Hi Kimberly and Welcome! I'm Bill and I, too, have trouble staying (oh look - a shiny) motivated ;) Have had gym memberships (often concurrently) at the Y, Max Fitness, KoKoFit,... Now back to just the Y but have to get myself INSIDE the door (and I can WALK to Southside!)

Twice your age+ with knee/back/lung issues but can manage 4-5mph avg walk/jog around the neighborhood. I've plateaued around 160-165 but am aiming for college range around 130-135. Need to get back to the gym for strength training to supplement the cardio!

Thanks for helping put that back on the front burner! :)

Hi Gerriroe! I just got into tennis myself and we had our first beginners league on Tuesday. I usually attend the clinics and classes over at the Lamar Tennis Center at the Y on Perkins Road. I also attend clinics on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings. I'm have a ton of fun with it! I'm in love with tennis (see what I did there?!)

It was Fitz Blend Nutrition Shop, 11575 Coursey. It seems to have smoothies, deli type sandwiches, etc. I need to check it out. It would be nice to have a place to go sit and enjoy a healthy meal. I also go to Serops and get the Feta Salad. I go to Logan's Roadhouse for the Salmon Steak, served with a big tree of broccoli and the salad with fat-free dressing. (The hard part is telling the waitor NOT to bring the fresh baked rolls!)

Ooh - Let me know the name of that restaurant if you find it. I'd be willing to try it out. Where else do you like to go eat and what do you order when you get there? One of my favorites is Jason's Deli salad bar! We also go to McAlister's a lot.

I'm back after being gone for a very long time. I gained a lot of my weight back :( but I'm hoping I've learned something from that experience. I've got a long way to go and I'll be checking here for a Baton Rouge meet up of some type. I noticed a restaurant (was it on Coursey?) that only served healthy food for fitness. I'm going to have to investigate! haha

The parades do sound like a fun way to add steps. I find I'm looking for reasons to get up from my desk at work more often: walk to a friend's office to chat instead of emailing, walk to the printer for each print job instead of waiting for a group of jobs to be printed, walking to fill up my water/ice cup more often! I got the Spark Activity Tracker and I LOVE watching those little green light add up!

One good way to get some extra steps in is to go to the Mardi Gras parades over the next month. I went last night and today, and I can say the steps really add up. As long as you don't partake in all the concessions or candy, you'll burn calories and make memories while having fun. :)

We can go the distance with patience and endurance.

I was just researching other places and found that one. I also found Definitions Fitness on Nicholson. It's $10/month, no contract, for just the machines or $20/month, 1-year contract, for unlimited classes and tanning sessions (yeah, right). Gonna go by there and check it out.

I was at MaxFitness on Highland Road. It's only $20/month - no contract. But there's no track, no pool... just a lot of fitness equiptment. I didn't love it. But if you're looking for cheap, it's an option.

Just checked. UREC is not such a good deal anymore. Used to be about $20/mo. Now it's $38/mo - same as a regular health club. Guess I'll check some of the clubs around this part of town.

Oh... I'll bet the UREC is a good deal for you, then. I might not join that one, but I think Exerfit on Bluebonnet might let us pay just to walk their track. I'll have to look in to that. Thanks for the idea!

Oh, sorry, that's the University Recreation Center. The health club for LSU students, but they let us staff join also. It's much cheaper than a public health club. I think they let the general public join, too, but it's about the same price as a regular health club. It has an indoor track, indoor pool, and all the usual health club stuff.

I'm not walking alone at night! Too many weirdo's and too easy to get run over on the narrow streets in my neighborhood. No sidewalks. emoticon

When it is this cold - nothing! I was going to sign up today again at the UREC so I could walk in the evenings after work, but it will probably be closed for the next two days! Great start to my new fitness regimen - iced in!!! Guess I'll explore some of the Spark videos in between movies and chapters! Brrrr.... emoticon

I know... My favorite form of exercise is a 3 mile walk around the neighborhood. This weather is making it hard to get moving. I just want to stay curled up in bed with a good book. What do you do to get moving?

I've learned that I can go to Google and choose "Videos" and type in Just Dance. lol I get the dances from the Just Dance 1-4 series including "Gangnam Style". I'm NOT good at it but I have a blast. This is a form of exercise that I am enjoying and I get my heart rate over 130, which is a lot for me! Finally, something where the time flies and I can't wait to have a chance to do it again. Normally, I get physically tired long before I'm ready to stop. I'm sure I will get better with time and be able to go longer. emoticon

I finally tried body pump at the gym and it wasn't too bad. I'll def do it again when I can work my schedule around it.

Tennis Anyone? Hi I'm new to SP, and live in the Baton Rouge area. The only exercise I really LOVE is playing tennis. No I'm not that great at it, but I call it Cardio Tennis. Just rallying rather then score keeping. Really gets the heart rate up! So if anyone is interested in playing tennis to lose weight let me know, I usually go to the BREC tennis courts off Highland Rd. Good luck to us all :-)

It's been a long time since the team was really active. I miss it and many of the people!
