SUSIELYNN50 great that you are discovering what it is to be MINDFUL. Meditation helps with being in the present moment, not fighting the thoughts just letting them go by and focusing in the present moment, eating, listening to music, practicing Yoga and Meditation, walking, jogging. It's hard because we are used to multitask or let the environment influence us. Tell us more about your discoveries about the food you eat, is it something you like? is it warm enough for you? is it sweet, sour, salty, plain? looking forward to hear your experience

Thanks a lot KELLIEBEAN, I'll post them also in the INFO Forum for Yoga Links so they'll be useful for all team members (present and future). Yoga and Meditation are really useful to "wind down" . Have you tried only pranayama? breathing techniques that take a couple of minutes and help too, let me tell you about one I practice lying in bed, I breath normally, one hand is below the navel, the other above the navel, I do this 2-3 times, then I move my hand from below the navel to the heart level and keep the other hand where it is above the navel, again 2-3 times to make sure the air is going to the bottom of my lungs(the tummy goes up/inhaling and down/exhaling), then my hand from above the navel goes to my throat level and keep the other hand on the heart level, repeat breathing, now my hand from the heart goes to my forehead and the other stay at the throat level, continue breathing, I put my both hands on top of my closed eyes and keep breathing for as long as I feel like, to finish I lower my hands to the side of my body and stay in savasana for a while... by keeping the focus in the breathing and hands, other thoughts seem to fly by and relaxation begins to happen. Hope it helps, it is a long explanation but when it is done it won't take more than a couple of minutes.

Off for a few days and I did continue my practices. Especially working on the Slowing down part. this week it's my meals I'll take time to savor, smell, chew, taste.

Everyone has really been busy! Always such good info here. I'm going to try at least 1 of Kelliebean's links.

Thanks for your guidance, PunchiLouie!

Have a good day. Namaste emoticon

Thanks PUNCHILOUIE! I usually take out the https when I post links and forget now and again. Below are the corrected links.

I see now I am to the point of really needing a daily practice. This is the first I'm feeling this so consistency has paid off. I started to meditate last night to wind down from the busy evening, was interrupted and didn't get back to it.

I had a little bit harder time falling asleep last night. I'll be taking a quick meditation break today at work.

Namaste everyone!

Wednesday, Yoga practice at the studio. The regular teacher of that class is back from Europe. So nice to practice with her again. (2 of 10)

Friday, Yoga, level 1 Vinyasa at the studio. She really worked our balance and legs.(3 of 10)

This morning, 15 minutes of twists, hamstring and glute stretches felt good after the Friday practice. (4 of 10)

It's been too hot to walk much so my miles are a bit behind schedule. I've been swimming instead. Grateful for our pool.

Meditation every morning, as always, has kept me very centered and grateful!

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know. AS BILL SEES IT

4 simple meditations
If you talk to 10 people who meditate, you’ll likely hear 10 different approaches to the practice. The truth is there is no right or wrong way to meditate; whatever works for you is the right way. But there are some common ways to get started. Here are five techniques for you to try, combine or adjust to your liking. Explore them all until you find the technique that speaks to you.

Breath meditation
Focusing on your breathing is the oldest and most basic meditation technique.

Start off by sitting comfortably (on a cushion, mat or chair).
Then, close your eyes, press your tongue to your palate, close your mouth and breathe through your nose.
Inhale deeply into your abdomen.
Exhale through a slightly open mouth until your lungs are empty. Focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale. Count breaths if that feels right.

The goal is not to think about your breath but to quiet your mind and simply become aware of it.

Walking meditation
Walking meditation invites you to bring your attention to the act of walking — the movement — the continual connection between you and the earth. Focus on your feet as they touch the ground; try not to let your mind or your eyes wander. Keep your attention on the feeling of each foot connecting with the ground, and keep your gaze in front of you.

Heart chakra meditation
Because the heart is thought to be the center of life and love, it can be a wonderfully healing focus for your meditation.

To get in touch with your heart chakra, gently rub your palms together to warm and energize them.
Then, move your right palm to your chest over your heart and put your left hand on top of it. Imagine your heart, the center of your body, glowing with radiant energy.
Then imagine that energy radiating out to the rest of your body and mind.
When you're ready, send that energy out through your palms to loved ones or to the world around you.

Mantra meditation

A mantra is a sound, a word or a phrase that you repeat slowly in a soft, easy rhythm while you meditate. Many find repeating a mantra further calms and quiets a busy mind. Your mantra can have personal meaning — something that reflects your spiritual beliefs, or it can simply be a series of words or sounds that are comforting to you

Moving on with the July challenge of yoga at least 3x a week, practicing gratitude and I am going to work toward chasing a little slow. Maybe pausing my walk to smell flowers, slowing my eating to truly appreciate, or whatever else I feel the need to do some times.

Everyone here has such a nice variety of their fitness. Very fun to see!

"Yoga is a practice of healing…where the healing gradually unfolds on all levels of our being. We all come to yoga with our issues, some with physical and others with emotional traumas. We all have places in our body that are guarded, where we hold tension. Yoga shines a light on and heals these dark places in our body.”
~ Julie Gudmestad, Iyengar teacher

How that healing unfolds is a fascinating subject in and of itself. Yoga is not like a traditional medical prescription, where you take a pill to gain a desired effect, e.g. lowering your blood pressure. As Julie notes, yoga shines a light on and heals the dark places in the body where we store trauma, emotional scars, or "simply" muscular tightness and tension.

And, as those places let go, more aspects of our being unfold and thrive. Where and how the healing will unfold and changes will manifest we don't know. But over time, invariably, with regular practice - as most any yoga practitioner can attest to - changes slowly do happen and healing unfolds.

Speedy recovery wishes Leslieseniore!!

I'm not a Harry Potter fan but that Harry Potter yoga sounds fun.

Sorry for the TMI but it's the first day of TOM which means, leave me alone in a dark room and nobody gets hurt! I was one with my bed and a few episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt when I decided I needed Yoga With Adriene for that time of the month.

Instead I did her Freedom Glow Yoga and it was more difficult than I wanted today at 8:30pm! But it.... was.... awesome!!! I worked up a sweat that felt glorious and I rocked my there-legged dog. I've never been very good at that!

Now for some meditation to get ready for bed.

I just read about a class in Austin called Harry Potter Yoga, in which every practitioner receives a wand and along the instruction some of the Deadly Hollows passages are read, especially in savasana pose. The studio was fully decorated and the drinks offered were called after the ones in the book, there was even and assignation to the houses with the hat. Probably it was very amusing. People have all kind of ideas in how attract students to the Yoga practice... people.com/bodies/harry-potter-yoga-

I will continue to practice daily meditation and sun salutations in the morning

Today, I took my Yoga with Adriene outside. It was a beautiful early Sunday morning. This felt fantastic!

I tried to post a picture but it kept displaying upside down. You can see it in my blog today.

Thank you so much Mccali59! I like to think that I maintain a positive attitude and stay proactive with my health issues, as challenging as they have been lately.
Gratitude, meditation, and yoga help everything!

Today I did 10 minutes of yoga stretches for walkers and runners after hubby and I took a 3 mile walk. (1 of 10-12)

Namaste everyone!

Sorry to hear about surgery. But you seem to be a bounce back quickly kind of person. Good luck to you.

Welcome July!
I have shoulder surgery tentatively scheduled for July 17th (will confirm next Wednesday after the holiday). So I'm not sure how yoga will go. No down dog or other shoulder intensive poses.

Anyway, I'll tentatively set my yoga practice for 10-12 this month at the studio and at home.

I'll try to keep up with my monthly walking goal~ 50 miles. I'll jog until the surgery and then walk.

Meditation every day will continue, as always, in July.

Namaste everyone!

I'll keep tracking my yoga and meditation in July. I have a lot of time off on the books, and will be attending to Larry at the end of the month when he gets his shoulder replaced!

I intend to complete 12-15 Yoga and Meditation practices 15 minutes minimum, also to keep working on my balance.
