Tuesday:

Back to school day--as bad a clean eating challenge as Labor Day, but I managed to eat chicken wings and pizza (Hey, pepperoni is pork). Other than that--eggs for breakfast and tuna for dinner were pretty much on cue.

Got up early and did my 25 min. run, then after eating that pizza and wings, went the gym for 30 min on the elliptical and 30 min weights.

It's Tuesday, and I'm at 15 miles for the week. 20 miles looks like a wimp goal at this point, but things will get tougher next week when Tuesday and Wednesday evening commitments start up for me.

Clean eating: If Maci can count a granola bar, I don't feel bad about counting my breakfast. Rolled quick oats, raisins, skim milk, and a dash of salt. Lunch an dinner both have something processed in them, but also some clean foods.

Good Afternoon,

We are still computerless at our house, you don't realize how much you use it until you don't have it. I can't count the times I walked into the room to turn it on and it's not there. I do miss the daily Spark interaction, I'll survive. Paying our bills via the mail was a trip, what a waste of time, money and energy. The fuel alone to deliver those envelopes had to cost a lot of bucks.

Down to business, so far this month I've tracked 109.46 miles , running, walking, cycling. I am right on track to achieving my objective.

For the most part my meals have been okay some what dirty but on the healthy side. My metabolism is working overtime and I feel great. I have noticed that when are out to dinner I am ignoring some great stuff that is put on the table, and sticking to the clean meal plan.

Stay Healthy & Enjoy Yourself. emoticon

Got to the gym today and did 2 miles on the treadmill ---------- also went to Curves ( something I have not done in years). I did their circuit workout for 30 minutes............. its my step toward strength training. I got a an email offer of one free week - so Im taking it. I wont join - but I will workout there for a week for free.

The clean eating part is everyones challenge. After trying this - I realize how hard it must be for people who really do eat clean.................. for this challenge - I suggest we just come as close as we can to a clean and healthy meal......... I see lots of good suggestions here.

enjoy..............

Hello Everyone,
Had a great weekend out of town with friends. Enjoyed lots of golf, wine and good conversation. As they say, "the party's over" and it is time to get back to business. I have been slacking lately and losing ground.

I, too, am finding it very difficult to be totally clean. I am going to aim for two "almost clean" meals today. My lunch is going to be cottage cheese with fresh peaches and a half chicken breast. My plan for dinner tonight is a salmon burger (no bun) and a salad. This may not be totally clean; the cottage cheese is not clean and the salad dressing isn't either, but it is a step in the right direction.

After work I am going to the gym to run. I plan on running 2.5 miles. My goal is to get in 7.5 miles per week.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Joining in for the challenge.

I track my fitness in minutes so the miles will be harder. I do two classes a week and then run 3 miles twice a week so I should be able to do at least 6 miles.

The clean meal will also be a little harder for me. So clean should not be processed? How about milk? It's all processed some how. I don't know of anyone who drinks raw milk. Maybe I am misunderstanding this. I guess a lot of fresh fruits and veggies. Which is easier this time of year!

September 4 - 10:

I had a clean meal on Sunday and I think I had one yesterday. Are Black Beans a clean food? I'm thinking yes because they come from the ground. Only thing is, they are canned so have preservatives.

No mileage for the two days.

Monday-holiday

Walked 2.5 miles and cycled 20 minutes

"Clean" eating -- everything I ate either came from the ground or had a mom, so why am I feeling so sheepish about it? Cause those ribs were so good! I stayed with my vow of one serving, but had a little for lunch too -- not cheating, I tracked it all. Who am I trying to convince? But it was a fun day!

Biked 5 miles today and walked almost 2 miles.
I had scallops, baked potato and cole slow for dinner, that was about my cleanest meal today. I had a huge breakfast and skipped lunch and then an early dinner. Going to have sleepy time tea and go to bed early. Hope to join you all and eat more salad this week! emoticon

Hi Everyone,
I am sure going to have to catch up after the weekend on my miles. Only walked one mile today. I did have homemade vegetable soup with raw carrots, celery, grape tomatoes but ranch dressing for dip. It felt healthy and clean, I am going to have to give up the ranch though I guess.
I too have only gained a lb or two but it feels like so much more in flab. Looking to tone up in Sept

me too Jazz, I have gained some more weight, not a whole pound, but it is heading that way, and I really do exercise, and very very seldom go over my calories, makes me crazy,
But lets see, yesterday, I walked 4.4 miles
and I ate quite clean all day today, dinner was fresh corn on the cob, yum yum, with 1 pat of butter, it did come from a cow, not sure if it ever had a Mother or not, grilled chicken breast, radishes, green onion and 1 slice of bread Milton whole wheat, lunch was dates and a cantaloupe and breakfast was tomatoes, fried potatoes fried in olive oil (ground) toast Miltons again and fresh tomatoes, we are sure enjoying our little garden this year, I will hate it when our tomatoes are gone., oops I had ham at breakfast too. so all in all, I am about 100 calories below my 1100, but I will definitely eat something else, and probably not so healthy

so I have 13.5 miles so far in 3 days, so I am about on tract for 33 in a week, I will have to ramp up one of these next days. I can do it. emoticon

A little late because we've been away.

But here's what I'm doing. Running on MWF and other days if possible and trying to eat healthy.

So to start off, today is Sunday & I ran 2.5 miles afterward walking with Hubby.

For a snack I had Greek Yogurt & fruit.

Saturday,
Jogged 3 miles--on cue for the exercise

Clean eating was a real challenge yesterday--after I arrived at the Bridal shower. Oh boy, I hung around the vegetable tray because that was the only thing I could be sure of being clean. Lots of broccoli, carrots, tomatoes & cucumbers, but I ruined it by dipping my fork into the ranch dressing. Then the cold cuts tray--I stayed with the ham & turkey and I hope natural cheese, can't be sure about the white one--it smelled like real cheese. Passed on the punch, cheese cake and the chocolate cake. I guess I actuallly did fairly well,

Love the distance commitments.................... I am committing to 30 miles per week on my bike and 20 walking-jogging. Thats my Sept commitment.......... and I know I can do it.

Now for this clean eating................ it sounded like a cool challenge - Well its quite a hard thing to do. I would say we all just need to work toward eating more natural things and less things processed out of a box........................ just like losing weight - we cant get to our goal weight in one day --------------------- well we cant go from junk food to totally clean over night either --- but we can take steps in that direction and continue to get better at it.

I keep eating simple things like teamed edamame - and salads - and fruit salads as my clean meal - none of that is totally unprocessed with salad dressing - ro with some cottage cheese or with a few wedges of cheese............... but its alot better than a junk meal.

Lets keep at it....................... It sure cant hurt.

Unfotunately I seemed to have gained about 4 pounds....................... I can see it - I can feel it - I can grab it in my hands ( the old belly fat) and I can notice it in how my clothes fit.................. Im adding losing that to my own personal Sept challenge. I want to see 132 before the end of the month. and then to keep it off.

We will do my miles first, that I know is clean emoticon
Sept 1 4.3 miles
Sept 2 4.8 miles

I am aiming for 33 miles a week so I am about on track

For my clean meals, I made it yesterday, and for today, I had fresh green beans and onions, but I cooked bacon in them, so I am not sure, also, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn bread????? Lots of water, and fried potatoes, so I do not think it was too clean, but it was good, for Breakfast, I ate a slice of ham, toast, tomatoes and grape jelly, that probably does not qualify either, But I will do better

Hi Everyone,
I thought I had posted yesterday but apparently didn't push the button to send.
I am going to commit to 25 miles per week and one clean meal per day.
Thursday I make homemade vegetable soup and that was my clean meal and I walked 3 miles.
Friday I had 2 eggs with chopped red and green peppers and olives for my clean meal and I walked 1 mile. Saturday I biked 5 miles and walked 1 mile and I had a tomato stuffed with chicken salad with lettuce and cucumbers. Not the best but my cleanest meal of the day!

For the week of August 28 to September 3:

Total miles run or walked: Goal of 20 miles per week. 26.92 miles for the week by the SP tracker. I only track walks and walk/run sessions that are intended to be "exercise" and can be mapped, and I covered at least 2 more miles than I should have today.

Clean eating: Dubious. 5 days breakfast of oatmeal with raisins and skim milk is as close as I get to a totally clean meal. Ingredients: Quick Rolled Oats, a sprinkle of salt, skim milk, raisins. A clean eating fanatic would give up the salt. I'll do that when/if my doctor tells me to cut back on sodium, and probably not before.

Good Afternoon,

This is a two day report, we went from no power due to Irene, to no computer due to a virus. Who would want to deliberately hurt someone they do not even know by destroying their personal property. Go figure,

Well the clean meal challenge has really sparked some folks including me. A complete day of fruit and vegetables yesterday and 96 ounces of water, wait I used an Italian Salad dressing ( what a dope). Lets see what I can come up with for today.

Mileage, in the past 2 days I clocked 48.38 miles , running , walking , cycling. I do have a heavy objective for the month and I'm just about on track.

I'm running out of minutes on this PC, it's available at our library and it's really slow.

Have a good weekend.

I had cottage cheese for lunch, with a fresh tomato, so, if that counts, I had a clean meal, as I said I will work on this, is instant oatmeal considered clean? yougurt? shoot oh dear, I can not separate processed and clean,
How about bread? peanut butter?
anyway, I stayed within my calories, got lots of exercise and I walked 4.3 miles yesterday, I will keep a running tally, but I know yesterday was August, but I said 33 I think that is doable,.
Perhaps, I will know more tomorrow.

If salt counts as a seasoning, and milk counts as "having a mother," I have a clean breakfast 5 days a week. Lunch and dinner, usually not so much.

Put spices on your potato. Everything else sounds great, but my trainer/dietician says egg whites only. At least while you're trying to lose weight. whole eggs - okay for maintenance. I love sour cream on my potato, too - but not now. Good luck to you. "Clean diet" is working for me (not fast enough, but working.)

I'm having my clean meal tonight. Since this is my first one I need some pointers. I'm having a 1/4 pound hamburger patty, a medium baked sweet potato, one boiled egg and one banana. Can someone tell me what we are allowed to season with. I need something on my potato. I usually put grated cheese.

Thanks.

OK - so I ve got the exercise down ( finally got back into ti ) but clean (cleaner) eating really is a challenge. Im glad I picked it for this months challenge.

Oh and did I mention you still have to stay in your calorie range? Tough one. ~!

Count me in!

Clean eating is going to be a challenge, but I will try. I had a half of peach for breakfast with some cottage cheese so I guess I can't count that. This will require some thought! This could be really healthy if you do it right

Have a good weekend everyone and try to be clean. emoticon

Still working with a trainer, so all my meals are "clean". I never heard that term before he used it, but I love your definition: comes from the ground or has a mother..." Just has a clean breakfast; everything I ate yesterday was on track, and it's starting to work, finally.

I'm going to join this challenge. I have never tried to eat a clean meal before so that will be interesting.

For exercise, I will set my goal for 30 miles per week. I will use a combination of walking, treadmill and stationary bike.

One "clean" meal huh, guess I'll have to really crack down tomorrow, as for fitness, I'm going to get out & actually run 3 miles in stead of run/walking it at least 3 days this week :)

Hummmm. Today I had a clean meal but it was really small. One porkchop! I was saving cals for the big game. But It counts woohoo!

Miles are tough. My tennis is extreme everyday and I just can't add to it, soooo the days I don't play tennis I will make sure and take a long walk at least 2 mi those days.

yes the clean meal is certainly a challenge. Today for lunch I had steamed edamame and and an egg. I guess the cup of coffee is processed - but that was more a morning snack...........
It is very challenging ................... so i would say just make one meal a day as clean as you can make it.

Got in a 9 mile bike ride and a good run on the treadmill at the grym. Tonorrow i will start working out with free weights.

A good start to the mnth............. but a slow start for people joining this challenge.

I will aim for 33 miles a week, I know get about 28, so not sure, but I will go for it, and I also am game for 1 clean meal a day, good grief, I may have to have straight fruit, but I will check up on the definition of clean, huu well meat has a mother, does that count? I am in, regardless, but today, I did not have a clean meal but I have walked over 4 miles, so, that is a start, I think I will put in yesterdays mileage which was 4.6 miles September 1, I will put in tomorrow

ok I re-read it, fruit salad a piece of meat, fresh vegetables, I guess butter is processed ??? no bacon or ham I guess, I will plan on it

Conversely I like the challenge of eating clean at least one meal a day. This is a area I also need to improve. Doing it one meal at a time sees attainable.

As to mileage, I rarely add it up, but use my fitness minutes instead. So that will be a different take for me.

Thanks for the great ideas!

The one clean meal per day, no way from where I am now. There's something processed in every meal I eat, even if it's only the salt (iodine added) that I sprinkle on my morning oatmeal. Getting to totally clean as defined for the challenge would require enough attention that I'd let something else drop. So I'll pass on that one.

The miles is a good idea. I've been tracking miles for a while, and I see that I got 21 miles the last week of August, but only 18 or 19 the first three weeks. I'll shoot for 20 miles per week walking and/or running. Cycling won't count, even if I get any in, because cycling miles are easy and would skew the total.

I can't believe it is September. where has the year gone. Well today starts a "Team Lean" contest where I work where groups of 4 compete for 12 weeks for the biggest losing team. What is even better is that they offer 12 weeks free gym, and nutritional classes. It is like being accountable to the other members on the team. No one wants to let the others down.

One clean meal a day is great and should be easy to do.

I plan on walking my 3 miles a day and continue to swim an hour each morning.

OK, I added up what I'm doing now as a zealous beginner, and I will keep to that mileage for this month--this will keep me from "falling off the wagon," even though it will be a lot more challenging doing all this before and after work.

Clean eating
22 miles per week (9 running, 6 stationery cycling, 7 walking) So I just put the 22 miles into my Mileage tracker, right?

Keeping it very simple this month.
Septembers challenge will be both in nutrition and fitness

For nutrition......... pick one meal per day and make it completely clean. No processed food. That basically means it has to come from the ground - or have a mother. use your imagination - fruit - salad -a piece of meat - ( its not as simple and easy as it sounds - but it sure as hell is healthy. emoticon

For fitness pick a mileage per week goal................... and meet it every week...... you can bike it - or walk it -or run it or treadmill it -------------- just pick a challenging weekly mileage goal and do it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Come back here and post daily and let us know what kind of "clean" meal you have had ( it can be breakfast - lunch or dinner and how you are meeting your mileage goal.

Good luck everyone...................... emoticon
