I was going to walk out side today since i was able to make it to the gym,But we have thunderstorm's for today :(

I just found the link to the info regarding bulking up of the tummy if anyone is interested. I do crunches with my core workout twice a week, BTW. Not saying not to do them, just not to overdo.

Well here we are at the end of another month.............. ready to begin the next month,
Im finishing July at the same weight as last month -= a summer cold and poison ivy all over one arm. Not a pretty site. But Im ready for the new month.



i will post the Aug challenge and send out a spark mail to the whole team to join us. Will get that done later tonite.............
its going to be all about waistlines - bellys and inches......................JEMS.

Happy Weekend to all!

this has been a couple of roller coaster days for me....it is Saturday night.. and this has beeen my first chance to check in with everyone.....

I weighed myself first thing Friday and I lost 1.5 pounds last week. Wohoo, I am elated and it really made my day. Friday afternoon, while grocery shopping for a special reunion dinner with hubby (he's been out of town 10 days) my mom called and said my dad was seriously ill and had been admitted to the hospital.. She was clearly a mess. As soon as Bill got home, I drove the four hours to the hospital and have pretty much been there since.

Haven't tracked my food -- and of course no exercise, but the priority right now is my parents. Just reading your posts in the waiting room has kept me from eating the junk food that usually comforts me. I'm drinking my water and eating hospital salads until life settles down and I jump back into my regimen.

That is scary Suzette, my tummy is not so big, it is my entire waist that I want to reduce about 5 inches, not asking for much, I do crunches at least 2 times a week, maybe, I will not do any extra days,
I am quite a bit low on my calories today, I may eat something else, not sure, water is good, and I walked 30 minutes this moprning before the heat and just got back from a 35 minute walk, Walking helps me kep my sanity when I have had a bad day.

Just a note of caution regarding tummy crunches. They're great to do to keep things firm, but don't overdo - Just look at Britney Spears for an example of how a pretty little figure can go gladiator with too many crunches. They can thicken the very part of the bod you want to decrease. We can't spot reduce. To reduce the waist eat less high glycemic index foods, and generally have a calorie deficit. Just my 2 cents' worth.

I just got in my 1200 calories, plenty of water, lots of exercise, I weighed my self, and no loss, but it will happen soon (I hope) I have been working on my family tree for the last few days, and it sure takes up a bunch of time, but I am getting in my steps, and that is about all

Great job on the 200! woohoo go girl! Preety soon they will be easy. Plus you don't have to do them fast, just relax and do 25 at a time. Great job!
Today played almost 3 hrs of tennis. Awsome. I am soo tired. I'm going to enjoy the couch & clicker for awhile today. I deserve a nice relaxing break today.

Happy Friday,
Not so good at weigh in today. I am up 1#. This has not been a very good month for me. I let a lot of things get in the way of "being good to myself". Oh well, looking forward to a better month in August.

SunnyMary, maybe the reason that you are craving salt is because you sweat so much working out. Once your body adjusts, maybe the weight you thought you gained was really water weight....just a thought.

Office day today and no gym/golf tonight. I am going to a bridal shower for a niece tonight after work. Should be fun, but once again, this is keeping me from making my goals. I will just have to try to do my best. Enjoy your day everyone!

Hello and Happy Friday,
Last night at 630 I put on my sneakers, grabbed my ipod and my dog and walked out the front door and it had just started really raining and rained all through the night. I didn't t know rain was in the forecast so I missed my daily walk. The grass really needs it though. emoticon
Here is good news: I tried to do the 200+ at 9:45pm. I pushed myself and I made it! I never thought I had that in me. Surprise!
Here is the bad news: I gained a lb this week after a month of maintaining. That puts me back to 150 and I am quite mad about it! I was really craving salt yesterday. maybe that was it? emoticon

30 min of walking... I canceled my tennis match tonight, had the gkids and just wasn't in the mood physically. A rare event for me. Well at 9pm I realized i had made the commitment to wkout 6Xa wk- 30min+. 9pm and Uhohh what to do, Well I had my grandaughters (4&8) lace up tennies , grab flashlights and I drove us to the harbor, It is at the end of my street. It's well lit, lots of action there and we took Teddybear (yorkie) and all took a late night walk. We got home just before 10pm. it was fun and I stuck to my commitment! Woohoo for us!

I did good on calories
plenty of water, fruit and vegetables, fiber low
my exercise only consisted of 60 minutes walking, but today is a relaxing kind of day, got lots of housework done, so I only meant relaxing as far as exercising goes emoticon

Hello All!

Worked out on the treadmill this am... lots of incline for 40 minutes. I am proud that I took the time after the workout to do a complete stretching routine. I am seriously thinking about taking a yoga class.. my flexibility is not great and I can see that becoming a big issues for me in the next few years. I keep working on it.

SunnyMary: I too have a love/hate relationship with golf. I've played a lot of crappy golf lately, yet Wednesday I made a birdie on a 180 yard par three that has always given me fits. That memory will keep me going for a long time.... crazy game.

I have a great idea for bellyfat that we can all do! Last yr when I was sparkin I did it everynight and it really worked well..
~~ I call it my 200+! ~~
When watching TV I layed out a towel and did 4 sets each of 25 tummy and bun crunches, I alternated them. It was fast easy and you can do it on commercials. My + was a little twister board I twisted on for 5 minutes. Your plus can be anything (a few arm lifts, leg lifts etc) that might be a good challenge!
Another challenge I did was to do my JEMS nightly! (Journal, Exercise,Meals & Success's) I restarted it again 3 days ago. It really keeps me motivated. Here is my example: (of today)
J- played tennis, won most games, went to court, watched Movie w/gkids tonight.
E- 2 hrs tennis, team practice
M- w/i cal limit. woohoo!
( 4 levels/ 0-1000=under cals, 1000-1500= w/i cals, 1500-2000=over cals, 2000+= blow it! )
S- I didn't eat anything but salad after 8pm last night, another A+ day today, lost 3 pds, didn't emotional eat today, called someone instead. Great choices today!

Last time I did Jems I lost almost 30 pds and was almost at goal wt. Try it!

I really like the idea of a personal challenge, and also the belly, my waist/belly is what it is, and no matter how much I say and do, it just never seems to change, my tummy is flat or at least pretty flat, but it sure would be nice if it were smaller around.
I still have not had my evening meal, but I will be within my calorie range, I had my 9 glasses of water today, and went to the gym as well as walked around the neighborhood about 30 minutes
Perhaps, my personal challenge would be to jog for a longer time, it is quite a chore for me, I do walk fast, but my legs and knees and (heart) just does not like the jogging.
I did jog off and on at the gym on the track for 20 minutes today, but not at a fast clip, I did aerobics, swimming and worked out on machines as well as my jogging, so all in all I had a productive day.

Ahhhh...I just got in from golfing 18 holes. Love the game and hate it all at the same time. LOL. However, I am sure I had to lose a lb from sweating!
Suzette...I think you are on to something. I think we should have a challenge that includes losing some belly fat... maybe certain exercises daily or dare I say a goal to lose and inch or so from our waists???
I would also love to see a challenge that counts how many fruits and vegetable we eat in a day. 5? or 10??? Now that would be a challenge!

The challenges have been wonderful - Lots of great ideas to make healthy new habits. We seem to be adding new members and losing some - mostly due I believe to goals being met and them moving on.
We could revisit some of the older challenges for ideas that have worked in the past. One new idea might be to tackle a new personal challenge. For some it might be to get the belly down a couple of inches. For another it might be to decrease body fat percentage by 3 % ... Be able to play tennis for an hour without dying ... jog a distance of - whatever. Just take time to decide what you would like to make your personal goal, share it with the rest and let us know how the progress is going ... ?

Jusst an idea ... I'll keep thinking ...

Hi girls & steve! I was good to myself today! 2.5 hrs tennis! plus great food choices, woohoo. an A+day!
What is the right wt? Well Nov 4th I wrote a sparks blog titled "A letter to myself" and in that blog I was 145 pds. And still on the way down. I would of said the right wt was 135! Jan this yr I stopped sparking, took back all my foodie behaviors and today I sit at 167. OUCH! 145 looks preety awsome right now. That was when my profile pic was taken. So I guess I am saying that Nov 4th I would of said "135 for sure" today I would love to be 145 and able to run around the courts again w/o looking like I jumped in a pool! Enjoy where you are at! Take lots of pics but keep on sparkin and next yr you will feel and look even better! The perfect wt is where you are , while working on your goals of being, doing, acting, feeling healthier and stronger!!! A diff idea? ~Maci~

all I did was walk today, 70 minutes mostly in the house, but at a good clip, I am good on my calories, just a bit over 1200, that is where I like to be, water was good, 7 fruits and vegetables, fiber low, protein low, but not bad.
I am starting to have trouble with my feet, I think I wear good shoes, but mostly walk on sidewalks, so, maybe I should go to the park and use their walking trail, it is not the park closest to me, so, I would have to drive to it. so I will consider it, tomorrow the gym, which I really enjoy
My house make-over just isnt getting done, I always put it off

Hello,
I overdid it exercising yesterday and have to take it easy today. I pulled some sort of muscle! I took two 20 min walks today and that's about it. Sometimes I think that walking is the only safe activity for me.

Hello Everyone,
Okay day yesterday. Stayed within calorie range and made it to the gym. Good way to start the week. I woke early this a.m. and decided to walk/run before work. Our sweet neighbor has invited us over for dinner tonight and I knew that if I didn't get my exercise in before work it would not happen. So glad that that is behind me.

I can feel the inches shedding....the scale is however not moving...I am fighting disappointment...I knew these next 10 would be tough...I f I get there by Christmas I will be thrilled! emoticon

Lots of good comments about what is really the right weight. For me 125 is a goal - and may not be the right weight. The right weight will be whatever I am at when i cannot grab this handful of belly fat.................... Im thicker around the middle than I want to be. Its a little "apron" that I can grab with both hands............... I dont like it and think thats what will go if I get my weight low enough. And that may be wrong - but I guess Im going to continue to try and find out.

I certainly have not been depriving myself alot this summer............but I will bet my heart is healthier for all the better eating and exercise. thats a good thing

Another new member .... Awesome! Welcome Macilinn!

I am a new member too and I really appreciate this team. Read and post daily, it is clearly the key to keep the weight loss and fitness momentum going. Today I jumped on the treadmill for the first time in months, about 30 minutes of incline walking. I felt very satisfied that I have started moving again, now have to keep it up. Tomorrow I play golf and will work on the strength training.

The house redo is also going forward.... I have been cleaning and organizing.... can't believe the amount of "stuff" we've been keeping.... I'm tossing and everything is getting lighter!

Hi gang,
Walked, rode my bike, did the rower and did strength training today. Low on the calories. I am with the rest of you, it is hard enough to just maintain my current weight with lots of exercise and eating well. But, I AM maintaining and I have lost 5.5 lbs since Nov. and that is something to celebrate!! I know with all of your help that I will keep losing even if it is slow. Tomorrow, work on my closet!

Welcome Macilinn, and Happy Happy Birthday Jazz, Suzette I hope that what you said is true about reaching your (perfect) weight, I can finally lose a couple of pounds but it will not stay off, and I can not believe that I am going to have to go through the rest of my life denying myself, I do celebrate quite often actually, but really try to stay within my calorie range, and I exercise exercise, exercise, to no avail. But I feel so much better, and have lost at least 8 to 10 pounds in the last couple of years, SO I do plan on keeping up the good fight, but gosh I would like to be below 120 and stay there,
Today I got kind of on the high side of my calorie range, but still have over 100 I could still have and be within it. drank my water, jogged 20 minutes air boxed and got out and walked 35 minutes this evening.

I am joining at the end of July but I am going to make a july goal that works with you all. I am going to commit to 6 days exercise a wk. and doing my sparks work daily,. By the end of the month I will be ready to start Aug challenge w/gusto.

Happy Birthday Jazz! Hope you have a great day and that the year ahead is a good one. Suzette, happy birthday to you too, in a couple weeks. You are both youngsters! I think that our generation is taking much better care of ourselves so we are going to be healthy and active much longer than those that went before us. That probably goes double for Sparkers. At least, that is my story and I am sticking to it. I am looking at 60 in a couple months. I have to admit that I always thought of 60 as old. I don't feel old, my age just sounds old.

Had a wonderful anniversary weekend. We enjoyed ourselves way too much. I have been too "good to myself" in July, in the wrong ways. I had a lot of fun though. I will have to behave better before this gets out of control.

Office day here. I will go to the gym after work and stay within calorie range....the party is over!

Jazz - Happy birthday!! I will hit 58 in another couple of weeks myself.

You have better habits, and are exercising more regularly. I wonder if you really need to get to 125. Have you taken your measurements? Perhaps the magic number of 125 is not where you should be. How are you looking/feeling in your clothes? Out of your clothes? Do you have a body fat analyzer? You might have reached perfection and not be aware ?? emoticon

You can control what you do for exercise, and what you eat, but you can't really control what the scales are going to tell you. I guess we all find that out.

I just think you might want to consider that as you're making your plan for the coming year. I know you'll make it work, whatever that plan is: losing weight, firming up, or maintaining. We can't lose focus. Always keeping our eyes on the prize. Fitness is, as we've all found out over the 1/2 century mark, a life-long commitment.

well so today is my first day of being 58 years old.............. yesterday was my birthday .......... and I had a terrific birthday weekend.

Ive come a really long way on this fitness journey and have lots better habits... and regular exercise now........................BUT no substantial weight loss.

In this 58th year of life ---------------- time to get serious and do it. I want to get to 125......... which is about 8 pounds down. Going to have to work on a plan and then live it.

darn hot in this part of California, just not as humid as in the midwest, but HOT
I have been doing good on calories, and exercising good, even when I do it inside, like yesterday and today I just walk and walk until I get my 10,000 steps, not pretty but I get the job done

I walked late last night and early this morning to avoid the worst heat. Too, too hot already to ride my bike this morning. My dog needed walking and it was too hot to do both, lol! I will do some strength training this afternoon. Eating healthy. emoticon

Weighed myself Friday... 1 pound down! Great start for me!

I feel guilty even sharing about our weather here -- we are so fortunate to be having a cool and breezy summer. I live on the central coast, about 5 miles from the ocean so it is usually a bit windy. When I see on the news about the hot and humid weather elsewhere, I think about how hard it must be to get out and exercise. I know how my little mind works and I'm not sure I would be so disciplined. ( If I can find a reason not to.........) So many of you are staying with it.... Bravo! and lets hope the temps fall soon.

Went out today and golfed 18 with my son. Am very proud that I was able to walk the whole way, played pretty well too and enjoyed myself. Tomorrow I want to start doing some strength exercises as well. I do have a resistance band so I think I'll start there along with some exercises from the site.

Happy Weekend Everyone!
Great picture Jazz. Very pretty dress.

Very hot and humid here too. We all sound like broken records. This is our Anniversary weekend so I pushed myself and ran this morning. This is in anticipation of the extra calories that will find their way into my body today and tomorrow. There was a notice on my tracker that I have burned more calories than was originally figured into my calorie count, so I should eat more. No worries there! I am sure that I will manage that this weekend. Oh well, that is why I exercise I guess.

Monday it will be back to the the straight and narrow. Enjoy your weekends eveyone!

UGH! We did walk last night but it was so hot it felt like you hit a brick wall as soon as you walked out the door. emoticon Our official high temp was 103 but the heat index was 120! Just going to have to take it a little easier until this heat wave passes.

its been so darn hot I have not been doing any exercise. Even early mornings are too hot to run - and Im thinking today of maybe later this evening trying a bike ride. that shouldnt be too bad. Yesterday was 106 degrees and too hot to even think about doing anything but being inside or in the pool. The pool was like a bath tub because the sun was so strong.

Im a little disappointed in myself - that Ive slacked a bit on eating and havent lost any weight. Im clearly trimmer than Ive been - most my legs have tightened up but when I look at myself in the mirror--------------- Im still "thick" . Mostly its the belly fat - which will only start to go when I drop weight. I know that - because I dont have lots of fat elsewhere. I have to commit to losing anf then get angry enough to just do it. My 40 year high school reunion is great incentive..................thats in mid Sept.

Everyone stay cool - and be safe.............. and get those daily stars emoticon

I too had no weight change, at least it did not go up, emoticon , and I am doing good on calories, water, the whole ball of wax, so I know it will happen, I hust hope it moves down by Labor Day, that is my goal, I have not really got started on doing a project, I spent most of the day yesterday cleaning and washing down my refrigerator, I was just going to wipe it down and get rid of left overs, I certainly did that, looks good again.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I am maintaining. At least I got rid of the weight from the "girls weekend" last weekend. This is going to be another special weekend. Hubby and I are celebrating our anniversary. We are staying at a hotel in Chicago and will do dinner and some sightseeing. This has been a busy, busy month for us.

I was on a jobsite all day today. The heat is exhausting. I have my gym bag in the car and I planned on running after work at the gym, but I am not sure I have the energy. I may postpone that until tomorrow morning when I am "fresh".

It's hot here, too, but near the ocean - so you can get to the water for some relief.
weighed in at 148 this morning. Hoping to get back to 145 eventually, but calling it maintenance, as long as it stays in the 140's. I start my holidays today, so life is good!! Let us know how the dancers work out, Jazz!
