Hi all! Trying to get caught up here. Leslie, best wishes on continued recovery. I love the ujjayi breathing!

Thanks for the article PUNCHILOUIE!

I have decided to be consistent with sun salutations first thing in the morning and track it this time. It got away from me last month. I'm still meditating daily which has been SO beneficial!

Dear team friends, today is the last day of July, hope you are doing fine and are ready for the last Yoga and Meditation practices of the month. Also hope you have found a better balance between your body, mind and spirit, besides the more apparent flexibility and good feeling due to your practice this month.
Namaste!

Good for you Leslie, for using yoga to help the healing process, 2 hours of exercises a day is quite a commitment! I'm sure it's worth it for getting better.

I saw my surgeon for a post op on Friday. The exercises he gave me take an hour twice a day. They are like Yin yoga......slow deep stretch. I've added Ujjayi breathing and some leg work to make it more like a yoga practice. So grateful for yoga. I've done two therapy/ practices since yesterday. Planning on one more tonight after a short walk. (That makes 14 practices this month). I start actual PT once the authorization goes thorough.

Namaste everyone

Hi Yoga Lovers,
I have enjoyed using a modified yoga practice every morning to counteract the stiffness I feel in the morning. I like to do one armed half sun salutations and twists. (12 of 10 for my July intention)

I'm walking every day about 2 miles and my shoulder is healing well. I see the surgeon tomorrow for the 10 day post op. Can't wait to get new instructions.

Meditation and writing 3 Joys daily in a journal has been very helpful to combat any sullen moments when I get impatient.

Namaste everyone!

yes punchilouie i am meditating with oprah and chopra

i have not done any chopra homework before

it is structured. the meditation is easily followed because it is focused quite nicely

but the big picture is the universe and i am a follower on a journey into the universe

my post was of course a repost and reminder, because the meditations cannot be opened after 5days. /requires internet

but come jump in we are following our hearts

All You Need is Yoga

Yoga might be good for flexibility or relaxation, but to be truly fit, do you have to combine it with an activity like running or weight lifting?

Yoga may improve strength, aerobic capacity, and lung function. If you practice yoga, you already knew that. But if you've been told by friends, family, doctors, or even other yoga students that you need to add some power walking for your heart or strength training for your muscles, there's growing evidence that yoga is all you need for a fit mind and body.

Yoga tunes you into your body and helps you to better coordinate your actions. When you bring your breath, your awareness, and your physical body into harmony, you allow your body to work at its maximum fitness capacity. Yoga class is merely a laboratory for how to be in harmony with the body in every activity outside of yoga. The improved physical wellness and fluidity that yoga brings can enhance more than just our physical well-being, as it permeates all levels of our being.

Right before yoga for sleep last night, I sprayed the calming essential oils I put together over the weekend. I love nighttime yoga but that scent made it that much more relaxing. I really let it all go!

I was drifting off to sleep during shavasana when I felt my labrador breathing down on me. I had to laugh when I opened my eyes to see her looking down on me, impatiently wanting to go out.

Ummmm! Essential oils and legs up a wall meditation, Kellie Bean! Heavenly!

I did 15 minutes of Yin Poses to counter act stiffness today. I meditated and used good breathing techniques focusing on letting go and being "at ease" as our great leader, Punchilouie, always reminds us! (10 of 10 for my July intention)

Tonight my husband and I are going for a walk at sundown when it cools down!

Namaste everyone!

Still working the daily yoga and meditation habit. I love meditating with my legs up against a wall.

I mixed up some essential oil sprays, two for me and gave two to my daughter.

Good morning everyone.
I've continued to do seated poses, twists, and some standing poses to stay limber. I have to follow the doctor's restrictions but careful stretching is really helping. I did some very slow 1/2 sun salutations with one arm and lots of breathing. So nice. (9 of 10).

Meditation and breathing are helping my sleep. Thank you Patricia for your caring comments.

I've been out to walk slowly and gently. Feels good.

Hello all! Last of the tests came back normal. I'm perfectly healthy. I always knew yoga and meditation are good for me and the last two weeks, I have been reminded just how much I need both on a consistent basis!

I'm also loving the legs-up-the-wall pose at night. I've been meditating in that position the last few evenings! It helps with post-run tightness and helps with sleep so win win.

I love your consistent water aerobics habit BIGPOPPAPUFF.

Glad things are going well since surgery Leslie.

I'm hanging in. I went for a 5 mile run/walk last night to the library to pick up a book and felt great. Meditation is soothing the savage beast.

It's a gloomy, stormy day here. Wishing I could be curled up watching movies but work must be done.

Hi Yoga Lovers,
It's my second full day after surgery. Things are going very well, i think. I had a 3 hour wait in the pre-op room all hooked up so I used the time to do seated yoga poses on and off and some very calming breathing techniques. So I'm counting that as 8 of 10 for the month.

I love your comments, Kay, about yoga not being a competition. Patricia reminds us of that too. It is such a personal practice and varies day to day. I'm definitely modifying poses and stretches to help with overall stiffness from surgery and also pain management.

I'm so sorry about your cardiac scare, Kellie. I'm glad you are having all the tests done. I know how hard it is to wait for results. Meditation is so helpful.

Wishing you all Namaste tonight.

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know. AS BILL SEES IT

BIGPOPPAPUFF great yoga/pilates!

KAYOTIC well said, every day is different and our bodies are different, every day we learn something if we listen to what they tell us and certainly is our personal journey...

KELLIEBEAN good that you did a Ariene's practice, hope you are feeling better, taking your time to see what's going on with your body and mind. Being mindful helps to deal with stress and anxiety too. Take care!

MCCALI59 great that we agree with what KAYOTIC have said, hope your Yoga and Meditation journey is a good one for you!

If I've learned anything from all the yoga I've done over these past years it's that it's not a competition, it's a practice, and doing what I can on the mat for that day is good enough.

14 days of yoga for the month, 18 days of meditation. I started a "rehab" pack on headspace yesterday, day 1.

KAYOTIC, glad to hear you modify your poses as needed. I have seen many people just say "I can't bend that way" or "I'm sore here and there so I can't do that".

I did some Yoga With Adriene last night. It's escaping me now which one I did but it felt great. Legs up the wall right before bed helps.

Onward with the hump day!

Deepen Your Focus

A good deal of mystique has grown around meditation, yet it is one of the most natural of our human capacities. You've no doubt had moments in your life when you were not thinking or analyzing your experience, but simply "going with the flow." In these moments, there was no past or future, no separation between you and what was happening. That is the essence of meditation.

Contrary to a common misunderstanding, meditation is not a limiting or narrowing of our attention so much as it is a focusing on what is relevant. Our attention can be narrow, as in observing our breath, or broad, as in cooking a five-course dinner. When the mind is able to focus on what is relevant to what is happening now, we experience ourselves as being at one with what we perceive. This experience is deeply joyful, as we become freed from the illusion that we are separate from everything else in the universe. In fact, meditation isn't a withdrawal from life but a deeper, fuller presence in life.

KELLIEBEAN so sorry to hear about your cardiac scare, anxiety, stress all affect, and you have been under a lot of stress, like KAYOTIC suggested take minutes along the day to breath and meditate to relief the stress, easy said than done , I know, but when you feel like anxiety is knocking at the door, take a seat back you activities and breath. This is my daughter's cognitive therapist advice, she suffers of anxiety and panic attacks, it has helped her but at the beginning, it is hard to take the seat back, just keep trying and you'll get there looking your life from a "detached"perspective. Hope your results come back ASAP. Take care.

Hi all. Sorry been MIA. Had a bit of a cardiac scare Friday, it was a false alarm but I've been concerned why that happened. So reason for an anxiety attack. I have gone through all the routine preventative screenings in the last few days and it seems the older I get, the more frightened I get over this stuff. I've got to get a grip. It's going to feel like forever to get all the results early next week. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG???!

Thanks goodness for meditation although I feel like I need to do it every hour!

I'm headed to a level 1 yoga class that I've never been to at the studio. (7 of 10) I'm sure I'll be modifying, but I want to get as much yoga in as possible before surgery. I need all the fortification I can get.

I'm up to 14 days of meditation, 10 days of yoga for the month. I got to Budokon on Thursday, and it was rough, the many planks were aggravating my wrist (seems like we spent a lot of time in that position!) so savasana at the end was really a welcome treat!

Hi Yoga Lovers,

Wednesday, I went to a Yin practice at the studio. It was so meditative and calming (5 of 10)

This morning I went to a Level 1 practice at the studio. She is so good at showing modifications for my shoulder. We did so much leg work that my legs are shaking. (6 of 10)

Meditations every morning is mandatory! So helpful right now for focus and release of negative energy.

My walking has been somewhat limited with the excessive heat, but I'm getting in short mileage here and there.

Monday is my shoulder surgery so I don't know what I'll be able to do with my practice. Only time will tell. I've talked to all my yoga instructors and they agree that I could eventually come to practice just for the good energy, breathing, meditation, and limited movement. I hope that is what I can do.

Namaste everyone. I love reading all the great and inspiring posts!!!!!

Hello all,
PunchiLouie, Patrica Walden and Rodney Yee were my very first Yoga DVD's and I still use them often. They are my favorites!
I'm planning some outdoor yoga sessions this week to keep on track. And some deep breathing exercises. Thanks for more techniques, PunchiLouie.
The food mindfulness is fun. Last night I made a smokey grill cheese on sweet cranberry, walnut, wildrice artisan bread. With cukes and vinegar for the sour. When I slow down, the food taste so much better! And I've noticed watermelon is really very sweet!
I'll be gone for 2 wks now but will checkin when I return.
have a great day and weekend everyone.

SUSIELYNN50 how interesting to find out how really food taste, it is very refreshing to hear you explaining it to us, share what else you discover. I'll pay more attention with the celery, I love it, I love its crunchiness and watery feeling after I bite into it, but so far I haven't paid attention to its saltiness... I had some wings last night and OH BOY , they were spice, hot, hot, hot, the point of my tongue is damaged today...why do we like to suffer I wonder......Glad you found the breathing technique useful.

I learned this breathing technique for relaxation from Rodney Yee in his AM and PM Yoga dvd; he focus in the AM practice and Patricia Walden in the PM practice. Also Barbara Benagh uses it in her dvd Yoga for Stress Relief in which she adressed: troubled sleep, insommia, mild depression, among other health issues and show Yoga sequences and breathing techniques to helpdeal with them.

KELLIEBEAN hope your daughter's friend recovers, may she be healthy soon!positive thoughts
Also positive thought to you, being supportive and have sympathy and empathy have the price of our peace of mind, hope you'll find yours to keep being there for your friend. Breath! Take care! Maybe some chair poses and breathing while you are at the hospital....for you and your friend..

BIGPOPPAPUFF water aerobics with water weights and yoga/pilates sounds fantastic to me. Best wishes.

Hi all, interesting mindfulness technique SusieLynn

I slept a lot last night after an emotional Tuesday. Still a bit groggy. My friend's daughter is having a rough recovery day which was expected. I tend to absorb others' stress and anxiety. Meditating after work helped.

Looking forward to some Yoga With Adriene later unless my friend needs me at the hospital.

Will be doing my 1 hr yoga class tonight. And some meditation and gratefulness at the end.
I also liked the Breathing technique, PunchiLouie. I tried it last night.

My mindful eating is interesting. I am trying new things to trigger all the different tastes so I can fully appreciate. Like bitter endive salad with sour fresh lemon juice dressing, and sweet craisins. And I've noticed that celery really does taste somewhat salty!!

Have a good day all. Namaste~

Thank you PUNCHILOUIE for the breathing technique!!! Yesterday we had an emotionally challenging couple hours with one of our special needs volunteers then I spent about five hours sitting with my best friend who's daughter was undergoing a 12-hour double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. She's young and healthy but she tested positive for the BRAC gene last year and decided to have this done.

All went well but when I got to bed about midnight I was too wound up to sleep. Then I remembered what you had posted. Calmed me right down.
