I always recommend travel insurance. I have seen too many people get sick or injured while in a foreign country, and that includes the Caribbean.

I have an example, I will never forget. One of my clients called me as his mother had fallen while in Israel on a trip with a group. I got what info he had, found the company and he contacted them to find out about her. The organization has flown someone over to Israel to bring her home and fortunately it was near the end of the trip. It would have cost her thousands without insurance.

Another message in this. Leave the name of the company you are traveling with family.

Check with your credit card company when you call to let them know you'll be abroad (you have to let them know so they don't think your card has been stolen when charges from overseas start coming in!). I have a Mastercard and my particular card offers travel insurance (including health, trip cancellation and baggage) for $99/year. I didn't know until AFTER I'd bought other insurance that was more than twice that for only two months' coverage!

Stats: Female, 5'4", 28 years old.

Goal: From 152 (07/24/2011) to 125 by December, 2011. DONE! December 4th weighed in at 124. In 2012 I've been maintaining around 122, which is a thirty pound loss. My BMI has gone from 26.1 to 20.9 since following the Spark plan!

I buy my travel insurance from Blue Cross. I live in Canada though but perhaps they have a Blue Cross in the US too. I usually get it each year for Canada and the US but also got it when I went to Mexico and Costa Rica.

My niece, who is two years younger than me, use to be a travel agent. When my son traveled a year ago she got him insurance for the duration of the trip. He had been diagnosed with gout while in Saipan but while in the states got to the point he was in so much pain all over she took him to the doctor. He has rheumatoid arthritis. The trip insurance paid for the doctor and medical expenses.

I wish I had the trip insurance when I broke my ankle last summer! I would not be facing a $14,???. hospital bill that the local insurance company paid $15,???. of $30,???.!!!

A great company that I have used a lot is insuremytrip.com
You can pick your level of coverage and it is for just the days of your travel.
I always get insurance because I was in a very bad car accident in Mexico (I was not hurt but my sister had a major head injury) it taught me things can go wrong and it is better to be prepared. Hope you have a blast in OZ!

if it is a package deal the company selling it sells insurance. i would not go to any place that had so many dangers to my life. because of all the killings in mexico i refuse to travel there. no place is worth visiting if your life is in danger.

I didn't go through a travel agency. Hmm, I should look into purchasing travel insurance there. Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can purchase travel health insurance? I don't have health insurance at the moment. I will be traveling to OZ in late December and would like to purchase travel health insurance now. (I heard you have to purchase in advance.) The trip will be for two weeks. I don't want to go without any form of health coverage since there's a risk of heat stroke (Uluru reaches 140 deg F), shark attack (great white shark trip), koala or kangaroo mauling in Brisbane, spider or snake bite (Australia has the most dangerous spiders and snakes of the world!), etc. I can easily die within a matter of minutes, and in case if I get bit or something, I would like to be covered.
