Was this a one-time thing, or do we plan to have a regular Thursday virtual walk?

today, I walked for 25 minutes at the gym, just round and round the track, watching people, always enjoy that, and then this evening I walked outside for 35 minutes, not a thing unusual going on, and not many walkers were out either, maybe Friday night and they have a more exciting life than I do.

Wow! I love that I get to "see" some of the new walking sights by tagging along with all of you!

I took my dog on an evening walk, it had cooled down to the lower eighties and wasn't too bad at all...we met a new dog friend and his master...I also noticed some of the flowers in my neighbor's yards...I think they open up at night and I don't notice them on my daytime walks. Many of my neighbors were out watering their lawns and plants, taking advantage of the "break" from the heat today!

My walk was along Mission Creek Park with 2 of our dogs, Willi and Finn. We had to wait until 7 pm as it was too hot during the day. It's the most wonderful place to be. In the woods, along the creek. Birds singing, and the marmots screaming when we got too close. Finn, the hunter scared a piliated woodpecker out of his foraging into the trees then waited for praise because he did such a great thing. We go to the park every day. For me, it's therapy, and the dogs love it too. Twas another amazing day.

My walk turned into a play. We went to an outdoor moonlight theatre, my walk was w/my gdaugter to and from the stage. When we left we were out in the dark alone abit scary and we saw all kinds of huge spider webs. We stopped and looked at them all. awsome!

Well, I did the 2 walks today. This morning about 7:45 I went out with my dog. We stopped on the driveway to let the deer finish crossing the street. There were about 5 or 6 of them. It was a little cooler than it has been so it was pretty nice. We walked around the front (we live on a corner) to the cul-de-sac and saw 6 more deer at the back of an empty, cleared lot. We heard a lot of birds as we continued around the rest of our 1/2 mile walk, Our neighbor's dog barked at us briefly as we passed. My dog found lots of stuff to sniff, and for a change we did not encounter any other people or cars on the street.
At about 7:45 this evening, my husband and I took off for our 1.5 mile walk. As we rounded one bend in the road, we saw a doe and her fawn eating in the grass. A little farther up, we got to meet new neighbors that had just moved in to their newly completed house. The neighborhood was pretty quiet - no dogs barking or birds singing. As we reached the next street, we let a jogger go by before we turned. We saw people putting out trash for tomorrow and as we made one of our last turns we saw 2 more deer in a lot where they are just beginning a new house. The deer don't like it because it takes away one of their "pathways" through the neighborhood. There was a nice breeze as we headed for home. It's nice to walk and talk with my husband a couple times a week. After we got home, I stretched my legs as I tried to cool down.

Hi All,

I walked around my new neighborhood. It was a beautiful day. 80 degrees and 74% humidity. Our neighborhood is outside of town a few miles. I walked the opposite way that I drive to my street. There is a dead end street that is quite long with lots of houses. It's very heavily wooded and you can't even see the houses. When I was walking there was a train that came by and I never knew that tracks were that close to where we live, they too are hidden by the trees. I took my dog with and she isn't much of a walker. Tomorrow I will go alone. I am glad we did this walk. It got me out for the first time....now it will be easier. Thanks and glad to have you all walk with me.

I waked this evening after it cooled down some, just about the time the parrots were returning to their roosting place which is in a park the next town northwest of here, I enjoy them immensely, they are loud, and make quite a mess if they dive bomb your car, but, I like them, I also watched a darn squirrel get the last of my peaches, I have tried to keep them chased off, but not a lot of success, I did get to make 3 peach cobblers for my husband while they were in season on my tree.
Mobycarp, your walks was very entertaining, all I do is walk round and around a 2 block area, it has sidewalks and is a nice tree lined area, mostly around the water company and a senior living home.
I do see the same ones walking everyday, so that is a nice end of day, seeing and greeting some of my near and far neighbors.

Just returned from my walk. I walked with my neighbor and my dog on our usual route. We always joke that if the dog was not on a leash she would probably still follow the same route every night. It's about a 3mile walk. From our street we then walk along a path that there used to be horses along. It was always fun to see horses in the middle of the city. The city grew around them. When the kids were young we would take apples and carrots to feed them. They would always come running whenever they saw people walk up to the fence. But a few years ago the gentleman passed away and they sold the houses. We are waiting for houses to go up there. There has been some activity in the area but so far no construction.

From there we walk past the elementary school where my kids went. Then on past the high school and then around Round Lake. There are always lots of people around the lake walking, playing at the playground, just sitting on a bench enjoying the evening. It got a little warm when we walked through the wooded area because there was no breeze. Then headed back up the big hill and through the neighborhoods on the way back home.

Hope you all had a great walk!!

This evening I wanted to go to the gym instead of walking, so I figured my lunch walk have to do for the virtual team. I went right at noon, and covered 2.57 miles in 39 minutes.

Some of that was boring city walk near the office, but a big chunk was along the Genesee River from Broad Street to Ford Street and back on the other side to Court Street. The weather was nice, 80 or 81 degrees fahrenheit and mostly sunny.

The Broad Street bridge is built on top of the old Erie Canal aquaduct over the Genesee River in downtown Rochester. As a result, this particular bridge is level. Other bridges in downtown Rochester slope downward from east to west, because the land is lower on the west side of the river. As I look south from the Broad Street bridge, I saw the usual collection of gulls on rocks and in shallow water. (They weren't there in the spring when the river flowed more strongly and the rocks were all submerged.) Today I didn't see any of the usual mallards. Sometimes there is a blue heron in the shallows with the gulls and ducks, but he wasn't there today.

As you might expect, there were a fair number of people out walking or running on their lunch hour. I passed some slower walkers, and was passed by several runners. I saw three boats at Corn Hill Landing, apparently two privately owned craft and one commercial tour boat. I would normally expect to see only one, the Mary Jemison, which was not there today. (FWIW, a picture of the Mary Jemison on the Erie Canal is the current background on my spark page.)

The river walk was very pleasant for the height of summer, with a nice breeze out of the north. It wasn't terribly hot, but it was warm enough that I made a point of walking through the shade wherever it crossed the Riverway Trail. On my way back north, a cloud graciously shielded the sun when I most needed that.

While it was a little warmer than perfect walking weather, it was better than would be expected for an early August noon walk. It was far better, and more picturesque, than the drizzle and humidity I would have had to report if the virtual walk had been yesterday.

Ok I did my walk around the neighborhood. started around 7 and walked until about 7:45. Part of the walk was with my dog - a neighbor and her dog and we picked up another neighbors dog along the way............ kind of looked like a parade.

After that - I walked for another 20 minutes on my own - a bit of a power walk - quick paced and got that heart rate up a bit.

How was your walk? I enjoyed taking our virtual walk together....................... we will have to do another virtual event sometime soon.

my take on a virtual walk is that we are all walking in our own places --- yet sharing the experience online so that in a way we are walking together. the walk is real - you do it - the together part is virtual........................

hope that clears up the confusion.

As promised - here is an invitation to join us for a virtual -30 minute - sparkwalk.
Set for Thurs evening - Aug 4------------ start at a time that works for you and come back and describe your walk - what you saw - how was the weather - who went with you - how you felt - did you stretch before and after your walk - did you feel a terrific sense of accomplishment - did you walk the whole way or jog a little - did you plan to do it again - and finally - how can you fit that into your schedule at least 4x per week?

So who is interested in joining our virtual team sparkwalk?

See ya Thurs ! emoticon
