2 more marathons...

Flying Monkey, 11/22, finished in 4:09 - 3500 feet of climbing. Very hilly.

Ran the Sacramento Run to Feed the Hungry 10K. Went out about 45 seconds too fast the first two miles and suffered the rest of the way. I was just happy to keep running the last couple of miles.

5k turkey trot this morning!

Not a PR overall, but I had run several races on this same course, and got my best time on it this morning. So I got a course PR, I guess!

Ran my 3rd 5K run last night. I had the exact same time as 2 weeks ago with my last run. Finished in 26:55. I'd like to aim to get under 26:30...does anyone have any tips on getting better/faster times...training ideas, etc.

Way to go on doing a 10K so soon after and doing so well!

I haven't been on here in a long time but I'm back and trying to get into "running" again. I did a 5K a couple of weeks ago and finished in 52:29, not my fastest time but not bad for little to no training. It was also a really challenging race as it went over a steep bridge which you had to turn around and do again.

Great job! 46:04 is still blazing fast 6 weeks postpartum. You have LOTS of talent. I'm just now down to a 45 minute 10K -- 6 weeks postpartum I was more like 11 minutes per mile.

Chickamauga marathon--- BQ, and 3rd place 24 and under hardware :)

was hard, have had mono.... and made some rookie mistakes and had two bathroom breaks and had to tie my shoes... but my training was for much better than I needed so I still got my Boston Qualifying time! Woohoo! Tough race. I ran hard.

3:40:17 race time
(3:36:43 without the stops; Garmin autopaused)

Could have done better if I hadn't been sick, I felt it from the minute I started running, but I'm proud of how deep I dug to pull out the desperately wanted BQ. I've never hurt so badly.

I ran my 1st but not last 1/2 marithon...I said from the beggining of training..I would be happy just to finish..and that's just what I did..got the finisher's medal to prove it too..next time I will change some things...and of course next time will always be a totally different race..talking with some expereinced 1/2 marithoners..that stated this time this marithon was the hardest of their season with the 15mph winds..gusting all the way home in the face...but last time they ran it ---was their easiest 1/2...so everytime changes...I just want there to be another for me...I'm hooked...after I get rid of all my running stiffness anyway..prob. by tues..I'll start training for my next...so keep on keeping on..and love the run..Rico emoticon emoticon emoticon ps: forgot to say it was the 11th annual Midsouth Marathon..in Whynn , Arkansas...I will be back....

Ran my first race post-marathon today. I've only run 3 miles each of the last 2 weeks, so I wasn't expecting much. It was also my first ever trail race, and I was a little worried about turning an ankle (I'm a clutz).

Well, I did turn an ankle (ouch) but managed to place 3rd in my age group! New race, so small, slow field, but still - first time I ever placed in a running race!

Ran a Halloween Race in Cincinnati on Friday evening called the Run Like Hell 5k. Sponsored by Cincinnati Bell and WEBN, proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Weather was unusually warm for the run. Run starts near Xavier University in Cincinnati. Course goes through a cemetery which is quite hilly, and relatively dark as the only lighting is luminaria and flashlights. Great postrace party that features live music and a costume contest. People also ran in costume. Only downer is that a deer decided to join the race without paying.

I ran a 5K Tues night called the Ghosts and Goblins race. It's always a fun race except that it was drizzling the whole time. We run in downtown Dayton, Ohio and they have out luminaries and where we go under the freeway, they have a cemetary set up. I ran it in 41:08. Not my best, but not my worst either. I came in 13th in my age division out of 31.

Ran a slightly hilly 5k race on Saturday in a viciously cold nor'easterly wind. As I rounded the corner in one section, it hit me so hard I was almost stopped in my tracks! And cold.... wow!

Nevertheless, I managed a time of 26:06, which is a PB for me!

Did my first HM yesterday. It was Run Like Hell in Portland, OR. I've got the full report up on my page, including a few pics.

Woke up at 5:30am to get some food in me, then showered & headed to the race site. Met a couple other Sparkers there - GAYEMC was doing the 10K & KEAKMAN was there for support. We started at 7:30am & ran through the downtown area, along the waterfront, into one of the neighborhoods (called the Pearl District), back along the waterfront, & then up a long stretch of road. From there we continued through a great park, then back into downtown.

It was a fun experience & I know there will be many more HMs in my future!

MARINE CORP MARATHON 10K
OCTOBER 25, 2009 (Sunday)
ROAD RACE: 6.2 MILES
Washington, D.C.

This was my second 10K and my second time doing this race. This year they changed the course to make it more challenging.

I got up at 5:15 am, got dressed and ate my usual running food of whole wheat English muffin with peanut butter and some PowerAde. I wanted to get to the train station by 6 but my stomach was so upset, I didn’t get there until about 6:40 am. It was chilly as usual so I grabbed a fleece sweater on the way out. I was feeling anxious that I won’t get there in time. I got to the start at 7:40. Because the course changed, the start was maybe a block, if that, from the Metro stop. I checked my bag and got in line for the 8:05 start time. I lined up with the 70+ minute runners. Last year, it took me 1:34:46, so all I wanted to do was beat myself.

Last year’s course was relatively flat for the first 5 miles, and then uphill to the 6 mile marker but the last ¼ mile was like going up the side of a building so we could run towards the Marine Corps War Memorial. This year, the course was rolling and more challenging to us beginners than last year. They eliminated the hill from mile 5 to 6 but of course kept the last ¼ mile mountain climbing hill to the Marine Corps War Memorial.

I took a mini walk break at mile 1.5 so I could strip off some layers. I took very few walk breaks after that except for the porta-potty break at mile 5. THE FINISH LINE!!

After the race, they handed out water and PowerAde with Cheerios mini-boxes plus goodie bags of food. I stretched, rehydrated and ate, then walked the quarter mile to pick up my bag at coat check, stopped for a FREE massage (NO WAITING!!) but it was on the way to the train station anyway. I grabbed a cup of coffee on the way before hopping on the train back home, then to work. AWESOME RACE and I beat my time even with the bathroom break!!!

Time - 1:32:15 (BEAT MY TIME BY 2 ½ mins)
Overall place: 4783 out of 5110
Female place: 2856 out of 3111
Age Group place: 420 out of 444

This is the year of a healthier me.

Congrats on making your goal, despite the crazy weather conditions! I ran the Columbus Marathon this past weekend in 3:40:12 and qualified for Boston. It was a nice 35 degrees at the start, perfect race weather.

I ran my first marathon yesterday! Finished in 4:38 and change, which is under the 5 hour deadline I had, but slower than I secretly hoped for. However, there was a nor'easter, and was some of the worst conditions ever for a marathon. If you're interested, there's a blog entry on my spark page. I'm a marathoner!

Ran the Kansas City Marathon today in 4:25:55. I have not run a marathon since 2000 in Chicago which is a fast flat course and I beat that time today running a PR. Who says we can't get faster as we get older. Go Master's Runnners! Thinking about heading the Memphis in December to see if I can shave some minutes off.
