I wouldn't bring any of the others when I had to put down one of my cats or rescues. It's stressful for me and often the patient. I'm sorry to hear of your recent loss and wish you the best. I just lost one of mine and it's always tough.

Judith: yes, my younger one started being much more aggressive when my older one started getting sicker :(
I agree, it is just the way of the animal kingdom.

I agree. There have been times when I knew one of my cats was near its end just by how the others treated it. We think of it as cruel but that is just the way of the animal kingdom.

I know its a little late but I put my oldest baby to sleep on Sept 28 this year. Thankfully (?) my two girls were not super close so my younger one has not shown any signs of grief. She is enjoying the house and her meowma to her self though for certain lol

edited note: oops..forgot to mention, I would imagine it would certainly depend on close the felines are to each other. Mine lived together since the younger was a kitten (12yrs) but the younger one knew the older one was sick so maybe it wasnt a shock she was gone?

It can be hard enough putting one to sleep without worrying about the youngsters also. Give the other cats some extra love when you get home. But also, don't take them along.

I have been fortunate enough to have been owned by 22 kitties in my 38 years. When I was young, my mom & I had 2 put down on the same day. One was in active heart failure. The other had advanced FE Leuk. I would never do that again, even though both were gravely ill. I would also not take a healthy kitty along when I had to have a sick kitty put to sleep.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry you have to put your kitty to sleep, but as you know, it's because you love her so much and don't want her to suffer. I've been there 4 times now. It's never easy. With the last 2 I stayed with them and am glad I did. I brought them home and we buried them. I agree about leaving your other kitties at home.

I would leave the other kitties at home. Cats seem to know when something has gone wrong and taking them might add to the stress. Personally, I think it would be terrible for kitties to associate the vets office with death instead of healing.

I have only had to do that once and I left the others at home. Well, taking 16 to the vet would have been a bit much.
I had the vet put Chopin back into the carrier, then my son, bless his heart, buried Chopin for me alongside his brothers.

I've only had to do this once, and it was.... rough. I'm sorry you are losing a kitty. :(

Do not take the other cats with you. When I asked my vet if I could be there when he put the one cat to sleep, he said that cats often are difficult to put to sleep, and it's harder on the owners when that happens--it's better to drop the cat off, and say goodbye (if you haven't already--I couldn't bear the thought of bringing the kitty out of the carrier again...)

Just give the other kitties lots more snuggles when you get home. They will need it--and so will you.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. PETS NEED TO SEE THE OTHER PASS AWAY SO THEY CAN GRIEVE TOO.OR THEY WILL THINK THEY ARE COMING HOME EVERY DAY.

What makes us bond as friends is a mystery, but friendships form some of our most important relationships.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I've been there a few times over the years. I can't say that I've ever even thought to take the others when the time came. I think it would probably be best for the animal being PTS if the room were as calm and quiet as possible. I'll be praying for you.

I just had one of my kitties put to sleep a couple of months ago. I didn't take the other ones with me but I brought the one I had put to sleep home with me to bury in our pet cemetary. He was wrapped in my favorite Steelers blanket in a box and I let both of them see him before we buried him. One of them wanted to climb in the box with him but the other one knew something was major wrong and just wanted me to hold her in my arms.

I was curious for those of you that have/had multiple cats and you need to have one put to sleep, have you or would you take the others with you?

We have one kitty who has cancer and we will take her to the vet this weekend to have them put her to sleep and we are debating on if we should take either or both of the other kitties with us or just leave them at home.

I was hoping to receive your opinions on if you would and your stories on if you had or hadnt take the others with you before.

Thanks ahead of time!
