the sleeping part right tonight!

Yesterday I ran in the morning, then mowed the front lawn, lifted in the afternoon and in the evening went for a walk with hubby. This morning I ran before starting our road trip. The eating hasn't been the best, but still working on it.

This is perplexing. Because of a foot injury, I have not been doing much walking as I am doing only about 15-20 mins a day. However, my weight is the same....just like when I walk 30mins and do aerobics. & ride my bike. And play golf every day.

I can see the problem with my weight loss strategy. (food) I am off to lunch and I must make better choices.

Morning All,
Crazy day yesterday. Managed to get the golf in after work, but the rain drops were chasing us down the fairway. Calories were a little over yesterday. I did not resist some potato chips at the 19th hole and those put me over. Exercise is up from what I normally do, so hopefully I didn't do too much damage.

Today will be a good day. Office first and then health club for a step class and some strength training after work. Sunnymary, hang in there. Good things happen to those who wait. Don't let the plateau get you down.

Today was an early morning jog, followed by cutting the front lawn. Then in the afternoon some weight lifting.

Hello Everyone!
Wild day in the Midwest yesterday. Our power was knocked out by a terrific thunderstorm. Still do not have it back. I am definitely not a "Little House on the Prairie" girl. Hope the power comes back soon.

Good day yesterday. Ate within range and even managed to have a "Pixie" chocolate. Went to the gym after work and ran on the treadmill. Felt really good. I haven't walked/run in almost a week. Water was a bit on the light side. I will have to work on that.

Planning to play golf after work today. Hope that the rain holds off. I play in a Wednesday night league and it seems as though it rains/threatens to rain every Wednesday night this year. Hope we can get the golf in - that will be a lot of steps.

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I golfed and logged 12,100 steps.
Got in all of my water but not my chamomile tea.
Went to a concert last night and got to bed late, did not sleep well but was able to sleep in this morning and got in my 8 hours.
Hooray to everyone making such great progress this month!

Off to a great start this first week -- can't wait to see what the scale will say on my first weight in. I just love the Daily Nutrition Feedback report as it's helping me to make adjustments to my food selections and meal plans so that I can stay balanced. Still sorer than the dickens from getting back into the gym with such gusto.... need to cool it just a little and ease my way back in. I am an emotional mess though and I'm fighting the urge to use it as an excuse to fall off the wagon -- as I've done so many times in the past. Got bad news about a dear relative, that really drives home the point that I need to get myself to the best health possible. Sorry for rambling..... go team!

Good Morning All,

Water good, Slept well only up once, Steps 20,815 that includes a 5k loop run, no hot tea all in all a good day. Today I have a mental health relief day my wife is off and we only have one to watch this morning ( later # 2 comes around). I'm off to get in a complete workout . Jazz good luck with your caregiving it does not go unnoticed , caregivers are the third part of the getting well equation they are so needed.

My plans for the day:
walking 30 mins
making the green tea combo & drinking extra few cups of water.

Once again, I slept well....but I had one huge hot flash which stirred me up for a bit.
keeping a tab on calories is in my plan for the day!
