Saturday 10/1, technically after the end of the challenge:

Clean meal was breakfast, oatmeal with skim milk and raisins, flavored with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

Walked/ran 4.94 miles as the 5K My Way Week 3, Day 3. That brought the weekly miles to 28.96, on a goal of 20.

Did not, did not, did not eat clean today. Office party--I'm so ashamed. How am I ever going to lose weight obsessing over those brownies my friend brought to the party. Oh well. Tomorrow I run--hard.

Today I walked just 1 mile. I think my knee is progressing nicely. I'm calling it "Healed!" tomorrow.

Friday 9/30

Clean meal was breakfast, oatmeal with skim milk and raisins, flavored with unsweetened cocoa.

2.11 mile walk, for week to date miles of 24.02 on a goal of 20. Tomorrow is October 1, but I will have 5K training and should add not quite 5 miles to that for the calendar week ending 10/1.

this clean eating is almost impossible for me, we eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, but an occasional can of something, spam, beans, but I always get something that has been processed, like bacon this morning, other than that it was clean, but wheat bread is processed, but tomatoes and avocado is all good.
Lunch I had spam, cheese and crackers with a banana, it was very good,
Dinner I just had a small salad, not hungry, and an apple later.
weigh in in the morning,

weekly goal 33 miles

week 1 - 31.2
week 2 - 31.9
week 3 - 30.9
week 4- 35.1 I got my goal finally, makes my day

Today started well. Had nonfat Greek Yogurt with fruit for breakfast. For Lunch I had a small beef steak & bell peppers. After Lunch it was downhill. I ate too many almonds & dried apple chips. It's still early - I may dig myself deeper into my hole.

Stress causes me to overeat. My long walk in the afternoon with Hubby did not resolve the problem.

Hi Everyone,
Hope that you are all well. I have missed you. I have been traveling the last two weeks; mostly business but some pleasure. It is good to be back home. I did not do very well "eating clean" while I was away........ time to get back to the plan.

Today I had cereal breakfast (not clean), grilled chicken ceasar salad for lunch (not clean). I have some ground turkey thawing and I plan to make some lettuce wraps for dinner. While today is "not clean" is certainly a lot cleaner than I have been eating. The best part of the day will be that I plan on heading to the gym tonight. It will feel great to sweat. I will do a PX90 class and then some ST.

"Ive got a plan - now to stick to it " great words Yanks... and those words reallymade me think.

Do I have a plan? Kind of
Is it specific enough to stay on track? - Not really
Did I make small targets to get me to my end goal?. NO

So Octobers challenge will be all about "the plan". Specific - individual - and measureable.

I like it............... and yes mary - strength training is going to have to be a part of it - maybe we all can use all those canned goods as weights to lift? emoticon

just a few days to work on it....................... suggestions welcomed. emoticon

Good morning!
Yesterday I bowled 3 games, did a 20 min walking dvd, logged 3.6 miles.
My clean meal was lunch, garden salad with a scoop of tuna salad.
The best part was having friends to share lunch with.
My mileage goal for the week is 25. I made it with 26 miles last week!
emoticon
Really have to work on strength training next month!
Have a great day!!!

I'm thinking and looking at via my journal what I ate yesterday and asking myself why?

The cleanest meal was lunch a turkey burger on whole wheat , I am aware that ground turkey is processed however it's okay with/ for me. It's amazing how many types of canned vegetables we consume in this house. We buy when they are on sale. Lets see what today brings, I've got a plan, now to stick to it.

Mileage included a 60 minute run and a 30 minute bike thing. Wow the month is over, time to put up the Halloween decorations.

Total Mileage for the month 451----walking-running-biking-jogging. I hit my goal .

Wednesday

Clean meal, breakfast of oatmeal with skim milk, raisins, and unsweetened cocoa.

2.51 mile walk at lunch. Busy non-exercise day, barely got my 10K steps in. Tomorrow should be longer miles to add.

e4xercise was great today, 185 minutes, aerobics class walking, swimming and working on machines, I really enjoy them, poops me out, but I like them

week 2 - 31.9

Never say never - Everyone has a bad day every once in a while. You acknowledged it and you've moved on. That's life. Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

I'm struggling myself and it's mostly because of stress. But so far today, I've eaten healthy, did my ST this morning, and walked in the afternoon with Hubby.

PMs are my witching time - If I stay up late, I get the munchies. Hard to control, but when it hits, I start drinking water. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. So far this week I'm in control, but there are still a few days left.

Not a balanced meal - or day period.

Better days to come.................... and today is the last day Im doing that !

As usual, breakfast was the clean meal. Oatmeal, raisins, and skim milk, with unsweetened cocoa and cinnamon for flavor.

Tues-Weds are busy days, so the only mileage was a 2.62 mile walk at lunch.

Lunch was the cleanest of the 3 meals---mostly fruit ( natural peanut butter included) it's in a jar but it's good stuff, we are out of all fruit as of last night we will replenish today.

Mileage bike for 30 and jogged/walked for 35 on a very hilly trail. I'm Blessed.

i really think when you want to eat clean = that it helps to eat the fruit you purchased.
Today - I should have had a piece of fruit - for snack = and I had a small container of tapioca pudding instead. And I had no excuse - I had the fruit in the fruit bowl.
I did get in a 10 mile bike ride...........................and am going out to a dance lesson tonite so will get in an hour of fast dncing...............

I can do better.

Good Morning,

Monday--A mostly clean day for all 3 meals---Dinner included can spinach otherwise all clean.
I did read the Spark article yesterday "Eating Naked", it made sense about all the junk we use to enhance our meals-dressings-ketchup-soy sauce etc, etc.
Mileage 32 minutes bike and a 5k run/sprint/walk. I'm hurting a bit this morning , I have a breakfast scheduled with an old friend that should cure my aches and pains.

Have A Good Day!!!!

I walked 70 minutes again today, about 20 of those was a jog, I just am not a runner, I can walk forever, qwuite fast, but running hurts me all over emoticon
my clean eating meal had to be breakfast, I think we eat quite clean most of the time around here I always cook, and fresh as often as I can, I had oatmeal for breakfast, I used stevia (all natural) and cows milk, I am about 200 calories shy of my bottom number, so I have to figure out something else, 200 calories can be very easy

goal 33 miles weekly

week 1 - 31.2
week 2 - 31.9
week 3 - 30.9
week 4- 20.5 miles so far, I could actually make it this week.

I love how many people are coming up to their monthly mileage goal............... that will definitely be a part of the Oct challenge. Its a good element of staying fit or getting trim.

I will probably do a bike ride today instead of running-walking. My legs ache ------------- working my way back to running - but I seem to be doing alot more walking. Im not even close to the progress I made months ago when I was running on a regular basis.

I have logged into the Dr Oz million dollar challenge. I mean really - what can it hurt to join that ? and who knows... that milliion dollars is going to go to someone. Why not one of us? LMAO

Everyone have a great day..................... last week in Sept --------------- who has ideas for Oct;s challenge?

my clean eating was not that good today, breakfast I had bacon, and I know it has additives, and I made a pot roast today, with carrots, but I used dry onion soup mix in it, and I also know it is full of sodium and heavens only knows what else, but it was really good, other than those 2 things I ate clean and healthy, I think I usually do, mostly fresh food.
I walked 70 minutes 35 minutes this morning and I just got back from 35 more minutes. 4.6 miles so far, will get a bit more just in the house before bed. My caories are a bit low today, but nutrition wise not that great. way low on fiber

I tried you belly buster exercise Jazz, and I think I could do this, maybe not 100 to start, but I am game for anything that will drop inches, or firm them up at tleast

No totally clean meals today. For breakfast, the grits had some processed cheese for flavor.

It's an off day for 5K training, but I did walk 4.91 miles. Kept it brisk but comfortable, not pushing; and it mapped out to a 4.1 mph pace. If the legs stay healthy I should have no trouble hitting 20 miles this week.

I AM FINDING IT DIFFICULT JUST EATING AS MUCH AS DIET SHOWS. I USED TO EAT MUCH LESS THAN THAT (NOT ALWAYS "HEALTHILY" AMOUNTS. BUT I AM TRYING TO FOLLOW THE DIET AND STILL STAY WITHIN THE PARAMETERS GIVEN. I HAVE JUST STARTED EXERCISING AND I HAVE MY FITNESS GOALS. THIS IS A LITTLE BIT MORE DIFFICULT. I HAVE STARTED WITH WALKING 1.7 KM PER DAY, HOPEFULLY INCREASING SLOWLY SO THAT I WALK 1 HR PER DAY.
ITS SUNDAY, WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WARM SUNNY DAY BUT IT IS COOL AND CLOUDY.

when I started this challenge - my idea of clean eating just mean natural - not processed - simple things like eggs - vegetables - fruits - nuts.....salads................

making a meal out of things like that is harder than it seems. The challenge evolved to "cleaner" meals - which really means less big processed stuff like morning cereals and frozen dinners....................

Its great to keep cleaner eating in your mind and i think that its a good challenge......... regardless - its a healthier way to eat and a good habit to get in to.

Ive been walking 8 miles per day - 4 days per week. Thats alot for me........ but its doing my body good. On alternate days Im riding my bike 8-10 miles............. today will be a bike ride day.
I notice my lower back is very tight - not sure if its from walking or if its because Im doing a new daily exercise. I am standing with both feet planted on the floor - extending on hand straight out and lifting my knee up to that hand - then doing the opposite side. The idea is to keep your other foot heel on the floor. Its supposed to be a wonderful exercise for lower belly ( a very weak and flabby part of my anatomy). A dancer told me to do this 100 times a day and forget crunches and other belly exercises. This is my new daily exercise . This dance has a beautiful body ---------------------------- im taking the advice - it cant hurt !

enjoy sunday --------------------- its raining here for days - and we are supposed to get at least 5 more rainy days emoticon

That's how I'm taking it, Jen. I've noticed some people are also watching salt use, which is always a good idea. But I always use just a little sea salt; never much anyway.

Ate clean yesterday (Saturday)--veggie omlette, whole wheat toast, greek yogurt w/ almonds and strawberries, black beans in homemade clam chowder for dinner.

Ran 2.3 miles & walked 1.

I went to the very beginning of this thread to find out what clean eating was and ended up googling it. My guess it is food without too many of the additives in it. Am I right? Is that what it means?

Saturday

Breakfast at McDonald's with daughter, after 5K training. Clean meal was lunch, oatmeal with skim milk, raisins, and unsweetened cocoa, plus some almonds.

Miles walked/run this week came in at 25.75. Not bad for an injury recovery week. I was able to complete the 5K My Way running W2/D3 today, walk 1 minute run 4 minutes times 8. I did have to slow the run down to accommodate the recovering right calf.

Clean eating got me back down to the weight I had been--just think where I would have been w/o that lemon cake and stuffing with the chicken. Oh well.

Walked in building and did 10 flights of stairs. Let's call that a mile.

Got in a 3 mile walk-jog today - in the rain. It was actually refreshing.

Stayed at the very low end of my calorie range today again................ and a very clean lunch. One round green apple/.

Thursday

I did great eating clean yesterday and managed to run 2.5 miles s-l-o-w-l-y and not have any allergic reaction. I think it really was the weeds I pulled after running the last time that caused the reaction. I'm experimenting--but not with the weeds. The fall weather can just kill them off.

Getting ready to head out for a morning walk-run 8 mile event. Had my usual breakfast of 3 rice cakes - peanut butter and a cup of coffee.

I didnt get a chance to have dinner last night and I didnt starve and didnt die. Skipping a big meal ( or a formal meal everyone once in a while is not the worst thing.

its friday - hello weekend............... Im ready !

Good Morning, heading into another weekend, it's going to be a wet one. Yesterday my one truly clean meal was breakfast , all fruit. Lunch all salads, with dressing, dinner a healthy one however not clean.

Mileage included a 5k run and a 10 mile bike thing.

Friday weigh in was okay, all the work that I put into this staying healthy gig is paying off.

Have Some Fun.

I got lots of exercise in today, over 15,000 steps so far, I air boxed, lifted weights, dumb bells, and walked and jogged 80 minutes, and lots of lifting and carrying again, I had pop corn for breakfast, I did not want anything, knew I needed something so I settled for popcorn, and it was good. I made me a salad for lunch, it was clean, no dressing and left overs for dinner, but it was healthy, lots of vegetables, corn, beans, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, onions anyway, I made a vegetable medley and cooked it all and added the end of my goulash to it actually pretty good.
goal 33 miles weekly weigh-in tomorrow, I know no change for me

week 1 - 31.2
week 2 - 31.9
week 3 - 30.9 I am going down, but next week for sure

I'm in no danger of eating a clean lunch or dinner any time in the near future, but the challenge has been good for my breakfast. Typical breakfast is oatmeal with raisins and skim milk, and the challenge got me to give up the sprinkle of salt. Replaced it with unsweetened cocoa powder, or cinnamon, or cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, or cocoa and cinnamon. That's a little variety of different flavors, and no added sodium.

Today I did a short walk/run to test the injured calf. At this writing, I think it's a success; if it still feels like a success tomorrow, I'll go further on Saturday. Walking and running miles week to date, 18.4 on a goal of 20. I should beat 20 with tomorrow's lunch walk, and go over 25 on Saturday. 30 is not going to happen this week.

Walking in AM with Hubby, then ST while Hubby took a nap, another short walk, then off to lunch. After lunch another short walk.

For lunch I had a Mixed Greens salad with Grilled Salmon. That was the healthy part. Then Hubby & I shared a slice of Key Lime Pie - scrapped the whipped cream off. We also stopped off at Godiva Chocolates, where we got some Truffles. I ate 3 Chocolate Raspberry Truffles. Later in the evening I had some peaches. I went over in calories today.

Tomorrow is another day to get back to healthy living.

Goal 25 miles per week.
This week 18.4 mi emoticon
I think that is what I get when I wait until after the week is over before adding them together! Had I even looked I would have known that I was short! A lesson learned for today! And a good reason to keep a focus and a journal! I am going to bike the 6.6 mi that I am short right now to make it up!
The good news, I did have a clean meal everyday!

Good morning,

A good day yesterday for us yankee fans, a bad day for the clean meal program, dinner and lunch were close, breakfast included frosted mini wheats, not very good.
The beauty part of the challenge is it has me thinking about what I'm putting in my body.

Mileage included a 10.5 mile run and a 30 minute bike ride. JazzeJr. 20 years ago I never even tried or cared , now look at us we are all trying. emoticon emoticon

Tues-- I ran my 3 miles super fast, and caused an allegic reaction--nonstop sneezing, so Wednesday for the first time in 2 months, I logged no miles emoticon

Lesson: I'm too old to try to do what I did 20 years ago....at the same speed. I need to just slow down and be able to keep moving.

Ate clean both days.

Hi, I missed a couple of days, but same o, same o, I try to eat as clean as I can, I did not make much exercise yesterday, in fact did not get my 10,000 steps, I think I pulled a muscle, plus just felt rotten, so, not much moving, but today I went to the County Fair with a friend, and we walked bunches, I have my 10,000 plus, as far as eating clean, well, breakfast here at the house was ok, I had a corn dog, (all beef) but I know BAD, but so good, it had been a long time since I had one of those. oh well, then howabout that cup of ice cream I had later in the day, when I got home I had some goulash I made yesterday, now that is actually pretty clean, wheat pasta, fresh tomatoes, lots of fresh vegetables, gound beef,

goal 33 miles weekly

week 1 - 31.2
week 2 - 31.9
week 3 - 26.4 miles so far 1 days to make 33, well maybe next week,

NJJazz,

A challenge is a challenge and this is a great one to try and conquer. I'm not perfect, but I try to eat as healthy as possible and get my exercising done. This month I'm following a month long exercise program, so I don't have to think about what exercises to do. I just need to focus on my eating healthy. As I said, I'm not perfect and there's SO much temptation out there.

Tomorrow will be a hard one because we're celebrating our wedding anniversary with lunch out. But I'll start the day off with my exercising and a healthy breakfast.

Today's exercising got done and I'm still on track with my healthy eating. Trying to get through the week eating healthy. We'll see how well I do tomorrow.

Yanks - I agree - the clean "cleaner" eating thing is an extreme challenge for me too.
While I dont expect to eat clean every meal ----------- Im just not tht good or diciplined - I didnt think it would be so hard to have one clean meal a day. And sadly - I know that would kickstart my weight loss - or get me off this blasted plateau. Its just a nice habit to develop. Its not something to do out with friends for sure - but one clean meal a day ----------------- why can I not just get it right? Hmmmmm !
so you say thanks for this huh? I cant even thank myself for it ---------------- but Im not giving up. I think I have to come up with 5 clean meals - and make them my "clean menu" T his way I can shop so that I have those things on hand at all time and every day I just have to pick one meal from that menu and decide which meal Im going to make clean. Im full of great ideas - lousy implementation. LOL

But I am back to getting to the gym regularly and walking. Working on progressing back to running. No wonder Im on a plateau..........................

Tuesday,

Not the best for me in regards to the meal challenge. The one meal that was close to being clean was breakfast. Oatmeal-boxed--milk-container--apple. What do you think ?

Mileage--bike 10 miles---other cardio 60 min i'm not sure of the total miles

I do believe this clean meal thing has been the toughest challenge I've faced with Spark--thanks Jazz.

Well, I know that lemon cake I ate at work probably came from a box with all kinds of non-pronounceable additives, so that ruined my great clean eating for the day.

I just got 10 miles on my stationary bike. I did 5 miles last night so I have 15 for the week so far.

Lunch today was a sweet potato, black beans and some grated cheese. Had about 1/2 cup of coleslaw that has apples in it. The only thing unclean about that was the dressing on it.

Monday , must have been a popcorn day, I knocked off a large amount also watching the giant game last night.
I did pretty good yesterday with the clean meal thing, it seems like my life has evolved into one big salad.

mileage included a 5k run and a 30 minute bike ride.

Monday was good. I think all 3 meals were as clean as I can get them. Did have popcorn for snack but it was air popped. I am restricted to the bike for 6 weeks due to tendinitis in my left foot. At least I'm not in a boot & can still ride!!

Sunday

Managed to eat clean and walk 3 miles.

Monday (in 10 minutes it will be Tuesday; may as well just do Monday now)
I was sitting at my job all day, but did stairs and walking through building on breaks and lunch hour. Ate clean.

Monday

Clean meal, breakfast: Oatmeal with raisins and skim milk. Experimented with adding both unsweetened cocoa and cinnamon today. This was not a success; the cocoa overpowered the cinnamon instead of creating the blended flavor I was trying for.

Was able to walk 4.75 miles, for a total logged of 7.79 so far this week. Next two days will be fewer miles, and I'll have to see if my calf lets me run by Thursday.

So far, Monday has been a good day. Hubby & I went for our AM walk before going out. ST is planned for this afternoon and PM walk with Hubby. Back to healthy eating today - no more desserts staring me in the face.

Had a very clean lunch ------------ 2 eggs and a piece of dry rye toast. Cant get much more basic than that for me.

Starting today to get back to get my running in. Aiming for 20 miles run/walking this week. Thats a good starting point for me. Will also match those miles on my bike.

Went to my high school reunion this past weekend. ( the big 40 years). While there were plenty of people there with loads of body fat - there were also a good handful of girls who stayed trim and fit. I dont need this extra flab and boy seeing people my own age so nice and trim - was real incentive.

enjoy this monday everyone. :)

Good Morning,

A clean breakfast----a semi clean lunch---not so good with dinner, that seems to be my pattern.

about 9 miles yesterday, 4 different types of cardio in my am workout then I spent the rest of the day in front of the tv watching football.

My wife has been down south visiting her best friend this past week. It's been extremely odd with her not around.

Started the day out well with doing my ST in the morning and a walk with Hubby. Lunch was a Romanian salad with marinated Artichoke Hearts, Red & Yellow sliced Bell Peppers, Hearts of Palm, Black Olives, and sliced Red Onion, that I'd prepared for the Potluck Lunch. But dessert wound up in front of me, so I had a slice of ginger cake and a sample size of three other desserts.

Sunday, clean meal = oatmeal with raisins and skim milk, added unsweetened cocoa instead of salt.

Walked 3 miles. Hoping to do more tomorrow.

Saturday-not clean except for breakfast. No exercise either. Bad bad!!

Today will be better. Lunch was clean-homemade chicken & rice soup, dinner will be chicken & veggies.

Gotta get my ST in & ride the bike.
