I really enjoyed The Incredibles, but have yet to see the 2nd one - will probably just wait for it to come out on DVD, then buy it.

Bella - Good for you for refusing to sign off on the apartment when things weren't as promised! Kitty's right about hoping this isn't indicative of ho they maintain the building!!! How fortunate that you don't have to rush out of your old place, so can wait for the new one to be fixed properly!

That's awesome how far you were able to walk!!! I couldn't do that myself right now, having a lot of issues with swelling feet and legs which makes it really difficult and painful to walk at all. I DID make it all the way around Costco yesterday - very slowly, for sure but am still alive to tell the tale!!!

Congartulations on all the weight you have lost, but DO make sure that you are actually getting enough good nutrition into yourself!!! You don't want to make yourself sick!

Got a last minute call from older son this afternoon to see if he could drop the boys here for dinner and the evening. His daughter was coming home from spending the summer with her mother, and he had to ;drive to Toronto 9 about 2 1/2 hours from here) to get her from the bus station. However there had been a shooting in the mall where the busses go, and it was under a complete lock down. So he had to have her get off the bus at another place, which adds about an extra hour drive time each way for him.

Scary to think that if she had been on an earlier bus they could have both been in the mall when the shooting was going on!!! The boys were until about 11:30, when our DIL and older granddaughter stopped by on their way home from work to pick them up.

Hard to believe that it's already Lavour Day weekend, that the summer is over... and that School starts back on Tuesday! We have "BIG" plans for the holiday weekend.... sitting out on the deck enjoying the sun, and that's about it! emoticon

Bella - Bet they were surprised that you wouldn't sign until they got things fixed. Most people do not have a lot of choice as they have to get out of their old place. I'm glad you didn't get forced into moving but sorry that you didn't get to sign when promised. I hope this isn't an indication of how the new apartment management takes care of repairs.
My older son loves Incredibles and 2. He couldn't understand why I wasn't interested in going to see it. Not sure how many times he saw it. His one big perk to working at movie theater. wow I could only walk about 0.4 mile and that was 10 minutes when I tried walking down the block. I just check mileage with my car. will see if can do better when do treadmill at the gym maybe next week. Right now just doing bike at gym. Going to try pool tomorrow but just walking in lane mostly. see how it goes. Good for you walking a mile and WHAT another 3 # lost. You are doing so great but hope you are taking care and eating enough. Drink a lot of water especially if walking outside.

Kathy--believe me I usually don't gloss over issues with my son. They say pick your battles but I picked all of them until recently. Maybe I let a few things slide now but truthfully not much. Maybe that has been a good thing and maybe I could a/should a been a bit kinder. He sure had a bag of tricks but for example when he would say he hated me, I'd just say good that means I'm doing my job. He didn't bother to say it much. His loud crying tantrums would have me tell him that what he was upset about like me taking his DS away for a day could be a week unless he stopped. And once when he wouldn't stop crying and I told him he was going to make himself sick, he got sick and I got him a pail of water and a sponge to clean it up. He never made himself sick again. This was at age 9-10. Even after he finally stopped the tantrums at home, he still did it at school for about another year. He does have a sweet side but I don't think I see it as much as maybe others do. Of course they might not know when he is lying. He only seems to have one friend at school. So although I do in many ways feel sorry for him (although maybe not as much as he does for himself) I am not easy on him. Only time will tell if he is able to overcome all his issues enough to live a happy life.
When boys/men get steady girlfriends and especially wives, I think is when the friends they usually hang out with become less important. Good luck seeing more of your son. It is sad about your EX but he is the one missing out.

Almost the weekend. Enjoy the rest of Aug. and have a great Labor Day weekend. My plans are none but that seems to suit us most of the time.

Up date on the apartment.

Couldn't sign today.Apartment isn't ready .Kitchen Sink and stove hasn't been replaced . They wanted us to sign, with the promos that the work would be done. We refused told them I wasn't going to move my things in and then have to have workers fixing things. Of course they weren't happy means they don't get Sept. maintenance fee. Nothing they can do because they have had plenty of time to have the work done.
Now the closing date is set for Sept. 12
Good thing I am not pressured to leave here since grandson is taking over the apartment.
Oh well guess I'll just have to Go With The Flow as they say LOL.

Hi all I found a easy way to find out how far I walk

Took our Great Grandson to see Incredibles 2 . at the Ridge Hill shopping mall in Yonkers. My sister in law decides I need to walk and parks at the entrance.
I walked.
When I came home I put the address of the shopping mall and the address of the movie house in yelp Get directions and it said I walked about 1 mile. That's really good for me. Was slow going but I did it.
Here is the link I used, good way to see how far you walked.

Evening Ladies! Hope you are all enjoying this last week of the summer! It's gone by so quickly this year, or so it seems to me!

Kitty - ALL of my vegetables are in pots, mostly on the deck so that makes them easier to care for - at least for me, anyways.

Don't gloss over issues with your son, or make excises for him. My older brother was only about 18 months old when my parents adopted him, and he had already been 'damaged' by the system - been in over 14 foster homes by that young age, AND the people who had custody of him around his first birthday were actually charged with and did prison time for child abuse - think about how bad they must have been - he would have been in his mid - 70's by now, and child abuse wasn't even considered an issues back then...

My point is that he had major anger issues - although as far as I know he never got physical with either of my parents. I spent my whole life being told that we had to forgive Doug, because he was just going through ( yet another phase...) Really??? He was almost 8 years older than me, and not one of my friends would come to the house unless they knew he wasn't home. I know there was a very sensitive heart underneath all that anger and bluster, but he almost never let it show.

My ex husband was also someone who had excuses made for him pretty much his whole life - mostly by his mother and older siblings. He was never made to face up to anything or accept the responsibility for any of his actions. He ended up with a drinking problem, had trouble holding a job, and was emotionally abusive. The last time I saw him was in early 1980, and the last time he paid anything for child support was a little over 2 years later. My older 2 kids have had no contact with him at all since then - sad for him in the long run as he has no idea what wonderful adults they grew into or that he has 5 grandchildren.

I wonder what their lives would have been like if either of them hadn't always been forgiven and had excuses made for them////

I am THE queen of procrastination myself, so I understand what you are saying about getting things done "someday"! I have to break things down into very small increments so that I don't get overwhelmed, and do absolutely nothing. ( It doesn't always work out in my favour, but I do try!!)

Bella - It's so good of you to take the time to come and check in on us when you must be so busy with your upcoming move!!! Mid - September will be here before you know it! That is GREAT news about the price you got on thoe chairs for the new place! So sorry to hear about your SILs accident though, but sure am glad that she is okay, and that her car will be paid for!

Yes it IS hard with Shawn so far away and seeing him so little. He moved to the USA 12 years ago, to do his Ph. D. and while he was doing that was able to come home for a week or so in the summers as well as about 10 days at Christmas ( some of which he spent visiting with friends and not with us) but since he finished his degree, and started earning mega $$$, we only get him for about 48 hours at Christmas - and when you factor in about 1/2 of that time is sleep...... well let's just say that I don't see nearly enough of him - even if thinks he sees enough of us! emoticon emoticon

My 2 older kids are closer in age to your son - they're both over 45 - then there's 10 years before Shawn, with Meaganne being another 2 years younger than him.

We've had a busy few days with my precious wee Emily here 3 full days while Mommy has been getting her classroom all ready for school starting next Tuesday. She's really easy, but is definitely a BUSY 6 1/2 year old!!! She will be here again for the afternoon while my older DD has one of thoe nasty "lady" doctor appointments to suffer through. I think some popcorn and a movie while snuggling on the couch with Nana just might be the plan!

Hey don't put yourself down. Parenthood doesn't come with a instruction book.We do the best we can. Boys this age are not easy to get through to. Give yourself a pat on the back for deciding to take in a child. I think that is one of the most unselfish acts we can do. When this young man is a adult and has his life together it will be because of you and the fact that you didn't give up on him.
My prayers are with you and your sons.

Bella - how sweet to take time from your super moving busy life to visit us. Wow another 2 #! You are amazing.
Too bad you son didn't have the height to go with his love of basketball. My son isn't into sports and if you don't practice then you don't have the skills. He always wanted to be very tall but I think he is beginning to see some of the disadvantages of being taller than most and is happy to stay where he is. I think my younger son would like another inch or two but since he finally got taller than me about 2-3 years ago, he's ok. I'm 5' 6.75" which isn't too tall but taller than average for a women.
The garden was all my first husband's idea and work. We divorced in 1986. I have little luck with plants. A real garden is just too much work in my opinion.
Younger son is a trial but I'm not a great mom and I know it. The really great thing I have done is keep him in stable home but there have been threats. I also looked into placing him in a group home close to Houston so could visit and come home for visits but they wouldn't take him. I was a bit confused as they only took basic behavior kids but I wouldn't have felt a need if he was basic. My brother came and stayed with us for about 6 months which was a help to me when he was in 5th grade. The eating in his home is candy and chips that he sneaks in his room and I only know because I see the wrappers. He lies about it but although he lies a lot, he isn't very good at it. But things seem to be some better. Maybe because he spends most of his time in his room.
Organized seems to be a foreign concept to me. Someday I think but we all know when that day arrives. So much to do and all the time in the world to do it and still nothing gets done. That is how I see my life.
So good that you aren't rushed to move. The middle of Sept. will be here before you know it. Wishing you a smooth and easy move. So sorry about your SIL and her accident. Wonderful that nobody got hurt but just a hassle. Hope her car is fixed better than new. So nice that she took you and you got to save so much on your new chairs. Kind of time for a happy dance when that happens. Thanks for info on store and chairs. Not sure if they have a store here but will check on it.
Totally understand if not able to stop by for a while. So sweet that you caught us up on how things are going. Take care and of course keep Sparking...

Have great weekend everyone. A new week will be here soon. Enjoy!

As you can see trying to catch up with everyone. emoticon

Been a mixed up , up and down week here.
Stilll packing and discarding stuff. Think I will have to discard more when I start unpacking at the new pace. emoticon

Bad news for the week is , when my sister in law came to pick me up to to the furniture store she was in a car accident. Thank God she wasn't hurt. Only the car was. Not her fault was hit from behind. Other driver admitted to the police it was his fault. So insurance will cover cost to have the car fixed and for her to have a rent a car till then. Just a pain for her.

Good new is I save $351.90. on the new lift chairs!!! Went online to show hubby the chairs I finely picked. and saw they were $175. cheaper. each because of Labor Day sale.

ft-chair-280204808.aspx

I had put two on hold on Aug. 15 because I wasn't sure of moving date.I chatted online with sales person and was told that if I went back to the store where I brought them they would honor the sale. After Theresa spoke to the police and filed the accident report we did just that and they did honor the sale price.Needless to say I am very happy. If any of you or someone you know needs to buy any furniture I highly recommend Raymor & Flanigan.

Well that's it for now going to check in my other groups. If I don't see you for a bit it's because I am busy. Hope you all have a great week.

Hi Kathy
Happy belated birthday to your son. My son is 51 so I know exactly how you feel. Time goes by so fast.
Oh must be really hard not seeing him a bit more. I wouldn't like that at all.

Like I told KITTYHAWK1949 you guys are so lucky to have the land to grow veggies.Farmer or not it has to be exciting to get just a few things to eat. Hope mother nature is kind and gives you a few zucchini emoticon

I am truly happy for your son and his turn around. Yep there is always hope.God bless.

As parents all we can do is try and guide them, teach them good values and pray a lot. LOL

Not sure exactly when I am moving yet. The closing for the apartment is on the 29th. Then I have to have blinds installed, curtains hung and set a date for movers. I am looking at the 2nd or 3rd week of Sept.

Hope your week goes well

Hi KITTYHAWK1949

Wow 6'8" that's a tall kid. My younger son would have loved to be that tall. He loved basketball, made the team and did pretty good too, but for college ball you need to be tall.
I hope he stops at 6,8" so he can go into the air force great choice.
Raymor & Flanigan have great chairs. Go and sit on some very comfy. I didn't see any with heat and message LOL .

Wow between birds and dogs you sure don't have any luck with gardens. You are so lucky to have the land to plant, you should try again.

You really have you hands full with the younger son. God bless you and your patience not sure I would have as much. I know for sure my kids would not eat in their rooms. Dinner at the table or you don't eat . Good thing the older boy was there to stop him from hitting you. I do pray his behavior changes for your sake . I understand he has had a rough life and you are such a kindhearted women, but please do be careful. You are so right there is always hope. Maybe being away from home at college would be a good thing for him. You are so right there is always hope.
Happy that your older son brought a friend home to visit even if the house isn't up to par. Says a lot about him to me. My take on a messy house is , it's just messy not filthy, if you don't like it don't come Right now my apartment looks like a cyclone went through it LOL
Start small one corner of one room a day, don't look at everything that needs to be done. Before you know it it will all be organised.

Have a great week and keep sparking.

Hi and welcome Tema. Hope you let us know how you are doing while working on the fall challenges. Good luck.

Kathy- Thanks for sharing. Once I get started I probably paint my son in a worse light than he really is. Really his 2 main issues are being negative and being super defensive when anything is said about him. Sometimes when good things and often when joking. Considering what he has been through which I really don't know much detail it is understandable about all the anger and yet a lot that happened is because of the anger. His family moved a lot living with friends and relatives. Sounds like his older sister took care of him a lot and she was adopted and taken from him. She has reached out a few times but promises and never delivers on them. He has had counseling on and off since 4 when first put into foster care. He only get school counseling for a little over a year now since his last counselor quit on us. He had about 12 moves in foster care from 4 to 9 when he was placed with me. I remember when he was first placed, he was going to a church camp and so I started packing a bag for him the night before and he had such a look when he saw me and asked why I was packing. He of course thought I was giving him back to CPS but relaxed when I told him it was for the camp. I hope that he can over come his issues to be successful in getting a wife and career. There is always hope. He plans on college after high school and in TX since he was in foster care at an older age, they will pay tuition for state school. There is still books and other items but the big one is covered at least and since he seems to want to go to Houston University, he can live at home if money gets tight.

Older son has been having trouble with his feet and especially his big toes for a while as he is on his feet at work. The shoes he was wearing were not wide enough so recently got him new shoes that fit better. I wasn't aware of how bad it had gotten as he doesn't always complain much and if I'd ask he usually said they were better or it was ok. I think we may have gotten them on the mend with having him soak them in hot water and the new shoes. I hope so. He brought a friend to our house for the first time in a long time. My house is such a mess but if he is ok with it then I don't want to keep him from being able to invite friends. Maybe I'll finally do something about it if I'm embarrassed enough.

Take care Bella. Be sure to eat enough with all the work of moving and drink your water. Thoughts are with you.

emoticon Tema and emoticon to our little group of 'chatters'! Looking forward to getting to know you!

Bella - Just a little over a week to go before the big move! I hope everything is going well for you with all the packing, sorting and other "must do's " involved with moving. Remember to take care of yourself too, and not to overdo things to the point that you exhaust yourself!

Kitty = Rant awy, my friend! I've been there, done that, as they say - with my 2nd oldest. We had him in counseling before he was 10 My ex husband was an emotional, verbal abuser who was starting to get physical about it to before we separated, and I think Rob got the worst of it more so than my daughter did. He took a really long, long time to totally warm up to my 2nd hubby - although by the time they were both of legal age, the 2 kids changed their last name legally to his, and he's definitely 100% been Dad for most of their lives now.

We couldn't keep Rob in school - he only ever got 9 high school credits ( although as an adult he was accepted as a mature student at University and almost completed 3 years there before he ran out of money to pay for the tuition, etc.) - he though nothing of stealing from us, staying out for several days at a time, wouldn't help out around the house, or go to school, on a regular basis and brought girls into the house whenever we weren't home..... For a long time the girls he got involved with had the brain power of a dehydrated pea..... many of his ' friends' were in and out of trouble with the police, although thankfully he really did not go don that path!!! He had major anger issues - about pretty much anything and everything, although he never tried getting violent with me.

He is now in his mid - 40s, has 4 good kids from 10 to 20 years old, and is a manager at Red Lobster, where he is really well respected for his fairness and work ethics!!! Our DIL is WONDERFUL and whether he knows it or not, he is one very lucky man to have her in his life!!! He is still 'forgetful' (and still is quick to anger at times) about so many things, but has become a really kind and caring man too.

So, what I am saying I guess, is do not give up on your son yet - It took My son until he was around 25 before I could see any signs of maturity in him at all!!!

I love cherry tomatoes so that would be nice. I think about maybe doing a tomato bush or green pepper but never get past the thinking stage. When my first husband and I moved to Houston, he planted a small garden. We didn't get much as the birds got to tomatoes just before they were ready to pick. He did fairly well on the carrots but when he harvested them, he just pulled them up and put on ground behind him and when he went to gather them up he found our dog (welsh terrier) was eating them as he went. Right now our front flower bed that doesn't really have any flowers is about as over grown as at the beginning of summer. We now need to pull all the weeds again. Hope to get some flowers planted for the fall this time.

My son invited 7 so plus the 3 of us it was 10 to go to Carrabba's for Italian for son's birthday. They all talked mostly video games and had plans to go play afterward at one of the boy's home. My son is the youngest of group but one boy is only 12 days older. Most were 19 or 20 and work at Studio Movie Grill with him. Isaiah always had lots of friends and invited and got invited to each others parties and homes until we adopted his younger brother. So last year when he hooked up with a few friends and then started working at SMG it was nice to see him have a social life again. Sometimes I wish he was just a bit less social but he seems to have a good group of friends. He was 9 when he was placed with me to be adopted and he was the same sweet boy that he is now. There wasn't much of a rebellious preteen/teen years. Wish his brother had been as good but his nature was and still is contentious. He isn't as hostile and angry but still a very negative personality. When placed and adopted at 9 (he's 21 months younger than brother), his emotional age was maybe 3 or 4. He still threw temper tantrum at school as well as at home. It was a really hard time as never knew what might set him off. He had tried more than once to hit me but wasn't coordinated enough but has pushed me across the room a couple of times. A little over a year ago we were arguing about me taking his phone when he started to push me and Isaiah stepped in and hit him several times until he quit fighting. That is last time he has tried to be physical but I know it is always a possibility when he gets upset. He gets upset because I don't believe him and I don't believe him because he lies and does things to try and get back or that he knows I don't want him to but he want to like eat in his room. Sorry to go on but hard to stop once get started on younger son and his issues. He does seem to have caught up to age on his emotional age at least and maybe someday he can stop being so defensive and start being more positive.

Hot here with intermittent spells of rain so even more humid which is hard as Houston is usually humid. Everyone keep safe and cool and dry as possible. Keep sparking and enjoy the week!

Bella the move is close and know from experience that the closer it is the busier and more exhausted one becomes. Take care.

Evening ladies! Hope that you had a lovely sun filled, warm weekend!!!

We had a fair bit of heat and humidity to start the weekend off, but that slowly improved - today was quite nice out! It's all supposed to be back again tomorrow though...

Younger son - the one who lives in the States, had his birthday on Friday - he is 36 now. I can't believe that - it seems like it was only minutes ago that he was my cute, very sweet, cuddly little toddler! How the years fly by!!! It's hard having him so far away, and only seeing him for a couple of days at Christmas.

Well, a farmer I am not... we have tried growing a few vegetables this summer, and "harvested" some over the weekend..... The cherry tomatoes are pretty good, we get some of them every couple of days! We picked our single, solitary smallish green pepper, got 7 whole yellow (wax) beans - there are a few more still growing... 2 smaller green beans, have now officially given up all hope of getting any green onions or radishes, but are still holding out for even one actual zucchini - there are a good number of blossoms on the plant, but no signs of any zucchinis yet.... There are zero signs of any of the heirloom tomatoes on that plant, and only 2 little "green zebra" tomatoes on that plant....

It's been fun watching all of this stuff grow, but would have been even better if we'd actually produced more than leaves and flowers. on most of it! Guess we'll just stick to the cherry tomatoes in the future!

Kathy - of course I have no idea how tall the boys were at 2 since they were 9 before I really saw them. Isaiah said a doctor told him he'd be 7' but I hope that he has stopped at 6'8" and now that he wants in Air Force or Army so does he. What real good is being that tall unless you play basketball? My son isn't interested in sports and at 9 and 10 when I signed him up for some YMCA teams it was embarrassing to watch him. Younger son not really interest much either. Likes soccer but didn't make the team. In 7th grade he joined football team but quit before the first game (but of course after i'd bought $100+ cleats).

Wow I had no idea so many types of Collies. I think too hot for the rough to be comfortable in Houston. not sure if I've seen a smooth or maybe just didn't know it was a collie. if had any doubts about your love of the breed, not now. growing up we had a couple of Airedale terriers but not at the same time and had a welsh terrier with my first husband. We lived in an apartment and got the dog so bought a house as he needed a yard. the mini-dachshund, Pebbles was my older boy's choice and we got Micky given to us without much info about him (at least not factual info).

Bella - I also do some shopping on line and it is easier. I especially do shoe shopping on line as big sizes not always available in the stores. I have been thinking about getting a lift chair but not sure exactly what to look for. oh and with a massage and heat for when come home from shopping and my back is acting up.

You are doing so good losing but might want to eat on high end since so much exercise associated with the move. I know it will be nice when finished and can relax some. We totally understand why you are not able to chat as much but once you are moved and have time we'll be here waiting.

love to all. keep sparking. Have a great weekend

I am really surprised at the weight loss. I think it's due mostly to all be bending packing. emoticon 2 more pounds emoticon
I have been tracking food and trying to keep on the low side. No carbs. Except one slice of Pizza a week. emoticon
Well see what happens 2 months from now after all the unpacking and I am settled. Will probably add more movement. emoticon
I will try my best to come to chat more often.

You all have a fantastic week

Hi Kathy

Oh what beautiful dogs you have. I love dogs all kinds. My Dad raised Shepards. Growing up that's all we had. When I got older I went to the shelters to get dogs.Wish I could still have a dog but it wouldn't be fair to the animal.
I know it must be heartbreaking for you losing your pets. So sad.
Wow where you live that is a lot for the money .The city is so expensive, I am thriled he will be living here, very close to transportation for him to get to work and his son already has a few friends here.
So sorry about your daughter, that sure does make things more difficult for her.I'll keep her in my prays for healing as well as financial.
Happy Birthday to your grandson, love hearing about family gathering.
Enjoy you day !!!

Hi KITTYHAWK1949

Going school shopping I remember it well fun but exhausting. I shop mostly online for the grand kids and grate grandchild much easier and you can check out all the sales and not get tired !!!. LOL

Yes been very busy. Went to the new apartment, measured all the spaces where I am going to put the big pices of furniture I plan on bringing. God new is they will all fit. Drew out a diagram for movers so they know where to put everything.
Floors still weren't done, but they guaranteed me they would be by signing date.
Went to local hardware store to order blinds., went very well just need to give them 2 days notice and they will come and install them.
Also went to Raymore and Flanigan and order 2 recliner lift chair for hubby and me. So comfy and they help you stand up.
Still packing, but seeing progress. emoticon
Been coming on Sparks mostly to track and such., you are right once the move happens and I get all the unpacking done things will calm down.
You have a great day.

Bella - I imagine you're pretty busy now with all the packing etc. required for your big move! You have my deepest sympathies on that ordeal, my friend! Take care that you don't overdo things !!!

Kitty - It's funny just how the kids turn out isn't it! There's an old theory that when the child is a2 years old it will be approximately 1/2 of it's adult height. My younger son was 3'6" when he was that age, and as I said, he topped out at about 5'8"... I had been ready to have the next Magic Johnson, basketball super star in my house! emoticon emoticon

When most people think of "Lassie" they just think of a brown dog with lots of white on it. However, the Collie actually comes in 5 different colours.

Brinx, Like Lassie is a Sable and White - which can be anything from a very washed out beigish shade to an almost blackish brown with white. The sable and white MUST have both eyes brown.

Gryffindor is a Tri - colour ... black, tan and white ( pretty self explanatory) Tri's also must have both eyes brown.

Solo - ia a Blue Merls. Blue merles will have sable markings similar to the tris, but where the tri is black the blue will be anything from a silvery greyish blue to an almost blue black, and will be spotted as well. The merles can either both eyes brown, both eyes blue, or one of each colour.

Then there are Sable Merles, which will be sable and white, but may have some spotting as well. Most of the time though the spotting is most evident as baby puppies, and tends to fade as they get adult coats. The Sable merles can also have both eyes brown or both blue, or one of each.

Lastly... there are Colour Headed Whites. They will have the head colour of one of the other colours ( along with appropriate eye colour too) BUT ideally NO MORE THAN 30 % of the body will have any colour. They will often have some body spots.

On top of all this.... the Collie comes in 2 different coat varieties - Rough ( which is what I have and prefer!) and Smooth. For the Roughs, think Lassie again, or check out some of the pics in my gallery. The Smooths are coloured the same as the Roughs, but have a short coat with some slightly longer hair on the legs and tail.

Kathy - a size 12 is kind of big especially for height but is probably the largest where you can find a lot of shoes in stock at the shoe stores. You can find 13's but not as many. Last time height measured was about 6 months ago and was 5' 11", Just forget about finding 16's in stock and he was 6' 8" last time measured which was about a year ago. He recently has been thinking about going into military but not sure how that will go as seems 6' 8" is as tall as you can be and not sure he hasn't grown in last year.

I didn't remember about your 2 younger dogs/puppies. That doesn't mean you hadn't said anything. Micky also has heart issues and in addition to almost no teeth, he doesn't hear or see very well. Sometimes when he is sleeping and not moving, I worry if he is ok until he raises his head. Very beautiful pictures but the coloring on Solo seem a bit different/unusual.
I wasn't aware that your DD had trouble riding in public transportation. That does make it hard for her. I'm sure that does make it discouraging for her. And if it is legal or not I'm sure some discrimination happens.

10 year old boys can get excited about gifts. My boys were 9 when I adopted them so I did get to experience them at that age, My older son was especially great that whatever happened it was the BEST. I loved that and the holidays/birthdays. Glad you got to enjoy that.

Bella - know you are so busy with move and family and friends. Hope all is going smooth,

Have a great week everyone.

WOW Kitty, your boys must be pretty tall with feet that size//1 Our younger son wears a size 12 shoe, but stopped growing really early - probably because he almost never ate breakfast or lunch when he was a teen - he topped out at about 5'8" - just has big feet. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes it was so hard losing the 2 dogs within such a short time, especially the 2nd one - she went with NO warning whatsoever. The "baby" who is now our oldie seems to be in mostly good health and spirits - but since his issues are heart related, yes I do worry about him. I can't remember if I told you - but we got 2 "poopies" back in March - they are litter mates, and just over 7 months old now. They are Collies of course emoticon and both are different colours.

This is "BRINX" - the old boy, taken last Christmas

This is "GRYFFINDOR: (as in Harry Potter)

This is "SOLO" (as in Han Solo - Star Wars)

The puppies were about 5 1/2 months old in these pictures, but I don't have any newer ones of them.

Bella - That is so nice for your grandson to have a home that is chock full of memories, and so much cheaper than what he would have to pay elsewhere in the city!! He is a very lucky young man to have this opportunity! Way to go Nana for giving him this chance! He should move to my little corner of Canada though.. our place is a semi - detached - about 1200 sq. feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one floor with a fully finished basement with a huge deck, on a 200' deep lot, and I only pay about $100 more for the mortgage, and property taxes than you do for your apartment!

Congratulations on disposing of that pesky 10 lbs!!! You should be so proud of yourself for not gaining while you are going through all the stress involved with a big move like you are getting ready to make! Well Done!!

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts from both of you about my Meaganne! She really is a good "kid" ( even though she is in her 30s!) I really don't know if she is still appliying for jobs, or if hse has given up, because of course these days everything seems to be done on line.

Yes I think she would move if necessary, BUT she does NOT drive, which makes that more of a challenge. Because of her spinal injury, she doesn't have enough movement at times, in her neck to be able to turn her head to check mirrors, so has never gone for her license. She cna't easily ride on the public transit because the buses tend to shake so much that it puts her back and / or / neck into spasms.

I DO wish she would find something, somewhere though, just for her own sense of freedom, and independence! I also love having her at home, she does so much for us around the house. She is my rock1

Enjoyed supper up at offspring #2s house yesterday. We had a combined birthday aprty for his wife (the 6th) and younger boy (the 12th). She was totally surprised, which was nice, and our grandson was thrilled with all the attention... AND gifts! He is 10.

Hi everyone and hope you are all well. I'm doing ok. got so tired and a little sore yesterday going shopping mostly for school stuff. Still plan on ordering shoes on line tomorrow for the boys while it is still tax free. with size 13 and especially 16 shoes it isn't easy finding much choice. At least my youngest doesn't tear everything up like when he was younger so don't mind getting them for him.

Kathy--I read about your dogs on a blog you responded to and I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your dogs. It is heartbreaking when they pass. the two so close together. the one left being older and with health problems has to worry you also. praying for you and your family to be richly blessed and find peace. I worry almost every day about Micky since he is older and has heart issues. at least he seems to be better with his back/neck issue and not in pain. Pebbles turns 10 later this month. how quickly time passes.

Bella--how nice for your grandson. in addition to the nice, big for a low price apartment, you know that he has all kinds of great memories from visiting there. also good that you don't have any pressure getting out on a certain day. Congrats on the 10 # in a month. I know you have earned every ounce with the work of packing and sorting stuff. and really good for you taking a rest day. I know you'll stay busy at least until you are all moved and then can maybe slow down some.

Have a blessed weekend all you great SP and friends.

Been such a busy this week.
Son and grandchildren came on Sunday,
Monday - friend called and wanted to stop by, apartment was a total mess so had to straighten up before she came.
Tuesday - finished reading and shredding the box of old bills, recites and bank statement , must have read and shredded another 1000 pieces of paper if not more.,
Wednesday Heather the lady that comes to help me came. We cleared out the kitchen cabinets, washed , dried warped in paper and packed all dishes and glassware that we won't be using for the next month. We also cleaned out and packed another hall closet.
Thursday - doing nothing - relaxing - emoticon

emoticon weigh in on Wednesday and lost another 3 lbs. That makes 10 lbs in 1 month. I know it's going to slow down but for now I am very happy.

Still lots more to do here for the move.
I don't have a time when I have to out of here as my grandson is going to keep this apartment, because the rent is only $1,100.00 for 3 bedrooms and a dining area. That is unheard of in New York City ( it's only because I have lived here for 48 years)
My closing for my new apartment is on August 29th.
So depending on when I am all packed and I can arrange for movers I'll be going.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hi Kathy

So sorry to hear about your injury. Do hope you are on the mend and in less pain.

What the. !!! Really !!! Can't believe people have told you to kick your daughter out. To me that would be the last resource if the child was on drugs and as a parent you were enabling them to keep using, not for a child that just can't find work !!!I do not envy the young people today, things are much harder for them than it was for us. I will keep her in my prayers, that a job offer will come her way

Hope Mother Nature chooses to be kinder and stops the rain for a bit , so you can get outdoors for some fresh air.

So sorry about your fingers. Really painful as you move and use your hands so much. Glad it is getting better and they weren't broken.

I am surprised she can't find something with those major and minor. My first thought was CPS or adoption agency as they seem to always need social workers. I think there is a big burnout in that job. I totally agree with supporting her as it isn't like she's sitting on couch playing video games. Does she apply for jobs not in your area or doesn't want to move? As long as she is trying, I'm sure she'll get something. I will pray as I know you have been. Once she gets a job if she wants to teach hopefully the job will have some added help for school. Good teachers are always needed. Every state is different but can she do substitute teaching?

We have had a few hours of rain several days this week but seems to dry up fast once it ends. It is nice to go to some movies. At first I wasn't sure because normal seats are so small but once I went and found out I could be comfortable I was happy.

Bella - I'm thinking about you and all that work moving. When do you have to be out of your current place? When you can drop by and let us know how you are doing.

Have a great day and weekend is almost here. emoticon

Evening ladies! Sorry I haven't been here... I SMASHED 3 fingers into the wall on Monday afternoon and have been feeling miserable since. Nothing is broken, but was all swollen , very sore and stiff, Things are slowly getting better!!!

Meaganne got her B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Criminology. She always wanted to do some sort of police / detective type work but with the spinal injury she couldn't pass the requisite physicals. So, she thought about teaching in the penal system would be a good alternative BUT couldn't afford to stay in school to get her B. of Ed. and go to Teachers College. She has applied for pretty much anything that is offered - even WalMart greeter, or cleaning toilets - just to get a job of some sort. No luck though!!!

We've had people tell us we should just kick her out of the house and "force her to stand on her own 2 feet".... and do what? Live on welfare? She does a lot for us to help"pay her way" - cooks, cleans, takes the bulk of the work involved with the dogs ( bathing, trimming feet and nails, etc.) She even supports my "Christmas ( and other holidays) habit"!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Bella - Good for you with sticking to your plan while eating out! That can be a real challenge to do!

Kitty - That is so nice that you can get in to see the movies for free! Christopher Robin is one that I've been hoping to see. That is so GREAT that you have lost those 10 pounds!!! It's a lot harder than most people think it is to lose weight. Be proud of your accomplishment!

It's been a whole of thunder, lightening, and RAIN here for much of the last 3 or 4 days. My grass and gardens look good, but I feel like I am starting to get mouldy myself form all the moisture emoticon emoticon The humidity that has gone with it has been brutal, so I've been mostly staying indoors in the AC.

My oldest son works at Studio Movie Grill and Mon-Thur can go to movies free with family or friends. Today we went to see 'Christopher Robin'. Younger son didn't want to go. It was a cute movie but not really a great one. It is nice there as they have rows that have real comfortable desk chairs and a long table. They serve food and my boys enjoy going and eating there. The food isn't cheap but son gets about a 30% discounts on that. I like that I can go and be comfortable as normal theater seats are too small.

Good news when I weighed today. I finally have lost my first 10 pounds of the 120 I started out to lose. The not so great news is it took 90 days to do it. So at this rate I can hope to be at my goal weight in 3 years. LOL I'm going to be happy about every 10 pounds I lose no matter how long it takes and this time 'as God is my witness' (like Scarlet in Gone with the Wind) I will not gain it back.

Bella - good for you to stay on plan. I plan to do good and get doggie bag when I go out but usually not so great so try to limit going out. We use to eat out a lot. I'll get pizza or pasta from Pizza Hut for the boys when they ask but I no longer eat it with them. Each of them can eat a whole medium pizza by themselves. I really have for the most part stopped all my collecting but sometimes I see something and have to remind myself that I no longer collect that.

Have great week all!

Hi Kathy

Oh so sorry about your daughter not being able to find work. Happens here all the time. Parents and students in debt because of high tuition cost and then students can't find work so sad.
My younger son had the same problem, business major.
He was lucky to meet a man at our church who runs a construction company down town Manhattan. He took him under his wing and taught him carpentry. James took some classes at night also. It's been about 28 years and he worked his way up to Supervisor of the work sites. He loves it and says he is very happy the way things turned out.
I wish her luck, I don't envy the kids today, between jobs and high cost of housing., I don't know how they make ends meet. Your daughter is luck to have you guys.

Wow 80 Collie ornaments and others are you sure we are collectors and not hoarders. LOL
I also collect bells, I have a china closet full of them ( when I pack them away for storage I will count them) My given name is Isabella, but everyone calls me bella. When the boys were little their school had Christmas and Mothers day sales. You guessed it they brought me 2 bells. That started everyone started to by them for me LOL
I guess we are Collectorholic emoticon

Hi--My name is Kathy but everyone usually calls me Kitty at SP because of my username. When I first worked at AT&T we all usually went by our initials and a handle so that when we gave our sign to others over the phone they wouldn't misunderstand. So I started using Kitty Hawk for KH my initials Everyone including me seemed to like and easily remember Kitty Hawk so I often use it. It was always funny to me that the person who trained me was MR going by Muddy Rivers but techs would often call and ask for Dirty Water. Not sure why they mixed it up like that. Good thing we didn't have any DW in the group. So keep using Kitty as would be confusing to have 2 Kathys.

Truthfully I think we are just going to wait for next summer for him to get a job. He'll start filling out applications in May instead of waiting until school ends and I think he might be willing to start with fast food. We'll see how it goes next year. What did your youngest major in and what type job is she looking for? Doesn't her college have any placement help? My college helped me get my first teaching job. It has to be hard on her.

I almost got a house with huge back yard when looking and got this one instead. I often wonder if I made the right choice but too late now. I'm sure it isn't really the house's fault that I have it so clustered.

My last boyfriend called me a "Collectaholic". Collect (or use to) books, hats, figurines, anything elephant, door stops, eggs and probably other things I've forgotten as they are packed away.

Have a great weekend.

Kitty - Any chance of him getting something where it only involves a few hours a week, after school? Or perhaps doing some sort of volunteer work that would give him some kind of experience?

When she was a teen, youngest DD (Meaganne) spent 3 summers working at one of the Easter Seals camps. It was a great experience for her, but then came University - she graduated 7 years ago and has not been able to find any kind of job whatsoever since then. She is always either "over educated or under experienced"...

It's really hard, you tell your kids that they need to get all the education that they can, and then there are no jobs available..... So, the poor kid is stuck living at home with us, and will be 34 in a few weeks - I feel so sorry for her, but do love having her here - she helps out a lot with her Dad.....

Our house is also just one floor, with a full basement - nothing fancy, just a semi - detached, BUT the back yard is over 120' deep and fully fenced, which had a lot do with what we liked about it. When we did all the reno work 2 years ago, one of the best things was bringing the washer and dryer up from the basement and into my office. It means I do NOT have to go downstairs at all anymore!!!

Bella - It sounds like you have some wonderful helpers for your move! I laughed when I read your remark about all the Barbie dolls, kind of thinking who in their right mind would have 225 of anything... then thought for a second and went ME!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think I'm at almost 80 Collie ornaments just for the Christmas tree with almost another 20 Collie ornaments that don't go on the tree - most of which are custom made - and that doesn't even include the "everyday" type Collie figurines, custom stained glass or wooden pieces, salt & pepper shakers / soap dispensers.. never mind framed art as well.

Of course, then there are all my CDs, DVDs, books and many totes full of seasonal (holiday) decorations too. Apparently I should introduce myself like they do in some of those therapy programs by saying "Hello, my name is Kathy and I have a serious COLLECTION issue" emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi KITTYHAWK1949 ( is your name Kitty? )

Good planing on your part, mortgage being paid off soon will be a plus.
Nice that you revived a retirement package. Are you enjoying retirement?
.I hated to retire. I loved my job. I worked for Marriott corp. as a manege at Manhattan College.
Besides running one of the main cafeterias I did therm dinners ( witch I loved). The most rewarding part of my job was working wit the special ed children trying to train them for jobs. Wasn't always possible , but truly proud of the ones that were able to get hired.
I do wish I could have stayed but health problem prevented it.
I will have to rent a storage space myself at least until a two bedroom apartment become available. LOL

Hi Kathy ( your name is Kathy right LOL)

18 years is a pretty long time to live somewhere. Sounds like you have a pretty nice place.Hubby never wanted a house, he's not the Mr. fix it type. Co-Ops are great always a handyman around to fix anything for a few bucks. LOL
Yes I have help, in fact Heather our lady that comes to help me clean the apartment came today. I have about 225 Barbie dolls that I have collected over the years. We cleaned the boxes and packed all of them. She will be coming twice a week to help. I have hubby, my son ,grandson and sister in law ( who is more like a daughter to me )who have been and will continue to be of help. Thank God.
Looks like you had some really good help with your hubby's birthday celabration. Happy it went well for you.

never want to move again! as I was older when I bought this house, I only looked at one story homes. I almost have my 30 year mortgage paid off which was my plan although I wasn't planning to retire as soon as I did. they surplus the job I liked at the location I liked and I had to take a job I hated at a location that I hated. well maybe not hate but really, really disliked. lucky for me they offered retirement packages after only about a year on the new job. someday before too long I am planning to rent storage shed to put all the boxes of paper and other junk in so my house will be nice and not so piled up. I can dream...

Kathy - Did you ever think to put it back on your eldest and ask what they had in mind to do for her dad? probably not as you seem to nice to do that. My younger son wanted to get a job this summer but he didn't want fast food and that is usually where a teen can get first job with no experience. now it is only about 3 weeks until school starts so really a little late for a summer job.

Bella - good luck on getting everything done and an easy move. are there such a thing as an easy move?

Have a great rest of the month of Aug.

Those ARE long times to live in one place indeed! We've been in this house for 18 years now.

Bella I don't envy you having to go through everything, deciding what to keep and what to let go, then packing it all up for your big move. I hope that you have LOTS of helpers to give you a hand!! Your new place sounds like it will be a good choice for you!

I would love to have somewhere with no stiars, but we really can't afford to move - prices are so high these days, and anything that we could afford would be a real fixer - upper I think. In any event, DH is NOT at all willing to even consider moving, which is why we spent a 'gazillion'$$$ 2 years ago on renovations and repairs. The location is good, the back yard is fully fenced for the dogs and is BIG, so there are real pluses to staying here.

Had a much busier weekend than I had planned. Eldest offspring wanted to know what we were doing for her Dad's birthday (Sunday) - so ended up with 14 people here to celebrate it. That meant spending much of Saturday running around getting food and supplies for the party, then doing all the prep work too. Thank heavens for our wonderful youngest who still lives here at home, because she can't find any kind of job - she does so,so much to help!!!

Everyone seemed to have a lovely time, the noise was deafening, and the quiet once they were all gone was definitely wonderful! emoticon emoticon emoticon The offspring that lives in the USA even remembered, and called to wish his Dad a happy birthday.

wow 48 years in one place is awesome. I was trying to think of the longest I have ever lived in one house and I think it might be the one I'm in for about 12-13 years. Houston is for sure the longest I have lived in one city as moved here in May of 1983. growing up we moved about every 3 years. Dad is watch maker/repair and kept getting better jobs so we moved. My first husband also liked changing jobs so we moved a few times in the 15 years we were married. We divorced in 1986.

Hope you have a good move (as good as moves can be) and really enjoy your new place.

Have a great day everyone!

Yes it will be a big adjustment. My sister in law ( who is more like a daughter to me) lives in this that why I chose to move there. Also my book club girls all live in this neighborhood, although they are all 25-30 years younger than LOL
I am.I will join the church, they have senior groups, so I am sure I will meet women in my age bracket.

Wow, Nana, what a huge change! I think it's great you're doing what you can for your health, but I imagine there will be some grieving over the loss of your old place. 48 years is a long time to live in one place!

Been really busy, cleaning out closets sorting through things and getting rid of stuff and packing the rest.
I live in New York City. Have been living in the same apartment for 48 years since I have been married. It is a walk up budding. I live on the 3rd floor which means 6 flights of stairs. Due to health the stair are getting too much for me. So moving to a brand new building with a elevator. A bit sad, really like the charm of the older building. Will miss the neighbors. But can alway visit and them me and am looking forward to making some new friends.

Been sticking to my diet and cleaning and packing is good exercise.
Have a Great Day all

So sorry about the puppy, do hope it's not something serious.

I buy the lite vanilla protein cupcake powder on line from Puritan Pride. The vanilla flavor goes well with any fruit. 10g of protein and only $6.99 a can .

Kathy---you had asked about Micky and glad to report he is doing well. Vet had said 2-4 weeks in crate and kept him in about 3.5 weeks before let him sleep in his cage. I'm still keeping him on the floor and not letting him jump if I can help it. I have seen him lift his leg some when just standing but walks on it ok. So sorry to hear your pup is having a hurt leg. Hope it isn't too major and heals fast.

U-verse is AT&T TV and internet service (those are 2 I have but they also have phone service that you can bundle. I just have my old landline. I thought it funny that all three were out at same time if not connected. I finally got ticket put in for phone and was a little upset when said fix by Sat. at 8pm but then a few hours later the repairman came. turns out it was a piece of equipment that they don't even carry any longer but the repair tech. was able to wire around it and all service seems to be working fine now. BTW I worked 35 years for AT&T but was in the private line side for all but the last year when I did 911 install testing.

Have a good day all. Doing a mountain of laundry today. Drier still broke but wash at home and then take to nice new Laundromat.

Evening ladies! What a lovely sunny day today!!! Lots of breeze, not too hot, and not overly humid either! Perfect for sitting out on the deck watching the beasties playing, and even got in some much needed weeding to boot!

Kitty - Hope they get it fixed for you! You are right about stuff always behaving whenever the repair gurus are looking at it!!!

Strawberries are not good for anything but making them into a sauce or smoothie, or for baking once they've been frozen. Raspberries are better than strawberries, but still aren't as nice as fresh - obviously! LOL

Bella - I'm with you on yummy smoothies, but we ususally just use the fruit, some juice and maybe a little yoghurt (+ ice cubes) - not protein powder. We might have to try buying some and see what it's like!

Off to the vet in the morning with one of the puppies - he's hurt his front leg again, and I'm starting to think x-rays might be in order, to see if there are any underlying problems with his bones or joints. Hoping he desn't need something more expensive like an ultasound, but I do NOT like the fact that he keeps saying that same leg is ouchy!!! Does not bode well for the future, in my opinion.....

I don't know what a U-verse is LOL , but I do hope they fix it for you.

I like the grapes frozen, but mostly use frozen fruit for smithies. Love smoothies.
Cut up a apple or a banana (any other fruit) cup of 1% milk , one scoop of protein power, equal add about 10 ice cubs blend on crush ice setting in blender, You have lunch. You almost feel like you are cheating on you diet.

our U-verse has been acting up so will try to get something written and sent before it goes down again. they are to send a tech tomorrow morning and I wonder if it will act up while they are here as that is usually what happens when repairman comes. funny how often it (any service or appliance) work fine while they are here.

I walked to school except for last 2 year of high school when outside city limits so got to ride school bus. we moved a lot so some walks longer than others and able to go home for lunch sometimes and others bought school lunch. not sure I even remember how long the walks were but always too long in winter. it is true that kids today usually don't walk but it isn't as save a world today as it was when we were young.

I tried freezing grapes and strawberries but didn't care for eating them frozen or once thawed. I really don't do smoothies so that probably make a difference. I am eating a lot more fruit and veggies as get them already cut up at store. makes a big difference for me and even the boys eat more. I need to make a store run to buy more.

enjoy your day rain or shine. we've been in 100's recently. wouldn't mind some rain but please not a whole week which is how it seems to go.

We usually freeze the strawberries and raspberries to use later for sauces or in smoothies, etc. The raspberries are okay just for eating if they are still a little frozen. This is the first time I've done my own blueberries - we usually just buy them pre-frozen - so this is an experiment for me. I love blueberries in a glass of orange juice, sometimes adding a bit of plain yoghurt just to cut some of the acidity of the OJ.

Grapes are definitely great for freezing - they retain their shape, texture AND sometimes I think the flavour is even better when they're frozen!

Hi Kathy
Have you frozen berries before? I tried with blueberries, they were OK for smoothies but not for eating too soft.

NANA - Yes we did. I grew up in Toronto ( Ontario) - in the suburbs, and it was a LONG wlk to and from both my public school and junior high. You were not really allowed to stay for lunch in public school, unles you had a note for something special, but in junior high as well as high school, most ate their lunches at school.

I always walked to school - 35 minutes one way for public school, 30 minutes for junior high, and we had moved by the time I went to high school, so that was only a 20 minute walk! Snow days were few and far between - but boy oh boy, did we kids ever enjoy them!!!

Got a flat each of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries from one of the local berry farms. We already have got most of the strawberries and raspberries individually frozen and bagged up to keep in the freezer for the winter! Blueberries will be going the same routs too.

Then, we can just pull some out whenever we want for baking or smoothies or just plain snacking!

It was a nice day today - no rain which was very welcome after the past few days of non - stop torrential downpours... BUT now we're in the midst of a big thunder / lightening storm with more rain AGAIN!!! emoticon

HI KATHYSCOLLIES
WOW you had to go back and forth for lunch too?
I had a 5 block walk ( which is about 1/4 mile. We brought our lunch so didn't have to go home for lunch. Junior high I had to walk to the train 2 blocks, take the train then walk 4 blocks to the school.Again we brought our lunch. High school I had to tak a train and then a buss which took over a hour and a half to get to school.
Also in rain ,sleet and snow. I don't remember but a few time school close because of weather..

Nowadays the kids think they are hard done by - for almost everything.... but we never had snow blowers, or got driven to school like they do today! That 35 minute long walk to and from school morning, lunchtime and after school was finished for the day, in ALL weather was brutal sometimes!

It's been raining here pretty much all weekend long. While I know how much the farmers, as well as the grass and gardens all need the moisture I would have like to have at least a little time out on the deck!

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend!

To INTUITIVEEATING,
I live in New York City. You are so right. When we were kids , we got mad at the supper for shoveling the side walk, because it meant we had to walk 5 blocks to the park to play in the snow.He would get mad at us kids for knocking down the piles he made by the curb, because it ment he had to re shovel again
. Poor man, so sorry Mr Travis..

Evening ladies!

I'm glad that I noticed that the number of posts on this thread had changed - had thought that we just weren't having a July chat!

Kitty - I think you have a great idea about it just being a CHAT thread without having to have it as a monthly one!
By the Way - how is Micky doing now?

We've had several lovely "celebration" meals with various member s of the family over the last couple of weeks. Last week offspring #1 treated us to dinner at the Mandarin ( Chinese Buffet) for our anniversary, then everything else has been done at our house.

The 17 year old grand was here for the night yesterday - had a nice visit with her. She leaves in a few days for another province to spend the rest of the summer with her Mother, so it was good to see her. She won't be back in town probably until school starts up again in September.

We had TWO BIG EVENTS this week.... 1st - the 6 1/2 year old FINALLY lost her first tooth - she was convinced that she would "be an old lady with a baby in her tummy before she ever lost a tooth"!!! She is Nana's best buddy! emoticon emoticon

The 2nd BIG EVENT happened night before last when the IDIOT puppies decided that they were really, really truly needing to play with one of those darn SMELLY black and white "kittys"..... The old guy got one little whiff of skunk smell and made a beeline for the house - he's been down that raod before and knows enough not to go near a skunk.

So, 10:30 at night, puppy # 1 was in the bathtub, looking very sad and sorrowful, while his brother was howling his little heart out from his crate - maybe thinking that the brother was getting some kind of wonderful treat??? He wasn't happy when it was his turn in the tub!

All is forgiven now, but NO PLAYING WITH BLACK AND WHITE KITTYS has been added to all the other NO commands they get - No eating the fuzzies, No biting your brother's ears ( or other body parts), No tormenting the Old dog, etc, etc, etc!!!

We had our first feed of local corn on the cob tonight - it was great! I love summer time when all the fruits and veggies are fresh!!!

Inspiring Movement class today wasn't much fun. I was the only one who couldn't do some of the movements (putting foot on opposite knee). after class I was wiped out and have slept most of the afternoon. The previous puzzle was replaced with a new one and I worked on it some. I think it is going to be really hard as it seemed to me some pieces almost fit together and when someone misplaces a piece it will be hard to find where it all went wrong. Going to try a writing class next Tue. I use to write poems and short stories neither of which were all that good but fun. Haven't done any writing in a long time.

I was too tired to eat lunch so probably going to eat soon. I just need to be careful and not over do it. Have a great weekend everyone.

@KITTYHAWK1949 , we were kids. We would sit out on the roof overhang outside the second-floor window and look at the beautiful snow. Once it was cleared enough to go outside, we would go sledding, make snow angels, etc. Never occurred to us how much work and trouble the snow was causing our parents.

Great job NANA! I also enjoy the fall and different colored leaves.

Wow I wonder why you would want out of the house if the snow is that high as wouldn't everything be buried and therefore closed until some of it melted?

had a good time today at senior center. worked on big jigsaw puzzle before and after enjoying Laughter Yoga class.

INTUITIVEEATING it doesn't look like you are exactly in the ice and snow area if live in S. CA. I'm originally from MO. and had to walk to school in ice and snow many days. I love Houston and the no ice or snow most years. when we do get some it doesn't last long.
I really need to exercise but it seems my walks have gone to 0 the last several days. maybe I can start back doing some weeding in front.
Have a nice day everyone

looks like this is June AND July chat. Maybe we just need a "CHAT" thread and not bother updating each month. Hi NANAFITZPATR1. Always great to see some updates on here. This month has kind of been one step forward and three steps back for me. I'm still here and each time I fall down i'm getting back up.

Have a great day today and a great week. Enjoy your summer. The heat isn't always fun but I really hate the cold so I'm ok with the hot.

welcome INTUITIVEEATING! the more the merrier. we all need motivation. congrats on the first 10. hope to join you on that soon but it always seems with me it is 2 steps forward and 1 step back which makes for slow progress.

Kathy--thanks for comment on my blog. not sure if Micky will get to where he can walk as well as he could before but even if not, he'll be ok. I do give the dogs Supreme Healthy Max Hip & Joint dog treats. have been giving for a while to both dogs. they have glucosamine which is the same as in the joint pills my oldest son takes and recently I have been taking for my knees. might check out the meds you said you give your dogs. where do you get it?

well my younger son is hungry so guess i'll go heat up the chicken and rice. have a great weekend and guess next post will be JULY CHAT.

Brenda - Nice to meet you! Your job does sound interesting!

Kitty - I know what you mean about how quickly the weeds can get out of control. It's so frustrating!!!

Torrential rain again here today, off and on. I have about 15 new perennials / shrubs that I bought a couple of days ago that are still waiting to be put into their new homes in the gardens, but it's just too darn wet to do any kind of yardwork. It was also too warm and HUMID to be outside for more than a moment or two - between bouts of rain...

My DD Meaganne and I had lunch at Red Lobster today with one of our SPARK friends. We were treating her to a birthday lunch. It was such a nice time - we sat and talked ( and ate!) from 11:30 to almost 2 :30 She's one of the group of 7 local sparkers who have all become good friends.

Welcome Brenda. we can always use more people to chat with. Sounds like an interesting job. It is usually around 80 here when I take the dogs out in the morning and at bedtime so in between it gets in mid to high 90's. I need to do some weeding. our front 'flowerbed' was mostly knee high weeds in May. little by little my sons and I got them mostly pulled but time to work on again as they are growing back. Hope to work on it tomorrow with the boys.

Hi everyone! I guess I just need to jump in! I'm not new to SparkPeople. Just new to this group. I work from home, so I'm taking a break from breaking the hearts of software developers (I test their code before it is released to the public). It's a bit overcast here, but I'm hoping to get out and mow my 1/8th of an acre yard a little later (it's 76 here at the moment at 4pm EDT) and maybe do some weeding, then wind down the day with some light gentle yoga.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

Kathy--it is the days and days of rain that is so hard. Better when it is a day now and then but the weather doesn't seem to listen to what we want and just does it's own thing. My dogs are both short hair and don't get any wetter than they have to so just shake it off. My older dog (per vet between 13-15) that we've had about 3.5 years is having trouble walking today. he seemed fine last night so not sure what is wrong. He's getting around a little better than when he first got up. will see how he does and if not better in a day or so will see about taking to vet. always something.

Deborah--hope you are doing well and keeping cool. Not sure when the event you are dreading is happening but just try to stay as positive as you can. My 17 year old who will be in 11th grade drives me crazy a lot of times and I know that the better I feel overall, the less he stresses me. I understand how hard that is in practice.

Deborah - Hope you are feeling better by now!! Breathing - or rather having trouble breathing- can be so frightening!!!

Kitty - My younger son goes to Houston once in a while for work, and he says it's a beautiful place.

Our weekend was quiet too - nothing but rain, rain and more RAIN for the last 4 or 5 days. Everything does look lush and green, but I hate having to constantly blow dry the 2 puppies and the the old guy too.

It's supposed to really heat up around here this week. As long as it's sunny and NOT wet I love it!

Houston is very expensive for car insurance. not to point any fingers but there are a LOT of uninsured drivers here. When moved from St Louis to here in 1983, it doubled. That the price you pay sometimes to live where you want to. I do like being in Houston and do not miss winter one bit!!

It's in 90's here but we live in AC so not really too bad. a lot of people say they don't like it because it is so humid but I think that is better than being dry and having to deal with cracked lips and other issues like that. Hope everyone is doing well. Careful when in the heat. several day of rain is a pain but it is worse when no rain and everything dries up. We are so blessed and often fail to appreciate it.

Hello all!! Hope you have some exciting plans for the weekend! We are just staying in and trying to stay cool. I had a scare yesterday with the heat. We went to see Jurassic Park Fallen Kingdom and when we came out the heat took my breath away and I had a hard time catching my breath all the way home.

WOW Kitty That is AWFUL!! I thought my insurance was bad, but it's nowhere near your numbers!

I have a "loaded" 2016 mini van (that I'm still paying for...) so have to have more stuff covered than we've always had on our old vehicles - BUT I still am only paying about $2,500 for the year AND that also includes our house insurance as well.

Well, it's offically the first couple days of the summer and our temps have dropped dramatically from the last week or two and it's done nothing but rain, rain RAIN....

Have a great weekend!

wow my car insurance is so high now. it was just me and an 2011 car which was high enough at a little under 1600 per year. added my 18 year old son who did take driver's training and it when up about double. then bought new car so he could drive older one to work and school and where ever. now my insurance is over 5000 per year. I called the aarp insurance recommended and the quote was more than double at 10,709! yikes! have a little time so will check a couple more companies. rates like these are why some people don't have insurance but people that don't have insurance is one reason why rates are so high.

Hello all!! Hope the week was good to everyone. Was ok for me. We went out to eat at our favorite restaurant a few times, which is unusual for us to do...but, hubs was feeling like he needed to get me out of the house. Time is getting close for the "move-in" of his daughter and her son and dog and I guess he knows it is starting to bug me more and more each day. He has also booked us a trip to Galveston for July to see Moody Gardens Dino exhibit and then went ahead and booked our Nov and Dec trips to Galveston. Made me feel better knowing he is trying to take better care of me this time around with her moving in again.

I wish more people would post on the chat but maybe I'll just post more even if nobody else is. I wish things were better between my boys and me. Not sure if it is all me or my doing or if not. I'm not an easy person to get along with. I'll get angry over nothing and criticize on and on. I don't want to be like that but we often grow up to be our parents.

Your cactus blooms are gorgeous, thanks for sharing. Kids are good at pushing all our buttons. My sons are still teens and never left home yet. My older son isn't hard to live with overall he tries his best to be good. My younger son however says he can't wait until he is 18 and able to move out and I can't say I'll be too unhappy either. However I find it hard to believe he'll be able to live on his own. Sounds like you know what you need to do so that you can be healthy while under the strain of your daughter living with you. Stay Sparking and may it all work out for the best.

I've spent the past two weeks off my SP plan, fretting about our daughter moving back in with us. I've made some decisions and bought some things to help me keep my mind busy while they are here and have a calmer mind now. I even managed to get out with my camera and catch our cactus in full bloom, something I have been waiting for and almost missed. I have come to the conclusion there are things I can change and others I have no say in and have accepted this fact. Plus, I have a Dr. appt. two weeks before she moves in and will get my meds upped again to help me maintain my sanity. She lived with us before and it nearly drove me into the hospital. Being bi-polar with PTSD is not easy and it only takes a little change to upset me and this is a HUGE change coming.

Today we were going to take the dogs to get nails cut. We go in my older son's car (previously mine) as new car is trying to stay nice. He said he didn't know if he had enough gas so I gave him money and my card to get discount to go fill-up. I have him run errands so give him gas money sometimes. I find out later he only used half the money I gave him to put in gas. He did not fill-up the tank! I get upset and he doesn't seem to understand why. He'd asked if I wanted change back and as I thought it was only a few dollars told him he could keep it but when I found out it was $20 (while at dog groomers) , I took it back. Am I overreacting?
