Had a nice weekend. Cannot believe how quickly the summer if flying by. I read somethng interesting in a health blog this morning. I read.

Eating fat won't make you fat any more than eating money will make you rich.

I really thought about that and with healthy fats - that just makes so much sense to me. Im starting to think that we are following alot of these corny new trends to lose weight - and most of them are a bunch of bunk. Im really thinking hard about just going back to basics and 'whole foods" or less processed stuff in general and see how I feel with that. I will blog for calories............... but I think some simple things are in line for me now.


J- ribs are finally starting to feel better ( cant believe you can pull a muscle under your rib from a cough but i did). The soreness kept me from running - but Im almost ready to get back on those sneakers and hit the trail.

E - just a walk today and will get in a swim later on. Its suppposed to be a rainy day today so am finishing some inside painting later today. Good for stretching .

M - have been staying on the low end of my calorie range and still leaving a few calories for a little ice cream. a great summer treat I will not deny myself................


S- researching a strength training workout that I will use for the rest of the month. Im thinking that doing a workout out each month - then changing up - is a good thing.

Good Morning!
Weekend wrap up...
J-My sister and her family came for the weekend to visit. Had a bit of vertigo so I didn't do much of anything. Relaxing was very nice but I will still take it easy this week. Allergies are bad recently.
E-No exercise Friday except for frenzied cleaning. 15 min walk Saturday, 30 min walk Sunday.
M-Tried to eat very healthy and stayed low on calorie range. Hubby kept insisting that I would feel better If I would eat more. I didn't but surprisingly I gained a lb.
S-I have a wonderful husband and family. emoticon

J--I am on vacation. Getting a much needed break from work.

E--My exercise this past weekend has consisted of swimming a lot.

M--My meals have been light. I am not at home so food is not that available. Good thing !!!

S--(this is the hard one). I will make it.

J= for me today is just being productive do something is better than doing nothing @ all!!
E= I started out on the elliptical @ level 10 for 20 mins ,then moved over to finish off with my weights for 90 mins today emoticon emoticon .
M = meals stay within range and drink plenty of water !!
S = Is hearing everybody compliment you on how you look ,You know then that you are making progress even when you don't see it !!!

To be strong and focused in all i do .
and never say never.
Also i can do anything through Christ our Lord and Savior Amen Thank you
JESUS!!
I also tell myself i will control the weight the weight doesn't control me!!

Good Moring All,

J---The weekend was fine, we caught a movie Sunday, the new planet of the ape movie, it was cool. No beach for at least 5 days my wife has some type of sun poisoning whatever that is and the Dr. told her no sun.

E---I took Saturday off, Sunday all cardio, I joined up (again) for the Spark Virtual Races and chose the 10k this time. I'm only going to train 4 weeks for this , so the Month of August I will focus on improving my position in that challenge.

M---All went well over the weekend I hit the calorie range on Sun, was a bit below on Sat.

S---Being able to sustain my drive to thrive. emoticon

Sunday:
J- tennis w/8 friends and hubs this morn. than lunch at the harbor, watched a movie w/hubs, than went to a tennis friends party till 11pm. sparks afterwards. Fun day.
E-2.5 hrs tennis
M- w/i cals.
S- It's amazing I was able to stick to my commitments. Cals and eating after 8pm. I was at a party and the chip and dip bowls were everywhere. I grabbed a bannana and cherries when the want to grab the chips became to tempting. Amazing. A+day!

J-What a great day. Slept late, had a good breakfast, did a little work on niece's estate & danced for 3 hrs tonight.

E-danced for 3 hrs!

M-on target. Mid range of calories. Got my star.

S-My success is all the above.

J-Had a beautiful morning on my kayak and a good lunch. Got my laundry finished and managed to do some sewing this evening. One of the grands is spending the night, so we played Mario Cart before bed. Life is good.

E-Another morning on the kayak, then a walk with DGS and dog this afternoon.

M-Still managing my meals well, even with the grands eating dinner with me. They didn't even try to tempt me with goodies.

S-It feels good to finish a good week.

J. I journaled today, my 1st grandson Daniel is 25 years old today, and that is mostly what I journaled about, the wonder, excitement and Love that I felt when I first held him,
E. My exercise today consisted of my walking, I got my steps in today, mainly walking around the house talking on the phone, but I did walk for 40 minutes this evening.
M. meals went well, I made my last fresh peach cobbler this morn ing, and after bit, I will have a small amount, I figured it in my calories already, and I am fine.
S. It was a great day, and after my day yesterday, just getting up for me was a success. It was me, I was just in a big funk.

J had unexected trip south to uncle's funeral on saturday, so..... sandwiches after but,,,2x cake !! Oh Bother but when we got home at 6.30 I made a light meal so not so bad. Sunday morning was church and in the afternoon we visited my delightful 97yr old father in law. My big problem is that I don't turn the computer on much at weekends so no recording. I'm thinking that I must manage that so have decided to write all food in a notebook at weekends and that will still keep me focussed I think. If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

S choosing only one square of chocolate last night! and told hubby to put it out of sight and don't offer it to me again and he did that so was happy to have a taste but not go overboard

J - Saturday was good. I got lots of studying done. It felt like a productive day.
E - Yesterday I did manage to get to Curves, and do the Curves circuit - strength training and cardio, together.
M - The calorie count was good, but it is so hard to get it balanced. Not enough protein today, but everything else was in range.
S - Exercise, and eating right both accomplished in the same day! That's an improvement!

J - Sunday, a day of rest. Only had about 1500 steps when I got home from church. Mowed the lawn, and the step count only went up to 5300. Took a leisurely 2 mile walk while reading an e-book, and I'll get my 10K steps in today.

E - Didn't count mowing the lawn, though it took longer and was more work than the 2 mile walk. Other than that, a set of Turkish get-ups with windmills at the top and a couple sets of kettlebell snatches to wake up this morning. Pretty much a lazy day, though.

M - Haven't had dinner yet, but it should be pretty easy to come in within target range on calories and macronutrients.

S - I was a bit down Friday, and recognized it as being not enough sleep. I can't totally control how much sleep I get, but I can control when I go to bed. So I put in an Other Goal to be in bed by 10:30. Stupid SparkStreaks wants to track it as a weekly goal; if I knew how, I'd put it into the streaks as daily. Oh, well. Just making myself record it should improve my consistency.

J-Felt very sluggish & tired all day. No reason why.
E-Did Yogilates for 20 mins & then 40 mins of step aerobics. Although very half-heartedly!
M-Within calorie range. Upper end.
S-My success today was exercising when I didn't feel like it & didn't want to do it!

J- spent the afternoon in PA with some friends I have not seen in 20 years. They found me on facebook and invited me to a family party. I t was a wonderful day in a PA lake community laughing and remembering lots of fun times.

E - if tipping my elbow with a wine cooler can be called exercise I did some today.
M - I did exceptionally well staying in calorie range today.... Had mostly protein - grilled chicken and a small scopp of potato salad.............. one wine cooler that I nursed all day and filled that bottle with water after that ( great trick ) and did not have dessert. Ive almost gotten to the point where I dont like sweet cake anyway ............... but I passed on everything but a little bit of fruit.
S --------- how to navigate a party and stay on plan... that is a total success in my book.

J = For toy went to gym for 2hrs and then grocery shopping .
Then enjoyed the rest of the day at carnaval with husband and our baby grandson.
E = did 1 hr cardio and another 1 hr weights stretched for 10 mins whoohoo!!
M= meals went ok eventhough it was a busy day !!
S= I didn't eat nothing i wasn't suppost to which is greatttttt!!!

To be strong and focused in all i do .
and never say never.

J: Saturday lunch with my daughter at McDonald's, first of a weekly series. It's a learning experience how to work around the McD breakfast menu for the rest of the day. Ended up having to plan the last food of the day to be carb-intensive to get up within the carb range but also stay in the calorie range.

E: This morning my body told me I'd worked too hard in the gym Thursday evening to do Turkish getups this morning. Felt like doing a little bit of nothing all day, so I took my e-reader for a leisurely 5.2 mile walk and didn't feel guilty about not being very active after lunch.

M: Ended the day within the range for calories and all the macro-nutrients, but not without having to make some late adjustments to get more carbs when I really felt more like eating protein.

S: Stayed in the nutrition ranges in spite of breakfast at McD. Got my 10K steps in spite of not feeling like doing anything.

Good Morning,

J---My new mower( about 4 months old) blew up yesterday, of course I did not buy the extended warranty, lets see what happens.

E--- A good morning at the gym, I got in those crunches that are part of the challenge, I did two types on two different machines. Total strength was about 20 minutes, a ran a very aggressive 5k timed out at 25.30, and biked 30 minutes at a moderate pace to cool down.

M---Stayed within my calorie range, however I did treat myself to a delicious eggplant parm dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant ( I skipped on the bread ).

S--- In my mind another week of sticking to the plan a success story.

Fun is on the agenda for the weekend!!!!!

J-Some times hard days at work do have a benefit ... no time to eat. Just gotta be careful not to over eat when I get home. Hope running up and down stairs counts as exercise.

E-Lets see 118 stairs, up and down 7 times, not much but all I managed today.

M-Stayed well on the low side of my range!

S-I have stayed on the low side of my calories, but am not hungry. So glad the cafeteria had lots of steamed vegetables today.

J. I have journaled every day so far, sooo proud, makes not a lot of sense, but it is there.
E. went to gym, worked out on strength building machines, walked the track for 25 minutes and then to aerobics class for 50 minutes.
I walked for 35 minutes this evening after it got cooler.
M. I put my calories down to 1100 to 1300 and I went to lunch with the ladies today, and after my lunch, which I was good, I only have enough calories for 1 apple, and I went over by 8 calories, so no star.
S. I lost 1/2 pound, now that is success for me, lets see if I can claim it next Friday, and make it 1 pound. I think I will.

J: Warm day, cut the lunch walk short. Not terribly busy at work. Had my driveway sealed today while I was working. (For those of you who have concrete driveways, sealing is maintenance for asphalt. Where I live, driveways are all asphalt.)
E: 16 minutes at lunch, 35 minutes to the mailbox and back to mail payment for sealing the driveway.
M: Toward the middle of the calorie range, within the range on the macronutrients.
S: Nothing big, just another day within calorie range and with a bit of exercise.

Happy Friday Everyone!
Weigh in day good here. I had a good week and am getting back to normal after the July food fest. Bugzzy - Wow, getting up at 3:00a.m.?? Not even the birds are up that early!!!

J- Had a good day yesterday. Everything went according to plan. Crazy busy at work. Good work out at the gym.
E - Friday is usually my off day. Tonight I go grocery shopping after work, I have invited friends for dinner tomorrow.
M- So far, so good today. I need to make sure that my meal plan includes a vodka tonic or glass of wine.
S - Made is to the gym 4 times and stayed within calorie range 4 days and guess what, it works. Will wonders never cease???

J = pushed myself out the door @ 3:10 am to gym this morning .
E= I started off by running on treadmill for 15 mins then 2 min cool down followed by 90 mins of weights !!!
M = Trying to keep my focus on eating the right amount for my body and what i am trying to accomplish each day!!
S= I got up and did something to make changes within myself which is AWESOME!!! emoticon

Good morning All, my Friday weigh in went as expected, I feel terrific.

J---Another great day ( except for the stock market mess), the weather was great and my little angel and myself spent most of the afternoon playing outside. MACILINN sorry to here about your Wed. drama, no matter how old your children are they still provide so much control of your inner being.

E---A real good day at the gym, about 15 minutes of strength and 90 minutes of care, no running , I have that planned for today.

M---I fell a few calories short for the first time this week, I can live with that.
S---My success today is having the ability to do what I do , we all work so hard and it pays off.
I will runa 5k under 26 minutes today .

J= Tennis than out to Mimis for lunch w/tennis friends, took gdaughter to a play. Annie. It was great just got home.

S= 100% day except no fruit today.

Weds
J= A team tennis practice. HOme to keep watch for DD getting things from her home, court ordered. Well all hell broke loose and ended up taking kids to other DD's home to keep them away from police drama. Got home around 10pm.
E- 1.5 hrs tennis
M- w/i cals even though the drama made me so hungry.
S- 100% day.

J-Today started out with lots of rain, but cleared up in time for us to get in an hour on the kayak before I had to head to work. Work didn't go as well as my morning did, and I am so glad to be home!

E-DH and I got a nice 1 hour paddle on the lake this morning. WooHoo

M-Stayed well within my ranges!!!

S-Despite a stressful day at work, I avoided the snack machines again. It is getting easier to do.

WOOHOO TO EVERYONE AND ALL OF YOUR SUCCESSES!
J-Went to the local farmers market again and had the most delicious summer corn on the cob! Spent the rest of the day with my son who is starting a new college and we were looking for apts. Had a very healthy dinner and a long walk with hubby.
E-30 min walk
M-Excellent day, very healthy choices, low cal and low fat. 6 F&V, 8 cups water. Hoping for good things on the weigh in tomorrow.
S-Overcame a little bit of family drama, it worked out well. Made terrific food choices today. No cheating at all. Not as much exercise as I like but it was a great walk!

J. I jdid my journal again today, (so proud) mostly complained about getting called for jury duty again, and of course it is in Los Angeles, not a nearer court.
E- I walked for 60 minutes and also air boxed for 10 minutes and did a few stretches, trying to remember those.
M. meals, I am changing my calories down 100 a day at least, someone told me, I was at a maintenance level, I usually have a hard time getting that many down, but I do, because I dont want to plateau, (like I have not been for close to a year. so I will try that, and hopefully still get a star. I did very good on water today,
S. A very productive day, I kept busy, getting things done, that I usually take a couple days doing, ALL DONE. Success.

J - As close to perfect weather as it gets in early August. Big company rah-rah meeting, got a free tee shirt out of that. Used my lunch walk as the team virtual walk.
E - 39 minute walk at 4 MPH this noon, and went to the gym to lift weights this evening.
M - Currently at the low end of my calorie range, and should stay in the range for calories, carbs, fat, and protein today.
S - As of today, I've been to the gym to lift weights twice this week. This is the first week I've been to the gym twice in almost a year. It also fits with my August goal to use the gym I'm paying for. :)

Morning All.
J - Good day for me yesterday. Played golf and managed to avoid most of the chips at the
19th hole after golf. Quiet office day today. Very busy here.
E - Gym for me tonight after work. Step class and then strength training with an
instructor that I really enjoy.
M - I am cooking tonight so I have control. Trying a new recipe with duck breasts. Hope it
is good.
S - August is off to a good start. Nice change for me. July was a disaster.

J I was able to get up even though i had no energy today and made it to the gym emoticon
E I did 95 mins of cardio and weights today S.N ( Thank you Jesus!!!)
M Making sure i eat healthy and stay within my limits !!
S Is i made it count today by doing something instead of making excuses why i couldn't get nothing done emoticon

Yes Bernie it's most important to get yourself into good shape before any type of surgery, it will enhance your recovery time ten fold.
Mary, that BMI can be deceiving, according to the charts a lot of folks who are in a good physical being can be considered in the obese range. Don't stress over it, you are fine.

J---A quiet day yesterday we skipped the beach, my wife had to much sun last week and she is still recovering.
E---I had a really good am workout that included a 20 minute strength circuit training minus the cardio portion. Ab crunches were included I knocked off 70 with 110lbs of tension.
I also hooked up 90 minutes of mixed cardio ( bike-stair step-and 5k run).
M---Meals were on target, I skipped pasta last night and substituted broccoli.
S---A no stress day equals a successful day and I had no stress. It's easy to be stress free when a job doesn't get in your way.

J-Had a short work day today, which means I had lots of time to ride my bike this morning (despite the heat).

E-Got a quick 15.5 mile ride before work.

M-Stayed well within my calorie range!

S-Sometimes you just gotta knuckle down and do what you need to do in order to meet your goals.

Hey Jazz, what is our body fat index suppossed to be? My BMI is a normal range, but my fat index is 37.7, right up there with you, I wonder what it should be, on the chart, it did not say. Oh well, another thing to get stressed about.

J. I did my journal again today, as well as a couple things I have been procrastinating about

E. Exercise, it is Wednesday so I went to the gym, 60 minutes aerobics class, 30 minutes swimming. 30 minutes working on machines at the gym and 60 minutes walking this evening.

M. my meals (nutrition) is good, I earned a star, drank my water and actually everything was close to what it should be

S. Success, actually, my day was a success, feel good, and was quite happy until I read Jazzs' little note about body fat index. oh well, it was still a good day

J-Quiet day, 2 walks today and yoga. Spent most the day cleaning fruits and vegetables that I got at the Farmers Market. Nice chicken dinner.
E- 15 min yoga, 20 min walk this morning and 35 min walk this evenenig.
M- Lots of water, 8 F&V, Really ate healthy but had a handful of tortilla chips to ruin it.
S- Stocked up on lots of healthy foods. Caught up on paperwork, ironed while watching an afternoon Phillies game!

OK...I'm new to this but the challenge sounds great.
J....Got up early, ate a lite, healthy breakfast, went to work, packed lunch & stuck to it. Dinner, movie, sparkpage
E....not good at the exercise. 20 minute walk when one of my clients cancelled
M...Stayed within my calorie range. a little low on the protein and fiber today but can add with a snack
S...Moderation works for me....My problem is staying focued

J: Small fire drill at work this morning, made the boss happy. Wimped out and went shopping (pre-made salad, baby carrots, cottage cheese) instead of going to the gym this evening.
E: 35 minute walk at what felt like a 4 MPH pace, but the mapper told me it was 4.2 MPH.
M: Coming in 3 calories above the lower limit of my range, with carbs/fat/protein in range.
S: Nothing big, just another day of getting all the essentials done.

J - Had a decent day at work today. Not a lot of stress.

E - Came home and did a P90X workout. Today was shoulders and arms. Suppose to play golf tomorrow. Hope I can swing the club after the workout today! :)

M - Splurged a bit for lunch today. Japanese takeout. Sure was good.

S - Drank my 8 glasses of water and did my workout. So far, I'm within my limits on calories, carbs, and fat (even with the Japanese takeout!)

Morning All

Yesterday was a good day here, with everything going according to plan. Let's hope today will be the same....

J - Office day today followed by golf league tonight. Weather should not be so hot tonight -
that will be a nice change.
E - My exercise today will be swinging a club and walking the golf course. Doesn't get
much better.
M- Meals - I have a plan in place, now I just need to stick to it.
S - The challenge here is not to give in to the homemade chips that are on the tables
when we come in from golf. By the time we finish, I am hot, thirsty and hungry. It is hard to resist those darn chips. I have added a few into my meal plan. I just need to
remember to count!

Ok here i go :

My J is to try and make sure i stay on top of my workouts and do the best that i can with what i can do daily.
E Today 120 mins of cardio and weights !!
M = meals to stay with in my limits and to zig zag them to keep my body guessing.
S = To make sure that i conitue to lose fat and build muscle along the way.
