My gosh, I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted here. I had to go back forever to catch up on you all! Been busy working on projects at the cabin as well as at home. It's a gorgeous day here in Western MN, and sounds like tomorrow will be, too. Walking back to work after lunch my darn heel was really hurting. I will give it a while longer, then back to the podiatrist I will go, but he said the next step would be surgery, and I do NOT want that! If I have to be off one foot I will wait until winter and just put up with the discomfort until then. I'm considering trying either physical therapy or possible a chiropractor before I have any surgery. It's frustrating! The good news is that my ins company paid for almost all of my custom orthotics. Tomorrow my new flooring goes in at the cabin and we will pick up an updated hide-a-bed sofa. It will then be almost totally "refreshed" and will be more fun to spend time there. We are still planning to list it for sale when we're done, but plan to keep the price at the high end for now since we don't HAVE to sell and won't unless the price is right. After work we are meeting with a financial planner to discuss retirement options.

The wind is cold today, blowing out of the north and the smoke is coming down from Fort Mac. Such a terrible fire---it's scary to just see the pics on TV never mind being a part of that community.

Joy your GGS is the cutest little guy who brings you much joy and he is good company I'm sure. I hear you when you talk about all the yard work as I am in the same boat. Yesterday I was out spraying the dandelions and the day before I sprayed all the weeds coming up in my garden. We are a month to 6 weeks ahead in our season so I'm thinking of putting the garden in before the long weekend which is the usual time for gardens to be planted in our sunny Alberta.

The renos in the basement are slowly coming to an end. Drywall plastering should be completed on Friday and I think that will be the day the sanding will be done. More dust!! Oh well, the first layer is still here too so I will get it all taken care of once and not doing it every day!! Then there will be painting to do but once the bathroom is done, the rest will be "rainy day" jobs cause I prefer to be outdoors on warm sunny days doing the many things that I love to do out there even though some of those jobs are laborious.

I have the quarterly farm books to do so must run for now. Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All, emoticon I ended up working in the yard in the rain yesterday! It was the only way I could get anything done; alas, JERI is right and it may just be too cold to do that today. Have plenty inside and out to keep me busy. I just enjoy the outside more.

I did yesterday's missed weigh in today and the scale finally budged showing a 4.5 pound loss. That's not to say it's that predictable; it never fails to surprise me. Pleased it's in the right direction this time!

Have a lot of mulching in my future yet, buying it a bit at a time. Yard is looking good. Water logged but good. Heading into a big weekend here, for many it's the Derby, for me it's GGS's second birthday! Smiles.

No, not terrible two! This picture makes me laugh because it's so unlike him. I asked him to walk away from Xena; she was warning him and he wasn't getting the message. ;)

Hello everyone,

it's been an awesome day here and I got so much power walking in . Tonight was the best when I went out on my own after taking the dogs and I did 5 miles in 67 minutes just walking it. I am pleased with my time.
Lots of things accomplished today with my mom and painting in our kitchen and with getting appointments at the transplant clinic. I am so pleased to see them moving forward with my son and I so quickly.

Jeri, love the photo of your finish in the HM. You look awesome and I know how you feel with the weight loss.

I need to get some gardening done in my front now as the locators came today so our contractors will probably move the concrete porch next week and start the work . I have to get the flowers transplanted asap so I don't lose them through the process and I also have to dig out the weeds that seem to be growing quicker and healthier than the flowers.

I'm a bit tired right now after the power walk so I will say good night but not before wishing everyone a fantastic day tomorrow. Our great weather is going to repeat for several days so I am in my element right now.

Evening been a busy but good day at work catching up after days off , was just going for a lunch time walk when a student came to see me needing support so took up most of my afternoon but worthwhile.
Jeri you have done great I do keep making excuses for my spreading middle, love the sprint to the finish.
Joy glad you are getting back into your stride just a few minor adjustments in your routine like you say the scales can dominate
Caz read your blog another trip to London but hopefully nearer getting sorted out looking forward to all the hot weather we are promised this week end

Another warm day, evacuation of 53,000 people from Fort McMurray continues, no deaths but much property loss.
I'm counting my blessings today, grateful to have a quiet life. Went on a lovely walk this morning. Life is good.

Good Morning All!
WOW JERI! What an uplifting post! I LOVE that finish line picture! FINISHING STRONG! It doesn't get any better than that! I too am seeing changes, nothing like 20#; but I'd be happy with 5. I am seeing the results of my consistent morning core work for the last 6 weeks. It all works, if we do! I actually forgot to weigh this morning! Not a bad thing, better in my opinion, than being obsessed with the scale. I'll weigh tomorrow. I usually weigh in the morning before breakfast, coffee and meds.

CAZ I need to follow your lead if I'm going to get in any garden time. These storms keep coming mid afternoon. I need to get out there this morning if I'm going to get anything done. I did get some holes patched and reseeded in the back lawn late yesterday. Need to cover them this morning and prepare a spot in the big garden for the tomato plants. Anything in the ground is growing like mad. Got some good weeding done yesterday too. Have a plan and make it a great day everyone! emoticon

Operation Deflabbify is going really well lately. Even though we are maintaining, we must stay on track!! I let myself go last year. It was a shock to see the doctor's scale on the Monday after Thanksgiving. I knew I'd gained, but it was a ridiculous amount!! So now I'm almost 20 lbs lighter again, and I am getting a lot stronger! I stopped the triathlons, because honestly, I don't have time for it all. I am working on running stronger and faster again, and I am strength training. My arms are toning, my belly is flattening (flat for me, anyway), and my legs could kick you into the middle of next week!!! Operation Deflabbify is awesome!! I've had so many body changes with the addition of good strength training!

And... I finally got a good race pic! I've had good pics that my husband has taken, but official photographers have not historically been kind to me. Even in the Derby Half Marathon I just did, I missed seeing the photographer at one spot on the course, and he caught me digging my underpants out of my butt with one hand, and adjusting my shorts in the front with the other hand. And in the next frame I was scratching my nose! Then I saw the photographer and thought, "Oh crap!!" The pictures from that particular spot in the race looked just as I imagined they would. However... Finish line pics were great!!! Here's a pic of me sprinting to the finish line. I was running fast and hard.

Has anyone on this team received a wack of weird email failures today?
I and another member who is a friend have both been sent error messages from emails that said we sent them but we did not.

Not sure if Spark People members have been hacked or if it is my gmail email address. When I went to my gmail address (the one I use for Spark People) I looked in the sent folder and there were numerous emails sent apparently by me but I did not send them.

The sun is out! Yayyyy! emoticon
I have moved my cucumber and tomato plants out the back deck to get some sunshine for the day. Soon I will be able to leave them out without fear of losing them to cold nights.

Getting ready to paint the kitchen today now that all the prep work is done. Hubby has to take his mom to the the doctor first then we get busy.
I'm hoping there will be time still for a lengthy power walk................no there WILL be time made for a power walk.

Wishing everyone a great day.

Good Morning All, It will be a busy but unplanned day today. The question lately is "inside or out"? I have plenty to do both; the pop up storms have been wreaking havoc with any plans lately. They seem to hit mid to late afternoon; my favorite yard time. I like doing the household things in the morning. We'll see. I did get my shopping done yesterday and some geranium starts planted yesterday evening. All is well here and I'm kind of enjoying the luxury of an "unplanned" day. Stay well. emoticon

LJ, scary! You will be picking up glass shards for years. We had a glass panel blow out of our deck railing system 11 years ago and we still see little cubes of glass.
Chris and I hit the gym before 7:30 this morning then breakfast on the deck, a shower and some laundry before starting out on a walk.
Snickers and I headed down hill and wound up on the beach. All told it was 3.26 mi in 1 hr 8 min. Those hills are killer on the upside! We stopped on the way up the big hill and I cupped my hand and gave Snick some water from a bottle I carry.
Now time to relax........................

beautiful sunny day here, prediction is we'll beat the record for tomorrow. Finished cleaning up the safety glass ( why it wasn't a more serious event), treated some weeds, read on the deck for a few minutes....An easy day. Got a dr appt for tomorrow, hope some tests might indicate something that can be done.
Susan, I am down to one peony and agree with you that they are so lovely but the weight of the blossom heads can make them look shabby. My bleeding hearts are spectacular this year. Tulips were also lovely. Oh and the dandelions are pretty healthy too!

Good morning everyone,

I don't like the weather today. Again we have rain and no sign of sunshine.
I will make the bets of it.

Lynette that is definitely a scary story about the table and now I am determined more than ever to get rid of ours and get something that is non glass. With having three little dogs that like to hang out with us it would be terrible if this happened with them around the table.
I'm so glad to hear that you were not hurt badly.

Joy I so want to get gardening done here but it isn't warm enough yet to plant any annuals.
I need drier weather as well. I have to move my peony bush that is at our front porch before they move the porch to put a new base but not sure where to put it.
I transplanted one before and I lost it. I love peonies except after a rain when the stems are not strong enough to support the large blooms.

Well, I better get a move on. I saw a 2 lb weight loss this morning and I am sparked to get in some exercise before the day gets ahead of me.
Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All, Sunny and clear this morning; as yesterday; but, it didn't stay that way. I was inside in the morning giving the yard time to dry out a little. Then when I went out in the afternoon I got my tools out and a storm popped up! It was that way all afternoon, I'd come in-it would clear. I'd go out, another storm popped up! Crazy day. Finally gave up on the yard but did get in a good walk with Sugar in the evening. Maybe I just needed a rest day.

Today will be shopping and/or planting as well as moving more perennials. Not sure yet; the afternoon could turn on me again. I'm flexible and all is well here.

ANNE and CAZ, enjoy your gardens today!

LJ that's a scary story on the shattered table! I'm so glad it wasn't worse! Glad you are both OK. It had to be difficult to clean up; careful out there still!

Make it a great day everyone!

Love that bridge photo! I admire your dedication to running.
Weather was lovely here today and a friend and I had eaten our lunch subs on my deck. Suddenly, a gust of wind grabbed the umbrella and crashed it into the table which expoded in a million pces. We picked the shards out of ourselves ( only one bled significantly), then got busy cleaning up the mess. Not the afternoon we had planned!
I want to say thanks for your messages of support. That means a lot to me. emoticon

Good evening ladies,

had a great day with my aunt and uncle here for the afternoon and dinner. I felt lazy however because I was siting most of the day chatting with them so as soon as they left at 7:50 I was out the door wit Tyson for a one hour power walk. I am so glad I got that in before it got too dark.

I still want to do some sunning inside before the day ends.

Jeri, love the pictures and glad you had a good race time wise. Better weather would have been nice but when you are among friends, it makes it fun anyways.
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.

Looking forward to better weather next week (fingers crossed) and wishing everyone a fantastic week.

Well 8pm and just done my May blog had a busy couple of days. Been a warm sunny day here and even managed to sit out in the garden for a while this afternoon, after I cut the grass. Jeri nice photos sorry you got wet but sounds like it did not hold you back. I hope your dad has a good day I know you never thought he would make another birthday and hopefully he will be aware you are there.
A Bank Holiday (public holiday) for us in the UK tomorrow so hopefully more gardening. Wishing everyone a good month

Good Morning All!

JERI, how cool to have the bridge all to yourself! That picture is priceless! Bumper to bumper is more the norm. We were thinking of you! Glad the day went so well!

I think the rain is past here for awhile. The yard needs some dry time this morning then I hope to get out mid afternoon and replant some of the perennials I dug up yesterday. Staying busy. Had a 3.6 pound loss for April; will blog on that soon and continue accountability on my status through May in hopes that will get me back in my goal range. It did help in April. Got me moving back in the right direction. Thank you all for your support!

Good morning! Today is my dad's 84th birthday. I didn't think he would see last year, let alone this year's birthday. We are going to the nursing home at 2:00 for a party (to watch him sleep).

Yesterday's race went really, really well!! It started raining about mile 5. It started pouring by mile 8, just when we started running on the Churchill Downs track (where the horses will be running next weekend). I was soaked!!!! We stayed with a friend I met on Spark in 2008. Deej4Fitness. She lives on the Indiana side of Louisville, and her house overlooks the river. We walked across the Ohio River to the race start, about 2 miles, and then had to walk back. It was fun! I ran a really, really good race. Of course, Deej beat me. She always does. I'm no slow slouch. She is just super fast! We were so unbelievably wet by the time we got done racing. And then we had to make our way through the finish line, the scores of people, etc. We spent a good hour post-race just with finish line festivities in the rain.

Anyway, here is a pic the night before:

And here is a pic post-race, walking back across the bridge into Indiana. They had the bridge traffic closed due to the race on the Kentucky side. They gave out mylar blankets at the finish line. That's what we were carrying over our heads.

LJ nice to see you, hope you feel more like your ole self soon.

Beautiful day here, so a lovely beach walk is in order and some gardening. I've done my duty in the loft for now! Pete's got a small section to finish today where I (because of my short height) could not reach.

WoW! what a day. It certainly has been filled with housework, laundry, scrubbing floors, cooking dinner, baking for tomorrow's company and 40 minutes walking the dogs. I am always in my element when I am busy like this but I must admit I am looking forward to tomorrow to relaxing with good company and a nice dinner that I will be cooking.

Lynette, hope the anxiety gets relieved and you will be feeling better soon. It must be so difficult to go through days feeling this way. Hopefully with the summer arriving, it will be able to help you get into better spirits. Chin up dear friend and surround yourself with positive forces.

Sending best wishes out to all for a great Sunday.

Glad to have you drop in, LJ. Sorry you aren't feeling tip-top. Hang in there. Positive attitude is sometimes difficult but always helpful.
We hit the gym early this morning and after breakfast I walked before showering then sweeping and vacuuming and doing laundry.
It's a beautiful day here and I believe I will just enjoy it.

Hello all, dropped in to check up on you! And to let you know that I am still kickin. My brother was here for several days, helping out with tasks around the house. I have been selling things on kijij which as helped with the de-cluttering and the bank account, both high priority!
Weight has been going down as my appetite is still not good and I've been dealing with fatigue, but I intend to see my doc to have some tests. I'm sick of being depressed but mind over matter doesnt seem to be achieving a turn around. Joy, you are an inspiration to me as well. I always feel uplifted when I read your posts.
Have a wonderful weekend everybody

Good Morning All!
JERI, thinking of you and hoping you are having a good run. It's 8:55 here now and I know the half marathon started at 7:30. Looking at the weather map it looks like the front edge of today's rain is just getting there. Storms coming; stay safe.

Four hours in the yard digging perennials, replanting some and mulching yesterday. I will take it easier today. First job will be to go pick up 6 more bags of mulch in case I'm surprised with a nice afternoon before more storms arrive this evening. I haven't decided about the jazz concert this afternoon yet; nice days are for outside. I did sleep well last night.

Thanks CAZ, I sure don't feel like an inspiration; but I do believe the body is capable of healing itself under the right circumstances. It's hard for me to accept I'll be on these meds forever; but I will take them as long as needed. I will push for a re-evaluation of the heart issues when it's time for my physical in June. I continue reducing the steroids for the arteritis (spelling is correct) and that is going well. I think this weight struggle right now is fluid related. I think I need to be drinking more water but it's hard to know how much after that water intoxication episode that landed me in the ER on labor day. That never should have happened with the amount of water I drank that day; but it did. I think it's related to the heart meds. I'm trying to let my thirst be my guide as I know all this yard work has to be dehydrating me. I have to find a new normal; but frankly, it's scary. I drink a full glass of water each time I take any pills; between meds and supplements that's automatically 5 glasses a day. So, most likely easily 8 a day but that may not even be enough on major yard work days. Moon face seems to come and go now; at least I see "myself" in the mirror once in awhile. I'm pretty sure regaining my strength is related to reducing the prednisone by half now. It's all very strange; but I am extremely grateful for how it's going. Yes, my being in good shape from the beginning definitely was a bonus! Stay well everyone! emoticon

Joy you are an inspiration to me.......you've really turned your health around and I am so proud of you for taking charge and doing all you can in that respect. Yes you've had help from the doctors but your spirit and attitude has had a lot to do with it. Glad to hear you can do so much in a day now......I think you're entitled to flake out at the end of the day LOL
Jeri good luck with the 1/2 marathon today.Hope your eyes will be okay. Take care.
Susan good to hear. your son's appt went well.
Verna I think we all need to take 10 mins to ourselves this weekend LOL.........fat chance emoticon
Cat that is so sad! Such a shame when a good restaurant closes. At least you got one last meal in there on your Anniversary. We do wear masks hun. I even tried wearing a shower cap for my hair but it just got too uncomfortable.

Last noggings of it today (DH promises.........yeah right!)

Howdy all.
A morning at the dog groomer. I look like a stuffed animal with all the dog hair my cloths collected!!
Bummer last night at dinner. Food was great but we found out the place is closing and tonight is their last dinner serving. Our favorite Italian place - gone. The owner has some nerve retiring!!!!!
I brought home 2/3 of my dinner so I'll get to enjoy more of it tonight.
Have fun tomorrow, Jeri.
Susan, good update on your son.
Verna, I love hearing your calf stories.
Joy, I had to stop doing my power cord knotting due to my thumb problems so I know how you feel about leaving your knitting sit for a season.
Hi Patti.
Caz, wear a mask sanding that plaster.
Everyone else emoticon

Happy Anniversary Cat. It's nice to go out on an anniversary or any day for that matter.

Susan I'm happy to read that your son's eye appointment went well. I like going to Tim Hortons as well and I check out their nutrition page to see what I can eat and stay within my calorie allotment - not always an easy task!! I hope you are more "up" today. If the sun shines in your area that will help.

Jerri I hope your eyesight is good for your marathon. Hate to think of you falling down because your eyes were giving you a rainbow of colors at an inappropriate time. I've had laser surgery on one eye due to floaters and once in a while they float past but not much anymore. A rainfall of floaters is not good!!

Joy I'm so glad your GD's medical issues aren't as bad as she feared.

Seems like most of us are working hard either inside or outside and running into trouble in the eating department, either overeating or in Jerri's case undereating!! Every one of us overeat when bored or tired. Good that we know what causes it at least -- now to figure out how to stay out of the kitchen.

I have lots to do today so am signing off with a wish for everyone to have a great day.

Good morning everyone,

the sun is trying to be out but we still have a lot of cloud coverage right now. Got some cycling in this morning and now going to head out on my own for a lengthy power walk. Not sure how far it will take me but hoping for at least a 15 k.

By the way, my son's eye appointment with the specialist went well. He told my son the fluid build up behind the eye will come and go and it is cause by his renal failure. Once Ryan has a new functioning kidney, the problem should go away.

Have a fabulous day everyone.

Good morning. I had a good workout this morning, but not too strenuous. Saving my energy for the half marathon tomorrow -- which promises to be WET!!! I just hope it doesn't storm.

Yesterday I had scar tissue lasered off my eye. There was apparently quite a bit of it. She told me it would be falling down and moving around a lot until it settles to the bottom. Today I am seeing weird stuff. It's like bubbles keep bursting in front of my eye. Very weird sensation. My vision should start improving now, though. So yay!

Good Morning All, Watching havoc across the South with flooding and tornadoes; thankful all missed us yesterday but prayers for those poor people! Here, nice day in the 50's today and rain, but not severe weather, this weekend. Had fun at a jazz concert last night and if Sat. is a rainy day; may go to another in the afternoon. Nice days are for outside! CAZ, I'm so tired by the end of the day I can't even keep my hands busy! Have been falling asleep in my chair "hating to give up my relax time"! How silly is that!? My needlework has sat next to my chair all winter! Yesterday was spreading mulch and weeding. This past winter I didn't even have the hand strength to knit; I can't tell you how good it feels to be "almost" back to normal. Today should be dry so I will be taking care of things in the house this morning and spend the afternoon in the yard. Life is good.

Morning Guys

Joy mum's the word emoticon .glad she's okay.
Garden is looking good hun!!
........I wish!!! Let's just say I want the loft done now, tired of sanding but know it will be worth it for a good finish, He gotall the walls covered in Level 5 (a mix of plaster and finish) and I've gone around after hum and got about a third of it lightly sanded off (ad per instructions) so we're getting there.
Half day off today to get the shopping in! LOL.
Jeri enjoy your break with your Sparkfriend.Good luck with the race!
Cat do ever get the feeling this team is ALWAYS on the go and go to bed "done in" LOL. You certainly have become a gym bunny emoticon .Hope you enjoyed your celebratory meal.
Susan good that Ryan has you in his corner hun, I really hope it all works out for him with you as a donor. FINGERS CROSSED. Good of DH to take you out, you obviously needed some down time
Verna ....another busy lady! What will you use your basement for when it's done?
Joy and Jeri I think it's good your know your triggers for poor eating, for me it's tiredness or boredom- evening eating used to be poor before I learned to keep my hands busy.

Might go to the cliff front before shopping to take in the sea view..............never get bored of it, it's different every day,
