I gave up drinking last June, smoking last August and decided that seeing as I had finally found my willpower I would see in the new year and tackle the rest of my health! Half a job done is no good... I needed to get to the finished package :) Motivation via Sparkepeople is fantastic, have got some great Sparkbuddies on here cheering me on, this site has been the best find ever and I genuinly feel that this time round I can do this! My family however have to be THE best motivation. They are joining in with me on the adjusted meals and healthy outlook, my daughter has been so impressed with my new outlook she has joined Sparkteens and both my son and daughter are joining in with me on exercising... tho am not sure how much of that is down to "supporting" mum and how much of it is down to playing with the mum's Kinect lol!

Quotes from the greatest philosopher of all time... Winnie the Pooh :)

“A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.”

“When late morning rolls around and you're feeling a bit out of sorts, don't worry; you're probably just a little eleven o'clockish.”

“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

Hi, I just joined today. I am sitting in a neck brace having had spinal surgery on the 21st. I have degenerative tissue in my back and will probably have to have lumbar surgery. I have gained over 50 pounds in the last 3 years as I have had 13 surgeries. I am more than 100 pounds overweight, and many of these problems stem from that. I need major help!

What motivates me? Pain. I'm a tough nut and it took chronic pain to motivate me. Started with lower back pain after my last child was born 5 years ago. At 39 my metabolism took a nosedive after keeping my weight in check during my pregnancy, I gained 60 pounds in 4 months. I've added under 50 pounds in the last 4 1/2 years. I now wake up in pain and it never completely dissipates as the day progresses. Medication dulls it but that's it. I'm done. This is no way to live.

I just started yesterday and there's no going back.

Elizabeth

What motivates you to keep pushing forward ?

My husband and two boys emoticon motivate me to try harder to be healthy and help them to learn how to be healthy. Also, my parents were gone by their 50's due to heart disease. That fact is always in the back of my head. I still want to be here long after that. emoticon

My motivation for today is to feel energized again. It has been a long time since it felt good to move and walk and just be. I want that feeling back! One day at a time, I know I can do it, one day at a time.

today's motivation: I'd like to power through my 20 minutes on the elliptical. I was going further in my 20 minutes, but the last few workouts....I didn't have the energy/will/desire to work that hard. I'd like to get back to the top!

What motivates you to keep pushing forward ?

That is a good question. I find it hard some days to even get motivated. Alright, most days. My life is filled with negativity that surrounds me and, I won't lie, I succumb to it alot. Depression, anxiety, anger.... name it, I feel it on a daily basis. But I have watched people I love make the change and just by seeing the efforts they are putting into life, I find my motivation there. Even though we live states apart, I feel connected to my family with Spark. My goal is to lose weight so when I ride on the back of my husbands Harley, I look GOOOOOD! ;)

I want to be able to bend over and paint toes, tie shoes, buckle side of shoes without getting out of breath.

Motivation today: plug though this "stall" (LOL...I posted a five pound loss Monday, have been "perfect" and three days later I'm still the same or just above)...(so I'm obsessing, but ...) and keep at it until I lose more.

I'd really like to lose 15 more. Dh said he thought 75 gone would be when it would be noticeable to most people, and that puts me (hopefull) coming back to work after my next vacation...I'd love to come back to compliments (not going to lie!)

BMI is just a number - an important number, of course, but remember, all numbers are in a sequence - and you can make yours go up or DOWN depending on what you decide to do with your life - and you just took the first step!!

My motivation today is that I had three pieces of pizza last night. Although I stayed in range, I had pre planned for just two pieces. I refuse to never have pizza again, and today I want to prove that my decadent choice last night (and they were really good slices!) does not mean I am "off the wagon" today.

Motivated by my goal of being able to go dancing with my husband and dance for 30 minutes straight without sitting down or being out of breath.......

Overall motivation is wanting to get back OUTDOORS to hike, swim, etc. without having to sit down every 15 minutes or not being able to walk after I am very active for a day.....

When I was younger, I could push my large body to its limits--now that I am older, larger means deteriorating knees and ankles, back pain, etc. I want to be able to do what I want (within reason) without such dire consequences.....

I remember thinking, yea I'm overweight but still healthy and active. Well, that was when I should have kicked my own butt!! Now, at 48, I am still overweight (more now than then) and not healthy, and being active is much more difficult. I am the mom of a special needs 10 year old little girl and if anything happens to me she will end up in an institution. THAT MOTIVATES ME.

Getting stared is the hard part. For me I started with the Walk Away the Pounds Videos. They range from 1 mile and up so you can customize your routine. Depending on the length of the video I would get up before my household in the mornings and do one video. Then after awhile I started to add another video in the evening after work. I would have dinner then do one video an hour after dinner. That helped me to get moving. I like the Leslie Sansone videos.

What motivates me? Huh...that's a very good question. I have a lot of the usual things that should motivate me more like being there for my kids, my health, wanting to look better, improve my self-esteem, etc. But for some reason it's just easier for me to push it all aside and think I will deal with it all tomorrow. For probably the last 30 years of my life I have been going to bed making the promise to myself that tomorrow is going to be the beginning and yet every morning I wake up and go about my day forgetting about the promise I made the night before. So unfortunately, right now there isn't much motivating me to make the changes I know I need to make. I am just hoping that one day the light bulb will go on and that long awaiting beginning happens!

I just so tired of being unhealthy and feeling like a failure when it comes to weight loss. and SHAME, I am tired of feeling ashamed as well.

I am tired of lying to myself. I am ready to set boundaries and own my life. I want to treat myself like the treasure I am.

I just read some of the success stories - what great motivation those are! For me it's about being accountable. Accountable for my own happiness and health. And also about setting aside fear, being brave and moving ahead. At least for today that's how I feel, we will see about tomorrow!

What motivates me is watching my sons play and knowing that one day soon, I can get out in the snow with them and really enjoy it. I am waiting for the day when I can run and bike and do all the things that they want me to do with them. I know that one day really soon, I will be there with them. I know that one day really soon, I can go hiking and camping with their scout troops and not feel so worn out. My sons are my motivation.

What motivates me to keep moving forward?

My desire to get past comfortable to healthy. I have lost 50+ pounds three separate times in my life, gotten a few nice comments, got comfortable and then gained it all back plus more.
So this time I decided that I must make the small changes in my life that would facilitate me getting to my goal and insure that I never go back.
After 2 years and 86 pounds lighter, I have come to enjoy exercise and eating better. I make the best choice I can at the time I make it and I don't stress out or feel guilty any more.
Small changes and new hope for the future will see me thru the next 50 pounds and thru the rest of my healthy life.

What motivates me to keep moving forward?

Hmmm... well I just started, but this time IS different. I'm 45 yrs old (young?) and I can't be 260lbs anymore. I have been telling myself that I will lose the weight since my son was 4yrs old. He's 17 now...

My BIGGEST motivation is to not be 260lbs when he graduates from HS this summer. I want him to be proud of his mom, just as I am proud of him. And my 10 yr old daughter needs a mom who is active with her too!

My mantra - No matter what happens, I will continue to move forward - I will thrive!

I am with you, I had the same situation, minus the surgeries. I was on in 2008, lost over 50 pounds...and life got crazy, we moved, our oldest son graduated and is an exchange student in Norway, we have had financial difficulties.....my weight loss/healthy habits went down the tube. I gained all the weight back and am absolutely certain, I will do this now. My motivation is my family. I really want to be here for them, and healthy. So, I am back and ready to do it right and keep it right!!

today's motivation: Yesterday I got on the gym scale and looked down. For a moment I forgot it was always five pounds lower than my home scale...the low number, in a new "decade", was sooo cool to see.

I want to see it, to "earn" it, for real now.

My current motivation is that I am going to go visit my siblings etc. in June of 2011 and I would like to be looking as good as I possibly can. They have seen me put weight on over the years...I am sure they would like to see me take off some of this weight.

Motivation for today? Next month, my husband and I are going away for a few days. I want to see how much I can lose before then.

Hello,
I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! I am a returning member, started on here in '07, I believe and just drifted away, lost sight of myself, for awhile. I am back, after 3 years of medical issues, 1 surgery per year in 3 years is more than enough! Let's get this party started!

What motivates me today..... today I am motivated to plan my meals better because they will help me reach the goal that I want to be in. Today I am motivated because I do not want to spend my "golden years" being taken care of by family, I want to travel with my best friend/husband, I want to be happy when I look in the mirror...... I haven't felt that way in many years..... so today; I am going to BE ME!!!! only better. emoticon

I'm new here, but your fear motivation really spoke to me. I don't have kids, but your reasons behind the fear are true enough. Thank you for reminding me about some of my fears.

What motivates me?

Fear.

I know that's not a good motivator, but right now it's what's behind me.
I'm afraid of never being able to ride a ride at Disney with my kids.
I'm afraid of becoming diabetic.
I'm afraid of falling and not being able to get back up.
I'm afraid of my children following in my footsteps.
I'm afraid of dying and being fat.

I know that once I get into this new lifestyle my motivation will change. But for now, it's

My motivation has 3 parts to it:
1) I am motivated by my improved health
2) I am motivated by my monetary savings as my fees that I invest in Weight Watchers and the gym are starting to pay off. What I pay in those fees I am saving in medication co-pays, and I know that my insurance has a rider on it that will refund part of my membership costs to the gym (for doing something healthy for myself).
3) I am motivated by the fact that compliments on how I look NEVER GET OLD!! emoticon

If you don't take care of #1, you will look, feel, and be treated like #2!

Better, Better every day...Better, Better in EVERY WAY!

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
