Saw the sun today for the first time in what seemed like ages....it even got a little warm here...ok 42 isn't all that warm but after yesterdays 32 and windy it was great. Spent the morning getting dirty in my iris beds....LOL

hello everyone, how active is this group? i'm looking for a good support network, so i can give, and take! I know i need it, i was really regular when we had spark classes, used to go 4 times a week, when they stopped.. well i kinda gave up, so i know from experience i need a good team to be in, anyone else the same way?

Every journey starts with a step.. i add a hop and a jump for good measure!

Hi All... Trust all is well.. Out of commission also.. Just trying to get back in, yet the afternoon workout at the gym is requiring me to look into a lift with a pre-workout supplement... A lot a times I feel like leaving .... Plz help... Any advice is welcomed!

Been out of commission about a week being sick. Of course used that as an excuse to eat like crap, not exercise and in general be a slob. Feeling much better now. Got my new bike yesterday and put it together. It's a cute white/pink "girly" bike, and bought a basket for the front. Rode about 5 minutes with my little one whose just learning to ride without training wheels before she got frustrated and quit...lol

Hope everyone's having a good Monday so far. I got in my workout early this morning cause hubby needed to be at work by 9am, so had to get it done before taking the kids to school.

Frustrated with the scale, stayed the same now for the 3rd week in a row. I've lost inches, so hopefully that means I'm gaining muscle.

Today is my step-dads birthday (he's 85....was much older than my mom...lol) had a nice chat with him today as he's still in Seattle.

Bought a new pair of jeans today in what I thought was a size smaller (for incentive) only to find out when I got home that they fit perfectly...woot! (Costco, not really a fitting room to try on) And after these last day or so that felt really good and was a balm for my soul. (if u want more details you'll have to read my blog...lol)

Laura, love to go walking, but it might be a bit challenging. I'm in NE and you're in MI...quite a ways to go lol. but hey we'll keep each other on track virtually.

Found out that our taxes are almost ready to be filed, and we'll be getting back a good chunk of funds this year. Yippee!!! We can catch up on bills....woo hoo. Might have a little extra to have fun with too, but those pesky priorities ya know.

Had a great day so far...got up early to exercise, shower and get ready before my Pampered Chef lady come over to set up for the show. Show turnout was good, and can't wait to see what all I can get with my credits. The food she made was fabulous and fairly healthy.

Might try for a nap in a bit...I'm exhausted...lol

Today is my first day on this site. I've been seeing my Dr. since November for weight loss. I joined Beachbody a month and a week ago. I've also been using the myfitnesspal app but I haven't been able to eat all my calories lately. So I joined this site to help me reach my goals. I work out to ChaLean Extreme, Hip Hop Abs, Zumba and for the first time today I did Insanity!

Great job Judy on giving up all but water. I've mostly done that as well....but can't give up my coffee in the mornings...lol I don't drink pop very often, it doesn't taste good anymore, and takes me forever to drink one cause of the fizz...lol

I way overate yesterday, unintentionally. Hubby bought Sonic for dinner and I ate it before looking up the calorie count, and for my cheeseburger, sweet potato tots, and strawberry limeaide it was around 1240 calories....YIKES. Needless to say I'm up around 2lbs this morning....but working hard to get it back off plus more by monday's official weigh in. I know I can do it...or at least get close so I'm not giving up.

Wow Judy. You are doing great! Do you realize how far you are coming?? Don't knock yourself. That won't get you anywhere but down. Or up, rather. You are doing great to be exercising and drinking water and preparing all your food rather than going with processed foods. Those are amazing building blocks for success! Congratulations on the weight loss. I haven't weighed myself yet. Weigh in is on Friday.

The hardest part for me in this journey is that even though I can feel the differences in my body. I am stronger, I fit in my clothes better from 287(MY highest weight ever) to my current weight 244. But it took all 43 pounds before anyone noticed. The negative voice in my head keeps screaming, look what you have done to your body? All the exercise in the world won't fix these stretch marks, or sagging extra skin folds.

But then I remember that I used to tell myself I couldn't work out because of my ankle, (NO Cartilage ZERO) I've been working out for almost 36 days straight of DVD workouts and before that I was walking on my breaks at work. Don't defeat yourself. You will have bad days, you will eat junk food again, but don't give up on your goals. THEY ARE YOUR GOALS! I am eating almost all whole foods now. Very little processed foods, NO FAST Food. Gave up pop years ago, with exceptions for the occasional Vernor's when I'm sick. Or a Cherry Coke from Starlite when I'm feeling weak. But for the most part, I feel better with just my water. I don't add any extra calories that are empty. I love trying new heart healthy and Paleo healthy recipes.

I have done those walk away the pounds workouts and they are great. low impact, but keeps you moving. We're all on the right track being here and posting. It's very encouraging and liberating to get over that fear of people judging us because of our weight. We're here to help.

KSHARDWICK - Have you looked at the 'Walk Away the Pounds' DVD's. They are about the gentlest fitness video's out there. You do what you can, and if to can't go at the pace the presenters are you lower the intensity to a gentle walk on the spot.

Hello, Lady Dragon, my name is Lucy and this is my first day on Sparkpeople. I am also waiting to have the sleeve gastrectomy, and my doctor told me I have to lose weight. I just started to see the bariatric doctor in January of this year, and I weighed in at 383, it is now Feb 22 and I weigh 370.It is extremely hard for me to lose weight for I suffer from depression and hypothyroid like many of us do. I also have to take vicodin every 4 hours from the pain in my lower back,ankles, kness and shoulder spur, I hate having all this pain. But, when I read your site and you mentioned you were in a wheelchair, I felt so embarrassed for whining and complaining. God bless you, to be able to walk and lose weight very soon.( By the way, not to be negative) but don't you just love it the way the doctor just nonchalantly tells you to lose weight before the surgery, as if we haven't been trying to do this all of our lives already.

Happy Monday. I'm am looking forward to another great weak. I am really enjoying the spark program. My only issue is that due to 3 spine surgeries in the last year I am unable to exercise beyond just walking right now. It is frustrating as I would like to be able to do cardio and the fitness exercises. I do start water therapy today so I am wondering if that would count toward my fitness time??

I'm having some trouble getting in enough cardio during all the snow and ice we are having here. Does anyone have any ideas for cardio indoors? Cheap, too! I can't afford a gym membership right now and am also pressed for time. Someone once suggested the Leslie Sansone DVD's. Anyone have any reports one way or the other about those?

Well hello all. It has been months since I last checked in, My life stinks. Let's see. I am now back up to 263 lbs, my heaviest yet. about 4 months ago my doc put me on pozac. It actually suppressed my appetite which was great!! But the other side effects not worth taking the pill. My hubby and I are both depressed, so of course we EAT!!! Yesterday we were in Costco and the people in a much faster pace than we are used to in Montana, (Did I mention that we are living in a travel trailer in PA now???) and my hubby got pissed and bought a tub of nestle cookie dough!! Just what we need right. NOT. I hurt my ankle in Nov. and it just isn't getting better. Doc said to buy a stiff hiking boot and wear it when I am walking. Not helping. i can only walk for 5-10 mins then it starts to swell and it hurts like the dickens. I have no friends and no car!! I am really upset. I wanted to try this again. Hope everybody has a good night.

Just thought I'd chime with a couple of goals for myself. I'd like to lose 100 lbs over the next year. I've got a 150 total to lose. In one years time, I'd like to try and run a marathon. In two years time, I wanna do an iron man triathlon.

In the near term, in six months, I'd like to be able to get to the top of one of those climbing walls they have at the mall.

Feeling really good. Have lost not alot of weight, but consistently each week. Got some new motivation though. Hubby got a cardiovascular scare. Dr. says all is well now, but it won't be if he doesn't lose some weight. Incentive for the whole family!!!

I'm on the Atking and I love it! Also I do eat veggies 3 cups a day if I want!
And if you pick the right kind of meat (lean) the fat isn't high..Although Atkins does use up your fat intake for energy! I love this diet I have never felt better I have way more energy and I'm never hungry! I'm sorry it didn't work for you but it sounds like what your doing is working and as long as we see results thats what matters!!

I tried every diet out there myself including Atkins and what I found for myself was that it was to hard to stick to and it was completely unbalanced and very unhealthy for me.

No veggies only meat, that's high in cholesterol and made me very unhealthy as well. My body was starving for the nutrients and so I kept looking until I found a balanced diet that was healthy and had something of everything in it, I found it.

Then I found Sparkpeople and the combo has me going strong. I would recommend a healthy diet full of every food group but in moderation. I just keep to my calorie intake for the day and workout and the weight just melts away.

Fad diets never work. But I guess each person needs to find what they believe will work for them. Before you start any new "diet" I'd check with your dr to make sure he knows what you're doing and can guide you from there.

I'm definitely thinking of doing Atkins, I did it years ago and lost a good amount of weight. Then I stopped, it was around the time they were saying low carb was dangerous. Now that I know more about it and it isn't dangerous, I am thinking I will try it.

It's a little espensive, but the grocery store has opened a new fruit bar. It is like the salad bar except it is only fresh fruit that has been cut up already and you pay by the pound. More expensive than buying the whole fruit but i tend to end up throwing away grapes that don't get eaten and that last orange or apple and brown banana so it might be cheaper in the long run. great dessert.

I just look for sales on fruit and veggies and meat etc and when they're on sale I buy them and freeze the ones I can freeze for later use. I'm actually spending less money shopping for our groceries than we did when we ate out and didn't look for sales and coupons.

Just went to the grocery store nextdoor to my office to get something for lunch that isn't fast food and might be healthy. Wow, that is just as hard as fast food-not coming out of there with something bad. One day half over and no slip. Managed to come out of the grocery store with only healthy food. emoticon

Good Morning Everyone,
I'm new to this group ( not sparks ) I'm looking for as much support as possible...

I have been on SOOO many diets from weight watchers to the watermelon diet..And only lost a few pounds and I was hungry all the time! which got very depressing

After my last Dr app she told me to cut my carbs!

So on July 9th I started low carbing and I've lost 8 pounds and 3 inches in my waist.
I have to say I'm not minding the low carb mostly because I'm not hungry!

I'm also trying to stay away from scale and just go by how I feel!

I was reading some of the posts and you all sound like a real nice group of people!

Well I just wanted to say Hi to everyone I'm on here all the time if anyone is wanting a diet buddy emoticon Have a great week!

OMG I am so happy to see all you people again. It has been over a year and a half since I have been on this site and during that time I've had a baby. And the good news, I lost 15 pounds while I was pregnant. The bad news, I was breast feeding and afraid of too little calories, so I gained it back. But I am still below where I started when here last so that is good. Now, after reading all your stuff, I' ready to go again. Still nursing, but have more information now and know how I can take care of me, but still make milk. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm struggling a little bit today!!! Kind of just lost the mind set....I had a little negativity the last couple of days, from a person very close to me, I think it rubbed off!!! Gained 4 pounds with in the last 4 days or so:( Slowly I think I'm getting the right the mind set back, but it's not easy!!!

I do daycare so I hear you! Have water and fresh cut veggies on the counter-eat your meal AFTER you feed the kids incase you snack while preparing and that IS your meal. Just get your head around it that you want to do this and save those 'treats' for something that really counts. As for the evenings-nothing curbs your appetite like excercising and being active-if you are busy you won;t be sitting around the tv thinking about food.

I needed some suggestions. I am a stay at home mom. I have four kids plus I babysit my niece two days a week...with all these kids I feel like I am always in the kitchen. I am constantly around food. How do you keep yourself from snacking here and there or cleaning up what the kids don't eat?

Also, what tips does anyone have on controlling the after dinner and night snacking. Around 8 PM I find myself always wanted to snack!! emoticon Thanks!!

I have a question. On my sparkspage my 'ticker' shows how many pounds I have lost but on the messages I post it says kilograms lost and the numbers are actually pounds-ie even though it switched it to kg it doesn't switch the number to kg's 10 lbs is not 10kg-not sure how to get that corrected as it is correct in lbs on my sparkspage

Welcome!! I understand what you mean about getting your head where it needs to be. We can start weightloss plans with the best of intentions but if our head is not in it, its not going to happen. I wish I could say its easy..its not..I swear I think about weightloss 24/7. I think about how much water I have had for the day and whats gone in my mouth. Last night I craved french fries and a milkshake so bad..even told my daughter we could split it. Well after seeing the amount of calories it would be split..we opted not to do it. and you know what..I didn't even miss it. Once again..so glad your here and have made the commitment to be a healthier you!

Lisa, I too have issues with my feet swelling, from about the ankle down. I am over 300#'s. My doctor put me on a water pill every other day. Also she told me drink lots of water and it will help. Now they don't swell hardly at all. It's nice!!! She also said if ur going to be sitting for long periods of time to try and elevate them. So if u haven't talked to ur doctor about it do!!! Hope this has helped!!!

Sorry to heaar about the swelling..if you have access to a pool that would really help and a great place for exercise without hurting your joints. Other things you can try are:
Tips to Reduce Swelling
•Cut back on salt
◦Salt contributes to fluid retention.
•Drink plenty of water.
•Put your feet up
◦Lying on your back, rest your feet at least 12 inches above the level of your heart for 10 to 15 minutes, three or four times a day.

Hi everyone, I don't post much, but I was wondering has anyone have swollen feet and how do they get them down?
I swear I feel I can poke my feet with a needle and all this fluid will come pouring out. I am at the highest in weight and have made up my mind to stick to eating healthy again. I am almost at the 300lb mark and its scaring me. Its hard to go walking, because of the feet being swollen and I have bad knees too and a bad lower back, which also makes it hard to stand for long periods of time.
I am 47 years old and feel like I am falling apart literally. now that I have babbled and got it off my chest. I know I just have suffer through and get back into it no matter how much it hurts.

So on this journey of mine I have been hitting the treadmill 6 days a week..last night I went to do my workout and only did half..I don't know if it was the heat, my knee giving me trouble or my heart just was not in it. But when I went to bed I just kept thinking about it, not finishing it and was so disappointed in myself. I spent time doing leg lifts, crunches and other workouts to help me unwind, well my 3:30 am I was still awake..so I got up, got dressed and went and did my workout. I cannot tell you how easy it was for me to go to sleep when I was finished. I felt good about myself..and trust me I never thought in a million years I would ever..EVER give up sleep for exercise and feel good about it! We are all on this journey, we may travel different paths but we are all have the same destination..a place to feel good about ourselves and to be healthy! Good luck on all of your journeys!!

2Baswan-You are so close to being under 200!!! That is so exciting. Do not give up!!!!! I would love to be that close!!!! You've obviously worked hard to get here. Swimming is my favorite exercise. I don't care how I look in a suit because I feel so good while I'm doing it and afterwards! My knees love me for it and my arms have changed dramatically (in a good way!) Maybe the pool is what you need to get you over this humP. Could you join now and think of it as a reward for doing so much already?!!! Congrats on your anniversary..and kodos for you for going out for the walk when you have felt like crap. Its so easy for us to say..well maybe tomorrow. I can't wait to be where you are on weight..the thought of seeing a 1 in the from of those three didgets excites me so much..even if its 199! LOL..One day at a time, one step at a time..but I know I will get there. Keep up the hard work, its paying off!!

Today was my 28th wedding anniversary. I felt like crap all day, but after going for our nightly walk at the park with the dogs, my mood lifted a bit. Feeling really tired and can hardly wait for bed time to arrive.

Cathie, Great job!!!! Always makes me feel better to get out and walk. My saturday was boring. We were really hot. So I didn't do anything. Going to be hot today too, so we will see what I do today...lol

I went for a 45 minute walk in the park with hubby and 4 doggies. It was a good workout and my depression lifted a bit which was a relief. Thank you all for your support and encouraging words. Hope your Saturday was a splendid one.

It is really fun. Tho' it surprised me as to how intense it is. U think oh it's just walking, but WOW it is walking very fast, with some light jogging. I hope ur having a wonderful saturday, Mo.

Hello team,
Well I got the walk away the pounds dvd. I got one called the muscle mile. It has 1-5 mile walks on it. I did the one mile walk. I 'll tell u what it kicked my butt. I felt really good afterwards because I didn't quit at all thru the mile.

Mo- I figure I will work the water exercise in later, in my program.

Cathie- Great job on the bike!!! Don't stress the weigh-in u'll be fine!!!
