It seems quite unbelievable to me but this morning a run a distance of 2,5 miles, well, not quite effortless but it was not impossible either.

If I go 5 weeks back... running was in my mind altogether out of the question!

I am proud and happy and I keep loosing weight!

Uhura - it depends whats going on in your life right now, ask yourself if youre running 3 days per week ok
are you feeling good, overwhelmed, challenged, injured?
If your comfortable continue to increase no more than 10% at a time

I tried to send you the complete 10K training program
Thats part of our Running Room here in Canada,
but the spark e-mail doesnt accept the PDF file

Im sure there are some programs off the running websites

I am completing a 5K program in two weeks.
What to do next? Keep up with 5k runs for some weeks or go to a 10K program right away? Does anyone have a 10K program to send me? I have found the 5k program excellent and I have followed it to the last detail, so I want a 10K program now to go on.
Thank you all,
Uhura

You don't really need a program to get you to 15K. As I have posted to you before, there are 2 great 15K races in Toronto in the summer, the Acura 10 miler and the Midsummer Night's Run.

And sign up for either Scotiabank Waterfront or Goodlife Toronto half in the fall as your HM goal race.

Hi!

I'd say go for the 1/2 if you are up for it. However, it took me a LONG time to get to these further distances, so kudos for being able to do a 10k so soon after starting running!

Whether you can train for 1/2 will also depend on your life right now... maybe right now it's good to camp out at the 10k distance, but if this is a good time for you to bump it up a notch, then hey, do it now while the time is right! :)

Remember, you don't have to train for something if you don't want to... it's perfectly acceptable to run just for the fun of it! :)

I have to decide by June 2 if Im going to take the 1/2 Marathon class it runs for 16 weeks and I could be ready for my first 1/2 M race in Sept

I was thinking of enjoying the summer & riding my new bike without the stress of adding more distance
but I could get bored staying at the 10K and the challenge could be good, but 10K already feels like a very long run for me, and the schedule for the 1/2 training is alot to take on.

I'd choose between either increasing your speed or distance but I would not suggest doing both. It sounds like your body is doing a great job keeping up with the miles. A 1/2 is definately within your reach.

John,

You have the heart of a runner...I say if you are mentally ready to take on the 1/2, go for it!!! You have done so well to this point, I think you are ready...all's you need is heart, desire, and a good pair of running shoes...LOL! Hopefully, the Garmin issue is resolved unless you are still testing... emoticon

HAPPY RUNNING, my friend!

I'm with the others, go for the HM as long as it is something you want to do. If you like the smaller distances, then go back to a training plan but bump it up to the next level, whether that be intermeidate, advanced, etc.

You are slowly building up on your endurance and long run. Why not sign up for longer events? That is my approach. I am trying not to let my mind wander past my first marathon. I want to plan my next year out so I have an idea of training schedule...but I'm backing off.

I think it depends what YOU want to do. I'm still a relatively newbie runner and so it feels like "graduating" from 5K to 10K to Half is the natural path. My first half is in 2 weeks, so then I wonder if a marathon is next. Maybe I'm just trying to sample everything before deciding what distance I like and then focusing on that.

ANother option might be to not worry about a running plan. Pick up a few books from established coaches - Pfitzinger, Daniels, Galloway (check out his early stuff as well as his later stuff) Lydiard - the list goes on. Learn some running principles, decide what your goals are and learn to train yourself.

Go for the half!

I tend to defeat myself mentally so I ran two 5k's, then a bunch of 10k's, then bumped it up to the HM. After a couple of those, I will do a full. I like to get lots of practice so I don't panic on race day. That's just me though.

Pain is nothing compared to the feeling of quitting.

I say pick a half marathon a 4-6 months from now and start training for that. The nice thing about the half training plans is that they ease you into those long distances. You will be able to do it - no problem!

I don't think you'd have any problem working towards a half marathon. That's what I'm doing after running at 10K.

But, if you don't feel like running that far, you could instead work on increasing your speed. So you could do the 10K program again, just concentrate on the speed.

It's entirely up to you.

I say go for the half marathon. I made the jump from 5K to half marathon programs. I am finding it is really pushing me, but I am able to do it. Even if it ends up taking me a couple of extra weeks to do it, not a problem. My half marathon is scheduled for September.

just my two cents ...

I started running 6months ago.
I've completed 3 10 week running programs
I completed learn to run, 5K, and in 2 week
my 10k program ends

The next program offered is 1/2 marathon that's too big of a jump? I wish they had a 15K program but they don't.

Question: What do I do? should I repeat the 10K or take the 1/2 marathon?

thanks in advance for your advice and opinions and personal experiences
