Thanks for the support and encouragement, everyone :) I did indeed go out this weekend and explore! Paddle boarding, Thai food, and Mt. Tapochau!

A good way to calm the travel bug :)

*lol* Hooray for travelers!

Jane - You're absolutely right! I talked with a friend for a while about this last night, and I think that's part of the issue: there are many cool places to see here, but we haven't gotten out to them!

We just moved in to our rental house about a month ago, and every night and weekend has been about trying to clean it up (That, and doing research for my job...) Th house is a mess - dirty, moldy, rusted... but has amazing potential to be a great place, which is why we took it. That, and the last tenant promised she'd have it cleaned up for us... which she didn't. (The landlord has been trying to help us, so that's good) So I've been missing out on all of those things!

I told my hubby that this weekend we need to take a break and go to Managaha, or some of the museums.

We've been to a lot of places already - and I really need to be more grateful about the exploration I can do here! There are amazing things here :)

I think part of my issue was also Dave's talk of wanting to get a dog. While I understand the benefits of having a good guard dog (for the house, for jogging) I think it just made me feel too tied down. I DO want to do a RTW trip some day, and a dog won't fit in to that picture. So I think I had a fear that he was going to push for a dog and that was going to tie me down too much. So we've been talking about that a lot, too.

Thanks for listening guys - and can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Kisha, have you been to the Grotto, or out on the island that the Chuukese Chiefs are buried? What about the Forbidden Island? When you prepare for a trip do you look into the history of the places you are going? Have you explored the Marpi area? What about a weekend trip to Rota and see the bird sanctuary? Tinian has WWII history as the place where the planes carrying the Atomic bombs took off from.

Then blog about these areas giving a little history and some pictures.

You are living where few people have ever been and many would love to see.

A few years ago I did a field trip / sight seeing here to make sure my grands knew something about this island. They had not been to many of the places we went to and were not aware they were there.

Hope I have given you some ideas to assuage your wonder lust.

Jane

...and I knew you guys would be able to relate!

Lately, even having just moved overseas 3 months ago, I can't figure out why I'm bummed and getting the itchy feet again to travel already. And that's stupid - I am in a cool place with a cool job. But I saw a friend's post that she was reading the book The Lost Girls, and then learned that's actually a blog about 3 friends who dropped their lives in NY and did a round-the-world trip together.

And I was insanely jealous! I don't know if I just don't want to be "forced" to work and want a nice long vacation, if I'm just romanticizing the idea of seeing new cultures, if I am just trying to run from something within that I don't want to or know how to deal with, or if I truly DO just want to see India and Africa and everywhere else! Maybe I really DO want to stay at an Ashram in India, or ride elephants in Thailand, and volunteer with people in the Philippines! I don't *think* it's about running away, but wanting to run towards different ways of living and explore more of what this globe has to offer!

But of course, my husband is the kind who would be totally content to just stay in the same city all the time, he's simply happy to just be at home with me. It's super sweet and all, but he doesn't get me when I start talking about travel...

So I was just feeling a little alone in my travel-bug fever and thought I'd reach out to some like-minded friends :)
